亚博苹果APP下载采用百度引擎2(Baidu 6)Benjamin Lindsay for Rotten Tomatoes: The second half of season 5 marks your grand return. Tell us about that first phone call with Michael Hirst when he told you that you were coming back. What was that discussion like?Clive Standen: It was great, because it was more about the discussion before I left. At the end of season 4, we talked about the death of Ragnar, and I was concerned because I was going, “Well, most of my storyline is entwined with Ragnar’s. It’s very much the saga of Rollo and Ragnar at the moment, and then the next stage is the sons of Ragnar, it’s the Golden Age of the Vikings — and I’m not sure how Rollo fits in with that.” And [Hirst] said, “Yeah, you’re right,” and I said, “Well, I don’t really want to stick around in the show if I’m doing a disservice to the character and the audience.” And he said, “You’re right.” It was literally like we cleared the air because he was going, “Well, this is a problem. We don’t want to lose you, Clive, but it’s called Vikings.” He has to introduce these sons because we’re losing a major character in the show. We need to create some more characters that people can root for and some new stories and alliances, and they’ll see the saga of the Vikings in the Golden Age — we go all sorts of places. So we put Rollo on a hiatus, and that was nice.I mean, Taken came along for NBC, and I did that and that kept me really busy, and a couple of other films in between. And then Michael said, “Don’t worry, I’m going to find the most opportunistic moment to bring you back, and it’s going to be like the old Rollo: He’s going to be like a volcano all over again; he’s going to erupt and everyone’s going to have to deal with the consequences.” And that’s what he did. He rang: “Look, you’re coming back, I’m sending you the scripts tomorrow.” We had a little talk about it, and it was everything I wanted. It’s a fiery return, and there’s so much going on that we were able to add to what the real Rollo was doing in history. In the later life of Rollo, there were historical documents that recorded that he was questioning his own mortality, and he lined up 100 Christian soldiers to be slaughtered in the town square and at the same time sent 100 pounds in weight in gold to the Christian churches. This was certainly a man who was worried about the gods he’s worshiped his whole life accepting him into Valhalla, so he’ll appease them by sacrificing 100 soldiers and at the same time sending 100 pounds in gold to the Christian church to kind of hedge his bets. We didn’t want to do it like that. We didn’t want to make a big thing of it, but we thought we’ll pay homage to that. So Rollo is coming back, and he’s dealing with his past wrongs.Obviously he has a whole [group of] people that he looks after now, that he rules over, and they come first. As the Duke of Normandy, he’s matured. He has responsibilities and he’s a leader. So the politics of the situation come first, and that’s what gives him the opportunity to come back and make an alliance with Ivar. But it was really in the end what Vikings is always about: It’s about family. It’s about all those emotions. It’s about coming back and opening up those old wounds and hopefully having people that may sew them up for him. He has no idea if that’s going to happen, and that’s what plays out in the episode. That’s the real reason for his return: facing his demons head on.(Photo by Jonathan Hession/History)A lot of people may see the fact that Rollo gave Ivar the assist as a betrayal to Lagertha and Björn. Is there more than meets the eye to the situation? That’s the thing: Whenever Rollo comes back for a new season, Michael and I always want to make people think — to expect the unexpected. He is coming back, and he’s not team Lagertha and he’s not team Ivar. He’s purely team Rollo, as he’s always been.Ivar is very much the runt of his brothers. He was born disabled. He was kind of written off as a child by his own father; Ragnar left him in the wilderness with an ax to fend for himself. The brothers were teasing him. He’s risen up against all odds and learned the hard way, and now a lot of what drives him is that.Rollo is no different. If you think about Rollo being the shadow of his brother, who went on to become the King of Sweden and do so much in the Viking mythology, he always felt like he was second best. When you compare Rollo and Ivar, Rollo has been there, done that, and got the T-shirt. He’s now an old, wise dog. So there’s nothing Ivar can throw at Rollo that he hasn’t seen coming way down the line. It’s a chance to school this little runt [laughs]. But he also offers Lagertha and Björn something that he feels that they can never, ever turn down.So is he really team Ivar? He needs a reason to go there in person. He has responsibilities now as the Duke of Normandy, he’s become — in history, and it’s no different from our story in the series — stronger than the king of France. So he needs a reason to go and help Lagertha and Björn, but his alliance is obviously with his own people. He needs to provide what’s more beneficial for the people of Normandy, and that’s always going to be the case. There has to be an alliance with Ivar because Ivar is the King of Sweden. His position as the Duke of Normandy is a transition from the savagery of the Vikings to a more sophisticated European place of power. Has Rollo missed the fighting and savagery?Definitely. I’m not sure if it made the cut, but I hope it does: There was a scene we filmed where Rollo talks about an old Berserker he knew — which is obviously Rollo — that missed the battles. That’s what he was best at. He would gather all the pots and pans and weapons and anything metal in his domain and carry them to the top of the hill and threw them off the top so they clattered and crashed and smashed against the rocks below, just so he could hear the sounds of battle one last time. And, you know, Rollo is really speaking about himself. I don’t think it makes it into this episode, but that was a real sense of getting under the skin of Rollo for me, because very rarely does he actually talk about how he feels. There was a scene late in season 2, I think, where Floki’s character is talking to Björn about Rollo and says something along the lines of, “Unfortunately, the warrior never reveals [himself]. You’ll never know what’s going on in the warrior’s heart, so the ax reveals it.” And there’s a lovely parallel seen in this episode. It all certainly gives you a lot to play with as an actor. In a previous interview Michael Hirst hinted that going into season 5, part of the action is going to be based on a “seed” planted in season 1 between you and Lagertha. Can you speak to what that seed might be? What should we be keeping our eyes peeled for? This is one of those moments where as an actor, you just realize that you’re in such a special show and you work with so many amazing people. Our very first director, who I’m always going to speak to the rafters about, Johan Renck, [is] a phenomenal director. I remember the very first scene with Lagertha, Ragnar, and Rollo. He likes to take actors out of the set and whisper things into their ears — every single take something different just to try to get a different performance and see how it changes. And it’s always the subtext; it’s always about what’s not being said.He whispered something into my ear in a scene where Ragnar goes out to relieve himself and [Rollo is] left all alone with Lagertha for a second that changed the whole construct of the scene. It was never said. I think maybe some may have picked up on it, but I never forgot it because it was a note that I never really thought about, and it made me as an actor question the whole character a little bit more and the subtext that Michael was writing. It’s lovely to have something that started out like, just as you said, a seed that’s come to fruition, and it’s grown, and the actor finally gets to speak it out loud. Maybe half the [audience] will go, “I knew it!” and then half of the other people are like, “Oh my god!” But what I love is that it all came from Michael’s writing and also this brilliant director at the very, very beginning.(Photo by Jonathan Hession/History)It sounds like you’re tapped in to fan theories and the discussion surrounding your character and this “seed.” What do you say to theories surrounding Björn’s parentage?Well, there was no paternity test back then in those days, so no one really knows at the end of the day. It’s not like you can get a pregnancy test and find out! Or take a sample of Viking hair and go get a DNA test.If only! But that’s what’s so great about Michael’s writing. There’s always a reason for why someone hates someone so much. There’s a fine line between love and hate. You know, if someone’s impassive towards someone, then there’s no story. But drama is built on conflict, and the fact that a character can one minute have so much anger towards someone and the next minute have so much compassion usually means that there’s a history between them or that there’s a love there. There’ve been scenes between Rollo and Lagertha all the way through Vikings: sometimes she hates him, sometimes he hates her, sometimes he loves her. It’s all that stuff, just as it was with Ragnar and Lagertha when Ragnar moved on from his marriage with Lagertha. That’s the good stuff. Nothing is stronger than our imagination, and I think what’s nice is that this has festered for a little while and now it’s either going to let people down or it’s going to explode the world of Vikings a little bit more.

Debbie DayFALL 2020 TV SURVEY: 30 MOST ANTICIPATED NEW SHOWSFor Rotten Tomatoes’ annual Fall TV Survey, we asked 1,000 of our users what they’re most looking forward to in the coming TV season and to reflect on the best shows from seasons past. When film and television production shut down in March, it threw a wrench into the TV production schedule for the rest of the year. Sadly, plenty of series that were initially supposed to premiere in 2020 are now being pushed to 2021 (and potentially beyond). So, while Rotten Tomatoes users were most pumped about the first Disney+ MCU series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it looks as though they re going to have to wait a little longer for the Anthony Mackie–Sebastian Stan vehicle. But there s still plenty of great television hitting the small screen this year: The No. 1 new show that Rotten Tomatoes users are most looking forward to seeing is The Stand, CBS All Access take on the post-apocalyptic Stephen King story that premieres later this year. In second is The Haunting of Bly Manor, the follow-up to The Haunting of Hill House from the same creative team (and much of the same cast). The gender splits were pretty even, with men and women anticipating each of the titles in pretty similar amounts, though more women are excited for the latest Ryan Murphy–Sarah Paulson collaboration, Netflix s Ratched (inspired by One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest), and more men are looking forward to Hulu s remake of the beloved animated series Animaniacs.Disagree with the survey results? Tell us in the comments who you think should have made the list or have been ranked higher.Updated: The list has been updated since publication to correct an error in the ranking. (Photo by NBC)It s been 15 years since The Office first premiered on March 24, 2005. The notion of an American take on the Ricky Gervais–created UK series of the same name was a risk. But NBC was up for the challenge. Greg Daniels (creator of King of the Hill and former writer on The Simpsons) assembled a talented ensemble — Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Mindy Kaling, Rainn Wilson, Ellie Kemper, and many more — to disrupt the world of TV sitcoms. The workplace comedy that put Scranton, Pennsylvania, on the map definitely endured a rocky start, along with the threat of cancellation, but it eventually found its footing and has since gone on to be considered a television great. After nine seasons, the program came to an end on May 16, 2013. And yet, all these years later, The Office continues to be in high demand. As social distancing becomes our new norm, more-and-more viewers are looking for some small-screen comfort food, and The Office just keeps ticking all the boxes — it is all sort of poetic when you think of it.With NBC s plan to exclusively house the series on its new platform Peacock by year s end, the game-changing sitcom continues to be one of Netflix s most popular shows.Recommended: The 200 Best Comedy Series of All TimeSure, the times and technology have definitely changed, but the program sidestepped addressing current events or politics, instead focusing on the cast of unique characters, a variety of oddball situations, and a surprisingly large amount of heartfelt drama. That winning combination has kept The Office relevant and relatable. Case in point: pop-music sensation Billie Eilish was just four-years-old when the series started airing on NBC, but she s such a die-hard fan of the program (in 2019, the Grammy-winning singer admitted to watching the series 12 times, in its entirety) that she once stunned Office star Wilson with her trivia knowledge about the series. In this cluttered television landscape, how has the show endured? Let s take a closer look at the many ways The Office changed TV forever.IT BROUGHT THE MOCKUMENTARY FORMAT FRONT-AND-CENTER(Photo by NBC)Up until fairly recently, the multi-camera format was the name of the game in the sitcom world. The Office changed all that. It wasn t the first comedy to strip away the studio audience and live theater aesthetic, mind you. Shows like Scrubs, Arrested Development, and Reno 911! had already charted that territory. But the stripped-down format of the NBC series, along with the mundane nature of the Dunder Mifflin set, shed the Hollywood-ness of the production and brought the audience into the relatable on-the-job story in a way that hadn t really happened in television since the early days of M*A*S*H.The Office was, in its own story world, the result of a hardly-seen crew that was filming a documentary titled The Office: An American Workplace. With that rule firmly in-place, each character in the series was given carte blanche to spread their wacky wings and break the fourth wall whenever it was justified — whether it was Jim Halpert (Krasinski) giving a knowing look to camera, Dwight Schrute (Wilson) flexing his intrinsic knowledge about Amish farm-life, or the many confessional interviews conducted with the paper company s quirky employees.IT SURVIVED THE PIVOT TO REALITY AND HELPED OTHERS DO SO TOO(Photo by NBC)When The Office started airing, there was a new genre of programming to contend with: reality TV. The barrage of easy-to-shoot, low-cost productions like American Idol, Survivor, and The Bachelor attracted a huge viewership and led to the worry that this type of programming would end up being the content king, kicking freshman comedies and dramas to the curb.Instead of trying to fight this trend, Greg Daniels leaned into the show s documentary style and gave audiences some familiar-feeling sequences, from the personal interviews we mentioned above to the guerrilla filmmaking aesthetic that found the camera crew often struggling to keep up with the action as it unfolded. In the process, a fresh crop of mockumentary-style programs (Modern Family and Parks and Recreation, to name a couple) began popping up, using these reality-style story mechanisms to tell their respective tales, creating a new narrative language, altogether.WITH SOME HEART, IT BROUGHT CRINGE COMEDY TO THE MAINSTREAM(Photo by NBC)NBC had placed a huge gamble on The Office, relying heavily on the groundwork Gervais laid with the UK series. After its first season finished, it was clear that the network did not yet have a bona fide hit on its hands. One of the main reasons for this was Carell s performance as Michael Scott. Instead of making the character his own, the actor mirrored a lot of what Gervais had done as Office boss David Brent in the UK version. The character wasn t likable, the chemistry with the rest of the cast fell flat, and the comedic story struggled to connect with audiences.Luckily for everyone, NBC gave the show another chance. Thanks to the theatrical success of Judd Apatow s The 40 Year Old Virgin, Carell s celebrity status got a major boost. Suddenly, The Office had a name actor in the title role. And in season 2, Carell gave Michael Scott a welcome sense of empathy and heart, helping to off-set his awfully awkward, inappropriate personality. That story tweak led the charge. Soon, The Office became a wonderful balancing act with its slapstick pranks and cringe comedy on one side and some heartfelt, dramatic story elements on the other. It offered escapism that still hit close to home, as the series regularly explored office-style politics and the realistic worry of job stability, and gave us the blossoming love story of Jim and Pam (Fischer), which was a solid foundation for each and every episode.IT WAS AHEAD OF THE ONLINE-VIEWING CURVE(Photo by Chris Haston/NBCU Photo Bank/NBCUniversal via Getty Images via Getty Images)When The Office hit, MySpace was the website of choice and Twitter was a year away from launching. That didn t stop the show from embracing the coming social media revolution. Recognizing the changing ways in which viewers were consuming content, NBC made The Office one of the first programs to be available to watch on the internet. Once Apple grew its iTunes Store lineup in 2005, audiences began purchasing individual episodes of the show which gave the sitcom a huge boost in numbers when it returned to the network for its second season.Additionally, starting in 2008, The Office began offering fans webisodes for online viewing in-between televised seasons. These short-form episodic stories dug deeper into the lives of different Dunder Mifflin employees, from Kevin s adventures in paying off his debt in Kevin s Bank Loan to Erin and Kelly s team-up as pop girl singing group Subtle Sexuality. IT WAS A COMEDY BOOTCAMP FOR SOME OF TODAY S FUNNIEST PERFORMERS AND CREATORS (Photo by NBC)It s probably safe to say that The Office wouldn t be the comedy classic it is today without the epic cast and crew that helped bring the series to life. Obviously, Carell s newfound celebrity status helped the program get a slew of eyes on it, but the show featured a whole cavalcade of now-marquee Hollywood talent who were fresh-faced newcomers when the workplace comedy first hit the small screen.Dabbling in an experimental, improv-infused work environment, the actors and writers on the show were able to play and find moments and scenes that surprised and delighted fans the world over. Take the kiss between Michael and Oscar in The Gay Witch Hunt, for instance. That bit wasn t scripted, but it was necessary to take things up-a-notch. And it s just one of many examples that make up this collective creative experience of putting The Office together. The program as an epic comedy boot camp for some of today s A-List talent.(Photo by NBC)Before The Office, Krasinski was an unknown actor. He made a name for himself as Jim Halpert on the NBC series and has since used his star power to pivot from the world of comedy to headline TV dramas like Amazon s Jack Ryan and direct movies like A Quiet Place. Kaling didn t just star in the series as Kelly Kapoor, she was also a writer on the series – along with her on-screen beau B.J. Novak, who played Ryan in the series. Her experience on The Office helped pave the way for her to create TV projects like The Mindy Project and Four Weddings and a Funeral. And, while there are many more names worth mentioning (the ongoing character acting work of Wilson and Craig Robinson and Kemper s hilarious stint as former cult member Kimmy Schmidt come to mind), we d be completely remiss if we left out Michael Schur. The former Office writer has prospered greatly in the land of television, creating comedy hits like Parks and Recreation, The Good Place, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.(Photo by NBC)The Office supplied some of the internet s most enduring memes and memorable quotes, and to this day, people still dress up as Dwight for Halloween. Rumors are floating around that an Office reboot may be in our future — don t tease us! And while the groundbreaking comedy went off-the-air seven years ago, The Office — much like Seinfeld and Friends, before it — is beloved by the masses, is still finding a new audience, and has cemented its status as a star in TV and pop-culture history.

When Mike Flanagan dropped his television adaptation of Shirley Jackson s The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix in 2018, the horror series became a hit for the streamer.Telling the story of the traumatized Crain family — played by Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, Timothy Hutton, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Victoria Pedretti, Kate Siegel, Elizabeth Reaser, and Michiel Huisman — the show explored the impact of trauma and grief as each family member evolved over the years. And as they returned to their childhood home to face the ghosts of their past and the demons of their present, The Haunting of Hill House, Certified Fresh with a 93% Tomatometer score on 96 reviews, impressed critics and horror fans alike. It s been two years, and Flanagan has returned with most of his crew  for The Haunting of Bly Manor. The new installment in the Haunting anthology franchise also features newcomers, including Amelia Eve, T Nia Miller, Rahul Kholi, Tahirah Sharif, Amelie Bea Smith, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. This new series story adapts Henry James gothic novella The Turn of the Screw, an 1898 ghost story that follows a young governess who watches over an orphaned brother and sister at the haunted Bly Manor in Essex, England. The majority of Flanagan s story takes place in 1987, but still explores issues of love, loss, and the soul-stirring grief that follows. But how will the season s core group of friends — or, its chosen family, — chart a new narrative course for the anthology? And what s with those dolls? The cast behind season 2 of Netflix s hit horror-drama spoke with Rotten Tomatoes recently and teased a handful of ghostly goodies. 1.  It s About Ghosts, New Connections, and Escaping the Past(Photo by EIKE SCHROTER/NETFLIX © 2020)In The Turn of the Screw, a young governess looks after two troubled kids. The Haunting of Bly Manor tells the story of au pair Dani Clayton (Pedretti), who arrives at the manor excited to take on this new job and hoping to start a new life.  Dani first found herself just being born and brought up in a place where she doesn t really fit in where she can t be fully herself, Pedretti explains. And so she escapes that environment seeking something for herself, seeking real fulfillment. She shows up, and meets these two children that have been abandoned after dealing with incredibly traumatizing and stressful experiences.  Trauma can act as a ghost in art and life, and Dani s arrival to Bly Manor doesn t help her run from her past — instead, it forces her to face her demons head-on.2. There s a Soul Family At Its Center(Photo by EIKE SCHROTER/NETFLIX © 2020)Bly Manor s central family will look a bit different from its predecessor s. In Flanagan s Hill House, we saw trauma slowly fracture what was once a strong family unit; the new series flips the script a bit and shows how similar wounds can connect people from different walks of life in an unlikely community. These people, they ve all had traumatic experiences with their blood family, or they don t have any family, Miller, who plays Bly Manor s housekeeper Hannah Grose, explains. Actually, the love there is true, it s real, and it s their soul family. And sometimes soul families in real life, modern life, actually carry us through far more than our biol

The first trailer for It: Chapter Two dropped on Thursday morning and well, thanks yet again for the nightmares, Pennywise, Warner Bros., Andy Muschietti and Co. Really, thanks a bunch. The bulk of the first trailer is made up of a 2 minute and 15 second scene featuring Jessica Chastain s adult Beverly coming back to Derry to visit her childhood home and meeting its current occupant – the schvitzing Mrs Kersh who, of course, is not quite as she seems. After some exchanges of pleasantries ( No one who dies here ever really dies ), we start to see that something is amiss. As in moves-around-in-the-background-like-a-dancing-clown amiss.(Photo by @ Warner Bros. Pictures)Turns out Kersh is Pennywise s daughter or so she says. The rest of the trailer features a series of quick cuts that reveal the Losers Club is back together, Pennywise is back up to his old tricks (the red balloon budget has increased sizably), romance is in the air, and we will definitely get to see the original film s younger cast in multiple flashbacks. The flavor of the original, and of Stephen King s 1986 novel, all looks in place. There are hints this could be an origin story for Pennywise – there s Kersh, saying she s his daughter (though King fans will know Kersh is a form of IT); images of an un-made-up Pennywise with his traveling circus; and, a harrowing little shot of the clown seemingly tearing off his makeup.(Photo by @ Warner Bros. Pictures)The first It trailer back in March of 2017 was an event, and broke the record for most-watched trailer online in a day with 197 million views across the world. That figure smashed the previous record held by The Fate of the Furious (but has since itself been beaten by The Lion King, Infinity War, and two trailers for Endgame). The 2017 trailer s set of creepy images – red balloons floating through libraries, clowns appearing suddenly in drains – and that terrifying tagline ( You ll float too! ) got horror fans hyped for the movie, which would go on to become the highest-grossing horror movie ever, making more than 0 million worldwide. Will the first trailer for It: Chapter Two have the same impact? The goosebumps on our necks point to yes. But what did you think of the first trailer? Let us know in the comments. In the meantime, check out our picks for the five freakiest moments from the trailer. I was always daddy s little girl. (Photo by @ Warner Bros. Pictures)Holy hell. The extended sequence of Beverly in her childhood home ends with a bang, with Mrs. Kersh running jaggedly out of the dark towards her prey. The two minutes are a study in slow-building suspense – if this is the direction director Andy Muschietti is taking us in, we re definitely here for it.Pennywise Goes Full Carl from Up(Photo by @ Warner Bros. Pictures)Seems that Richie (Bill Hader) has an encounter with our dancing clown at a carnival, and Pennywise has taken that famous sequel directive bigger is better to heart, absolutely piling on the balloons. So he can fly now. Great.A Carrie Homage?(Photo by @ Warner Bros. Pictures)

亚博苹果APP下载 other forms of entertainment based on the characters. This week, we get the latest iteration on the big screen in The Addams Family, an animated film that not only boasts a stacked voice cast that includes Charlize Theron, Oscar Isaac, Chloë Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Allison Janney, and Bette Midler (plus even more, but whew!), but also incorporates character designs directly inspired by Addams original cartoons. The story follows the kooky titular family as they flee yet another town that misunderstands them and settle into an abandoned asylum in New Jersey, only to butt heads with a home improvement reality show host whose goal is to homogenize the entire town. The Addamses have always stood for the power of individuality and represented the part of all of us that sometimes feels like an outsider, which is typically great fodder for a children s film, but critics say The Addams Family mostly misses the mark. Not only does it drown viewers in its sweetness, its script is somehow both altogether predictable and disappointingly disjointed to feel like a single cohesive tale. It s probably plenty engaging for toddlers, but it may be hit-or-miss for anyone older than that.

亚博苹果APP下载 After what feels like 18 months of anticipation and suspense, The CW’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” concluded the only way it could on Tuesday night on DC s Legends of Tomorrow. Taking its inspiration from the 1985 DC Comics maxiseries, a certain change to the status quo was inevitable. But as the producers of the various programs explained to Rotten Tomatoes, this change was always the plan and key to the Arrowverse s growth moving forward. The new format may not be a surprise to readers of the original Crisis on Infinite Earths comics, but the choice to pull the trigger and do it on television — to say nothing of its implications for other DC Entertainment media — is unexpected. Well, perhaps not as unexpected as Crisis writer Marv Wolfman s cameo, of course. Nevertheless, the change means the individual Arrowverse shows will look different when they begin to return next week, so take a tour with us as we investigate this new world and what the Arrowverse will look like in 2020.Earth-Prime Debuts(Photo by Colin Bentley/The CW)As revealed on Tuesday night, the universe was reborn. In its wake is Earth-Prime, an amalgam world in which the CW heroes all co-exist.“We knew from last year that we were going to merge [the worlds] and create Earth-CW, basically,” executive producer Marc Guggenhim said of the “Crisis” conclusion. In choosing a name for this new existence, Guggenheim and the other showrunners latched on to Earth-Prime, which in the DC Comics tradition is the Earth where we, the readers of DC Comics, are said to exist.Of course, Earth-Prime became a fictional world when a Superboy appeared on it shortly before the original Crisis series. And it only gets more messy as subsequent writers returned to the idea and its “Superboy Prime.” But for Guggenheim, the name was the right fit for their new reality. “I just personally liked the sound of Earth-Prime. So all the CW shows [are there],” he said.“[But] Riverdale’s not there,” Batwoman executive producer Caroline Dries interjected.“That would be very weird,” DC’s Legends of Tomorrow co-showrunner Keto Shimizu added.“The CW superhero shows,” Guggenheim clarified.Though now united on one Earth, Guggenheim was quick to point out this new Earth is not the Earth-1 of Arrow, The Flash or Legends. “It s a completely different Earth,” he explained. What that means in the long-term will be revealed as the individual shows move forward. For The Flash and Legends, Earth-Prime s resemblance to Earth-1 means various quirks may continue to appear for seasons to come, like Nash (Tom Cavanagh) being a distinct entity from Harrison Wells. But for Supergirl and Black Lightning, both of which inhabited worlds of their own, Earth-Prime will be major changes to their status quos.Supergirl Welcomes Back an Old Friend(Photo by Dean Buscher/The CW)Supergirl co-showrunner Robert Rovener teased the Crisis was a huge event, and impacts everything going on in the show. This is certainly the case from the brief glimpses of the Earth-Prime National City in the final Crisis episode. Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) is a beloved humanitarian who owns the DEO. He is also Supergirl s chief supporter, or so we re told. How this will actually play out is anyone s guess, but we assume the Lex s presence may alter Kara s (Melissa Benoist) problems with Lena (Katie McGrath) and Leviathan considerably. But even as these concerns simmer, the show s technological bent will continue with Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) returning from the 31st century. Hopefully, the 31st century of the Legion of Superheroes is a brighter place thanks to Winn s time there. Maybe he can bring some of that positivity back to the 21st century.Black Lightning’s World ExpandsThough Black Lightning s creative team was unavailable for comment on the Earth-Prime status quo, stars Christine Adams and Marvin “Krondon” Jones III offered a few glimpses into their post- Crisis reality.“We are exposed to [the] other universes. It s going to become bigger in Freeland,” Jones said. But even with new worlds opened to them — and Jefferson (Cress Williams) obtaining a seat at the Hall of Justice — the situation in Freeland may leave them walled in for some time yet. Of course, Jefferson s new membership in the superhero community may leave viewers to wonder why Barry (Grant Gustin) and Kara are not rushing to his aid. In our reality, it comes down to the fact Black Lightning is shot in Atlanta while the rest of the shows are produced in Vancouver, but Earth-Prime will need to find a good answer for the series standing apart from its Arrowverse siblings. As Adams put it, “In a world that was kind of real before and set in a real place versus this crossover world, how are we going to marry those two things?”Of course, moving Black Lightning and its situation to Earth-Prime means the Markovians will be dealing with more superheroes beyond the Pierce family. Maybe Jefferson can finally form the Outsiders.Batwoman Has an Identity CrisisSince Earth-Prime resembles Earth-1, Dries said the biggest Crisis shock wave Kate (Ruby Rose) faces will stem from that broken Bruce Wayne (Kevin Conroy) she encountered in Part 2.“She just looked at her future in the mirror, and is like, ‘Is this who I m going to become?’ Dries said of the crossover s lasting emotional impact. That worry will also seed the continuing friendship between Kate and Kara — a World s Finest pairing already glimpsed in “Crisis” itself and further cemented by Kate s presence alongside the Danvers sisters in the story s final minutes. As for Alice (Rachel Skarsten) and the other characters?“It s a little tricky, because our characters aren t yet exposed to this notion of multiple universes, and superheroes with powers and stuff,” Dries said.DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Has Trust IssuesFor Shimizu, the challenge in constructing Legends fifth year was more about writing a thematic sequel to “Crisis” before it was completely written: “It was very tricky for us.” Nonetheless, “Crisis” sets up a few ideas for Sara Lance (The CW) going forward even as the show prepares to say goodbye to Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) and Nora Darkh (Courtney Ford).“ Crisis hits [Sara] pretty hard,” Shimizu said. “[But] in a good way.”It s easy to think Oliver s insistence on the heroes building trust will be part of Sara s story going forward. With Constantine (Matt Ryan), Mick (Dominic Purcell), Nora, and Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellars) always ready to choose the morally-gray option, establishing trust is definitely a good thing — even if its just trusting Mick to rob a place blind. And as Crisis seemingly left Sara as the overall leader of the superhero community, it is possible the new season of Legends will focus on her becoming comfortable with the idea. Also, there s that issue about Behrad (Shayan Sobhian) replacing Zari (Tala Ashe) as a Legend. That will no doubt be a runner as the Legends attempt to return history s greatest monsters back into Hell. The Flash Has Miles To Go Before Baby Nora West-Allen ArrivesAccording to Guggenheim, one of Barry s choices in Crisis — we presume it was his insistence on getting into the Speed Force — will reverberate throughout the rest of The Flash s sixth season. Previously, Flash showrunner Eric Wallace told us the post- Crisis storyline will focus on a new antagonist — quite possible the shadowy arms operation Barry and Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) investigated in episode 6 of the season – while Ralph will finally meet Sue Dearbon, to be played by Natalie Dreyfuss. Sue s such a delight, Wallace told us back in October. But do not expect any of season 6 s stories to lead in the direction of Nora West-Allen s birth. Not this season, Wallace said. But that doesn t mean a huge hint to Nora isn t coming. And, as it happens, some of Iris West s experiences during the Bronze Age of comics may become fodder for the show. We do need Iris emotionally to get to this place, he teased. Now, that storyline supports that. And considering Nash s role in the final part of Crisis, we imagine he will be atoning for his misdeeds and finding a new life for himself on this new Earth-Prime.Arrow Makes Way for Green Arrow the CanariesArrow comes to its end later this month. Next week’s episode will be a backdoor pilot for Green Arrow the Canaries – starring Katherine McNamara, Juliana Harkavy, and Katie Cassidy – while the episode after that will be the series finale. Guggenheim and showrunner Beth Schwartz declined to speak about the conclusion, but it will feature Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak. For those with quick memories, Felicity was last seen in 2040, telling the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) she was ready to be reunited with Oliver. Does he still live on some other plane of existence or will she also reach for the peace Oliver accepted at end of Crisis? Superman and Lois Series Takes Off(Photo by Katie Yu/The CW)Though not discussed by the showrunners when we spoke to them about “Crisis,” Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois’s (Elizabeth Tulloch) survival leads into their own series, Superman and Lois. The program will debut in the 2020-2021 broadcast season and see the two adjusting to life as working parents. Lois reference to the boys suggests Clark will have to deal with more than baby Jonathan when he gets home. Presumably, the series will age him to a tween or teenage while the second child takes his place as an infant. Anything is possible — just look at the way Sara Diggle was restored and made a little older than J.J.Stargirl Rises(Photo by DC Universe)And as revealed in the Crisis conclusion, Stargirl (which will stream on DC Universe and air on The CW the next day) will take place on a newly reformed Earth-2. It makes total sense as Stargirl (Brec Bassinger) has strong ties to the Justice Society of America — a team traditionally placed on Earth-2 in the comics.Meanwhile, it was also nice to see Titans recognized as the show of Earth-9, Doom Patrol as happening on Earth-21, and Swamp Thing taking place on Earth-19. Since most of the DC Universe shows are also produced by Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti, giving them a place in the Multiverse was one of the miniseries greatest surprises. The Multiverse Is RebornAs for the Multiverse, it has been born anew with Earth-Prime as its new anchor. While the original Crisis comic book condensed all realities into one new Earth, the producers of the television Crisis saw the value in keeping the concept around around. Now, the DC Universe streaming series, theatrical films, and upcoming shows like HBO Max s Green Lantern all exist within a framework very close to the CW s reality. And as Ezra Miller s absolutely shocking appearance in Crisis confirms, the Arrowverse is a place where anything can happen and just about any DC Comics character can appear. It is, oddly enough, the best of all possibilities and an inadvertent fix to DC Entertainment s wild and sometimes contradictory array of content — they are all true in the infinitude. At least until the next crisis. But at least there will be a group of Superfriends to defend reality against it.
