亚博足球APP下载采用百度引擎2(Baidu 1)So it wasn’t even close. The legend of John Wick only grew this weekend when it took the presumption of a tight battle for the top spot and turned it into a franchise growth that Lionsgate can be proud of. The Endgame crowd delivered a bit less than expected this weekend but with Wick’s foot firmly on the pedal this weekend, the Avengers never had a chance. King of the Crop: John Wick Unleashed With Million Debut(Photo by Summit Entertainment)Since 2016, Lionsgate has only had two films open over million (one of them being John Wick: Chapter Two) and another five open over million. They also have not had a 0 million grosser since Wonder in 2017 and only had one movie (Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral) gross a total higher than what John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum made this weekend: million and another million internationally. Not bad for a film series with humble beginnings whose original film grossed all of million domestic. JW3 is the second-highest 3-day opening of Keanu Reeves’ career. While The Matrix Reloaded is the highest with .7 million, the third chapter of that notable series (The Matrix Revolutions) opened on Wednesday and had .8 million in its first three days and a first weekend of .4 million. This is a success story all around for the actor, the studio and the filmmakers.Rotten Returns: The Sun Sets On WB As Star Joins Weakest Wide Openings(Photo by Warner Bros. / courtesy Everett Collection)There is no other way to describe The Sun Is Also A Star’s numbers this week than rotten. Warner Bros. did not seem to do much for the film marketing-wise and only got the film released in 2,073 theaters. That is the lowest wide launch for the studio since 2012’s Cloud Atlas opened in 2,008 theaters. The .6 million estimate for Sun ranks down there with Almost Heroes (.83 million), Lucky You (.71), Grind (.51), The Adventures of Pluto Nash (.18), Major League: Back to the Minors (.08) and the Zac Efron DJ film, We Are Your Friends (.76) for WB lows on films opening in over 2,000 theaters. The Top Ten And Beyond: Endgame Still Eyeing The All-Time Record(Photo by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / © Marvel Studios / courtesy Everett Collection)So where is Avengers: Endgame after four weeks? At 0 million it is now officially the second-highest grossing film of all-time both domestically. Worldwide, it sits at .61 billion still chasing down Avatar’s .78 billion with just 3 million to go. However it has fallen off of The Force Awakens’ pace by million and all of a sudden falling back to just the 11th best fourth weekend of all-time, it is pretty guaranteed at this point that J.J. Abrams’ film will remain the all-time domestic champion.Pokemon Detective Pikachu finds itself on similar ground with Hotel Transylvania 3 which had .7 million after its second weekend of wide release. Adam Sandler’s animated sequel made .7 million that weekend while the Pikachu made .8 million and stands at million. That suggests the 0 million production is headed somewhere around 7 million domestic. It has made 6 million worldwide to date. The rest of the Top Ten is a sad place. Not just with dogs dying over and over in A Dog’s Journey, but the numbers for the sequel are just not up to Universal’s expectations. They had a surprise little hit with A Dog’s Purpose which opened to .2 million in January 2017 and finished with .5 million domestic and 5 million worldwide. Journey opened to just million and is going to have to stretch hard to reach million. Maybe even million. And it just gets more depressing from there. Any movie making more than the Certified Fresh bomb Long Shot on this list has been critically reviled, like STX’s double failure of UglyDolls (.2 million/30%) and Poms ( million/32%). And for the third straight week The Intruder ( million/29%) managed to beat the Charlize Theron/Seth Rogen comedy. Looks as if The Hustle (.1 million/15%) is going to outgross it too. This Time Last Year: Deadpool Continued The Summer Superhero Dominance(Photo by 20th Century Fox Film Corp. All rights reserved./courtesy Everett Collection)Audiences substituted one group of superheroes for another when Deadpool 2 took over the top spot from the Avengers with a 5.5 million start. Avengers: Infinity War fell to second place and was just short of 0 million. Book Club started much better than Poms did last week, opening in third with .5 million. Finally, the controversial family film, Show Dogs, opened to just million and was later edited to remove its offensive take on consent. The Top Ten films grossed an impressive 0.4 million but they averaged a dismal 50.4% on the Tomatometer. This year’s Top Ten grossed an estimated 1.8 million and averaged 53.4%.On the Vine: Disney Tries To Avoid Another Dumbo Will Booksmart’s Critical Support Be Enough?(Photo by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection)Disney hopes to avoid another Memorial Day disappointment with their second live-action remake of 2019 with Aladdin. Can Will Smith replace the memory of Robin Williams or will the film go the way of Dumbo? Meanwhile, James Gunn is producing the bizarro Superman tale, Brightburn, a horror film about an intergalactic child using his powers for evil. Finally there is Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut, Booksmart, which drew raves at SXSW this year (still a perfect 100% on the Tomatometer). But can the already struggling United Artists Releasing partnership between Annapurna, MGM and Orion successfully get the word out or will this be doomed to discovery after it leaves theaters? The Full Top 10: May 17-19John Wick: Chapter 3 -- Parabellum (2019) 89% – .02 million (.02 million total)Avengers: Endgame (2019) 94% – .41 million (0.80 million total)Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) 68% – .81 million (.00 million total)A Dog's Journey (2019) 51% – .00 million (.00 million total)The Hustle (2019) 14% – .08 million (.14 million total)The Intruder (2019) 33% – .02 million (.05 million total)Long Shot (2019) 81% – .40 million (.7 million total)The Sun Is Also a Star (2019) 52% – .60 million (.60 million total)Poms (2019) 36% – .09 million (.01 million total)UglyDolls (2019) 28% – .60 million (.24 million total)

Or, is it better if three different directors each tackle different films in a trilogy? With the wildly successful John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum marking the third Certified Fresh John Wick collaboration between director Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves (with a fourth on the way!), we decided to do a Tomatometer deep dive into theatrically released trilogies helmed by single directors. We wanted to know how the Tomatometer scores and domestic box office numbers for trilogies like Francis Ford Coppola s The Godfather, Jay Roach’s Austin Powers, and The Wachowskis’ Matrix films compare to trilogies directed by two or three separate directors. Is consistency actually key? After comparing the Tomatometer and box office data of 83 different trilogies we learned that when one person (or a duo like the Wachowskis) directs all three films, their trilogies make more money on average and have much higher Tomatometer averages than the trilogies in which two or three different people direct the entries. There are exceptions to the rule, of course, but the numbers favor The Dark Knight, Spider-Man, and Back to the Future trilogies, which were lucky enough to have Christopher Nolan, Sam Raimi, and Robert Zemeckis see them all the way through. If you’re interested in reading about the trilogy selection process, and seeing the list of selected franchises, you can check them out below. Also, we know Stahelski co-directed John Wick with David Leitch, but Stahelski stayed around to helm the second and third installments when Leitch moved on to direct Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2; since he has been on the project the entire time, we’re considering him to be “one” director. Here is the data – and the trends we found. The Fewer the Names, the better the trilogy (Photo by © New Line/courtesy Everett Collection)Average Tomatometer for trilogies directed by one person: 68%Average Tomatometer for trilogies directed by two directors: 54%Average Tomatometer for trilogies directed by three directors: 49%Based on the Tomatometer averages, it’s clear that having one person (or team) direct a trilogy is the way to go for Freshness. The 68% Tomatometer average for trilogies with a single director or directing team isn’t super Fresh, but it’s well ahead of the 54% and 49% averages of the trilogies with multiple directors. The Fresh average can be attributed to exceptional franchises such as Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy (97.6% average Tomatometer score), How to Train Your Dragon (94.6%), and The Lord of the Rings (93%), trilogies that received multiple Academy Awards and include no films with Tomatometer scores lower than 91%. Another factor that sets the single director category apart is that 22 of the 34 total trilogies in this category (64.7%) are Fresh, whereas only 14 (56%) and six (24%) of the trilogies in the other two categories have Fresh scores. All Trilogies Drop Off In Quality, But A Single Director Will Help you Stay (Just) Fresh In the End.(Photo by © Sony Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection)Tomatometer averages of the first, second, and third films in trilogies directed by one person or team: 75.5%, 68%, 60.8%Tomatometer averages of the first, second, and third films in trilogies directed by two people: 71%, 47%, 45%Tomatometer averages of the first, second, and third films in trilogies directed by three people: 71.4%, 46.3%, 35.5%The first, second, and third films in trilogies directed by one person or team all have Fresh Tomatometer averages (75.5%, 68%, 60.8%), and the 7.5% Tomatometer drop-off between the first and second film is pretty solid when compared to the 24% and 25.1% drops when it comes to trilogies with two and three directors, respectively. The sequels that contributed to the Fresh Tomatometer averages throughout the series are classics like John Wick: Chapter 2 (89%), Evil Dead 2 (98%), Spider-Man 2 (93%), Before Midnight (98%), The Dark Knight (94%), The Trip to Spain (82%), and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (93%). The coolest (or nerdiest) fact here is how similar the Tomatometer averages for the trilogies directed by two or three people are until their third films (45% compared with 35.5%). The Tomatometer dropoff for trilogies with three directors was caused by soul-crushers such as Robocop 3 (3%), The Bad News Bears Go to Japan (0%), and Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (11%).More Directors Equals Less Money (Most of the Time)(Photo by © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)Trilogies directed by one person or team: 2 million domestic box office average (adjusted for inflation)Trilogies directed by two people: 1 million domestic box office averageTrilogies directed by three people: 1 million domestic box office averageThe 2 million total domestic average for trilogies directed by a single person would make any studio executive happy — and probably get them ordering another trilogy ASAP. It helps that eight of the 36 (22.8%) series with a single director or directing team, including the Star Wars prequels and The Hobbit trilogy, made over billion domestically after adjusting for inflation. The 1 and 1 million box office averages for the other groups of trilogies are very respectable. However, only six of the 58 trilogies (10.3%) in the other two categories made over billion domestically; these multi-director trilogies include Iron Man, Beverly Hills Cop, and the original Star Wars trilogy. The newest Star Wars trilogy will likely join their ranks.Domestic box office averages (adjusted for inflation) of the first, second, and third films in trilogies directed by one person or team: 1 million, 6 million, 0 millionDomestic box office averages of the first, second, and third films in trilogies directed by two people or teams: 8 million, 6 million, 5 millionDomestic box office averages of the first, second, and third films in trilogies directed by three people or teams: 8 million, 7 million, millionThe standout trend here is that the box office averages for the movies directed by one person or team all stayed above 0 million – the majority of the first film’s audience kept coming back for more. Trilogies directed by one person also had the smallest box office drop between each film; the million (30%) box office drop from the first to third film is smaller than the 5 (45%) and 6 (60%) million drops for trilogies with two directors and three directors, respectfully.ARE THERE EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE? (Photo by Quantrell D. Colbert/Universal Pictures)Of course, when it comes to Tomatometer ratings, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has proven with their Iron Man (two directors), Thor (three directors), and Captain America (one single director and a directing team) trilogies that it sometimes doesn’t matter how many directors helm the movies. Also, the Pitch Perfect, Hannibal, Star Trek (2009-2016), Meet the Parents, X-Men, Beverly Hills Cop, and Wolverine trilogies pulled in huge amounts of money and had multiple directors. So, trilogies can absolutely work with multiple directors. HOW DID WE PICK THE TRILOGIES?(Photo by Lionsgate)Since John Wick tells the continuing story of Keanu Reeves s titular assassin killing hundreds of henchmen on his quest for revenge, we stuck with trilogies that told a continuous story featuring the same character(s) or plot lines throughout three films. Examples are Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy, and Todd Phillips  Hangover trilogy, which saw the exploits of the same characters to a conclusion. We didn’t include trilogies with loose-connections (Noriko Trilogy), similar themes (Three Colors), or actors (Cornetto Trilogy) tying them all together. Also, you may notice that some of the trilogies we included such as the Pirates of the Caribbean, Jason Bourne, Jurassic Park, and Scream franchises went on to have more than three films. We included them because they had three-film narrative arcs that were completed with the third installment (e.g., Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). Some of these films had fourth (or fifth or sixth installments), but most of these later installments were meant to be part of a new trilogy (e.g. Jurassic World and Scream 4, which was supposed to be the beginning of a new trilogy). If a trilogy did not have complete Tomatometer scores they weren’t included. That’s why you won’t see the Infernal Affairs or Samurai trilogies below. The trilogies also needed to have been released in theaters. We didn’t include series that completed their trilogies with direct-to-DVD releases .Number of Trilogies directed by three people/teams 25: Alien (1979-1992), The Bad News Bears, Beverly Hills Cop, Blade, Blair Witch, Child’s Play (1988-1991), Crocodile Dundee, The Expendables, Free Willy, Friday, Hannibal, Harold Kumar, In the Heat of the Night, Johnny English, The Mighty Ducks, Oh God!, Omen, Pitch Perfect, The Ring, Robocop, Rugrats, Star Wars (1977-1983), Thor, Transporter, xXxNumber of Trilogies directed by two people 24: 50 Shades of Grey, Bridget Jones Diary, Captain America, Cars, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, Divergent, Iron Man, Jason Bourne (2002-2007), Jurassic Park (1993-2001), Kung Fu Panda, Look Who’s Talking, Major League, Meet the Parents, The Mummy, Naked Gun, Poltergeist, Porky s, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Santa Clause, Smokey and the Bandit, Star Trek, Taken, Wolverine (2009-2017), X-Men (2000-2006)Number of Trilogies directed by one person 34: Austin Powers, Back to the Future, Before Trilogy, Da Vinci Code, The Dark Knight, Despicable Me, Evil Dead, The Godfather, Hangover, The Hobbit, Hotel Transylvania, How to Train Your Dragon, Indiana Jones (1981-1989), Jackass, John Wick, The Lord of the Rings, Madagascar, Mad Max (1979-1985), Matrix, Maze Runner, Men in Black, The Mexico Trilogy, Night at the Museum, Ocean’s Trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean (2003-2007), Purge, Riddick, Rush Hour, Scream (1996-2000), Spider-Man, Star Wars Prequels, The Trip, UnbreakableNote: All Tomatometer data is accurate as of May 29, 2019Like this? 4.96.4 7月喜迎(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)Critics and fans alike are loving Avengers: Endgame. The movie is Certified Fresh at 95% and made a cool .2 billion at the global box office in its first weekend. It could very well turn out to be the biggest movie ever – and one of the most beloved. The key to its success? Critics say it s all about giving the MCU s loyal fans what they want. Eric Eisenberg of Cinema Blend was typical in his assessment, calling Endgame,  A wonderful gift to all those who have spent the last decade-plus emotionally engaging with the lives and adventures of these characters.” It s stacked with f k yeah moments and delights, the best of which make callbacks to early films in the franchise. And one of those movies is more important than any other. So, hear us out: Endgame owes much of its success to that under-sung hero of the MCU, Avengers: Age of Ultron. While one of the least popular entries in the MCU, and the lowest-rated Avengers flick on the Tomatometer at 75% (which is still not bad!), Ultron deserves credit as the foundation on which the entire second half of the MCU was built. And we re about to make a spoiler-filled case as to why, breaking down the story beats and relationships that Ultron established and that Endgame would use to such great effect – so be warned if you ve not seen Endgame, Ultron, or both.Major spoilers for Avengers: Endgame follow. Hulk Taking Control of Both Sides? It Started With Ultron.(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)Around the time of Age of Ultron, there was still hope at Marvel that they would be able to make a deal for the Hulk and start a string of Hulk-only movies. Universal still owned the rights to the character for all standalone films, but behind the scenes, there were talks. When it became clear that a deal was not going to be forthcoming, Marvel spread the planned events for a standalone Hulk film throughout Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, and the Infinity War two-parter. That’s right, the seeds of the fantastic Hipster Hulk payoff in Endgame were first sewn in Ultron. Think back to the Hulk/Banner in Ultron; he’s held back from the team at times to make sure he doesn’t do too much damage. Then, after a wave of the finger from Scarlet Witch, he wreaks havoc. Throughout Ultron, Banner is always questioning whether the team needs a ‘code green.’ He knows the Hulk s a powerful weapon, but he s terrified that he s not in control. By Endgame, we ve finally seen the complete character arc from this struggle in Ultron, to the Hulk completely taking over in Thor: Ragnarok, to Banner s inability to summon the green guy in Avengers: Infinity War, to the eventual blend of the Hulk s might and Bruce s mind in the new movie. (The latest incarnation is a play on a storyline that first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #377, in which Banner finally has control of both the monster and his mind – adding hipster glasses with a huge cardigan is just a lovely bonus.)The Start of a Beautiful and Pivotal Relationship: Wanda and Vision, a.k.a. WandaVision.(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)The WandaVision relationship, as well as their powers, would become crucial to the MCU and especially to the Infinity Saga. It is also central to two of the saga s biggest moments: it s Vision s death in Infinity War that breaks our hearts, and it s Wanda s moment of revenge and power in Endgame that gives us such great feels. And that all started with Ultron. From her first encounter with Vision in Age of Ultron, Wanda is drawn to his mind; even when we still didn t know if he was good or evil, her first words about him were, “I can read him… his mind. Ultron introduces Wanda and her brother to his creation in the final stages of completion and even before his birth, Vision s mind called out to her. Talk about a meet-cute.When we finally learn Thanos master plan to gather all the Infinity Stones, we realize quickly that Vision will be in danger. The Mind Stone is the origin of his powers – it s literally fused to his head using whatever tech stuff Shuri was talking about in Infinity War. That connection sets up what might be the Infinity Saga s ultimate and most painful sacrifice: Killing Vision in Infinity War as a last-ditch effort to thwart Thanos turns out to be a pointless and heartbreaking effort – with a twist of the Infinity Gauntlet, it is all undone. We watched them fall in love, beginning in Ultron, and witnessed their tragic end in Infinity War. When she appears in Endgame, summoning her powers in fury, it s a completely satisfying bookend to everything Ultron began.Who is worthy? THE PERFECT SETUP FOR CAP S BIG HAMMER MOMENT.In one of the best scenes in Age of Ultron, the Avengers pal around with a few drinks at an afterparty. What is played as an entertaining comedic break, with the various members trying to lift Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir, actually sets up one of the biggest moments of Endgame. Iron Man, War Machine, Hawkeye, and – comically – Bruce Banner all try to lift the hammer and prove themselves worthy. None are successful, but for one brief moment, Captain America tugs at Mjölnir, and it quivers. The movement wipes a confident smirk off Thor’s face and signals that maybe Steve Rogers could one day wield the hammer. So it’s no surprise in the finale of Endgame to see who is lifting Mjölnir. Thor even exclaims, “I knew it!” (It s actually another direct pull from the comics: Captain America is one of the few worthy enough to wield the hammer forged in the heart of a dying star – we re still getting goosebumps just thinking about it.)Clint Barton, Hawkeye, and the farm.According to Ultron director Joss Whedon, there were several creative differences between him and Marvel Studios during the filming of Age of Ultron, none more contentious than the debate over the trip to the farm to meet Clint’s family. Marvel brass were apparently not into giving Hawkeye a familial backstory – having seen Endgame, we re thankful they lost on that one. The broken, singularly focused, vigilante Ronin that Hawkeye becomes in Endgame doesn t have the same resonance if we haven t spent time with his family. (And what about that opening scene?!) The device of the farm is also used to further establish the closeness between Natasha and Hawkeye, as in Ultron we learn that she is the only one with prior knowledge of the farm and his family life. These quiet moments raise the emotional stakes of the fight we see between Clint and Natasha in Endgame, as they do battle over who will sacrifice themselves for the Soul Stone. Without the Ultron setup, those stakes would not be so high.Tony vs. Cap: A Civil War begins.Civil War may have been the first battle between the Avengers, but some early, quiet shots were fired in Ultron. The argument on the farm during which Steve scolds Tony for creating, and especially for not telling him about, Ultron, is one many will point back to as the start of their fracturing. Then there is the physical fight between Captain America and Iron Man that happens later in Ultron, while Tony tries to finish his Vision . Steve and Tony come to blows about it just before Thor harnesses lighting to finally birth Vision. The Russo brothers told us in our extended interview that the Avengers failed in Avengers: Infinity War because they were divided, and the cracks of that fatal divide first began to appear in Ultron. Even direct quotes from Age of Ultron reappear in Endgame with Tony repeating his warning, “We’ll lose – adding Steve’s reply of “We’ll lose together” is of little solace. That broken version of Tony, ripping his core from his chest, was perhaps even harder to watch than his heroic end.Tony, always trying to get ahead of things.(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)It starts and stops with Tony. The whole plot of Ultron comes from one driving force: Tony’s fear of the next thing from space trying to annihilate the earth. That up there, he quips, pointing to the sky and referencing the alien invasion of New York. That s the endgame. And it was, in every sense of the word. Thanos does come to destroy the earth, and that threat is what the Avengers were created to stop. Tony, in creating Ultron, was trying to win a war before it started; during the wood cutting argument, Steve astutely reminds him, “Every time someone tries to win a war before it starts, people die.” Before the events of Ultron, Tony created Veronica just in case they ever lost control of The Hulk (or a lullaby didn’t work). The Hulkbuster back-up plan kind of worked. That drive to plan ahead, to be prepared, may have been a fatal flaw with Ultron, but it also allowed Tony to outsmart Thanos in Endgame. The glove Tony installs on his suit to steal the infinity stones is just that type of planning. He was reluctant to join the second fight and the visions of defeat he saw in Ultron still haunt him, but he was, in the end, able to use that fear to defeat their most formidable foe. It s a complete bookend to the character and his essential motivation.(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)And there are so many smaller Ultron setups:Ragnarok: Heimdall first teases Ragnarok and the fact they will lose in Thor’s vision before he later heads to a cave to get more answers. Thor sees the Infinity Stones and the gauntlet for the first time. More breadcrumbs to our final battle.Avengers Assemble: The “Avengers Assemble” line that Captain America calls out in the final battle was first teased in Ultron. A near synonymous tag line for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, it is a line comic book fans have been waiting to hear. We cut to credits before Cap could call it out in Ultron, but we finally get it in Endgame.Wakanda: In a quick scene with Ulysses Klaw, we first hear reference what would turn out to be the key destination in the highest-grossing superhero movie ever – before Endgame. Vibranium, Andy Serkis with a Wakandan tattoo, and the rest is history.(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)Captain America Back With Carter: We’d have to guess it’s not a coincidence that Wanda’s visions sent Captain America back to Agent Carter and the 1940s. Throughout the series, his greatest regret is not being able to share a life with her, thus making his ending as an old man who stole time to get a life all the sweeter. Fine, I ll do it myself : We meet a winking and silent Thanos in The Avengers, and we first spy the Infinity Gauntlet in Thor’s Scarlet Witch vision. But it s not until Ultron s mid-credits stinger that we see our big baddie in full armor – voiced by Josh Brolin – snatching the gauntlet and saying, “Fine, I’ll do it myself.”(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)The Avengers Facility: A small but noteworthy moment. The Avengers get a new home. The Avengers compound is basecamp going forward.
This week in TV news saw some major changes for HBO talent, an update to your Netflix subscription, live-action Cowboy Bebop casting, and plenty more developments.TOP STORYWestworld Bosses Find New Home(Photo by John P. Johnson/HBO)Westworld creators Jonah Nolan and Lisa Joy have just signed a reported nine-figure, four-year deal with Amazon to create new content for the company s TV studio and streaming service. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo will be making upwards of million per year at their new home. But what does that mean for Westworld, which is currently in production on its third season? The short answer is nothing; the third season of the series is still likely going to air on HBO in 2020, and Joy and Nolan are running the show. The long answer, though, is slightly more involved. Joy and Nolan had been working at Warner Bros. TV, which produces Westworld. And while they re moving their production company to Amazon, they re still planning to stay on board as writers and executive producers on Westworld for the life of the show, according to the report, which means nothing is changing day-to-day for season 3, and should the show be renewed for a fourth season, continuing to run their series is a top priority. Essentially, all their new work from now on will be done under the Amazon umbrella, but Westworld is staying put and they re staying involved. So breathe easy, it ll still be the complicated sci-fi drama you know and love.Netflix Raises Prices(Photo by Netflix)Netflix is raising its prices again: The streaming service’s biggest price increase to date will increase the two-HD stream Standard plan by per month to .99; Premium (four Ultra HD streams) is also increasing by to .99; and the Basic plan (one non-HD stream) will increase to .99. The new prices take effect for new subscribers immediately, and will be phased in gradually for existing customers based on their billing cycles.Cobra Kai Leads a Trailer BonanzaThere’s a LOT of good television on nowadays, and approximately a dozen TV series dropped trailers for their upcoming seasons this week. You can watch the full trailer for Cobra Kai season 2 above, out April 24. Season 2 brings fans back into the action with Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) after the shocking Season 1 cliffhanger featuring the return of John Kreese (Martin Kove). When a new rivalry between opposing dojos is born in the aftermath of Cobra Kai’s controversial win at the All Valley Championships, Daniel realizes his next countermove is to open his own karate training school called Miyagi-Do, in honor of his mentor Mr. Miyagi. What was once a personal feud between Daniel and Johnny escalates beyond their differences to engulf their students, who as teenagers, are already challenged to figure out who they are and who they want to be. Which path will they follow — Cobra Kai or Miyagi-Do?If that s not what you re after, you can follow the links for a teaser for the third season of TNT’s Claws (out June 9), a trailer for the second season of Paramount Network’s Yellowstone (June 19), one for the sixth season of The CW’s The 100 (out April 30), and ones for new series including Netflix’s dark comedy Dead to Me (out May 3), AMC’s horror adaptation NOS4A2 (out June 2), and Epix’s Batman butler prequel series Pennyworth (out this summer). You can also watch the entire first episode of The Chi season 2 ahead of the show s official April 7 debut.Cowboy Bebop Returns(Photo by Emma McIntyre/Getty Images)Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop is finally coming together. The 10-episode series will star John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, Daniella Pineda, and Alex Hassell as a crew of bounty hunters searching for the solar system’s most dangerous criminals and is based on the jazz-inspired Japanese anime series from 2001. Cho will play Spike Spiegel, “an impossibly cool ‘cowboy’ (bounty hunter) with a deadly smile, a wry wit, and style to spare. He travels the solar system with his ex-cop partner, Jet, pursuing the future’s most dangerous bounties with a combination of charm, charisma — and deadly Jeet Kune Do.” Shakir is Jet Black, “was one of the few honest cops in the solar system before an ultimate betrayal robbed him of all that he loved, forcing him into a vagabond life of hunting bounties to put food on the table. Jet is an inveterate jazz enthusiast and Captain of the Bebop.” Pineda is Faye Valentine, “a bold, brash and unpredictable bounty hunter. Suffering from amnesia after years of being cryogenically frozen, Faye does whatever it takes to survive. Whether she’s lying, stealing, or just being a thorn in Spike and Jet’s side.” And Hassell is Vicious, “a man who thoroughly enjoys a good kill, Vicious is the Syndicate’s most notorious hitman. He’s also Spike Spiegel’s ex-partner and arch-enemy.” Radical Ed has not yet been cast.Darren Star’s New Leading Lady and More Casting News(Photo by JA/Everett Collection)Lily Collins will star in the newest series from Sex and the City and Younger creator Darren Star, a dramedy called Emily in Paris. The new series is set to premiere on Paramount Network in 2020, and will follow the adventures of the titular character (Collins), a driven twentysomething from the Midwest who moves to France for an unexpected job opportunity. The series will tackle her career, friendships, love life, and the challenges of living in a foreign city, and begins filming later in 2019.Hulu’s horror series Light as a Feather has added Robyn Lively (Teen Witch), Katelyn Nacon (The Walking Dead), and several other new cast members for its upcoming second season.Amazon and the Jim Henson Co. Team Up(Photo by Hulton Archive / Getty Images)More than 2,500 hours of programming from the Jim Henson Company is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. While it’s mostly available in 67 different territories around the world, much of the content is not accessible to U.S. users due to existing licensing deals. The content available only to lucky viewers outside of the U.S. includes The Storyteller, The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, Mother Goose Stories, and all five seasons of Fraggle Rock. (U.S. viewers can watch Fraggle Rock on HBO.)Development NewsShowtime has ordered a new spy thriller anthology series from The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty writer Mark Boal. Intelligence is based on real stories from around the world and will explore how espionage intersects with politics, finance, media, and silicon valley. Season 1, which is currently being written, will focus on the behind-the-scenes history leading up to the 2016 U.S. election. Subsequent seasons will look at a different major world event through the lens of covert operations.

Part of Lucifer and Chloe’s new mystery involves Briana Hildebrand’s Rory, a new character for the final run. Her true nature is teased in the trailers and is something for the viewer to discover themselves, but German offered a few insights into her place within Lucifer.“It s almost like her problems with Lucifer are its own character and asking him to be accountable,” she said. “She wants explanations and she wants answers. [Briana] came in and just blew us all away with how talented she is, and her character gives an opportunity to see Lucifer in a whole new light. The fans and the audience have not seen him remotely anywhere around this sort of arena that he s in with her in this season.”And though it may seems as though the character will bring the thunder, Ellis teased a “good day in the park” with the character.Beyond Rory providing a new dimension to the series, characters like Ella, Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt), Amenadiel (DB Woodside), and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) carry on. Although, some of their stories may offer surprising resolutions for the audience. Henderson teased that Ella’s was particularly important to get right because, he said, “Ella is us.”The Ultimate Divergence Between The Show And The Comic Book(Photo by Netflix)The series is based on the comic book by writer Mike Carey and artists Peter Gross and Dean Ormston – itself based on ideas initially outlined in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman – but the program quickly struck out on its own path while keeping a handful of characters like Amenadiel and Mazikeen. Now in its full form the divergences will create a startling different experience for those well versed in the comic, particularly considering the end state of Lucifer in the comic book. Nevertheless, Henderson believes both tell stories which are, ultimately, very true to Lucifer as a character as he never stops being concerned with freedom of choice and “freedom of who you are.”“Also, just the idea of creating your own destiny and the limitations on that, but also the internal struggle to break free of those bonds [is key],” he said. “What s fun is to find our own angle on it through our completely different world and set up that hopefully, in the end, is complementary to what Mike did.”The Legacy of Lucifer(Photo by John P. Fleenor/Netflix)Now that the series is a complete whole, all involved hope the program’s struggle to stay alive — and the fan support when it was first canceled — will always be part of its legacy. Indeed, the original Star Trek, Wynonna Earp, The Expanse, and Manifest are members of that rarified group of shows willed back into existence by its fans.“I really hope that people remember that side of it, because that doesn t happen a lot,” Ellis said.German added, “It really was the fans that saved our show and that s a huge part of our [story]. The fans are just as important as the show.” She hopes Lucifer does not “outlive that part,” but embeds itself as an aspect of the show s history, as is the case with Star Trek and Wynonna Earp.“I love that so much of our story is being the little devil that could,”Modrovich said.“The show was underestimated and then the fans spoke up and fought on our behalf. I remember like it was yesterday when we were canceled, and the fans tweeted a million tweets in 24 hours, and I was like, ‘Oh, what a nice goodbye,’” Henderson recalled. Then Netflix swooped in and help the series arrived at this finish line. “I love that as our mythology because, to me, the show will only continue because of that moment, because of our fans. That s rewarding, he said.“In the words of Dr. Linda, We fell, but we also rose, ” Modrovich added. “It just made it that much sweeter. We were able to enjoy being [back] … it s sort of like when you re faced with a moment of near-death experience, you appreciate life that much more. We did for those three seasons.”Ellis offered one more thought on the show s legacy: “I d also hope that people can reflect on that one day and go, ‘Of course that s unique and it s about positivity and people coming together, pushing in one direction, and what that can actually achieve.’”The Next Lucifer(Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images)Although Ellis, German, and the producers have finished their journey with Lucifer Morningstar, the character already has plans to return to Netflix in the near future as part of the long-in-the-works TV adaptation of The Sandman. Played in the upcoming series by Gwendoline Christie at a point before Lucifer quit Hell, fans will see the character in a new way. Lucifer also recurred in The Sandman comics and, as it happens, his eventual decision to abdicate his domain plays a crucial part in one of the series most pivotal storylines. And as on Lucifer, he found a respite at a West Coast nightclub called Lux; of course, as we’ve already seen him retire to Los Angeles, it’s possible his next manifestation may choose a different place for his second act — or does it count as a fifth act? — but wherever he ends up, it just proves how tenacious the Devil can be.Lucifer season 6 is now streaming on Netflix. On an Apple device? Fan Favorite Movies 2019It d actually be weird if Endgame had not won this category. A 90% Audience Score? A .8 billion box office haul? The biggest movie of all-time? And yet, you voters let it lose to The Death of Dick Long?! But, no, that d be another timeline, maybe one where Thanos gets away with it, and half the shawarma in the universe is wiped from existence. This is our timeline, where Avengers are winners: They win at beating the bad guys, they win at making preposterous time-travel plots work like gangbusters, and they win at assuring audiences that the 21-movie buildup was worth the hype. There was never a movie event quite as massive as Avengers: Endgame, and there may never be again. Of course, audiences showed up to buy tickets to ensure it d be the biggest movie ever. But the ways people continue to support the movie – in debate, at conventions, and at polls like these long after the movie has closed, where the movie beat out Parasite by almost 1,000 votes – broadcast how a story that started with a guy in a cave with a box of scraps continues to resonate all over. The order below reflects the number of total votes cast for each TV show by users in a poll that ran on RT from January 9 to February 16.« Previous Category Next Category »

亚博足球APP下载 (Photo by New Line Cinema / courtesy Everett Collection)In 2019, Rotten Tomatoes turns 21, and to mark the occasion we’re celebrating with a series of features that look back at the brightest moments on screen of the past two decades – and one year – and the things that have us excited for the future.Jump scare! Are there two more reviled words in the modern horror genre? (Well, maybe human centipede. ) Built on slapping the volume around and throwing up some intrusive imagery, the jump scare s reputation as the ultimate low-effort, low-grade scare tactic hides an uglier truth. They re effective. Especially a well-placed one. You know the kind: The movie is creeping along, you re into the characters and story, when the lights begin to dimmer and the soundtrack drops out, as the camera hangs innocently for a touch too long, and then BAM you find yourself looking down at your seat, having leapt two feet into the air.Since Rotten Tomatoes inception in 1998, there s been no shortage of horror flicks and their endless bag of dirty, freaky tricks. (In fact, this April has been a big month, with Pet Sematary and The Curse of La Llorona!) We re celebrating turning 21 in a myriad of ways, and today it s all about the screams that have echoed over the last two decades, as we present the 21 best jump scares of the last 21 years!Concerned that we didn t have enough zombies on this list, or nothing from A Quiet Place (a.k.a. Jump Scare: The Motion Picture)? Tell us all about it in the comments!21. Unhinged kitchen from Paranormal Activity 2 (2010) 58%Up to this point, the Paranormal Activity movies reserved all their scares for night, allowing the daytime as a sanctuary to do a little character work and tension-relief as the demons slowly draw in. This scene demonstrates sunlight is no safety as your normal sit-down at the kitchen counter transforms into a loud cacophony of cabinets blowing open and clattering china. Though it s been done already to great effect in the likes of Poltergeist and The Sixth sense, the second Paranormal Activity finds a new way to bring heat to the kitchen.20. Are you not the babysitter?  from The House of the Devil (2009) 85% Atmosphere is the first word that comes to mind with Ti West s horror films, and certainly too much is the phrase that comes next for the Ti West critic. Slow burns his films may be,  but West is also enough of a genre fanboy-disciple to know when to pepper in a big jump scare to jolt the audience. Enter The House of the Devil, his breakthrough film, which did the whole 80s nostalgia before Stranger Things was even, well, a thing. Greta Gerwig, still then but a mumblecore muse, plays the babysitter s best friend, characterized, as always, innocent and ill-fated. When she stops for a cigarette, a stranger shows up, identifying her as the babysitter. After some terse talk, the stranger realizes his mistake and makes a quick exit out of the conversation.19. The fake suicide from What Lies Beneath (2000) 47%The only thing more shocking than seeing Harrison Ford play a bad guy? (And we mean a bad guy, not like space rogue bad guy – also, whoops, SPOILER.) This moment, with Ford thinking he s just gotten away with murder again, when the ghosts of ill deeds past and a schnockered Michelle Pfiffer use the transdimensional force to scare the bejeezus out of Ford, sending him for a bloody bonk on the bathroom sink.18. The screaming reflection from The Woman in Black (2012) 66%Musty old mansion. Soft steps in darkness by candlelight. A British guy. Oh, yeah, we got a bona-fide, literary haunted house story here! Daniel Radcliffe takes a cautious look-see from an upper window into the yard, where a child emerges from a grave in the rain and trudges toward the house. And, OF COURSE, suddenly a screaming woman appears in the window reflection. It s a reminder why these stories still chill in the 21st century, and why we ll always be hooked on classics.17. The running girl from Annabelle (2014) 29%The Association s Cherish is the prelude to this prelude in the 1967-set story within The Conjuring franchise. After Annabelle No Relation To The Murder Doll Wallis stops the record player, a subtle shadow appears on the wall behind it, turning the music back on. As Wallis investigates, the rumble of the soundtrack slowly builds, sewing machines clatter, hallways feel longer than ever before, and a girl in a white dress materializes in the background. Suddenly, she s sprinting towards Wallis and suddenly the little girl doens t look so little anymore.16.  What s in the bag? from Audition (1999) 82%Though infamous for its penetrating torture scenes, Audition actually performs as a mystery-thriller for most of the runtime. It s this third act sequence that keys viewers in that things are about to go off the deep end. This sack is ominously one of the few items in the villain s apartment, and when what s inside leaps out, it s quite the shock: A starving man with feet, ear, and fingers missing. And you thought you ve had bad dates before.15. Sidney on set from Scream 3 (2000) 40%Scream 3 took a pretty epic Tomatometer tumble from the first films in the franchise – Scream is Certified Fresh at 79%, Scream 2 is Certified Fresh at 81%, while this movie is Rotten at 36%. And though the tone of the movie is even jokier than Wes Craven’s first two Ghostface outings, there are still some solid scares to be found here. Chief among them, this moment in which Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is on a movie-set recreation of her teenage home. Just as fans are thinking, “Hmmm, I think I’ve seen this before” – including the door-in-door block – Ghostface pops up in her bedroom window. Ah, just like old times.14. Jaws from The Orphanage (2007) 87%The Orphanage is a movie that s confident enough to know that it doesn t need jump scares: It s slow-mounting dread, central mystery and performances, and the deep wellspring of aromatic despair it draws from is more than enough. It s also a movie that knows, hey, why not give the people what they want? Thus, Orphanage s only major jump scare comes when Geraldine Chaplin is on the ground after a traumatic collision, jolting from beneath the cloth, lower jaw akimbo. The scene feels out of place in the movie, which only adds to its effectiveness, and it works because of how, er, tastefully done the shot is.13. Bus hit from Final Destination (2000) 35%The Final Destination series is more famous for its Rube Goldberg-like death sequences than its heart-racing shocks, but this one from the first film still has us looking left, right, and double checking before crossing the road. Is it as good as the infamous Meet Joe Black car-a-palooza that felled Brad Pitt? Maybe not. But we give Final Destination extra credit for maxing out on that special brand of heavy-handed late 1990s/early 2000s teen-slasher irony by having Terry tell her boyfriend to “drop f king dead” right before Fate sends a bus right through her.12. Shark attack from Deep Blue Sea (1999) 59%You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself get eaten by a mutated shark while trying to give a heroic speech. Such was the fate of one Samuel L. Jackson, who finds himself trapped in an undersea laboratory with other scientists, menaced by one their very own fishy, lethal experiments. Jackson had steadily built his reputation in the 90s as the King of Cool and, using his leading-man capital, dunked on audiences by allowing his character be killed in the most surprising, hilarious, and gratuitous way possible.11. Tongue cluck from Hereditary (2018) 89%One way to figure out the how a jump scare works is watching it with the sound off. By killing a key component (LOUD NOISES!), does it feel earned? Can it still spook? Watch Herediatry s big scare with the sound off and it ll seems like nothing is happening, which actually reveals how good the movie is getting at subverting seemingly normal tics, like clucking your tongue, into something demonic, and just how fortunate it is that it has Toni Collette s all-in performance.10. A face in the window from The Strangers (2008) 48%This atmospheric home invasion thriller is known for its quiet reveals more than its jump scares – figures appear slowly in backgrounds rather than bursting out of closets. But it does deliver one jolt for the ages, as Liv Tyler’s Kristen opens the curtain to discover the “Man in Mask” right there! The rest of the film’s relative quietness only adds to the moment’s effect.9. The lawnmower from Sinister (2012) 63%Film projectors: Something almost inherently unsettling about them, with their grainy footage and the repetitive clack-clack-clack of the spinning reels. Certainly they ve made their mark in horror history, involved in memorable scenes ranging from Peeping Tom to IT. Sinister added its own celluloid to the highlight reel, featuring Ethan Hawke as he investigates the doomed previous occupants of his new house. The search leads to a box of film (which something is insistent he watch, leading to its appearance everywhere around the house), whose content includes POV footage of a person looking down at a lawnmower, as its pushed over grass at night. The lawnmower strays in and out of the camera s light, putting the viewer s eye into a trance, before it suddenly become clear this yard was not cleared before this chore was undertaken.8. The nun attacks from The Conjuring 2 (2016) 80%How good was the nun scene in Conju 2: Valak Boogaloo? It only took four minutes to convince moviegoers, and the people who make movies, that this sister of the unholy cloth deserved her own spinoff. The buildup to the jump scare, with the nun charging at the camera, involves the standard figure-in-the-hallway and eyes-peering-from-shadow tropes remixed into a true nerve-rattler.7. Peek-a-boo from Insidious (2010) 66%A fine example of misdirection, the scene begins with Barbara Hershey describing a nightmare to her son and his family. The narration and the slow, drifting camera ratchets up the tension in an obvious way for the viewer – with the pay-off of a gangly, pointing figure embedded within the dream. Snapping back to the real world, Patrick Wilson s Josh, wearing a shirt the same grey-blue tone shirt of the bland marble painting behind him, sits unaware as the red-faced demon appears behind him, revealing that the movie s threat aren t just restricted to the somnambulist s realm.6. She s mad  from Mama (2013) 63%Two sisters are found alive in the woods five years after their father went on a post-2008 crash killing spree. They re taken in by their uncle and his wife, but something must ve kept the young kids alive all those years, and that something is now inside their home. The apparition Mama, who tilts back and forth like she s constantly under water, suddenly leaps forward to attack. The camera tracks the children as they run up the stairs and seek safety, with plenty of dark corners and walls to conceal edits as director Andy Muschietti (IT) aims to present this at first as a horrific, unbroken single take.5. 360 spin from Rec (2007) 89%A residential building is mysteriously under quarantine. A tenacious, lightly unscrupulous news reporter and her cameraman get into the building to find the reason: an outbreak of fast zombies. The claustrophobic setting of [rec] teems with jump-scare potential, and the movie certainly cashes in, with hordes of blank-eyed, frothing bitey runners around every corner. The best one comes when they ascend an attic in search for an escape route or outbreak source, lifting the camera up and pivoting the camera – slowly, of course – in a carousel of darkness before coming lens-to-face with a young zombie, who screeches and swats at the screen.. Never mind, we ll take our chances with the radon in the basement, thankyouverymuch.4. (Photo by Walt Disney Pictures)What are you most proud of in your career so far?I m one of the guest critics on a BBC radio show here called Mark Kermode s and Simon Mayo s Film Review. It s live radio. My whole life, I have suffered from pretty bad anxiety and stage fright. I, at one point, wanted to be an actor, and I think the fear really stopped me from pursuing that properly. And so, being able to do that and go on live radio and speak to many, many people at the same time is terrifying but satisfying beyond words. It has been such an amazing, surreal experience. I just feel very proud of myself that I m able to do that.I d imagine that, as a writer, you spend so much time delicately thinking over your words – to be live sounds terrifying.Yeah. You can t take it back, that s the thing. If you write something and you hate it, you delete it. Radio, you say something, you can t take it back. It s totally terrifying. What is the hardest review that you ve ever written – or, if it was on the radio, delivered live? The one I immediately thought of was just last year: I saw Cats and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – it was a double bill. My deadline for both of the reviews was the next morning. I really had to stay up all night writing about what, for me, were two incredibly surreal experiences.Cats, on a very obvious level – I feel like everyone had a very strange experience with that. But, also, I am a huge, huge Star Wars fan, and so, Rise of Skywalker was like three Christmases at the same time. But, then, the film didn t really do the things I was hoping it would do, so I was dealing with all the emotions of that. That was just a really strange night. What’s your favorite classic film?Wilder s The Apartment, because there’s something I love about just semi-optimistic endings – because that also has that feeling of everything could be terrible. You could be a loser and have nothing. You just feel like you ve got nothing going on. But, there s other people just like you, and maybe you ll find them, and together you can be a little bit less of a loser. I don t know why, but that, to me, is just like “yes.” That is how I want to see the world. That makes me feel great about everything.Do you have advice for critics who are still finding their voice?I think just try to be honest with yourself, because that s what I find so hard about this industry. This is the thing. You are on a weekly basis exposing yourself to the world – not exposing yourself, because that sounds really dodgy, but exposing your soul to the world every week. You have to be quite vulnerable to do that. It s scary, especially when it s a film that is about something very personal or something controversial, and you re really having to make your stand with it.It s so easy to feel trapped by that and to feel scared, that you don t want to be honest with yourself because you re worried that, “Oh, that s going to be different from how everyone else thinks. I m going to go against the status quo. I m going to stand out in a good way or a bad way.”Just have the courage to be like, This is my honest opinion. I stand by it. I am being true to myself. This is my voice. Stick by it. If people are being mean, just block them on Twitter, and find nice people who will support you.Is there someone in your life who isn t a critic, whose opinion on movies you really admire?I would say my best friend, because when I m having those anxieties about a review – and I think that my opinion might be terrible and stupid, and everyone will make fun of me – I go to my best friend. I will describe my opinion, and even if he hasn t seen the film, he s so good at listening and giving his take. We have quite similar taste in films, but in the ways that they vary, I find really interesting. We re always wanting to talk about that because we have quite similar personalities. But, it s like, why do we have such different tastes on a handful of specific movies? 伽马数据发布的《2020年10月移动游戏报告》预测,天涯明月刀的首月流水超过13亿元,在当月国内手游流水榜中仅次于王者荣耀、和平精英和原神,位居第四位。

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018) 53% In 2016, Disney released a live action/CGI hybrid remake of The Jungle Book, a musical adventure based on the Rudyard Kipling book of the same name, and it was a runaway success. Even before that film went into production, however, Warner Bros. had already begun development on their own adaptation of Kipling s book, with Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Naomie Harris lending their voices to the animal characters and Andy Serkis, who voices Mowgli s bear friend Baloo, at the helm as director. The end result is Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, a decidedly darker take on the source material that follows a young boy raised by wolves who must decide whether to remain in the jungle or return to civilization. The film opens in a handful of theaters this week, with an eventual release on Netflix next Friday, and according to critics, its move to the streaming platform may have been a strategic one by Warner Bros. While Serkis passion for the project is clear and the A-list cast is reliably effective, critics say Mowgli suffers from comparisons to the Disney film, both in the quality of its special effects and in the consistency of its tone, and the final product is a messy if ambitious misfire.

亚博足球APP下载 The Fallen: Posters Confirm Shuri Did Not Survive the SnapWith the posters featuring lost characters in black and white, Marvel introduces a new term for those lost moments after the Snap – the Fallen. It’s a handy term, if one often used in supernatural films and television shows to categorize those who went to war against Heaven. But within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it boils down a mouthful into one word. The Fallen include headliners like Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), supporting characters like Bucky (Sebastian Stan), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), the entire Pym/Van Dyne family, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). Additionally, all of the Guardians of the Galaxy except Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) were also lost in the Snap.(Photo by @ Marvel Studios, @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)The Fallen also includes three people featured on the new character posters who fell prior to Thanos s quick-fingered coup de grace: Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Vision (Paul Bettany), and Gamora (Zoe Saldana). The latter’s death was always significant as Thanos threw her off a cliff to get the Soul Stone – and presumably she will haunt him on his garden planet. Loki’s death, however, felt far from final as he cheats death all the time. Maybe he will be the first of the Fallen (heh) to return. And Vision? Well, he is going to be part of that Disney+ limited series with Scarlet Witch, so his resurrection also seems assured. The list of the Fallen has remained pretty consistent since last Spring, but the character posters finally confirmed Shuri (Letitia Wright) went into the dust with her brother. Many suspected this was the case when her photo appeared in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in the first Endgame trailer, leading to months of speculation. But with the poster, her death is confirmed. We imagine fans will need some time to process this. The Survivors: Valkyrie, Pepper Confirmed SurvivorsBy keeping the Fallen in black and white and the survivors in color, Marvel also confirmed a handful of characters whose status was unknown until Tuesday. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Wong (Benedict Wong), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) all survived the Snap. They join Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson), Okoye (Danai Gurira), Rocket, War Machine (Don Cheadle), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), and Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as those facing a universe with such terrible losses and determining a way to undo Thanos’s ultimate act. When we last saw Wong, he was headed back to the Sanctum Sanctorum to defend it should any members of the Black Order head there. Over the past year, we’ve joked that he made the smartest choice by high-tailing it out of the movie and it seems his decision proved to be a wise one. It remains to be seen how the Avengers may approach Wong or how his understanding of the mystic arts will aid them, but it’s safe to presume the survivors will tackle the Thanos problem from all angles – including ones they may have previously dismissed as so much hokum.(Photo by @ Marvel Studios, @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)Valkyrie, meanwhile, adds another number to the powerhouse squad with Thor, Carol, and the Hulk (should he decide to come out of hiding). When we last saw her, she was with Thor aboard the Asgardian refugee ship. Since she managed to survive both Thanos’s attack on the vessel and the Snap, we’re going to assume she helped the few remaining Asgardians – there are a few left, right? – find shelter. If that mission is complete, it is likely she will join Thor in a search for a solution. Or, knowing her, she took it upon herself to figure out some way of revenging after a few stiff drinks. Also, we imagine the already burgeoning corps of Valkyrie/Carol shippers are quaking at the possibility the two will share some screen time in Endgame.Considering Favreau’s decision to leave the creative aspects of the Marvel Universe behind, it is always nice to see Happy survive where other support characters have literally bitten the dust. Then again, we knew his long-term survival was assured thanks to his appearance in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer. But since we’re assuming most of the Fallen will return during the events of Endgame, it was only a question of whether or not he was lost in the Snap. And while everyone assumed Pepper’s survival because of Tony’s message to her in both Endgame trailers, the poster is proof positive she is alive. You can bet she will pour as much of Stark Industries resources as she can muster into rebuilding the world and helping the Avengers.Others Whose Fates Are Still Unknown(Photo by @ Marvel Studios, @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)The posters also offer a reliable guess as to who among the Fallen we might see in Endgame – a Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) poster certainly suggests she will appear – but there are a few characters who are notable by their absence on posters and their still unknown status going into Endgame. As we always thought it was possible for Luis (Michael Peña) to knock out Thanos with one punch, his status intrigues us the most. Although, he is just one member of the Ant-Man family we want clarification on. Did Cassie (Abby Ryder Fortson) survive? Considering online rumors insist an older, time-traveling Cassie will feature in Endgame, keeping her fate obscured may be part of Marvel’s plan. And what of Maggie (Judy Greer), Paxton (Bobby Cannavale), Kurt (David Dastmalchian), Dr. Foster (Laurence Fishburne), and Ava (Hannah John-Kamen)? Sure, they may not factor into Endgame beyond motivating Scott to make for the Avengers HQ, but clarity is always appreciated.Others unaccounted for include General Ross (William Hurt), Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), Peter’s classmates, Maria and Monica Rambeau (Lashana Lynch and Akira Akbar), and Howard the Duck.Of course, it still remains to be seen how the survivors will avenge the Fallen. But will they remain Fallen by the time Endgame concludes? Or will there be new Fallen to mourn?Like this?
