沙巴体育365网址采用百度引擎7(Baidu 5)All good things must come to an end, and with the season 6B premiere of Vikings hitting our television screens on December 30, the end of History’s beloved series is near.The first 10 episodes of the season served as the perfect setup to its final, killing off a few major characters — we still haven’t quite recovered from Lagertha’s (Katheryn Winnick) unceremonious stabbing — and setting in motion an epic conclusion for Ragnar’s sons, now seven years in the making.But before Vikings sets sail to Valhalla for good, we’ve got several lingering questions we’d like to see answered, especially considering the midseason finale that left our central hero’s fate in the balance.Is Bjorn Dead or Alive After Getting Stabbed by Ivar?(Photo by Jonathan Hession/History)No surprise here: The biggest burning question going into this final stretch of episodes is whether or not Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) actually died by Ivar’s sword, as shown in a surreal and disorienting battle at the tail end of 6A. Is he gravely wounded? Was it all a dream? Or is this actually the last that we’ll see of Ludwig’s formidable warrior?Speaking with Rotten Tomatoes, creator Michael Hirst remained characteristically tight-lipped about what’s to come, but he did tease that dead or alive, Bjorn will continue to be a presence this season. Just as Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) continues to be a name on everyone’s lips, his first son also casts a long shadow in life and in death.“These are presences in the show right to the end, powerful presences, part of the pantheon and sort of mythic figures in the Vikings world,” Hirst said. “So they’re still alive in many different ways.”And for what it’s worth, Ludwig, without giving away his character’s fate, told us that there’s no other way he’d rather the show end  — what Hirst has crafted is exactly what it should be.“I’m really objective, and I hate watching myself because I’m always really hard on myself, but I will say that I do love this show as a fan, I really do, and as somebody who’s incredibly critical of everything I do, I believe that this show is ending exactly how it should,” Ludwig said. “The fans are going to be really happy with the ending.”Scanning the latest trailers for the final season, Ludwig’s Bjorn is shown to be bedridden and surrounded by loved ones and viking leaders, which likely dispels any online theories that the battle sequence that ended in Ivar stabbing his brother was all a surreal dream. So perhaps he’s wounded and will live to fight another day? There are also glimpses of Bjorn riding horseback, and the season’s promotional poster itself features a grizzled, sword-wielding Bjorn, all indicating that we haven’t seen the last of him in battle yet. (Thank the gods!) Anything less would leave us feeling a bit cheated, considering the pedigree of loss and hardship Bjorn has weathered along the way, most recently the death of Lagertha, his unborn child, and Hali, his son by Torvi, and the loss of the elected crown.What Is Ivar’s Endgame With Oleg, Igor, and Hvitserk?(Photo by Bernard Walsh/History)We all know at this point just how masterful a strategist Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) truly is. And now that it appears the Rus army wrapped season 6A with a clear upper hand over Bjorn and King Harald (Peter Franzén), one must wonder what will come of his alliance with the young King Igor (Oran Glynn O Donovan), the rightful heir to Kievian Rus, and his manipulative, calculating uncle, Prince Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky). Of course, Ivar has had his eyes on the throne for years and is currently promised to inherit the crown as Norway’s King. But what if Oleg betrays that promise? Audiences have been privy to the mounting gameplay Ivar’s been aligning against Oleg should a coup be deemed necessary, so we’re eager to see how their relationship develops in these last 10 episodes. Where Oleg’s wife, Katia (Alicia Agneson) — whom Ivar believes is his dead wife resurrected — fits into that scheme also remains to be seen. But for now, as indicated in the finale earlier this year, the mood is joyous, celebratory, and drunk.As for Hvitserk (Marco Ilsø), he and Ivar have always had a, let’s say, contentious relationship. The fact that they’re back in arms together after Hvitserk accidentally killed Lagertha, was spared execution, and under Bjorn’s orders was banished from Kattegat — and, let’s not forget, after Ivar killed Thora (Eve Connolly) at the end of season 5 — definitely reeks of trouble. Too much baggage, resentments, and habits of fratricide sit between them and a happy, brotherly ending. How it all plays out, though — will Hvitserk make good on his supposed fate to kill Ivar? — is at this point anyone’s guess.King Harald Is Assumed Dead on the Battlefield — What Will Become of Norway?(Photo by Jonathan Hession/History)If there was ever a moment to prove that he deserved to be crowned King of Norway, the battle with the Rus at the end of 6A was it. Unfortunately, King Harald wasn’t quite up to snuff. (Are we all that surprised?) When news arrives of the approaching Rus army, Harald is unable to bring Norway’s kingdoms together for battle and is ultimately left shorthanded and unprepared. Throw into the mix the fact that he raped Bjorn’s wife, Ingrid, before that battle, we can’t say we were all that sad to see him bleeding out on the field. But never speak too soon: We never got any confirmation that he died after Erik the Red (Eric Johnson) left him for such and took his crown, so his future on the series is still unclear. And speaking of Erik, we can’t help but wonder what he’s going to do with the crown, leaving Harald for dead and with the knowledge that Bjorn is gravely injured, it appears as if Norway may need to find a new head to rest its power upon.Will Torvi and Ubbe Finally Make it to the Golden Land?(Photo by Jonathan Hession/History)We also expect these final episodes to conclude the years-long setup of how the vikings will make their way from Iceland to the so-called Golden Land — widely anticipated to be North America. On that quest by way of Iceland is Torvi (Georgia Hirst) and Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith), and at the end of season 6A, they had invited the help of Othere (Ray Stevenson), a mysterious wanderer who’s claimed to have charted the western seas and in his travels came up this “golden land.” Soon after his appearance in Iceland, it’s learned that he is actually a converted Anglo-Saxon monk named Athelstan, and he is hoarding a violent past. After killing a viking and taking his name, he left the missionary life behind and is now infiltrating the voyage efforts of Torvi and Ubbe. As it stands, his intention is unclear, and given his history, we’re not immediately on board to trust him. But if he can lead our heroes to the Golden Land, then perhaps it’s worth it to keep him around. Plus, if anyone has the answers behind Floki’s true fate, it may well be Othere.Another note of interest: Let’s loop back to Erik the Red. In real-world vikings history, Leif Erikson was the first viking to set foot on North America and went on to settle Newfoundland. Erik the Red, as it so happens, is Leif Erikson’s father. So were Hirst to stick closely to the factual history of the matter (which, of course, is not always the case in Vikings), we may also see Erik somehow involving himself in the Iceland camp’s voyage west.What Characters From Vikings’ Past Will Return Before the Finale?(Photo by Jonathan Hession/History)Speaking of Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård), wouldn’t it be nice to get some definitive closure on our favorite ship builder before Vikings comes to an end? It also gets us thinking about who else may show up between now and the series finale. The first half of season 6 has largely zeroed in on Iceland, Scandinavia, and Rus; is a trip back to Wessex and our friend King Alfred (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) in store? Rollo (Clive Standen) is already known for making an unannounced grand return to the series; should we be holding our breath for him? And as Hirst says himself, these characters never really die. Could Ragnar and Lagertha appear in flashbacks or dreams? Is there room for a full-on cast reunion onscreen? We hope so!Whoever comes back for this last round of action, Ludwig assures us that it’s happening: “Some of the fan-favorites may or may not make a return, and I’m really, really looking forward to the response,” he said. “I don’t think there’s a better way that it could’ve ended.”And about that ending, Hirst said that we should prepare to say goodbye to more major players than just Lagertha: “I had to kill off some of the characters I’ve loved the most, and that was never easy,” he said.But he promises that every shocking twist in the remainder of this journey is worth it and all feed the larger story he’s long had in the pipeline.“What I can say is that these episodes are literally full of surprises and unexpected visitations or appearances, and the thing to expect is the unexpected,” he said. “I’m not going to go into detail, but the show is rounded off in many respects, and I hope in a very satisfactory way. That was what I needed to do.”In the end, what if you’re not happy with the result? Well, Hirst rests easy with the knowledge that he is the only one to blame.“You know there are certain shows, and you probably could name them — very good shows that had very poor endings,” he teased. “And I suspect that that was because there were a number of people involved in the decision about how they should end and how they should be written, and people would disagree. But in this case, it was just me, and the only person I could argue with was myself. So I felt that if I was able to conclude these different storylines — there are three different storylines in these 10 episodes — if I could conclude them satisfactorily and with justice, then I was fairly sure that the audience would find the ending satisfying, too, because these are characters I love, these are characters I lived with for seven years. It’s .4 million start was the 9th best ever in December (it made another .7 million with Amazon previews last weekend) and yet was still the weakest opening in the DC Universe to date by some margin. That should be expected given the rejection of Justice League which introduced Jason Momoa’s superhero. That film opened to .4 million and finished with 9 million – itself the weakest gross of the Universe. Aquaman would really have to fail with audiences going forward not to reach that amount. The film’s support with critics dropped as the Tomatometer has fallen to 64% after some initial robust reviews from the junket crowd. Aquaman’s worldwide total has risen to over 2 million.Fresh Surprise: Bumblebee Shocks, But Not At Box Office(Photo by Paramount)There is only one number that earns Bumblebee its slot here and it s certainly not its opening weekend. Bumblebee s million start is less than half of what Transformers: The Last Knight opened to. No, the real impressive number is the Tomatometer score: 94%. The total score of the four Michael Bay Transformers sequels combined is just 88%. That’s four films. (The original received a 57%.) Whether or not Bumblebee can continue to draw family audiences in such a crowded season remains to be seen, but even catching The Last Knight’s 0 million means the 5 million production will be relying on its international draw to turn a profit. None of the live-action Transformers films have grossed less than 0 million worldwide.Rotten Returns: Welcome To Marwen! Hello? Seriously, You Can Come In.(Photo by Universal)In a sad turn of events Robert Zemeckis’ current box office status is looking a lot like the beginning of his career, marked by I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Used Cars, before Romancing the Stone and Back to the Future saved him. Countless masterpieces later, the director has fallen on hard times again in ticket sales. Sony opened The Walk wide a week after The Martian. It grossed .7 million and finished with just .1m. Allied was an million production that Brad Pitt did no press for as he was in the middle of his domestic issues with Angelina Jolie. It ended up making just million domestic.This weekend, Universal opened Welcome to Marwen and it, unfortunately, reached new lows for Zemeckis. The film opened in just 1,911 theaters but a ,234 per-theater-average is weak for any release. Critically it is the worst-reviewed film of his career by a margin; What Lies Beneath received a 46%. That is just the fifth rotten score ever for Zemeckis, but the opening was even worse than The Walk with just a .3 million tally.

When it comes to puzzling mysteries and existential questions about identity and consciousness, few shows do it as well as Westworld. In the span of two seasons, the show has expanded well beyond being just a remake of a 1973 movie directed by Jurassic Park author, Michael Crichton, to become a TV phenomenon that makes its audience question everything they’re seeing. Using its Wild West–themed amusement park setting to explore a mystery of robots that start to malfunction, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy also explore a variety of intriguing themes about the nature of will and consciousness, to the effect of technology and deteriorating privacy on society.After season 1 introduced its mystery and delivered one shocking twist after another, season 2 premiered all the way back in 2018 was even more puzzling, with more characters, more storylines and a new park. After the shocking season 2 finale, Westworld finally fulfilled its promise of having robots (well, hosts) out in the real world. With season 3 just around the corner, let’s take a look at everything we know about the upcoming season of Westworld.WHERE WE LEFT OFFSeason 2 of Westworld doubled down on the mystery and craziness of season 1, turning a show about robotic cowboys into a mashup of Person of Interest and Blade Runner, as timelines diverged before converging in the finale. For one, we found out that Delos (the company in charge of the park) had actually been stealing information on every guest who entered the park, scanning their brains with the cowboy hats in an effort to turn humans into hosts.Meanwhile, a whole lot of hosts died, including Akecheta (Zahn McClarnon), Maeve’s daughter (Jasmyn Rae), and poor Teddy (James Marsden), who crossed over into the “Valley Beyond.” Maeve (Thandie Newton) and Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) were killed, as was Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson), though the latter was rebuilt as a host inhabited by the consciousness of Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), who escaped from the park, rebuilt Bernard and wants to take over the world. Meanwhile, the Man in Black (Ed Harris) seemingly died, but a post-credits scene presented what seemed to be a host version of him in a distant future.WHERE WE’RE HEADEDSo far, we’ve seen four trailers for season 3, which don’t really tell us much in terms of plot, but give us some ideas as to what will happen, and most importantly, where it will happen. First off was a short teaser at the end of season 2 that introduced us to a new character (more on him later) and a wealth of new technology like self-driving motorcycles, robot construction workers, dresses that change color and reform at the wearer’s will, new and fancy cars without doors, a kind of very slim helicopter, and more.Then we got a full trailer at Comic-Con last year, where we were introduced to Dolores’ plan for the season – to expose the dark side of humanity and bring our civilization down, even if we outnumber the hosts. There’s a plot to destroy Dolores, led by Bernard, human animosity toward hosts, and hints of a lot more action than we had seen before. HBO announced the release date for season 3 with a teaser that filled fans in on some of the history of the show’s universe, outlining “divergences” that began with the impeachment of Donald Trump, and continued with future assassinations, civil wars, thermonuclear disasters, and the establishing of a “system” in 2039 that lasted until 2058 (presumably when Dolores emerged into the human world) with a voice over explaining that “we are in the middle of a war.” During the show s Comic-Con panel, Nolan talked about how determinism and algorithms play a big part in season 3, saying the show would explore “the Netflix effect, there is a giant algorithm in the sky that decides what you are going to watch.”

On the one hand, I m tempted to say originality and freshness, and yet there s some movies I like a lot, very good movies, that follow a ritual for a genre and wind up being really good.What is your preferred seat in a movie theater?Aisle seat, midway down the aisle.What is your favorite screening snack?Popcorn. No butter.When reviewing, do you go in cold?The only way I go. I actually studiously avoid reading or seeing anything about a movie. I don t even watch the trailers. The less I know about a movie going in, the better experience I have.Are you pro- or anti- note-taking?Neither. There are times when note-taking is crucial. I don t write lengthy reviews, so I find as long as I log-in either that night or the next morning when I get home, that does it for me.What is your personal record for most movies watched in a day?Seven. May I add with an asterisk: That was the day I discovered definitively that it s not the eyes that go first, it s the tush.What s your favorite film from your childhood?Oh gosh, so many. No one has ever asked me that.At age seven, my parents took me to see a film called The Golden Age of Comedy, which was a compilation of great moments from silent film comedies with Laurel and Hardy and Charlie Chaplin and others. I even remembered the theater where I saw it in Manhattan, and it literally changed my life.

He presented it to me right when we were wrapping up Breaking Bad and said would you like to do this, and then I read it and was just blown away by the story. We were on the hunt for our director, and it was set up a couple times, and then the floor just caved in on us. It s just hard to make a movie these days, especially an independent one. Then we finally got Chris Cantwell on board and hit the ground running. I think 10 days after he signed on he was in pre-production and we ran with it.You re someone who has gone back and forth between film and TV, which is a lot more common nowadays than 10 or 15 years ago.Oh, yeah, there was there was such a clear line between film actors and television actors. And, you know, both are great. We re lucky to get a job. But now you see Meryl Streep jumping on to a series and it s just, OK, times are changing for sure. Is that variety of TV projects on purpose? Are you someone who just likes to work, or do you love TV?I mean, are you kidding me? TV gave me a career. I don t necessarily think film is the better option. I think TV for me is where the interesting stories are being told. Film now is giant Marvel movies, giant Disney movies, big franchises, and all of the films that meet in the middle — between indies and giant blockbusters — all of those are kind of gone, and I think have just transitioned into really beautiful television series.What’s the Apple series about?The Apple series stars Octavia Spencer, who plays a fallen-from-grace New York Times reporter. She stretches the truth on a story and she ends up getting fired because of it and so she moves back to her hometown and decides to start doing a podcast about a story that she was involved with 20 years ago. She had a big hand in getting this young 16-year-old boy sentenced to life in prison for murdering his neighbor on Halloween night. This boy has always declared he was innocent, but she had a big hand in putting him behind bars. Twenty years later, the boy is still there. The boy is still saying he s innocent. But that story is now buried. He s forgotten about, but she digs it back up and unearths these old skeletons.Are you the boy?And I m the boy.What is it like to work on a show when you don t really know how it s going to be distributed?It s interesting to jump into business with literally the biggest business on the planet, and a trillion-dollar company, that you just have to trust. It s like the trust fall, and it s not even that. It s just like, yeah, Apple is going to do their own streaming service, how is it going to be received? Or, How are we going to watch it? I don t know. But they come up with really interesting ideas, and you just have to believe in them. When I read this, I actually read the first two scripts when the offer came in and I was so floored and really sort of flattered that they would come to me with this type of type of guy and this just beautiful story. Following through on good vibes from its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last weekend, Lorene Scafaria’s Hustlers exceeded even the loftiest expectations for its debut. The numbers may not have been enough to take the top spot from Pennywise, but the film’s opening is an important win for STX Films.Queen of the Crop: Hustlers Pulls In .2 Million(Photo by STX)STX’s previous best opening weekend was Bad Moms back in July 2016, with A Bad Moms Christmas taking the company’s second spot. This year’s surprise success, The Upside, which grossed over 8 million, was also a top grosser for STX. Hustlers’ .2 million start is higher than the total domestic grosses of the company’s other 2019 releases, The Best of Enemies, UglyDolls, and Poms, as well as 14 of its other 23 releases.The 13th-highest opening ever in September shows some real potential for Hustlers if word-of-mouth grows on the 87%-approved stripper crime drama. Six of the 11 films to open this month between million and million have gone on to reach the 0 million mark (though two of them were the kid-friendly Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs films). Jennifer Lopez has never appeared in a live-action film to reach that milestone. Her highest-grossing films to date have been Maid in Manhattan (.01 million) and Monster-in-Law (.9 million). Hustlers is poised to already beat her third-best grosser (Anaconda’s .8 million) and any way you slice it, the million production is likely to be STX’s biggest success ever after Bad Moms — and its second with Lopez after last December’s Second Act grossed more than million globally on just a million budget.Rotten Returns: The Goldfinch DisappointsAs prestige projects go, always beware the ones released in late August and early September. Case in point: Warner Bros.’ The Goldfinch. Technically in award season and even given a premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last week, John Crowley’s two-and-a-half-hour film has been poorly received by critics (24%) and now even moreso by audiences. A .64 million opening weekend is a disaster for the million production, though hardly the first for the studio this year. Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, and The Kitchen have all registered losses of more than million each, and now The Goldfinch looks to be joining them. By the end of its run it should be the lowest-grossing wide release Warner Bros. has released in September since 2005’s disaster A Sound of Thunder, which cost million and grossed just .9 million domestically and .6 million worldwide.The Top 10 and Beyond(Photo by Brooke Palmer/© 2019 WARNER BROS. It: Chapter Two, already well behind the pace of the first, dropped 55 percent to .7 million this weekend. That means it is starting to fall behind the pace of Doctor Strange, which made .9 million in its second weekend, but remains still ahead of Logan, which grossed .1 million in weekend two. Both of those films had 2.9 million after ten days while It: Chapter Two has 3.8 million. That puts its current final estimate between 6-232 million, potentially a full 0 million less than the first chapter. Its worldwide total stands at 3 million and is already well into profit.Running down some of the big winners in the top ten we find that The Lion King has passed .61 billion worldwide and Hobbs Shaw is over 0 million, still nearly a half-billion less than The Fate of the Furious. Universal also has a bonafide hit with Good Boys despite still hoping to cross the 0 million mark globally. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is in about the same boat as Good Boys, with million worldwide, and is a hit for Lionsgate. As is Angel Has Fallen, which hasn’t started its global run yet, but is at more than million domestic and even an average total overseas will put it into the black.Roadside’s The Peanut Butter Falcon passed million this weekend, making it the seventh-highest-grossing film in the company’s history. A film that was hoping to replicate that success was Amazon’s Brittany Runs a Marathon, which finally entered wide release this weekend. But the company may have waited too long: Expanding into 757 theaters in its fifth week netted the film .55 million, which may look comparable to Moonlight moving from 176 to 650 theaters in week five and earning .48 million, but that film still had an entire award season in front of it. Last award season Amazon moved Beautiful Boy from 540 to 776 theaters in the same period and it earned .45 million. Brittany is ahead of that film’s pace with .8 million to date and may indeed pass it to become the company’s second-highest grossing film after this summer’s Late Night.This Time Last YearShane Black’s attempted reboot of The Predator took the top spot at the box office with .6 million. It would eventually be outgrossed by the week’s third-place finisher, A Simple Favor, which started with million and finished with .4 million, the second-best multiple of last September (3.34) for a wide release. The Nun fell a whopping 66.1 percent to second place with .2 million. Other new openers included White Boy Rick, which started in fourth with .86 million, and the continued story of Louis Zamperini in Unbroken: Path to Redemption, which opened in tenth to just .23 million. The top ten films grossed million and averaged 57.8% on the Tomatometer. This year’s top ten grossed an estimated .09 million (the 12th-best September top ten ever) and averaged 64.3% with critics.On the Vine: Space, Home, and Downton AbbeyThree vastly different films are looking for audience attention next week. The one original title is Brad Pitt’s sci-fi adventure Ad Astra, which looks to become the highest-grossing film of director James Gray’s career. But will it be enough to cover the more than million budget of the film originally supposed to open in May? Then John Rambo is back in Rambo: Last Blood, as the character returns to the home from the end of Rambo (the fourth entry in Sylvester Stallone’s franchise.) This one is not being screened for critics so look for its Tomatometer score later than usual. Then there is the big-screen continuation of Downton Abbey. Will Focus be able to score its own hit from its legion of fans or will we see just how limited its die-hard base really is? Maxwell Lord Wants A Better Tomorrow, And His Scheme May Involve Infomercials(Photo by © Warner Bros. )Rich industrialist Maxwell Lord is re-framed here as an early pioneer of the infomercial. But from the pitch we see in the trailer, his product is less a Ron Popeil-style gadget than a fully-realized American Dream. Over the years, Max has pulled off a number of schemes – including a corporatized Justice League – but they all ended when Diana snapped his neck. Both hero and villain since his 1987 introduction, Max’s final evil days overshadow his more heroic years. Of course, any perception we have of him as a hero may be down to his telepathic suggestion.The trailer implies he will be an out-and-out villain, what with him saying he will “take what I want in return” and the shot of him holding a sinister-looking crystal. Also, considering the 1984 setting, a mogul like Maxwell Lord can only be the villain – right?What we do not see, though, is the real scope of his plan or how he will use those infomercials to obtain it. Maybe he s found a way to embed telepathic commands in them? His directive to imagine “everything you ever wanted” may be a clue. And it will likely lead to the chaos near the Capitol.3. It’s Definitely Steve Trevor And He’s The Fish-Out-Of-Water This Time(Photo by © Warner Bros. )Right before the trailer’s debut at CCXP, director Patty Jenkins said the story could not be told without Steve Trevor. So, we’re excepting Diana’s embrace of him in the middle of the trailer as proof that this is, indeed, the real Steve Trevor who died in 1919 magically returned.But perhaps more interesting is the trailer’s stinger, in which Steve mistakes a modern trash can for a piece of modern art. Between that and the fanny pack, it’s clear Steve will take Diana’s place as the fish-out-of-water in Wonder Woman 1984. It is a fitting reversal and a chance to highlight all those goofy 1980s advancements like digital watches and frozen yogurt. It might be the most obvious scene to reprise, but Steve almost has to tell a fro-yo vender “You must be very proud” at some point during the film.Also, Steve s the world needs you line late in the trailer suggests we may loose him again well before the end of the film.4. Diana Does Some Old-School Superheroics at the Mall(Photo by © Warner Bros. )Sure, Diana may have completed a traditional rescue in Justice League, and her actions in the first film are quite heroic, but the trailer offers a glimpse of Diana’s crime-stopping abilities as she disarms two would-be thieves at a mall. The brief shots of the scene – which include her jumping into the center-court atrium and smashing pistols with her bare hands – look like the sort of DC heroics we expect in films like Wonder Woman 1984, even if crime takes a back-seat to New Gods, old gods, and would-be tyrants.But we couldn’t help but notice the seemingly odd inclusion of Diana using her tiara to smash several security cameras. It seems the film will still play with the idea – established in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – that Diana was incognito from the end of World War I to Doomsday’s attack on Metropolis. How she can possibly keep herself secret with that costume and the very public events glimpses in the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer is a questions we cannot wait to see answered.5. Full. Armored. Diana.(Photo by © Warner Bros. )We’ve know about Diana’s armor since an earlier poster for the film was released. But the trailer gives us the full view of Diana’s incredible Golden Eagle Armor. Based on a design by Kingdom Come artist Alex Ross, it originally appeared as Diana’s final costume in that story’s bleak future. But it is such an impressive design, it eventually found its way into mainstream DC Comics continuity. It s appearance, though, always suggests this is Diana’s true battle garb – a suit of armor meant for war.Of course, war has a particular meaning to Diana as the God of War is her uncle. Okay, at least in some stories, Ares is her uncle. And that leaves a big question mark in the world of the Wonder Woman films. Did Ares (played by David Thewlis in Wonder Woman) survive or has someone else taken his place as the God of War? The lighting-heavy skies seen at 2:00 certainly echo Ares’s effect on the atmosphere during the first film’s climax, but it is also possible his seat in the Pantheon is still vacant.And, as it happens, Diana took her uncle’s seat in recent DC Comics storylines …It could also just be the gear she needs to take on Max and Cheetah during the final confrontation. Or maybe it s in the film just because it looks cool – with the wings or without.Bonus: Blue Monday (Photo by © Warner Bros. )New Order’s classic 1983 single “Blue Monday” isn’t just a random piece of music chosen for the trailer. It also appears to be the official theme of the film’s early publicity. The song cemented the group’s transition from a post-punk act to a dance band. Curiously, its life began as a track the band could automate on their synthesizers and leave the stage in lieu of an actual encore. In the year since, it has become their encore song, but they remain on stage to play it.The song’s association with the film’s early marketing efforts – and the great symphonic rendition used in the trailer – suggests it may be a key element of the film itself. But considering New Order lyricist Bernard Sumner writes inscrutable words and, sometimes, portentous-sounding filler to accompany the more important music, “Blue Monday” may not be an easily deciphered clue.Although, we can guess key lines like “And still I find it so hard/To say what I need to say” could reflect Barbara’s state of mind. Alternatively, “Blue Monday” is just the sound of the 1980s in seven minutes and 29 seconds – provided you’re listening to the original 12’’ release.Like this? Ghcxuf (Photo by © Sony Pictures Releasing / © Marvel Entertainment)Venom first appeared on the big screen in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, which racked up an impressive 1.1 million opening weekend before suffering a very unimpressive 2.22 multiple towards its final gross, which was hampered by disappointed fans. The character was rebooted in 2018 with Tom Hardy in a standalone anti-hero take on the classic villain, and that film, Venom, opened to .2 million. While Rotten at 30% on the Tomatometer, it made it to 3.5 million (a 2.66 multiple), even if its competitor that October weekend (Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born) ultimately bested it with over 5 million. But that was then, this is now. The world has been through the downswing of a pandemic and not even the richest sequel or franchise film has been able to outgross its predecessor in that time. Until this weekend, when Venom: Let There Be Carnage opened at .1 million, beating the original film, marking the biggest three-day weekend of the pandemic era, and the second-best October opening ever behind Joker s .2 million opening in 2019.Let’s trace the path of the weekend for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which is currently registering a 59% on the Tomatometer – one precious percentage point away from Fresh. On Thursday night, the theater-exclusive grossed .6 million, which was second only to Black Widow’s .2 million pre-Premier Access Thursday for the pandemic era. On Friday the film grossed an estimated .3 million, again second to Widow’s .5 million start when it was available for .99 on Disney+ as well. Historically, the only film to open with over million on Friday and not gross million over the weekend was the first Twilight film back in 2008. The vampire flick and Black Widow have been the only films with million-plus Fridays (out of 71 films) not to cross 0 million in their first five days of release (and subsequently not hit 0 million). Only Shang-Chi has reached that milestone as quickly during the pandemic, in part aided by the Labor Day holiday.Let There Be Carnage s whopping .1 million weekend (at least million higher than some of the best early estimates) would suggest that the Venom sequel could be on a path towards the new ceiling established by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but it is that very film that could stand in its way. Over four straight weeks, not a single film came close to challenging Shang-Chi for the top spot at the box office. Not one other film that opened throughout September opened to million or more. In fact, the three other biggest openings included two HBO Max hybrids (Malignant at .43 million and Cry Macho and .42 million) and musical Dear Evan Hansen, which had the second-best opening of last month with .44 million (and dropped 68% this weekend to .4 million). Shang-Chi had no challengers and word of mouth was good. The latter remains to be seen on the second Venom, but the next three weeks are filled with significant competition in the form of No Time to Die, Halloween Kills, The Last Duel, and Dune.The first Venom film dropped 56.4% in weekend two when faced with First Man, Goosebumps 2, and Bad Times at the El Royale, all of which grossed less than half of Venom’s second week at no. 1. It would take until its fifth weekend before any film other than A Star is Born or David Gordon Green’s Halloween would beat it. Let There Be Carnage is not going to have that luxury. A path will become clearer next week and we’ll see if it beats Shang-Chi’s .7 million second weekend. For now, some other good news: The total earnings of this week s top 10, currently estimated at 6.93 million, make it the 10th-best October weekend for the top 10 films ever.The Top 10 and Beyond: Addams Family 2 Proves Family Films Still Have Box Office Life, While Saints Fails to Draw Mobs of Fans(Photo by © MGM )Opening in second place this weekend was The Addams Family 2, which is in theaters at the same time that it is available on VOD for .99. Remember this is the weekend that Sony initially abandoned its plans for an opener with Hotel Transylvania: Transformia. That film was sold to Amazon; Sony replaced it with Venom Deux and MGM/UA read the tea leaves that family films were still not up to full potential given the lack of vaccine availability for kids in their demographic. Nevertheless, an million weekend is not bad all things considered. The Boss Baby: Family Business opened to million in July and that was simultaneously streaming for free on Peacock. That was also a 68.1% drop from the original’s million opening, while The Addams Family 2 is only about a 40.6% drop from the first Addams Family film s .3 million start. It’s also the second-best opening since the reforming of UA Releasing, ahead of fellow reboots/remakes of Child’s Play (.09 million) and The Hustle ( million).
