亚博全站最新网站采用百度引擎3(Baidu 8)We’re reaching the dog days of summer, people! Sometimes, you’ve just gotta post up in front of the air conditioner between trips to the beach and enjoy a nice TV binge. That’s where we come in. With several returning sophomore series and two long-running favorites bidding adieu, there’s plenty to keep you busy this August. Catch it all below.Dear White People 95% (Netflix)What it is: Based on writer-director Justin Simien’s 2014 film of the same name, Dear White People takes place on a predominantly white Ivy League college campus and, through the perspective of several different African-American characters, explores and satirizes the racial tensions, microaggressions, and social injustices experienced while there. Why you should watch it:  As funny as it is revealing, this ensemble piece for Netflix fearlessly goes where other network and primetime programs don’t dare to, not just representing the current social and political climate, but crystallizing lasting truths within it. Airtight scripts and a bevy of standout performances make the upcoming third season a must-watch for fans new and old. Season 3 premieres in full Aug. 2 on Netflix.Where to watch it: NetflixCommitment: Approx. 10 hours (for the first two seasons)Preacher 87% (AMC)What it is: Sam Catlin, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen teamed up back in 2016 to adapt Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult comic book about a preacher named Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) who’s on a violently allegorical quest to “find God” — plus vampires, exploding holy men, extraterrestrial entities, and gun-slinging exes (played by Ruth Negga, no less). The series, now entering its fourth and final season on AMC, has reached comparable cult status. Why you should watch it: If the above soundbite wasn’t at least enticing, this series is probably not for you. But if your interest is piqued, Preacher is sheer perfection. Unapologetically bloody, brazen, and bad to the bone, this series came at the height of peak genre TV and to this day runs with the best of them. Season 4 premieres Aug. 4 on AMC.Where to watch it: Amazon, FandangoNOW, Google Play, Hulu, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 25 hours (for the first three seasons)GLOW 92% (Netflix)What it is: From creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, GLOW (taken from the real-life ’80s entertainment series, Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling), follows a pair of down-and-out actresses who unwittingly find themselves cast in a televised women’s wrestling league. Following both their personal and professional lives, the dramedy centers on Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin), and the man who runs the league, Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron). Why you should watch it: On paper, GLOW sounds like the kind of series that’s just so crazy it might work. Then again, it is from producer Jenji Kohan (Weeds, Orange Is the New Black), so it boasts a creative team that has a track record of doing just that. Utterly unique in the world of the half-hour dramedy, this standout series is lead by a stellar cast of kickass ladies (and even more behind the camera). Season 3 premieres in full Aug. 9 on Netflix.Where to watch it: NetflixCommitment: Approx. 10 hours (for the first two seasons)RELATED: Video: GLOW Stars Alison Brie, Marc Maron, and Betty Gilpin Play ‘Wrestler or Rapper’ Succession 94% (HBO)What it is: Succession is all about what happens when powerful people behave badly and — sometimes — are faced with consequences. Charting one media mogul family’s changing of the guard (with back-stabbing, side-dealing, and bribing a-plenty), the series, from creator Jesse Armstrong, stars Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Natalie Gold, and Emmy winner Brian Cox as the central Roy family patriarch. Why you should watch it: If HBO viewers love two things, it’s watching disparate characters fighting for a throne (hello, Game of Thrones) and extreme, dramatic family discord (Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Big Love need we go on?). Fortunately, the power-hungry media family of Succession has both in spades, and it boasts top-tier performances to match. Why else would it be recognized with a fistful of 2019 Emmy nominations, including best drama series? Catch up before season 2 premieres Aug. 11 on HBO.Where to watch it: Amazon, FandangoNow, Google Play, HBO Now, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 10 hours (for the first season)Lodge 49 93% (AMC)What it is: Set in the sun-drenched but dry-spelled locale of Long Beach, California, creator Jim Gavin’s Lodge 49 follows ex-surfer and current burnout Dud Dudley (Wyatt Russell, son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn) as he tries to get his life back together by going with the flow — a fate that brings him to the adrift, philosophically-minded community of Lodge 49. Why you should watch it: What an odd little series Lodge 49 is, but if you stick with it, the magic that’s at play slowly comes to the fore and makes the experience all the more worthwhile. To say much more of the fate that’s in store for viewers of this wholly-original hour-long comedy is to do a disservice to its long-view intention, but you won’t be sorry for following Russell’s “The Dude”–esque hero to the titular lodge’s doorstep. Season 2 premieres Aug. 12 on AMC.Where to watch it: Amazon, Google Play, Hulu, MicrosoftCommitment: Approx. 7.5 hours (for the first season)The Terror 87% (AMC)What it is: Based on Dan Simmons’ 2007 novel of the same name, The Terror is a horror anthology series from creators David Kajganich, Max Borenstein, and Alexander Woo. Season 1 takes the real-world tragedy of the 1845 disappearance and ultimate mass death aboard two British expedition ships and fictionalizes it as a tale of monsters and survival. Why you should watch it: While it’s an anthology series, you’d be remiss to skip out on The Terror’s first season before tuning into round 2: The Terror: Infamy. Creatively suspenseful, tragic, and altogether horrifying, it’s a 10-episode order that fans of the genre will love. Season 2 premieres Aug. 12 on AMC. Where to watch it: Amazon, Google Play, Hulu, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 8 hours (for the first season)RELATED: The Terror Truths Revealed in a Gruesome Finale and Insights from the Horror Series’ Showrunners Sacred Games 76% (Netflix)What it is: Netflix’s first original series made in India is a doozy of a police thriller. Based on Vikram Chandra s 2006 novel of the same name, Sacred Games follows Sartaj Singh of the Mumbai police as he battles personal demons and dives head-first into the city’s dark underbelly of crime and corruption in an effort to save it.Why you should watch it: The series begins with an anonymous call to Sartaj claiming that a looming disaster will wipe out Mumbai’s population in 25 days. Sacred Games’ race-against-the-clock premise does wonders here, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats and eager for more. Season 2 premieres in full Aug. 15 on Netflix.Where to watch it: NetflixCommitment: Approx. 6.5 hours (for the first season)Mindhunter 97% (Netflix)What it is: Mindhunter follows FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench — co-founders, along with psychologist Wendy Carr, of the Bureau s Behavioral Science Unit — as they interview imprisoned serial killers in hopes of understanding patterns of behavior and solving open murder cases in 1977.Why you should watch it: Ripped from the pages of Mindhunter: Inside the FBI s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker, Joe Penhall’s twisty series from executive producers David Fincher and Charlize Theron will keep you guessing to the very end — which is exactly why it became a bit of a phenomenon at the time of its 2017 premiere. Now, two years later, an excellent Jonathan Groff returns as Agent Ford to tackle one of the best-known killers of our time: Charles Manson. Season 2 premieres in full Aug. 16 on Netflix.Where to watch it: NetflixCommitment: Approx. 8 hours (for the first season)RELATED: Mindhunter Stars on Diving Too Deep Into Serial Killer Psychology, Hopes for Season 2 The Affair 86% (Showtime)What it is: As the old adage goes, love is a battlefield, and with The Affair, we’re here to witness some emotional warfare. The titular indiscretion comes about when Alison and Noah meet on Long Island, consummate their desires, and in turn destroy their respective marriages to Cole and Helen, respectively. The Affair is told through the four main players’ rotating perspectives. Why you should watch it: The Golden Globes love to honor a rookie series, but it’s not for nothing that The Affair swept the ceremony after its first season by winning best drama series and best lead actress for Ruth Wilson. Maura Tierney then went on to win for her supporting turn the following year. Male leads Dominic West and Joshua Jackson, though lacking trophies for their roles, are also stellar. Dense and emotionally trying as it may be, they each play characters that you’ll feel for as the dissipation of their happiness and potential reconciliation plays out each week. As the seasons progress, The Affair ups its drama and stakes until what is sure to be a blistering finale. Its fifth and final season premieres Aug. 25 on Showtime.Where to watch: Amazon, FandangoNOW, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 40 hours (for the first four seasons)Power 81% (Starz)What it is: From creator Courtney Kemp Agboh and starring Omari Hardwick as main anti-hero James St. Patrick, Power charts James’ life as he runs a popular nightclub in New York City while moonlighting as an underground drug kingpin. How he keeps it all together while leading a double life is just the tip of the iceberg of this series’ juicy, dramatic hit.Why you should watch it: Over the course of its five seasons, this gritty crime drama has succeeded with a formidable ensemble cast, providing criminally compelling and gloriously soapy performances. Its sixth and final season, which will be split into two halves between 2019 and and 2020, premieres Aug. 25 on Starz.Where to watch it: Amazon, FandangoNOW, Google Play, Hulu, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: About 50 hours (for the five seasons)Like this? (Photo by Josh Ethan Johnson / © A24 / Courtesy Everett Collection)Many who saw Steven Yeun as the suave, stylish playboy Ben in Lee Chang-dong’s Burning were shocked not to see him among the Academy Award nominees for Best Supporting Actor in 2019. The Korean-born American actor, just a few years out from leaving his star-making turn as Glenn on The Walking Dead – the episode still crushes us to this day – had delivered the kind of charismatic, sinister, and layered performance that, had it not been in a foreign film, would have all but assured him a solid awards-season run. Yet, despite some serious campaigning from writers and industry folks who heralded his turn as the almost Ripley-esque figure, it was not to be.Burning was just one within a streak of exciting post-Walking Dead projects that have marked Yeun as one of the most interesting and unpredictable actors of his generation – and one of the Freshest. Since leaving the AMC series in 2016, he has popped up in Bong Joon-ho’s Okja and Boots Riley’s Sorry To Bother You, and he s played the lead in the ultra-violent action/horror/comedy Mayhem, all Certified Fresh; add to that some great TV voice work in acclaimed animated series Tuca Bertie and Wizards. And then there’s this year’s Minari, in which he plays an immigrant father chasing the American dream in the rural South – and dragging an unwitting family along with him – and which won top honors at last year’s Sundance Film Festival.Minari arrives in theaters with three Screen Actors Guild Nominations, including for two for Yeun for Lead Actor and as part of the ensemble, and a controversial Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, despite being a decidedly American production and story. (Pundits predict the Academy won’t be making another Burning-level oversight of his performance when Oscar nominations are eventually announced, either.) Yeun, of course, isn’t focused on the hype, but on the work, and what Minari’s success could mean for American audiences and American stories moving forward.Ahead of the movie’s release, Yeun sat for an extended chat with Rotten Tomatoes to talk about how he has charted his unique career path, playing Minari’s single-minded Jacob, and why he seeks collaborators who are like nobody else.Jacqueline Coley for Rotten Tomatoes: I really wanted first of all to congratulate you on the SAG nominations, both your individual one and the ensemble one, and again, the film s just getting so much great praise. I checked this morning – I didn t know until today – but you re on a five-film Certified Fresh hot streak. Steven Yeun: Really?Yeah. There must have been a lot of offers after The Walking Dead and you could have gone a lot of different directions, but looking at the films you did – everything from Okja and Mayhem to Sorry To Bother You and now Minari – those are specific choices. How did you decide to do those films, and why did you want to work with those filmmakers?Yeun: It s strange, because you re asking me now from a kind of a retrospective lens, and maybe I ve by this point kind of compiled a story to tell about what happened and how I made these choices, but in those moments, I don t know if I had agency like that. I probably did. I certainly said no to things that I felt were just other versions of things that I ve tried before. But I think a lot of it is, for me, I was really trying to find myself. I was really trying to find out who I was and kind of get to play in roles that allowed me the space to express the fullness of, not me per se, but of a character. As an Asian-American actor, prior to Walking Dead, if I had any opportunities at all, it was really mostly to service larger narratives or kind of be a plot point by which to weave the main character around. So I wanted to be the main character that gets to have the plot points to weave around. With Mayhem, I m so thankful to them for giving me my first chance at a leading role. It wasn t a big budget and we shot it in Serbia, but we had some really wonderful people with us. Samara s [Weaving, his co-star] incredible, Joe [Lynch, the director] is great. To flex that muscle was attractive to me.Steven Yeun in Burning. (Photo by © Well Go USA / courtesy Everett Collection)And, then Okja… who wouldn t work for director Bong? I m a huge fan. And so, him reaching out and giving that part to me was extraordinary – and painful, because K was very much something that I was at the time, just somebody straddling two worlds and being unable to service either one. And I think going through that experience – I wasn t necessarily super conscious of what I

Even the Annabelle spin-offs have been met with a mix of positive and negative reviews. Now the third of that specific series, Annabelle Comes Home (the seventh in the overall cinematic universe), is itself garnering a mixture of responses. Some think its variety of monsters make for a fun outing, while others see the concept as too gimmicky and not scary enough for this brand of horror movie. One thing all seem to agree on, though, is that it’s full of more franchise fodder. Here’s what critics are saying about Annabelle Comes Home:How does it fit into the Conjuring Universe?A breath of fresh air for the Conjuring Universe that both surprises with a lighter touch and demonstrates the incredible potential for the expanding continuity.  Eric Eisenberg, CinemaBlendAnnabelle Comes Home is textured differently than the other films in the Conjuring Universe, yet it fits comfortably right into the legacy.  Courtney Howard, Fresh FictionAnnabelle Comes Home never loses the streak of genuine humanity that sets the Conjuring movies apart from many of its horror franchise counterparts.  William Bibbiani, Bloody DisgustingCheekily reflects the drive-in popcorn thrillers from the period in which the movie is set more than it does the other films in the series.  Oliver Jones, ObserverIt s a mix of high points and low points, much like the overall series itself.  Rafer Guzman, NewsdayDespite being a perfectly fine addition to the series, Annabelle Comes Home is just not as inventive or creepy or even scary as some of the other Conjuring films.  Edward Douglas, The Beat(Photo by New Line Cinema)How does it compare to the other Annabelle movies?Easily the best film in the Annabelle franchise. Alyse Wax, ComingSoon.netAnnabelle Comes Home cements the Annabelle trilogy as a rare series that gets better with every installment. Eric Eisenberg, CinemaBlendPure joy… better than ever. Courtney Howard, Fresh FictionMaybe the most hyper and generic. Owen Gleiberman, VarietyIf Annabelle Comes Home should be the last Annabelle-centric film in the series, it feels like a perfect final chapter. Juliet Bennett Rylah, IGN MoviesIs there too much to this installment?Name your fear trigger, and it’s probably there, somewhere, in Annabelle Comes Home… it’s really the horror equivalent of speed dating. Owen Gleiberman, VarietyIt felt a lot like Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed.. Whatever you’re creeped out by, Annabelle Comes Home has got you covered. Patrick Cavanaugh, The Wolfman ComethIf the Conjuring franchise has run low on original methods of making ghosts jump-out-of-your-seat scary, then Dauberman has found a workaround in diversity. Andy Crump, Paste MagazineStarts to feel like a stack of random ideas. Rafer Guzman, Newsday(Photo by New Line Cinema)Does it just feel like it’s made to introduce more spin-offs?Annabelle Comes Home suffers, I think, from a mercantile quality, the sense you’re watching multiple elevator pitches crammed into feature shape. Darren Franich, Entertainment WeeklyIt kind of feels like we are getting a preview of what the next handful of films in the Conjuring Universe will be. To no one’s surprise, Frozen II led the Thanksgiving holiday with a five-day haul of 6.3 million, with .3 million of that coming over the weekend. That is the eighth-best second weekend of all time, wedged between Disney’s 2017 Beauty and the Beast (.4 million) and, well, Disney’s Incredibles 2 (.34 million). Overall, the film has grossed 7.6 million in 10 days, which is the 15th-best ever for 10 days, between Captain America: Civil War (5.96 million) and The Dark Knight Rises (7.11 million). It is the 25th film to have grossed over 0 million in its first 10 days of release. Only three of those films (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Furious 7, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) failed to reach 0 million total. Amongst the 12 other films to have million-plus second weekends, only one of them (Avengers: Age of Ultron) failed to reach 0 million total. However, only two of those movies opened in the holiday season (Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avatar). Frozen II has already amassed another 1 million worldwide for a total of 8 million as it marches to become another  billion grosser for Disney.Fresh Surprise: Knives Out Shows Original Films Can Still Murder At the Box Office It wasn t a total surprise for us at RT – we had placed it in the top 5 holiday earners in our winter box office preview – but Rian Johnson’s Knives Out surpassed all tracking service expectations by earning .7 million since opening Wednesday. The .7 million it earned over the weekend puts it amongst the top 20 Thanksgiving holiday weekends ever – and it is just the fifth film not rated “G” or “PG” to be on that list. Some 61 films have opened in November and grossed over million in their first five days; only four (Pokemon: The First Movie, Dumb and Dumber To, The Muppets, and Unbreakable) failed to reach at least 0 million total. That means Knives Out could join Hustlers, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Us as the only films not based on a previous film or property to reach that milestone in 2019.The Top 10 and Beyond: Queen and Slim Gets a Solid Start, Word-of-Mouth Boosts Beautiful Day(Photo by © Universal)It was back and forth over the holiday for third place, but James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari won the race with .22 million over the weekend and .99 million for the five days. No film opening in November to have grossed at least million in 17 days has failed to reach 0 million. Ford v Ferrari currently stands at million, but its magic number is still going to be around 0 million globally to find its way into profit. With just over 3 million internationally, it is still less than 60% of the way there.Marielle Heller’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood got the word-of-mouth bump over the holiday we were expecting. It is now outpacing Roland Emmerich’s Midway, which just passed the million mark this weekend. Gothika, Starship Troopers, and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms are the only November films to have million after 10 days and not finish with at least million. Midway is looking to join that list given its third weekend (.95 million) was less than what those three films earned in their third weekend. Meanwhile, the Mr. Rogers film, which stands at just over million to date, had a better second weekend (.8 million) than any live-action film in November to have million or less by day 10 of wide release (aside from Jingle All the Way). This suggests that a final gross over million is still very possible for the million-budgeted film. The other newbie of the week was Melina Matsoukas’s Certified Fresh Queen Slim, which grossed .7 million over the weekend and .8 million over the full holiday. That is 0,000 more than what Widows had last year in its first five days before ultimately finishing with million. Last week’s cop thriller, 21 Bridges, is up to just .45 million after 10 days, which puts it in After the Sunset/Delivery Man territory. Its second weekend (.82 million) was about million less than the Vince Vaughn comedy and 21 Bridges may be up at around just - million when it leaves theaters. Finally, Todd Phillips’ Joker spent its eighth straight week in the top 10. It has passed 0 million domestic, .048 billion worldwide, and is Warner Bros. fourth-highest grossing film of all time. Joker also passed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides to become the 35th highest-grossing film of all time. This Time Last Year: Another Possession Could Not Scare Ralph From Top Spot(Photo by © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)It was the weekend after Thanksgiving so grosses were down a bit, but still a lot of people were going to the movies. The only major new release was The Possession of Hannah Grace, which opened in seventh place with .4 million. Ralph Breaks the Internet was again on top with .56 million, passing the 0 million mark. The Grinch moved up to second with .92 million, enough to pass the 0 million line. Creed II fell back to third with .63 million and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald had the steepest fall in the top 10 (61.3%) to .36 million. The top 10 films grossed a total of 6.19 million and averaged 61.4% on the Tomatometer; this year’s top 10 grossed an estimated 6.98 million over the weekend and averaged 67.3% with critics. On the Vine: A Balloon Adventure and an Acclaimed Romance Set to Light Up Indie Box OfficeThe weekend after Thanksgiving is usually a dead zone for new releases and indeed only one film is going wide and that is the oft-delayed animated film from STX, Playmobil: The Movie. The million production was moved from January to April to August and then into December. It has grossed just .4 million in international waters to date, and may have trouble matching that here. In limited release, try to catch The Aeronauts on the biggest screen possible as it is not often you get a chance for a hot air balloon adventure with Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne – especially one that s Certified fesh at 84% on the Tomatometer to date. Even more acclaimed is the 98%-rated Portrait of a Lady On Fire. The beloved French romance was a hit at Cannes this year, winning Best Screenplay, and it is also nominated for Best International Film at the 2020 Independent Spirit Awards. The Full Top 10: November 29-December 1Frozen II (2019) 78% – .25 million (7.57 million total)Knives Out (2019) 97% – .02 million (.7 million total)Ford v Ferrari (2019) 92% – .22 million ( million total)A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019) 95% – .8 million (.31 million total)Queen & Slim (2019) 83% – .7 million (.81 million total)21 Bridges (2019) 54% – .82 million (.46 million total)Playing With Fire (2019) 24% – .2 million (9.2 million total)Midway (2019) 42% – .96 million (.28 million total)Joker (2019) 68% – .98 million (0.6 million total)Last Christmas (2019) 46% – .9 million (.66 million total)

The character is based on the clonetroopers Morrison played in Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith, but voiced throughout Clone Wars by Dee Bradley Baker. The Mandalorian season 1 teased Boba Fett s return when the character s distinctive set of spurs appeared onscreen in episode 5, The Gunslinger, approaching the seemingly lifeless body of Fennec Shand.(Photo by Phillip Chin/Getty Images)The Terminator’s own Micheal Biehn will also be making a Mandalorian appearance, but his role has been successfully kept under wraps since word first broke of his casting back in March. As Carano told EW, actors were shuttled to sets in black cloaks concealing their characters identities from would-be scoopers. Despite the lack of leaks, Biehn s character is said to be a bounty hunter with ties to Djarin s past. Is it possible he s the member of the Mandalorian Death Watch who saved Djarin during the last days of the Old Republic? It would be a great part for Biehn, particularly if he isn t the sort of Mando who is required to keep his helmet on at all times.(Photo by ©Warner Bros./Courtesy Everett Collection; Jean Baptiste Lacroix/WireImage)Ex-Jedi Ahsoka Tano will make her long awaited live-action debut in season 2. She will be played by Rosario Dawson, a nerd herself with credits in geek-leaning productions like Sin City, Clerks 2, and Netflix’s corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character (as voiced by Ashley Eckstein) debuted in the animated Star Wars: Clone Wars feature as Anakin Skywalker’s bratty Padawan. But that starting point was part of Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni’s master plan for the character. Across the seasons, she grew up learning about the Force and the nature of war. Those experiences led her to leave the Jedi Order.Clone Wars was cut short during Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm — although Disney+ eventually commissioned a final season, streaming now — but Filoni soon found a way to add her into the cast of the Star Wars Rebels animated series. Set a number of years after Clone Wars, it revealed a more mature Ahsoka assisting the emerging Rebel Alliance. Her story continued, and even led to a fateful fight with Darth Vader in the season 3 finale. Her survival after that battle was a mystery for the rest of that series’ run until its closing moments. As it turned out, Ahsoka lived into the post-Empire era.Because Filoni always finds a way to include her — and because he was part of The Mandalorian’s development from early on — Ahsoka’s eventual appearance was not entirely unexpected by fans. That it might come so soon (and the casting of Dawson) was more of a surprise — though welcome, to be sure.(Photo by Lucasfilm/Disney+)In the trailer, WWE wrestler Sasha Banks makes a brief appearance as a potential Force-sensitive or Jedi. At least, the juxtaposition of her cameo with Djarin s dialogue about enemy sorcerors indicates she is related to Force users. Her blink-and-you ll miss it moment and disincentive cloak may leave viewers thinking they ve seen Ahsoka, but what it really means for the character s current state is anyone s guess.Ahsoka s apperance also opens the door for other Rebels characters like Sabine (voiced by Tiya Sircar on the animated series) and General Hera Syndulla (voiced by Vanessa Marshall) to appear as well. Granted, Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau made it clear he wanted the first season to feature all-new characters, so it is possible Ahsoka will be the only familiar character we see for now. Then again, Faveau recently said the show has the latitude to be more like Game of Thrones and shift its point of view away from Djarin to other characters. Perhaps there is room enough in The Mandalorian’s region of space for some fan favorites.Alternatively, Carano s own admission that some of the casting rumors are true while others are definitely false will leave us guessing which established character may find a home on the series until the entire season unfolds across the fall and early winter. And then, in the distance, is the possibility of Seasons 3 and 4. The ever-chatty Esposito has made some claims that real info on Gideon will be parsed out during those theoretical seasons. Considering the show’s early success, it seems more than likely The Mandalorian will continue for some time. But without Disney confirming additional seasons, we’ll have to take Esposito’s comments with a grain of salt.Who s Directing?(Photo by Lucasfilm/Disney+)The latest directors revealed themselves on Star Wars Day, May the 4th: Spy Kids filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and Ant-Man’s Peyton Reed confirmed they will be among the directors helming season 2 episodes. With a tweet of himself smiling alongside “the biggest star in the universe,” Rodriguez shared how excited he is to be a part of The Mandalorian’s sophomore season.I am truly humbled to say I have now had the very rare privilege of directing the biggest star in the universe. @StarWars #TheMandalorian #MayThe4th #StarWarsDay pic.twitter.com/pcmzOHfgaW Robert Rodriguez (@Rodriguez) May 5, 2020Reed tweeted a photo of a director s chair with his name on it and The Mandalorian s helmet in the seat, writing simply, #MayThe4thBeWithYou. Favreau, meanwhile, will make his debut as a Mandalorian director with the second season. Though he wrote most of the first season scripts, he was busy with The Lion King during production and handed off the work to Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Deborah Chow, Waititi, and Filoni. Now, with his schedule free, we will get our first glimpse of a Favreau Star Wars film. Weathers will also join the directors circle, as revealed at The Mandalorian premiere event last November. Howard, Famuyiwa, and Filoni also return as episode directors while Chow is off developing the Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+. Additionally, Famuyiwa will also be one of the season’s three writers – the other two being Filoni and executive producer Jon Favreau, who handles most of the scripts himself. What’s It All About?Again, the story could go in just about any direction. But a few things are pretty clear: Gideon will continue his pursuit of The Child while Djarin tries to find some answers to his new ward s mysterious origins and a way to take him home. As seen in the trailer, this means another trip to Tatooine, journeys to planets of snow and water, and at least one close encounter with the New Republic. An additional Special Look trailer released on October 19 added a new wrinkle: Djarin will also be looking for other Mandalorians in the hopes they will guide him on his quest. Weathers has also suggested Karga s attempt at going legit may be laced with some self-interest. Old ways do die hard, after all. Meanwhile, Karga and Dune’s attempts to make Navarro an Imp-free haven will no doubt also get some screentime. With the addition of Ahsoka, though, an additional story may arise: the story teased in the final moments of Rebels. During that series’ climatic battle, main character Ezra Bridger (voiced by Taylor Gray) disappeared alongside Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). In the series closing scene, set years after that battle and sometime after Return of the Jedi, Ahsoka and Sabine agree that they have to bring Ezra home.Of course, this is still The Mandalorian, so it may not get to this story this year or at all. But introducing a live-action Ahsoka suggests the story will eventually be told in the live-action, Disney+ format. And, to be honest, we’re more excited to see that than an Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Not that we’re not excited about the Obi-Wan series as well. We want all the Star Wars.(Photo by Lucasfilm/Disney+)If Ahsoka’s role in The Mandalorian is more contained, it may see Djarin finding her to answer some questions about The Child. And considering the Mandalorians’ dislike of space wizards, she is, oddly enough, the most approachable Force-sensitive available. Also, we’ll go out on a limb and suggest the season will be a little more plot driven than season 1. Just by virtue of having established storylines now, the series will start to feel more serialized than the initial 8 episodes. The second season will also be eight episodes, with Favreau suggesting they will once again vary in length. Although, this time, that variance may be more than just a few minutes. That works for us as we re far from tired of The Mandalorian’s vision of the Star Wars galaxy — we ll take any extra minute we can get with it.When Is It Streaming?(Photo by Disney+)October 30, 2020! Disney+ announced the season 2 premiere date on social media.

PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE WANTS TO WORK WITH JOHN BOYEGA (Photo by Everett Collection)It s not uncommon for Hollywood celebrities to voice their political opinions, and when they do, there are sometimes unintended consequences. Recent Star Wars alumnus John Boyega took to the streets in London this week for a Black Lives Matter protest in support of the movement against police brutality, which sparked up again dramatically following the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis, MN on May 26. During an impassioned speech, Boyega acknowledged the risk inherent in an entertainment figure speaking out in such a manner, saying, Look, I don t know if I m going to have a career after this, but f that. As it turned out, he didn t have anything to worry about, because a deluge of support came in from Hollywood filmmakers eager to work with Boyega on future projects. The list includes Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us), who said, We got you, John Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie); Lin-Manuel Miranda, who said, Oh god I WISH Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz), who said, Have before and would again Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep); Olivia Wilde (Booksmart), who said, Absolutely Peyton Reed (Ant-Man), who said, Anytime at all and also the official Star Wars Twitter account. Boyega s next two films are likely to be an action thriller called Rebel Ridge and a legal drama called Naked Singularity, but it looks like he ll have no shortage of options after that.2. J.K. SIMMONS CONFIRMS RETURN TO SPIDER-MAN(Photo by (c) Columbia courtesy Everett Collection)For the most part, the Spider-Man movies starring Andrew Garfield and now Tom Holland have gone their own way with casting the supporting characters. However, fans were surprised at the end of last year s Spider-Man: Far from Home (Certified Fresh at 90%) to discover that Marvel Studios actually brought back J.K. Simmons for a brief cameo as J. Jonah Jameson, the role he played Sam Raimi s three Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man films. The cameo seemed to tease a potential premise for Tom Holland s third solo Spider-Man movie, and this week, Simmons confirmed that he is indeed signed to return for more Spider-Man sequels (note the plural there). There was, however, some doubt in his statement, because Simmons said, I don’t know if I would use the word ‘expect' when asked if fans can expect to see him in the next film. The next Spider-Man doesn t have an official title (though it s rumored to possibly be Spider-Man: Home Run), but it does have a release date scheduled for November 6, 2021 (pushed back four months from next July due to pandemic-related production delays).3. THE FIRST FEMALE STAR WARS DIRECTOR GETS READY TO KILL THEM ALL (Photo by Jesse Grant/Getty Images)As director J.J. Abrams was preparing to return for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Rotten at 52%), one of his key creative decisions was to make history by hiring actress-turned-filmmaker Victoria Mahoney as his second unit director, making her the first ever woman to serve as a director on a Star Wars film. Mahoney is now signed with Paramount Pictures for what will be her first film as a director (not counting second unit, obviously) since her 2011 debut drama Yelling to the Sky, and it will be an action movie called Kill Them All.  The screenplay by screenwriter James Coyne will be an adaptation of an Oni Press graphic novel described as a love letter to 1990s action movies about a hard-drinking former cop who wants his job back and a betrayed murderess who team up to take down a vicious Miami crime lord.4. SCORSESE HAS REWRITTEN DICAPRIO S ROLE IN KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON(Photo by ©Warner Bros./courtesy Everett Collection)For pretty much the entire time that Martin Scorsese has been developing his adaptation of the true crime novel Killers of the Flower Moon, about an early serial killer case investigated by the F.B.I., he was planning on working with frequent collaborators Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. Along the way, we learned that De Niro was to play the serial killer, and that DiCaprio would be playing one of the lead F.B.I. agents investigating the case. Unfortunately, having Leonardo DiCaprio in a lead role may have led the film s budget to balloon past 0 million. In an effort to keep that cost down, Scorsese has reportedly made changes to DiCaprio s role, which will now instead be a villain (or anti-hero) who is a nephew of De Niro s character and leaves the door open for another (cheaper) actor to play the federal agent. The revelations of these changes came out due to Apple taking over Killers of the Flower Moon from Paramount Pictures. Paramount will still release Killers of the Flower Moon theatrically, and then the film will move to Apple+ for streaming.5. TITO PUENTE BIOPIC NOW BEING DEVELOPED BY EDWARD JAMES OLMOS (Photo by Everett Collection)Thanks to the recent success of Bohemian Rhapsody (Fresh at 60%), Rocketman, and Judy, we re currently in the midst of a mini-boom for musician biopics. The pandemic has obviously delayed film production and release, but two movies that will come out soon are the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect (starring Jennifer Hudson) (12/25/2020) and Baz Luhrmann s Elvis Presley project (11/5/2021), while other musicians with biopics in development include the Bee Gees, Boy George, Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, and Amy Winehouse. Thanks to Edward James Olmos, we can also now add Tito Puente, the King of Mambo, to that list, as Olmos is now working with Puente s family and estate on film and TV projects based on Puente s life and legacy. Before his death in 2000 at the age of 77, Tito Puente had a 50+ year career that included six Grammy Awards (including a lifetime achievement award) as a mambo and Latin jazz musician, band leader, songwriter, and record producer. Puente s most famous song was probably Oye Como Va (thanks in part to Santana also recording the song for their 1970 album Abraxas).6. MORBIUS DIRECTOR TAKING ON THE TRUE STORY OF THE EXECUTION (Photo by Jasin Boland/©Universal courtesy Everett Collection)Before the current pandemic caused industry-wide production delays, Sony s adaptation of the Marvel Comics vampire character Morbius (starring Jared Leto) was to have been released next month on July 10, 2020 (it s now scheduled for March 19, 2021). Morbius was directed by Daniel Espinosa (Child 44, Safe House), who this week entered into a deal to develop The Execution, which is described as a narrative drama about the background to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi Arabian-born dissident and Washington Post columnist who was killed in Istanbul in 2018. The true story behind The Execution will be adapted by screenwriter Petter Skavlan, who also worked on 2012 s Kon-Tiki (Certified Fresh at 81%), which was based on the true story of Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl s expedition across the Pacific Ocean on a raft.

亚博全站最新网站 The Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t had a Rotten movie yet, and the franchise isn’t about to go south with its 21st installment. Captain Marvel is another success for the studio, though according to the first reviews of the movie, it may not quite qualify as top-tier Marvel. Many critics say the story and action are somewhat disappointing, but we’re introduced to many great new characters in a good-enough entry into the superhero genre canon. Here’s what the critics are saying about Captain Marvel:Does it meet expectations?Captain Marvel is the female-driven Marvel film that we’ve been waiting for. Danielle Solzman, Solzy at the MoviesThere are a lot of expectations riding on Marvel’s first female-led (and first female co-directed) feature, and I am happy to report that the film does indeed live up to the hype. Kate Gardner, The Mary SueCaptain Marvel is a must-see for superhero fans, especially those who have craved more female-led stories. Molly Freeman, ScreenRantEngaging, entertaining and empowering, this new and terrific iteration spotlights a strong, complex, fearless woman finding her voice, power and place in the universe. Courtney Howard, Fresh FictionAll-in-all it’s fine, but nothing to get too excited about. And it could have and should have been so much better. Lindsey Bahr, Associated PressHow does it compare to others in the MCU?I do wish there was more of a “wow” factor throughout. There just wasn’t enough at stake. Catalina Combs, Black Girl NerdsThe picture is not dull, exactly, just mundane, marked by unimaginative plotting, cut-rate villains, a bland visual style and a lack of elan in every department. Todd McCarthy, Hollywood ReporterAs generic and retrograde as Black Panther was specific and revolutionary, Captain Marvel is a frustrating disappointment. David Ehrlich, IndieWireCaptain Marvel is one of the studio’s better offerings…[but] It feels less visionary and divergent next to Black Panther. Hannah Woodhead, Little White LiesLuckily, Captain Marvel doesn t have to be better than all of the MCU s previous films to be something enjoyable. Kayti Burt, Den of Geek(Photo by Marvel Studios)What will women think of it?This film gives us the very definition of girl power with a female-led superhero story that encourages and celebrates women empowerment, independence, and confidence. Catalina Combs, Black Girl NerdsThere are plenty of moments where the target market (and beyond) will see themselves reflected. Wholly satisfactory one-liners she drops in the climax provide inspiration – specifically for female filmgoers’ liberation from guilt and doubt. Courtney Howard, Fresh FictionCaptain Marvel doesn’t quite become the powerful feminist movie it purports to be, but it is empowering.  Hoai-Tran Bui, SlashfilmHow is Brie Larson in the lead?Larson is a damn near perfect Carol. She’s funny, tough, and deeply compassionate. Larson conveys so much through a twitch of the lips or a change in expression. Kate Gardner, The Mary SueLarson manages to capture a fiery but playful sense of humor in her character that deftly avoids the tropes associated with naive, superpowered outsiders making first contact with humans.  Meg Downey, IGNLarson s performance is key to the success of Captain Marvel and the actress shoulders that burden exceptionally, nailing the cocky and snarky but ultimately good-hearted hero. Molly Freeman, ScreenRantLarson effortlessly displays the full range of emotions of a woman grappling with her own identity and self-worth…there’s an ease to Larson’s performance and easy chemistry with every character she comes in contact with. Hoai-Tran Bui, SlashfilmThe performance is fine, if not exciting or inspiring. Todd McCarthy, Hollywood ReporterAnd the character herself?I spent over two hours with Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers and I still have no idea what her personality is. Lindsey Bahr, Associated PressCaptain Marvel is far and away the least compelling thing about Captain Marvel…Not since Edward Norton’s Hulk has the MCU offered such a two-dimensional title hero. David Ehrlich, IndieWireCaptain Marvel gives us the rare female action hero who is funny, knows she’s funny, and enjoys it. Susana Polo, Polygon(Photo by Marvel Studios)What about the supporting characters? The buddy cop dynamic of Fury and Carol is easily the strongest relationship. Kayti Burt, Den of GeekThe relationship between Carol and Maria Rambeau… is the team up we want more of. It’s the type of female relationship we don’t get to see regularly on screen. Catalina Combs, Black Girl NerdsThe best female friendship the MCU has ever seen…it is the strength of Maria and Carol’s relationship that elevates the film to another level. Yolanda Machado, io9The film’s busy third act would be a mess if not for its deep bench of supporting characters, who connect to each other in a number of warm and wonderful ways. David Ehrlich, IndieWireHow is Ben Mendelsohn s Villain? He s a far cry from a traditional MCU villain, but what he lacks in deviousness he makes up for in a genuinely charming sense of humor. Meg Downey, IGNAll too often, great actors kind of get lost in these type of alien/villain roles, but Mendelsohn brings a humanity (Skrullanity?) to this role I was not at all expecting. Mike Ryan, UproxxThe film’s MVP is without a doubt Ben Mendelsohn…He’s given much more to do here than in his last high-profile Hollywood gig and appears to be having an absolute blast doing it. Hannah Woodhead, Little White LiesWhat s this we re hearing about a scene-stealing cat?Goose is the real MVP and I need him in every MCU film from now on. Yolanda Machado, io9Get that cat a spinoff. Kate Gardner, The Mary Sue(Photo by Marvel Studios)What s with all the Star Wars comparisons? This is a full-on, strange, sci-fi film. Some of the scenes reminded me of Rey snapping into the endless mirrors during The Last Jedi. Mike Ryan, UproxxTaking a look at the Kree capital for the first time on screen is similar to the first time we saw Coruscant in Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace. Danielle Solzman, Solzy at the MoviesCaptain Marvel makes Solo: A Star Wars Story look bright and cheerful in comparison. Matt Singer, ScreenCrushExperiencing the film s final moments is not unlike the experience of watching the final moments of Rogue One, so cleverly does the film weave its way into existing canon. Kayti Burt, Den of GeekThe climactic sky battle is a spectacular vision, a Star Wars-style dogfight that takes place over sun-washed canyons. Owen Gleiberman, VarietyHow are the action scenes? The action in Captain Marvel is on autopilot — all rapid cuts and no rhythm, and very clearly shot by a second unit who were well-versed in the technical aspects of such a scene. Hoai-Tran Bui, SlashfilmWith the added troubles typical to Marvel Studios movies in terms of their CGI, Captain Marvel s action is lacking at times. Molly Freeman, ScreenRantDoes Captain Marvel make us hopeful for the future of the MCU?If Captain Marvel is indicative of the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then the franchise is more vital and impressive than it has ever been. Brandon Zachary, CBRLarson and Carol are both welcome additions to the massive shared universe with what we can only hope are bright futures ahead of them. Meg Downey, IGNIf our new core characters for the franchise will be T’Challa, Peter, and Carol, then the universe is in good hands. Kate Gardner, The Mary SueIf Captain Marvel is any indication, these movies are about to get a little more weird. Mike Ryan, UproxxI came out of the film not caring all that much about her beyond what her dazzling powers might mean for the next Avengers film, which is perhaps the lamest way of all to experience these movies. Lindsey Bahr, Associated PressCaptain Marvel opens everywhere on March 8.

lesh-and-blood human), Imhotep is an imposing villain, at times intoxicatingly so. He’s a larger-than-afterlife presence, making him an excellent foe for Fraser’s enthusiastic determination. It Shares the Same Exaggerated Gung-Ho Sense of Exploration(Photo by Universal Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)Indiana Jones is a bad archeologist, but he’s an amazing hero. Same with O’Connell and Evie, who are destructive grave robbers even by 1920s standards. That’s not the point of these films, though. The point is to go on an adventure, using the past and exaggerated mysteries of foreign lands as inspiration.Watching O’Connell scream into a decomposing mummy’s face or watching Indy knock a Nazi into some propellers is a hoot, but the battles aren t necessarily what make the films so memorable. It’s the journey into the unknown, following our friendly heroes into archaic, unfamiliar terrain. The matinée serials and pulp magazines both franchises draw from harken back to a very specific era for exploration, one that didn’t ever truly exist as it appears in pop culture, yet feels very nostalgic. The characters of Indiana Jones and The Mummy both live at a turning point of world history, right at the cusp of what we’d recognize as the modern world. It doesn’t seem like there’s much new to discover, so instead, archaeologists Indy and Evie turn to history. And in the world of these films, there’s far more buried in the past than the modern world expects. It’s a romanticism of sorts, one that’s not without its problems, but it makes for an exciting adventure at the crossroads of the past and the present, the intersection of the known world and the unknown. Both The Mummy and Indiana Jones are Way More Violent Than You Might RememberEven though The Mummy is more of an action-adventure romp than a horror movie like its classic predecessor, there are still plenty of scares and suspenseful moments. Indiana Jones operates on a similar level, because it wouldn’t be as exhilarating to see Indy whip his way through danger unless viewers, on some level, really feared that danger. Still, even if you re aware that The Mummy boasts a few scary moments, if you haven’t rewatched it in a while, you might be shocked at just how violent it is.Raiders of the Lost Ark literally melts a dude’s face off during its climax when the Nazis open up the Ark of the Covenant, and who can forget the horrific sight of Mola Ram extracting a still-beating heart from a poor man s chest with his bare hands in Temple of Doom? Taking a page from the same playbook, The Mummy blasts a bunch of excavators with acid, and that’s just a warm-up. Imhotep steals eyes and tongues from his victims, flesh-eating beetles gorge themselves as they crawl beneath the skin of their victims, and there’s plenty of torture. That the movie is technically pretty bloodless only makes the extent of the other gore even more shocking to watch.Raiders of the Lost Ark is infamously rated PG, as the PG-13 rating hadn’t yet been introduced. The Mummy, on the other hand, does sport a PG-13 rating, but in classic Indiana Jones fashion, it pushes the limit. Archaeology is dangerous, violent business, or so these movies would have you think. But for those of us slogging through our decidedly less exciting everyday lives, adventures like The Mummy and the Indiana Jones franchise before it provided thrills and ignited our imaginations like few others did. We don t get a lot of movies like The Mummy any more, and that s perhaps why lots of folks still remember it with unparalleled affection. The Mummy opened in theaters on May 7, 1999. 在此之前,摩尔庄园手游官方微博曾因底层代码问题,导致游戏卡顿、bug、闪退等状况频发,而多次宣告公测延期,也引发了部分玩家的不满。

ith us in South Africa. Gaiman told Rotten Tomatoes the day before that the series will not necessarily be a carbon copy of his book; in fact, he wants to mess with book readers. I wanted to make the people who loved the book really happy, but I also wanted to f with their heads,” Gaiman said. I wanted to make sure that even if you’d read the book and you know how plot A, B, and C are going to turn out, you do not know. There’s plot D that you don’t know about, and it’s going to become very important, and you cannot take anything for granted.”(Photo by Amazon)Gaiman’s story of angels and demons has a unique look worthy of Gaiman’s words. You can probably spot the references and homages to other artists, all adding up to something new. The more obvious ones are Monty Python, director and EP Mackinnon said. Good Omens has got its own style. The tone is it has no tone. We want to make it look epic and glorious and wonderful and warm. There are homages to Doctor Who, Terry Gilliam. Even the opening titles will mix and match fantasy artists, said Gaiman. Our opening title sequence manages to somehow evoke both Terry Gilliam, Edward Gorey, and Hieronymus Bosch. [We] somehow do that while being an animated 90-second opening sequence. Part of the weirdest thing about Good Omens is its style is no style. It’s whatever we needed to make that scene or sequence work, we do. Because the book includes so many things and does so many different kinds of things, we felt we were allowed to do that.”Will Peter Jackson Be Involved in Amazon s Lord of the Rings Series?“I wisely started with a map” — J.R.R. Tolkien The Lord of the Rings on Prime (@LOTRonPrime) February 13, 2019Amazon previously announced its plans for an epic Lord of the Rings TV series, a five-season show about the adventures of Young Aragorn, but there s still no word on whether LOTR big-screen master Peter Jackson will be involved in the show. They do know one thing: he s not mad about it.“There hasn’t been any negativity around it,” Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke said. “We just don’t have any news on that yet and what his involvement may be.”The series is moving along, however, with writers on board and now some social handles. It might not have actually started filming yet, but if you can t wait for its eventual premiere you can follow it on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram (where hopefully Amazon will release some news very soon).Joe and Anthony Russo to Direct English Version of Giant International EffortAmazon also released a bit more info on Joe and Anthony Russo s sprawling, international project: The brothers will produce and direct a flagship English-language series, but Amazon will produce spin-offs in other countries in their own language. The first two will come from India and Italy.“Those shows will be under the umbrella of the Russos and creative team but have their own local team of creators and writers executing those shows,” Salke said. “We just think that soon there’s a world that these hit shows can come from anywhere. They can break through and come from countries where English is not the language.”Help Wanted: Homecoming Season 2 Looking for Julia Roberts–Sized StarNow that Homecoming season 2 is a go — and star Julia Roberts has said she will not return — the hunt is on for a star as A-list as Roberts was in season 1.“There’s an opportunity for a star role in it, and there’s a list that’s being discussed with producers about what the strategy is moving forward on that,” Salke said. Roberts will stay on board as a producer, however. The Expanse Fans, Rejoice! Season 4 Arrives This YearFinally, the fourth season of fan-favorite space series The Expanse, which Amazon rescued from Syfy, should hit Amazon later this year.“We are working toward having that new season before the end of the year,” said Vernon Sanders, co-head of TV for Amazon. “We’ll have a specific date in the future but we’re aiming for that show to come out before 2019 is over. “How The Boys Will Handle Its NSFW MomentsAmazon Prime Video s new superhero series, The Boys, doesn t actually follow the superheroes that exist in its world — it follows a group of vigilantes out for justice for the damage the arrogant superheroes cause. It s definitely not a series for kids — as evidenced by the fact that R-rated producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who are also behind AMC s Preacher) are on board.Showrunner Eric Kripke admitted that his source material is definitely controversial. The comic book is incendiary in its material. There s a ton of really shocking s . Frankly, there s a lot of stuff in the comic that, if I m being honest, we would not do in the show. But it s a really irreverent, really edgy show, he told reporters at TCA.But from the beginning, he and his fellow executive producers wanted to make sure the show was more of a character study than anything else. You have to take the world very, very seriously, and you have to have fleshed-out people that have hearts, he said. We have to tell stories about really what it is to be human, and [we knew] that if we took it very, very seriously then the irreverence wouldn t be for shock value it would be to further the character. And so for us it was always, like, if something in the comic doesn t further a character we cut it. But if there was something in the comic or an idea we had that was crazy, but it told us a new aspect of who that character was and did it with integrity, then yeah. Preacher s a crazy show, and we want to be a boundary-pushing show too, but we want to do it the right way. How Transparent Season 5 Became a Movie-Musical(Photo by Amazon)Why transform Transparent’s final season into a musical movie instead of a serialized TV series? Well, that s originally how creator Jill Soloway envisioned their show. Soloway and her sister thought they d make a documentary musical about their parent s transition, and Soloway s sister was already busy writing songs for a potential future stage musical, so after star Jeffrey Tambor s departure, they decided to pivot.“When everything went down last year, and we lost Jeffrey Tambor, we went through so much as a family that felt like this very emotional, there are no words,” Soloway said. “There is no way to just go back to a plain old season 5 and just repair by going back.”Amazon Prime Video boss Salke said she was on board with Soloway s idea because she trusted the creator s instinct and wanted to make sure there was closure for fans. I think for us, we would never have wanted to take a special incredible show like that and just end it unceremoniously, Salke said. It was Jill’s idea to do a musical movie. We signed off on that idea trusting her that she would come up with something incredible, which she did. [The execs] sat in the front row of a musical run-through of this movie where we were crying.
