亚博正规买球采用百度引擎1(Baidu 7)Universal’s new high-octane thrill-ride Nobody brings together some of the most formidable names working in action cinema today: John Wick writer Derek Kolstad, Hardcore Henry director Ilya Naishuller, Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch (who is a producer), and, of course… Bob Odenkirk!? That casting is kinda the punchline of this movie about a seemingly regular Joe named Hutch Mansell, a suburban family man suffering from some serious middle-age malaise, whose former life as a take-no-prisoners badass is re-awakened after a home invasion. In this exclusive and extended sit down, Odenkirk – up till now best known as a deft comedian and for his work in Breaking Bad and prequel series Better Call Saul – reveals how his own personal experience with home invasions inspired the idea for the film and the character of Hutch. Plus, the actor goes deep on the movie’s demanding action sequences, including an absolutely brutal encounter on a bus, and channeling the rage of a man whose safety, and that of his family, has been violated.Nobody is in theaters March 26, 2021. Netflix s Ozark, created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams and showrun by Chris Mundy, follows the downward spiral of a seemingly innocent Chicago accountant, Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman). When his secret money-laundering deal with a Mexican cartel goes south, he decides to move his family to central Missouri to protect himself and the lives of his wife, Wendy (Laura Linney), and kids Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) and Jonah (Skylar Gaertner).Over the course of the show s first two seasons, Marty s various criminal dealings resulted in overly bloody consequences; in fact, the amount of bone-chilling violence featured here, along with the strong performances delivered from each member of the cast, resulted in a bleak, yet action-packed series that surpassed genre expectations. It s no surprise that, upon its initial premiere, Ozark drew heavy comparisons to AMC s Breaking Bad. Each shows a family unit on the verge of collapse as its patriarch — whether it s Bryan Cranston s Walter White or Bateman s Marty Byrde — dabbles, to varying degrees, in the criminal underworld. Add in a cartel menace, snooping law enforcement entities, and the inevitable collateral damage each family faces, it s easy to see the similarities here. But as the story evolved in its second season, Ozark completely broke free from the Breaking Bad mold, as the Byrdes became complicit in Marty s crimes. His deal-with-the-devil became the family business, causing the overall brokenness of their fragile union to grow exponentially.(Photo by Guy D'Alema/Netflix)In the wake of Wendy s infidelity and the constant tension of who may be trying to kill them next, Marty tapped his significant other for help in a move to find solidarity and support. But things have a habit of not going his way, and as Wendy s taste for breaking the law grew, Marty was faced with one more challenge for him to deal with, or try to avoid at all costs in his crime boss–in–training wife.Season 1 didn t exactly dazzle critics, scoring a decent, but not stellar, 70% on the Tomatometer with 69 reviews. The second installment of the Netflix series performed a bit better and is now Certified Fresh at 76% on 45 reviews. Now, with new episodes dropping on Netflix, the question lingers: Is Ozark able to breathe new life into this bleak family drama or is the jig finally up for this bloody money-laundering tale? Here s what critics have to say about season 3 of Ozark.Marty and Wendy s Marital (and Criminal) Conflict Carries the Season(Photo by Steve Deitl/Netflix)Though the Byrde’s situation remains tenuous in some ways, they’re in a better position than ever before in others, the problem being that Marty and Wendy simply don’t see eye to eye on what’s best for their business and their family. As such, the series opens the door for the long-building conflict between the couple to finally come to a head. And the results are some of the best and most tense episodes of the series to date. — Kevin Yeoman, ScreenRantWendy seems hellbent on roaming the same criminal grounds Marty is now too afraid to retread while avoiding (or repeating) his mistakes. She wants to expand the family business. She wants to increase their profile, despite its obvious fallbacks (like attracting the FBI). And when her husband refuses to continue laundering money for the cartel and their other interests, Wendy picks up the pace of her campaign against him. — Andrew Husband, Den Of GeekEvil Laura Linney Is the Best Laura LinneyWendy in particular realizes her penchant for illicit and illegal activities this season, taking the lead of operations against Marty’s wishes, allowing Laura Linney countless moments to dominant a scene, proving exactly why she deserved her Emmy win. — Katie Awad, HypableIn some ways, this run of episodes is all about Wendy, whose new, flinty resolve scared her husband at the end of season two—and who is now putting that mettle to the ultimate stress test. The results are fascinatingly shaded; Wendy realizes she’s in perilously deep, while also digging in further. She’s horrified by the erosion of her ethics, while quietly thrilled by what’s possible once those bonds have been shaken off. This is the most that Linney has been allowed to tear into her character, and it’s thrilling to watch. — Richard Lawson, Vanity FairRuth Langmore Is the Unexpected Heart of the ShowJulia Garner, who won a supporting actress Emmy last year, is the saving grace of this season as Marty’s right hand and most senior employee, Ruth Langmore. Through brashness and bravery, her loyalty to Marty affords her increasing responsibility. Soon she’s running the casino and closer to the apex of danger. Through the loss of her father, uncles and cousins, we get to see Ruth’s vulnerable side. She softens in the face of a potential love interest, and toward Marty, who fills a fatherly void. It’s predictable character arc yet it doesn’t disappoint because it’s the season’s most finely drawn development. — Rachna Raj Kaur, Now TorontoFresh off her Emmy win for Best Supporting Actress last year, Garner remains a standout in this series. Ruth’s foul-mouthed spitfire attitude is still an absolute delight, but Garner continues to flesh out this character with complexity and a moving vulnerability that makes her one of the most interesting characters on the show. — Adam Chitwood, ColliderAfter a fine first season and a so-so second, this show is full of fresh energy. The best character is the casino manager (Emmy-winning Julia Garner), a spitfire you’ll want to meet. — Tim Appelo, AARPSeason 3 Is an Improvement, but Ozark Isn t Taking Any Narrative Chances(Photo by Steve Dietl/Netflix) Ozark lacks that brilliance that only few achieve, but it continues to do more with each season, and always manages to solve with efficiency all the mishaps in which it puts its characters. — Mikel Zorrilla, EspinofEven with a lot of the right pieces in place, “Ozark” remains short-sighted in how it manufactures drama, relying far too often on quick positional pivots and bad decisions to generate immediate conflict, rather than building long-term arcs with more satisfying payoffs. — Ben Travers, IndieWireOzark season 3 premieres on Friday, March 27 on Netflix.

You know what s cool? A billion dollars. And in this town, it s true. A movie making that minimum seven figures isn t cool, it s a box office bomb. But 10 figures? Now we re talking. Cracking a billion dollars globally requires a mighty recipe of the hottest stars, the shiniest filmmaking technology, and an engaging plot with twists and turns that never becomes super-duper complicated. And, of course, you ll need an audience willing to turn out in droves the world over, from America to Lebanon to Zambia. Now we ve compiled all of the movies that have achieved just that and ranked them by Tomatometer. It s a compelling window into our era of blockbusters and inflation. The Transformers and Pirates of the Caribbean series each have multiple entries, in the years before the franchises were run into the ground. Alice in Wonderland showed the way for Disney and these newfangled live-action remakes. The last Lord of the Rings was rewarded by fans with the highest gross of the trilogy, goodwill that transferred into The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and then evaporated after that. The presence of the Jurassic and Star Wars movies, along with Skyfall, shows you can still wring plenty of money out of long-in-the-tooth franchise. Then there s the superheroes. The Dark Knight movies officially ushered in the era of big business for those who take their comic-book moviemaking seriously. Marvel took a lighter step, focusing on interconnected stories that create serious FOMO for those who skip the multiplex line, in movies like Avengers, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther. And now as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker forces itself into the mix, we re ranking every movie that reached billion by Tomatometer ! And if you want to go more in-depth, check out our article on The 50 Highest-Grossing Movies Ever, which includes some of those lesser specimens that couldn t quite break a billion.

ot with very little. The Wrap s Carlos Aguilar said: “The 2D animated rendering of the master filmmaker is more graphic interpretation than faithful portrait, perfect to cruise between reality and the anxiety-fueled nightmares that besiege his sleep.”The Wolf House (2018) 96%Country: Chile(Photo by Kimstim Films)An eerie stop-motion animation that will chill you to your bones, La Casa Lobo is not for the faint of heart. It tells the story of Maria, a woman who escapes a secretive German colony as she takes refuge in a house in southern Chile. Directors Jaoquín Cociña and Cristóbal León shot the film over five years, using 12 different locations in the process, including Casa Maauad in Mexico City, the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago, Chile, and Upstream Gallery in Amsterdam, Netherlands. All that globe-trotting seems to have paid off in terrifying dividends: Critics agree it’s a viewing experience like no other. La Casa Lobo is an instant folk-horror classic, a terrifying fairy tale bound to stick with you long after the credits roll. Olimpia (2018) Country: MexicoIn 1968, a coalition of students from across México came together to push for social and political change. This protest, known as the Mexican Movement of 1968 (Movimiento Estudiantil), provides the backdrop for Olimpia. The film follows three students at the Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) as the school is seized by the military following massive student-led unrest. It s been hailed by critics for showing a new perspective on the events, drawing comparisons to 1968 s El Grito, the long-banned documentary that captured the protests as they unfolded. The outcome resulted in several high-profile massacres with a lasting impact on the country (as seen in Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, set between 1970 and 1971), and Olimpia effectively re-creates the events which ignited the movement. The rotoscope effect adds a layer of reality to the proceedings, while simultaneously giving it an uncanny valley feel that amps up the tension. An important film about an important moment of time, Olimpia is a good starting place for anyone looking to learn more about the Movimiento Estudiantil. Coco (2017) 97%Country: USA(Photo by Pixar / courtesy Everett Collection)A celebration of music and country, Coco is widely known in the U.S. as an English-language film, but the Spanish-language version of the film is one of the few dubs that is widely beloved (next to the epic Spanish language dub of The Lion King, of course). Coco was the first film released by the studio to feature an exclusively Latinx cast, and cast members including Gael García Bernal, Alfonso Arua, Sofía Espinosa, Luis Valdez, and Carla Medina were able to reprise their roles for the dub. Doubly helpful was everyone doing their own singing. The radio version of main heartbreaker “Remember Me” was sung by Mexicana folk singer Natalia Lafourcade and US pop star Miguel, both of whom were already up to the task of singing en Español. Because the story already takes place in México and deals with culturally specific beliefs and celebrations, there’s little about the movie’s content that reads as phony, helping it become the highest-grossing original animated film in México. That, and releasing it just in time for Día de los Muertos. Whatever language you watch it in, Coco is a celebration of Mexican life, culture, and music that’s perfect for viewers of all ages. Birdboy: The Forgotten Children (2015) 94%Country: SpainBased on co-director Alberto Vázquez’ graphic novel, Birdboy takes place on an island devastated by a massive factory explosion that has left half its land toxic, the water fishless, and our hero Birdboy possessed by a demon. After spending years isolated from the rest of society, Birdboy’s life is forever changed when Dinki, a young mouse from an abusive home, finds him on her journey to freedom. Their attempts to escape the island are undermined by a ruthless police force determined to find and capture Birdboy dead or alive. You know, just your basic coming-of-age story that tackles ecological disaster, drug abuse, and the dangers of religious extremism. The 2016 Best Animated Feature winner at the Goya Awards (and a Rotten Tomatoes off-the-radar staff pick), Birdboy was hailed by critics as an oddball triumph, heavily praised for its striking animation at once whimsical and terrifying and ability to find hope inside its dark world. If the themes didn’t make it obvious, Birdboy is definitely not for younger viewers (though anyone old enough to Tweet is likely already familiar with the abject terror of living in a world on fire and may find it, sadly, #relatablecontent). Those equipped to wade into this dreary world may find themselves leaving with a little more hope than they ever could have imagined.Virus tropical (2017) 78%Country: Colombia(Photo by Interior13 Cine)Virus Tropical is a black-and-white piece of animated perfection based on Colombian-Ecuadorian cartoonist Power Paola’s graphic memoirs of the same name. Paola, the youngest of three siblings and by far the strangest, can’t seem to figure out how to fit in a society that demands compliance. It’s an exploration of identity, a coming-of-age story rich with self discovery. The film’s animation is reminiscent of Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis, sketchy in the best sense and full of imaginative imagery born of Paola’s particular worldview. It’s a joyous, melancholy ode to growing up and learning how to be yourself against all odds. Underdogs (2013) 67%Country: Argentina(Photo by TWC / courtesy Everett Collection)Football (or, as Ted Lasso would call it, soccer) fans will find much to like in Metegol, a charming 3D animated feature known in the U.S. as Underdogs. The film follows Amadeo and his beloved foosball table, whose figurines have suddenly come to life. Together, they must defeat an evil bully who is determined to destroy them. Though director Juan José Campanella is better known for his live-action filmography, which includes The Secret in Their Eyes and several episodes of AMC’s outstanding Halt and Catch Fire, he works well in the animated space. The camera work is fluid, and though it has some of the shortcomings of lower-budgeted CGI, it’s never distracting to the story. It’s geared toward younger audiences, but it moves quickly enough, and once the jokes start rolling even viewers may find themselves chuckling along.Wrinkles (2014) 93%Country: Spain(Photo by GKids / courtesy Everett Collection)Most animated features feel like they re geared towards young people, and it’s even rarer to find animated films that take on the complexities of aging. Writer Paco Roca’s Arrugas (adapted from his comic book of the same name) explores the lives of elderly people living in a retirement home. As newly admitted Emilio becomes acquainted with his new surroundings via his charming roommate Miguel (who may or may not be a bit of a kleptomaniac), it dawns on Emilio that he is not simply here because he is old; he has early onset Alzhemiers. The recipient of the 2014 Goya Award for Best Animated Feature, Arrugas doesn’t sugarcoat much, which can make it a bit difficult to watch. But with a charming cast of characters, warm humor, and endless insight, it s a bittersweet meditation on life and love. Unfortunately the original version of the film isn’t currently streaming in the U.S., but if you’re curious you may be able to find the English dub, which features Martin Sheen and George Coe in the lead roles. Anina (2013) Country: Uruguay/Colombia(Photo by 3GTG )Anina, adapted from a novel by Sergio López Suárez, tells the story of young Anina Yatay Salas, the girl with the triple palindrome name (thanks, dad). After a fateful sandwich-related mishap, Anina and her arch nemesis, Yisel, receive a punishment so strange it nearly breaks Anina’s wild spirit. It was submitted as Uruguay s entry for Best Foreign Language film for the 86th Academy Awards, and though it wasn’t nominated, remains a lovely feat of 2D animation from director Alfredo Soderguit. Chico & Rita (2010) 87%Country: Spain/UK(Photo by GKIDS)Chico Rita has more than enough music and energy to keep you dancing long into the night. It tells the tale of the titular Cuban musicians whose passion for their craft is matched only by their love and adoration for one another. Winner of the Goya Award for Best Animated Film, Chico Rita’s unique animation style flows as freely as the jazz music at its center. Each frame seems to dance to the beat, the camera pushing and pulling as fluidly as it would in any live-action film. It s truly a wonder to watch unfold, which is probably why in addition to being the first Spanish language title ever to receive a nomination for Best Animated Feature at the 84th Academy Awards Chico Rita is currently Certified Fresh. Una carta épica de amor a Cuba y su música, Chico Rita is one for the ages. Fat, Bald, Short Man (2011) Country: ColombiaWe all get a little insecure sometimes. In Carlos Osuna’s Gordo, calvo, y bajito, Antonio Farfan firmly believes all the misfortunes of his life can be traced back to three things: He is fat, he is bald, and he is short. When a fatter, shorter, balder man arrives at his office, Antonio must face the facts: Maybe the problem isn’t his looks after all. Maybe it s him. It’s a moving film, with  simple rotoscoped animation capturing Antonio’s mental gymnastics as he attempts to unlearn everything he knows about himself and become the person he was always meant to be. Nocturna (2007) Country: Spain/France(Photo by GKIDS)When the stars start disappearing, orphan Tim must find a way to save them, lest he and all of Nocturna be forever stuck in the dark. Nocturna’s animation is gorgeous, a spiraling dreamland that recalls the beauty of Van Gogh’s Starry Night, but with computer-generated graphics. Though the story is aimed squarely at young viewers, this timeless tale of courage in the face of adversity and finding light in the dark will resonate with audiences of all ages. A visual feast filled with fantastic characters and brought to life by an impressive voice cast, including Imanol Arias, Nocturna is well worth a watch. () Country: ArgentinaDirector s Liliana Romero and Norman Ruiz’ Fierro is an animated adaptation of José Hernández’ epic poem, Martín Fierro, an important cultural touchstone figure for Argentina. It begins with young Fierro living with his family on their ranch, whose existence is upended when he is drafted to protect the Argentine border from Indigenous hostiles. When Fierro becomes disillusioned with his position, he defects and joins the Indigenous cause in a story of corruption, freedom, and justice. The characters in the film were all designed by Roberto Fontanarrosa, an Argentinian cartoonist and writer who sadly died before the film’s release. The film’s 2D animation is Newgrounds-esque, which works well for Fontanarrosa’s characters. The static backgrounds (often simply of expansive sky) add a sense of space and place to the provincial setting, and a surreal quality to Fierro’s moments of introspection. It’s a fitting adaptation that lives up to both its source material and the late cartoonist who helped create it. () Country: MexicoYou have to crack a few eggs to make an omelette, but what if the egg had a say in becoming breakfast? That’s the dilemma for Toto, a talking egg who is snatched from his hen-mother just moments after being laid to be processed as food. After being sold to a household with a very egg-hungry cat, Toto is determined to get back to his mother with the help of some friends, and become the rooster he was meant to be. Una pelicula de huevos was the first feature from Mexican animation studio Huevocartoon Producciones, and was so well received in Mexico it still holds its place as the 10th highest-grossing film produced in the country. Though it never received a theatrical release in the U.S., it hatched two sequels (including 2015 s Huevos: Little Rooster s Egg-cellent Adventure) and even spawned a video game. The animation is fairly simple (think WB Saturday morning Cartoons in their heyday not the most exciting, but it gets the job done), so the real draw is the humor. The film is an extension of shorts created by Rodolfo Riva Palacio and Gábriel Riva Palacio, who also helm the feature. Though the feature-length version’s humor is toned down for younger audiences, there are still traces of the short’s double entendres.

Ghcxuf American Horror Story has come a long way since its latex-bodysuit early days. Co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk established the genre anthology series with the 2011 FX premiere of Murder House, an edgy take on the classic haunted-house horror trope.Since then, the show has run the gamut from Nazis and aliens wreaking havoc in Asylum to the cultural chaos inspired by the 2016 presidential election in Cult. Through it all, Murphy and Falchuk have built a small-screen television universe, intricately connecting characters and narrative components from one season to the next.Every season has had its share of story twists, and a tradition eventually formed, with the sixth episode of each season containing a big reveal. Episode 6 of AHS: 1984 is also the 100th episode of the series and packs some extra weight behind its narrative punches. As we wait to see how AHS: 1984 plays out, let s take a look back at other seasons game-changing sixth episodes and see how episode 100 measures up.Murder House Season 1, Episode 6: "Piggy Piggy" 89%(Photo by FX)Halfway through the first season of American Horror Story it felt like Murphy and company were still finding their groove. That s not to say that Piggy, Piggy doesn t deliver the goods. On the contrary, there are a number of gut punches in the episode that help to add emotional clarity to the season s story. The most important component to this episode is the explanation behind Tate Langdon s (Evan Peters) death. Violet Harmon (Taissa Farmiga) may be in love with the ghost, but the reveal, which shows Langdon in skull-themed face paint and Columbine-inspired trench coat shooting up his high school, is one of those gut-punches we mentioned. It s the first time American Horror Story really goes there in tackling social commentary in its subject matter; in this case, shining a light on America s issue of gun violence and school shootings. And as difficult as it is to watch, the unflinching sequence adds an unexpected layer to Peters brooding blond teenager — and gives TV audiences a nudge into some uncomfortable, but necessary, talks about mental health.Asylum Season 2, Episode 6: "The Origins of Monstrosity" 91%(Photo by FX)There are two important components at play in AHS: Asylum’s sixth episode: Dr. Thredson s (Zachary Quinto) backstory, explaining how he became serial killer Bloody Face and the bombshell that Dr. Arden (James Cromwell) may very well be a WWII Nazi doctor — who s trying to create superhumans through creepy medical experiments — named Hans Gruper. That second plotline may sound a bit kooky, but it all goes with the territory as season 2 of AHS seemingly throws a whole array of genre tropes at the wall to see what sticks. The Thredson storyline is the strongest one in Origins of Monstrosity, as we not only dig into the doctor s past, but his present situation plays out in a cringe-filled scenario that finds Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson) held captive by the madman. Through her will to survive, and his need for connection, the two form an odd bond as Lana offers to be Oliver s new mother figure. They consummate this new relationship, which ultimately sets things up for Lana s escape — including her murder of Bloody Face — putting her in the position to rise as an investigative journalist, only to confront her psychotic child, the result of her union with Oliver, years later, on live TV.Coven Season 3, Episode 6: "The Axeman Cometh" 87%(Photo by Michele K. Short/©FX Networks/courtesy Everett Collection)The thing you should know about the sixth episode of Coven is that, as much as The Axeman Cometh is a cool entry in the season, it s kind of unnecessary. That s not to say that the episode isn t at all entertaining or worthwhile. The contrary can be said. Danny Huston makes his debut as the aforementioned Axeman — a character inspired by a real-life serial killer who stalked the streets of New Orleans in 1919.Here, he s got the creepy suaveness we ve come to expect from Murphy s psychopaths. And his attraction to Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange) comes with a hidden disdain the killer has for witches — we get a glimpse into his backstory, which totally includes his death by stabbing inside Miss Robichaux s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies, the modern day location of Fiona s coven. So yes, he has a chip on his shoulder. And once he s unleashed back into the world of the living, that rage turns into violent action. The Axeman Cometh is the first half of a two-part story that bridges the gap between the front and back halves of the season. And while the episode mostly acts as a set-up for the Axeman s storyline to play out, ultimately leaving some story threads dangling, his introduction was a nice palate cleanser to the season and gave Jessica Lange a dastardly romantic interest to play against.Freak Show Season 4, Episode 6: "Bullseye" 54%(Photo by FX)Let s cut to the chase: Bullseye is the worst sixth episode of any American Horror Story season. Which isn t saying much, since Freak Show, overall, was a subpar installment of the anthology series. That s not to say that Murphy and company didn t accomplish anything here. Casting relative unknowns, a bunch of talented actors with an array of physical abnormalities, helped position Murphy as a champion for on-screen diversity.Adding a musical carnival vibe to the mix — Jessica Lange and others performing modern-day pop songs under a 1950s circus tent was definitely a choice — helped separate this go-round from every other installment to the series. But the storylines explored here, in one of the country s last-remaining traveling circus shows, feel under-developed.This comes through with Stanley s (Denis O Hare) continued attempt at procuring Elsa s (Lange) attractions (while promising her Hollywood fame) and Dandy s (Finn Wittrock) murderous serial killer graduation to becoming the Bringer of Death, thanks to some gruesome inspiration from Twisty the Clown (John Carroll Lynch). On paper, both ideas sound compelling, but it all played out as if each plotline was buckling under the weight of heavy expectations and thinly thought-out ideas.Hotel Season 5, Episode 6: "Room 33" 67%(Photo by Ray Mickshaw/©FX/courtesy Everett Collection)Midway through its fifth season, American Horror Story gave its audience a backstory for Lady Gaga s Countess. But, as cool as it is to get this type of insight into a powerful vampire and to understand why she collects children and blindly murders innocent people, Room 33 was mostly just dull. The saving grace through it all was the introduction of the killer baby that the Countess keeps hidden in the Hotel Cortez. In a flashback to 1926, Mrs. Johnson — a.k.a. a pre-vampire Countess — heads to the Murder House to get Charles Montgomery (Matt Ross) to perform a basement abortion. Of course, it doesn t work. And throughout the episode, we re reminded of that as Bartholemew, the murder baby, is randomly shown, here and there, running around the room like an infant maniac.Roanoke Season 6, Episode 6: "Chapter 6" 93%The big reveal in American Horror Story: Roanoke is a twist within a twist within a twist. What started as a familiar-feeling haunted house horror story following Shelby and Matt Miller (Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding Jr.), a married couple who moved into a troubled house in Roanoke, Virginia, made a 180-degree turn in its sixth episode. Up until that point, we watched them recall their battle against ghosts, a murderer wearing a pig s head, and community of crazed cultists — led by their ax-wielding leader Agnes Mary Winstead (Kathy Bates) — in the docu-series, My Roanoke Nightmare. And then, in Chapter 6, the script was flipped as the camera perspective changed, revealing the cast and crew behind the show s production. Suddenly, the audience was introduced to the actors playing the characters in the series, giving the AHS cast a whole cavalcade of details to work with as they cycled from their on-screen actor personas to the characters their on-screen actor personas were playing. That isn t the end of it, either. Producer Sidney (Cheyenne Jackson) decides to make Return to Roanoke: Three Days in Hell — a reality show-style sequel to the highly successful docu-series — leading AHS: Roanoke to pivot into found-footage territory. The actors, not the characters, return to the real Roanoke house — which gets rigged with a bunch of hidden cameras — only to be traumatized during a three-day period called the Blood Moon, where the veil between the living and the dead disappears, allowing one grisly murder after another to take place. While the episode continually changed perspective and narrative styles, this overall reveal ended up feeling a bit gimmicky. Still, Chapter 6 succeeded at disrupting expectations and paved the way for some of the grittiest and goriest episodes of the series.Cult Season 7, Episode 6: "Mid-Western Assassin" 82%Another American Horror Story episode, another depiction of a gun-wielding mass-shooter. Six seasons after the school massacre scene in AHS: Murder House, the sequence that transpires in Mid-Western Assassin is the one that got the most attention after the episode aired. It was unfortunate timing, given the shooting that transpired in Las Vegas, Nevada, in October 2017. And while edits were made to the episode, FX didn t delay its airing.AHS: Cult explores the rise of a manic, threatening leader amid a fractured cultural landscape. The season s narrative was inspired by the 2016 presidential election. But while there were a few references to Donald Trump s win — which may have been a bit too soon to process for many — the overall focus here was on humanity s need for connection and the ramifications that can be born out of isolation and pain, leading to the rise of people like Charles Manson or David Koresh (both played by Evan Peters in the season). In the episode, Meadow (Leslie Grossman), one of Kai s (Peters) followers, attempts to murder him during a political rally — per the cult leader s request, we find out later — as his public persona continues to get national attention. The massacre bookends the episode, showing two different perspectives of the action, giving the audience both the actual truth of what went down, and the spun lies which bolster the rising political star s celebrity.Apocalypse  Season 8, Episode 6: "Return to Murder House" 100%Murphy knows how to deliver fan service and his talent for doing so is on full display in the sixth episode of American Horror Story: Apocalypse. The fate of the world and all of humanity lay with some heroic witches, setting up Return to Murder House to deliver answers to lingering questions, taking viewers back to the season that started it all.As Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) grew into his antichrist powers, straddling the moral line between good and evil, good witch duo Chablis (Billy Porter) and Coven s Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) purchase Murder House to investigate Langdon s past. Yes, the boy grew up within these walls and was raised by Constance Langdon — prompting Jessica Lange s glorious, albeit brief, return to the series.Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott reprise their roles as Vivien and Ben Harmon. While they re definitely ghosts here, we get flashbacks showing Ben giving Langdon therapy, trying to guide him down the right path. Evan Peters brings back brooding teen mass murderer, Tate Langdon, adding even more nostalgia to the mix. And with Sarah Paulson directing the episode, and returning as psychic Billie Dean Howard, the American Horror Story universe expanded in a truly satisfying way.1984  Season 9, Episode 6: "Episode 100" 93% AHS: 1984, the series ninth installment, takes viewers back to the 80s with a retro horror tale that hits all the gory notes one would expect. The season takes a literal stab at the Friday the 13ths and Sleepaway Camps of the decade, giving a nod to the slasher icons of the genre. When a group of young people gets trapped at Camp Redwood — a camping retreat stained by the monstrous legend of a serial killer named Mr. Jingles (John Carroll Lynch) — they re killed-off one-by-one, revealing sinister secrets, ulterior motives, and a few evil twists along the way. Episode 100 took viewers outside of Camp Redwood and jumped forward in time, showing just how much can change for our core group in five years. In 1989, Camp Counselor Margaret Booth (Leslie Grossman) has gotten away with the murders she committed at the camp. (Spoiler: she s the real monster, not Mr. Jingles.) In turn, the woman is now a wealthy real estate mogul who buys up properties connected to some of America s most notorious killers — John Wayne Gacy s house, Charles Manson s Spahn Ranch, and even Asylum’s Briarcliff Manor are some of the examples given.Meanwhile, we see Benjamin Richter living a relatively normal life in Alaska with a wife and newborn child, attempting to put his Mr. Jingles life behind him; Brooke (Emma Roberts) is on death row, framed for Margaret s crimes; Richard Ramirez (Zach Villa) is incarcerated and literally has the powers of Satan on his side; and the ghosts of Montana (Billie Lourd), Xavier (Cody Fern), and Ray (DeRon Horton) are tethered to Camp Redwood — the same way the spirits were stuck in Murder House and Hotel — where passers-by keep getting killed. There s a double-sided message in Episode 100 as it seems that Murphy and Falchuk — who co-wrote the episode — are exploiting America s fascination with true crime, while turning that focus on themselves as well. On one hand, you have Margaret profiting off a collection of serial killers legacies only to add to her riches. On the other, there s Murphy acknowledging his habit of paying a glamorized tribute to real-life murderers like Gacy (Carroll Lynch), Aileen Wuornos (Lily Rabe), and Ramirez (previously played by Anthony Ruivivar). At what point does pop culture attention directed at these criminals’ bloody misdeeds become glorification? It s an interesting moral quandary that resonates throughout society today. With just three episodes to go this season, the bloody events of Episode 100 will hopefully set up the final set of dominoes to fall, to push things right along to a satisfying climax.American Horror Story: 1984 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX. 😈😈

Jacqueline Coley for Rotten Tomatoes: You have been quietly doing some amazing work recently. We loved Mudbound, and then there was First Man. But the one we loved that not as many people saw was Chappaquiddick. It was incredible and quite a transformation for you. Jason Clarke: Oh yeah, Chappaquiddick. Thank you. It got a bit lost, but at the same point, it made million in the U.S. It was one of the highest grossing independent films of that year. People saw it. People didn t talk about it, because it s pretty difficult to talk about for a lot of the media in the current environment. It will stand the test of time.RT: Moving to Pet Sematary  are you a scary movie person? A horror person?Clarke: To be honest, not hugely so, although some of my favorite movies are. You know, I wouldn t term them as horror, like The Hunt. That film terrorized me. It s very creepy watching. It s extraordinary but not horror. RT: We just had the premiere here at SXSW. What was it like, seeing it last night? Because the audiences here are legendary for their reactions.Clarke: It was insane. Really. It struck me as how rarely I go to a cinema now and watch a movie with a group of people. I m always watching them by myself, with my wife, maybe with a couple of people, or with my child. To watch something with a thousand people was wonderful. You remember that s what cinema is about. For an actor, it s almost like the theater. You re sitting in the same air. I was able to see people s reactions. I could feel the love and enjoyment. I couldn t help but think, I need more of this. Like, my God, I might need to do a play again. It s the connection to the people, because acting [on film sets], you lose that.RT: Do you think that is particularly because horror is such a reactive genre?Clarke: You know, it s cinema, it s a director s medium, and whatever anyone says, you know it s their vision, particularly with horror. The audience watches it to feel it. And last night, I felt it, you know, but that s not in every horror flick. I think horror s not enough for this film. It s not enough to say when it s Stephen King.Pet Sematary opens on April 5.

亚博正规买球 Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018) 53% In 2016, Disney released a live action/CGI hybrid remake of The Jungle Book, a musical adventure based on the Rudyard Kipling book of the same name, and it was a runaway success. Even before that film went into production, however, Warner Bros. had already begun development on their own adaptation of Kipling s book, with Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Naomie Harris lending their voices to the animal characters and Andy Serkis, who voices Mowgli s bear friend Baloo, at the helm as director. The end result is Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, a decidedly darker take on the source material that follows a young boy raised by wolves who must decide whether to remain in the jungle or return to civilization. The film opens in a handful of theaters this week, with an eventual release on Netflix next Friday, and according to critics, its move to the streaming platform may have been a strategic one by Warner Bros. While Serkis passion for the project is clear and the A-list cast is reliably effective, critics say Mowgli suffers from comparisons to the Disney film, both in the quality of its special effects and in the consistency of its tone, and the final product is a messy if ambitious misfire.
