12. Will Gardner (Josh Charles), The Good Wife 93%(Photo by CBS)When it came time for Charles to depart the series on which he d starred for five seasons, his character, Will, didn’t just move to another city. He was shot to death by his own client in the courtroom in a legitimately shocking episode made all the more impactful by the fact that news of Charles imminent exit did not leak beforehand.11. Charlie Pace (Dominic Monaghan), Lost 85%(Photo by ABC)It’s hard to single out one death from Lost since the show was so good at making us attached to every character. In the end, it had to be Charlie sacrificing himself to warn Desmond it was NOT PENNY’S BOAT radioing the Oceanic survivors.10. Wallace (Michael B. Jordan), The Wire 94%(Photo by HBO)Jordan was only 15 when he played a teenage drug dealer on HBO’s landmark series The Wire, making the moment when druglord Stringer Bell (Idris Elba) orders his murder all the more tragic.9. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Game of Thrones 89%(Photo by HBO)The Mother of Dragons and Breaker of Chains went power mad in the final moments of the series as she ascended to became ruler of Westeros. Ultimately, however, she wasn t even able to sit on the Iron Throne she d dreamed about as a kid; she was betrayed by her lover-nephew, Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen (Kit Harington), who professed his loyalty, then kissed her while stabbing her in the heart mere feet from her father s throne.8. Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens), Downton Abbey on Masterpiece 86%(Photo by ITV)Crawley estate heir Matthew was so happy to be a new father that he took his eyes off the road to appreciate nature, causing the fatal accident that shocked viewers. Fans later found out that Stevens wanted off the show to explore other opportunities.7. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies), Prison Break 60%(Photo by Fox)Callies could have made our list as Lori Grimes in The Walking Dead for her death during pregnancy, but on Prison Break her head was in a box! Fans demanded her return, so she came back and even showed up in the Fox reboot for a fifth season. At the time during season 3, her demise sure felt permanent.6. Joyce Summers (Kristine Sutherland), Buffy the Vampire Slayer 83%(Photo by The WB)Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) herself came back to life twice, but her mother Joyce did not have magic to resurrect her. For all the supernatural demons and monsters on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, Buffy spent one very real hour dealing with a loved one’s death.5. Denny Duquette (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Grey's Anatomy 84%(Photo by ABC)Denny s death was a real gut punch, because throughout the entire second season of the long-running medical drama, it looked like Izzie (Katherine Heigl) had done everything to save her patient-boyfriend, including violating protocol to get him a heart transplant. The transplant itself took, but Denny still died of a blood clot and stroke. The silver lining is this role made Morgan a star.4. Catelyn, Robb, and pregnant Talisa Stark + direwolf Grey Wind (Michelle Fairley, Richard Madden, Oona Chaplin), Game of Thrones 89%While earlier deaths in the HBO hit fantasy series tipped fans off that anyone could go at any time, the episode nicknamed The Red Wedding (season 3, episode 9 The Rains of Castamere ) took Game of Thrones death pools to another level. Half of the surviving Stark family died in the massacre carried out by Lord Walder Frey and his murderous brood: family matriarch Catelyn, King in the North Robb, his wife Talisa, and their unborn child. And while Roose Bolton was thrusting a dagger into Robb, his men outside killed Robb s direwolf, Grey Wind, further stunning an audience that was perhaps hoping the animal might avenge its faithful human companion.3. Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun), The Walking Dead 80%On another show where anyone could go at any time, The Walking Dead really psyched people out over the death of main character Glenn. First they made everyone think he died in a walker horde, but then he was somehow safe under a dumpster. Later, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) beat him beyond recognition as, with his last words, he called out to wife Maggie (Lauren Cohan).2. Ned Stark (Sean Bean), Game of Thrones 89%By the end, almost no Game of Thrones death was shocking, but this was the first — and it was the one that told viewers that if the star of the show could die, anyone could. It happened just when things were looking up for Bean, after famously dying in Goldeneye and Lord of the Rings too. For a while, the meme #DontKillSeanBean became a thing.1. Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia), This Is Us 93%After Jack escaped the Pearson family s burning house — saving everyone and the dog — fans all breathed a collective sigh of relief. But he wasn t safe yet. Viewers were gobsmacked when This Is Us delivered the cruelest twist, killing Jack with a massive heart attack related to smoke inhalation. Because of the NBC series unique format, however, this is one character that fans get to spend time with even after he s dead.

Sony Pictures Television has tapped The LEGO Movie and Cloudy with a Change of Meatballs filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to develop a number of programs based on the company s piece of Marvel Entertainment as part of an overall development deal, according to news reports. At first glance, it definitely looks like a good fit, as Lord co-wrote Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the phenomenal, Oscar-winning, and Certified Fresh debut of Spider-Man Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) in theaters — who will likely continue his adventures on the big screen. But can the duo sustain a whole Spider-Verse industry with just the intellectual property available to them through Sony’s control of Spider-Man and related characters? Perhaps these five TV show ideas prove just how easy it will be to build a television Spider-Verse.Peter Porker, The Spectacular Spider-HamOriginal Creators: Tom DeFalco and Mark ArmstrongFormat: half-hour animated seriesConsidering the impact Spider-Ham made in Into the Spider-Verse, we’ll be stunned if a Spider-Ham animated series was not the first thought Miller and Lord had when the ink dried on their deal.Originally a goof character in one of Marvel’s honest-to-goodness funny books, Peter Porker stayed around to earn his own title. The conscious funny animal parody of Spider-Man is a key part of the appeal – and why he is such a success in the film – and it is easy to imagine a half-hour cartoon playing on the fact Spider-Ham and his world’s inhabitants know they are cartoons. Spider-Ham could face Mysteriape, the Buzzard (Spider-Ham’s take on The Vulture), and the King-Pig – a part we’re sure Vincent D’Onofrio would love to make his own. To say nothing about Spider-Ham’s team-ups with Goose Rider and Deerdevil! Provided the Spider-Ham spoofs of Ghost Rider and Daredevil are part of Sony’s Spider-Man IP package, of course. The series would have to be more than punny names and one-liners. But considering Lord and Miller managed to find emotional content in LEGO minifigs and a spoof of 21 Jump Street, the hardest part will be casting the voices joining John Mulaney on this journey. We are, of course, presuming he would return to voice Spider-Ham. He already reprised the role for the Caught in the Act short film accompanying the home video release of Into the Spider-Verse.If there is one stumbling block, it may be Marvel Entertainment’s – and therefore Disney’s – general control of the characters in regards to television animation; they produce the current Spider-Man cartoon, for example. It is entirely possible they would the first shot at an animated Spider-Ham series.Spider-GwenOriginal Creators: Jason Latour and Robbie RodriguezFormat: hour-long live-action dramaThe Spider-Gwen comics re-imagine Spider-Man s ill-fated girlfriend Gwen Stacy as the one bitten by the radioactive spider on that high school field trip. She becomes Spider-Woman, while Peter uses his abilities with science to emulate her. The premise is full of great hooks thanks to the way it restructures Spider-Man s origins and world. Peter, for example, becomes the Lizard and after he attacks the school dance, Spider-Woman ends up blamed for his death. On her world, Matt Murdoch is both the Kingpin and one of her constant adversaries, Peggy Carter is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and a female Sam Wilson is the Captain America who fought in World War II (Steve Rogers made comics about her exploits after she vanished at the end of the war). But all of those changes to established characters underpin the relationships between Gwen and her friends – which include Mary Jane Watson, Betty Brant, and Glory Grant – and with her father, Captain George Stacy. He initially hunts Spider-Woman not knowing she and Gwen are the same person. And considering a lot of the elements of Spider-Gwen’s larger world would not be available to the production because of complicated rights reasons – Matt Murdoch cannot be a live-action character until 2023 thanks to the original deal with Netflix, for example – getting to the meat of Gwen’s story would be key in a live action take on the comic book. Keeping her identity secret from her father definitely makes for a great season 1 story.Silver SableOriginal Creators: Tom DeFalco and Ron FrenzFormat: hour-long live-action dramaBut for a character without complicated rights issues, Lord and Miller could turn to Silver Sable, a character so clearly in Sony’s control, they very nearly made a film teaming her up with Black Cat. It had a release date at one time and director Gina Prince-Bythewood (who defined the look of Marvel’s Cloak Dagger) set to helm the production. Then Sony separated the characters into their own projects. Now, it is unclear if it is happening at all. But maybe the character would be better served on television. As the owner of a private military contracting service, Silver Sablinova could find herself in a political drama like The West Wing or a spy game program like Alias. Trained by her father to hunt Nazis, Silver Sable personally handles any contract which leads to the apprehension or elimination of war criminals. Using those ideas, a Silver Sable TV show could be one of the meatier and grittier programs Miller and Lord develop. Provided Sony wants something more like Homeland, of course. If the company really wants multiple television shows, varying up the tone and pitching the content to different age groups will be a must. And even if the show skews more toward the adventure aspects with less of an emphasis on geopolitics or Silver Sable’s interior life, it could prove to be the concept meant for an older audience. Also, we’d welcome another pilot directed by Prince-Bythewood, who made the first episode of Cloak Dagger quite compelling despite the fact the title characters only meet for a minute or two near the end.Spider-Man NoirOriginal Creators: David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky, and  Carmine Di GiandomenicoFormat: hour-long live-action limited series or half-hour animated seriesWe’ll be honest, Spider-Man Noir, whether voiced by Nicolas Cage or not, really cannot sustain a long-running television series in the vein of Arrow or even Daredevil. But if designed as an eight-episode limited series, it has just enough of a premise and style to make it a stand-out short-run television program. Then again, a Lord and Miller series based on the concept could take its cues from the original 2009 Spider-Man Noir comic book miniseries, in which Daily Bugle reporter Ben Urich uses his network of informants to blackmail local crime boss “the Goblin” and pay for his secret drug addiction with the money. Peter initially appears as someone Ben takes under his wing in this story, until Peter gets bitten by a mystical spider – science takes a back seat to mysticism in this reality – and learns the truth about Ben. While things do not turn out great for Ben in the comic, keeping him the focus of a television series and Spider-Man as something of a mystery re-centers the concept in thrilling way. Ben becomes the eyes and ears of a heavily shadowed 1934 in which we see characters we recognize, but in whole new ways; like the Chameleon as a simple master of disguise or Otto Octavius as a Nazi agent. The reality of producing a show with a stylized period aesthetic would keep Spider-Man Noir a limited series – or turn it into a prestige animated program – but it could be strong enough to commission a second eight-episode run.

8.18.4 9月喜迎(Photo by Lucasfilm/Disney+)FALL 2020 TV SURVEY: 30 MOST ANTICIPATED RETURNING SHOWSFor Rotten Tomatoes’ annual Fall TV Survey, we asked 1,000 of our users what they’re most looking forward to in the coming TV season and to reflect on the best shows from seasons past. While the fall TV season might not necessarily look the same as it did a year ago, there s still plenty of programming headed to the small screen in the next few months. The main difference: premiere dates. Sure, there are fewer shows coming back, but the more noticeable change is the fact that most shows won t premiere in September (or even October) like normal. Theoretically, though, many of our favorite series are headed back to TV before 2020 is over. The first question in our Fall TV Survey was which returning shows fans were most looking forward to. Readers were given more than one vote, allowing them to spread the love around. (Come on, who only watches one single show?)Unsurprisingly (for anyone who s seen it, at least), The Mandalorian topped the list — by a wide margin. Around 47 percent of users are looking forward to the live-action Star Wars series second season, with 30 percent of women and 52 percent of men all voting for the Disney+ hit. The title is by far the most universally beloved series across all demographics with 50 percent of respondents in the 18-34 age bracket; 47 percent in the 35-54 bracket; and 21 percent in the 55 and over bracket.FX s Fargo, with the delayed season 4 (starring Chris Rock) premiering in September, was in second place among Rotten Tomatoes users at 18 percent. And in third, NBC s time-jumping tearjerker This Is Us, with 16 percent of respondents saying they re looking forward to season 5 (21 percent of women, 9 percent of men). Grey s Anatomy scored much higher among women than men (13 percent vs. 4 percent), while men were far more excited about the return of Fargo (18 percent vs. 7 percent) and Star Trek: Discovery (17 percent vs. 6 percent). And while 15 percent of users aged 55 and up were excited about The Crown (and 10 percent of users aged 35-54), just 6 percent of the 18-34 demo were looking forward to the historical Netflix drama.Read on to find out all of Rotten Tomatoes users’ most anticipated returning series.Disagree with the survey results? Tell us in the comments who you think should have made the list or have been ranked higher.

), Hank Hall/Hawk (Alan Ritchson), Dawn Granger/Dove (Minka Kelly), Jason Todd/Robin (Curran Walters), and Donna Troy/Wonder Girl (Conor Leslie) will be joined by a whole slew of new characters. And you might want to know a little bit about them ahead of time.Luckily, we’re here and remember the days when the Teen Titans were a group of sidekicks and that the 1990s Superboy had an odd origin. So let’s take a look at these new characters comic book pasts and what it could mean for the new season of Titans.Superboy(Photo by DC Universe)Aliases: Conner Kent, Kon-ElFirst Appearance: Adventures of Superman #500Created By: Karl Kesel and Tom GrummettPlayed By: Joshua OrpinBackground: Originally “the closest genetic equivalent” of Superman, Superboy was a Project Cadmus experiment to clone the Man of Steel and further the group’s agenda. It later turned out that experiment included using the DNA of Lex Luthor to accomplish Cadmus’s goal. After breaking out of the lab and establishing himself as the Kid of Steel, Superboy eventually received both Earther and Kryptonian names. He also helped found the Young Justice team, where he became good friends with the then-current Robin, Tim Drake.Relevance To Season 2: We expect Superboy’s search for identity will dominate his Titans storyline and maybe even lead to the Luthor connection. We also expect he’ll end up calling himself “Conner” in some roundabout way. Maybe Raven (Teagan Croft) will think of it.Aqualad(Photo by DC Universe)Alias: Garth, TempestFirst Appearance: Adventure Comics #269Created By: Robert Bernstein and Ramona FradonPlayed By: Drew Van AckerBackground: Heir to the throne of an Atlantean colony, Garth was left for dead when the Atlantean ruling class declared him inferior. Saved by both Aquaman and his father, Atlan, Garth became Aquaman s sidekick with very similar powers — though they changed to a mystical origin thanks to subsequent writers. Once Aquaman had his own family, Garth sought out new bonds and found it with the group of teen sidekicks known as the Teen Titans.Relevance To Season 2: On Titans, it easy to see his status as a sidekick remains from the few glimpses of him in the trailer released a few weeks back. But it is unclear if he is still alive in the program’s present-day story. Is it possible his death led Dick Grayson to break up the original team? Considering his moments in the trailers appear to be flashbacks to the original Titans days, his demise is a possibility.Jericho(Photo by DC Universe)Alias: Joseph WilsonFirst Appearance: Tales of the Teen Titans #43Created By: Marv Wolfman and George PérezPlayed By: Chella ManBackground: The youngest son of Slade Wilson, Joseph lost the ability to speak at a young age when he was held for ransom. But he would eventually learn he could control others by establishing eye contact. Discovering his father accepted a contract to kill the Titans, he assumed the identity of Jericho, joined the team, and saved them from Slade’s plot. Unfortunately, souls previously corrupted by Trigon entered Jericho and slowly took possession of his body; leaving Slade little choice but to kill him.Relevance To Season 2: With all that in mind, it is possible Trigon himself will attempt to possess Jericho should the Titans seemingly defeat him in the season premiere. Then again, Jericho may just be running from his infamous father — more on Deathstroke in a bit. Either way, Jericho will not be the new comic relief. That s still Beast Boy s (Ryan Potter) job.Ravager(Photo by DC Universe)Alias: Rose WilsonFirst Appearance: Deathstroke #15Created By: Marv Wolfman and Art NicholsPlayed By: Chelsea ZhangBackground: The daughter of Slade Wilson and Hmong refugee Lillian Worth, Rose was raised not knowing about her father. He also knew nothing about her. Upon discovering the truth, he left her with the Titans believing she would quickly die staying with him. She soon exhibited precognitive abilities while training with the team. But because nothing is simple with Slade, he hired his own half-brother Wade DeFarge to threaten her life so they could bond over the shared trauma. His weird idea worked, though, as she ended up killing DeFarge and taking his costumed identity of Ravager.Relevance To Season 2: And if Titans incorporates even half of the stuff her comic book counterpart has done in the last 30 years, she’ll be the show’s best new character. Judging from the trailer, we ll see her gouge out her own left eye early on — her comic book counterpart did the same thing to prove her devotion to Deathstroke.DeathstrokeAlias: Slade WilsonFirst Appearance: The New Teen Titans #2Created By: Marv Wolfman and George PérezPlayed By: Esai MoralesBackground: You might think from the entries on his kids — or from his many appearances on Arrow and the Teen Titans animated series — that you have a handle on Slade Wilson. But his relationship to the Titans makes for a rather different take on Deathstroke this time around: an unequivocal villain with dubious morals and an ends justify the means philosophy. A gifted soldier, Slade was selected for an Army experiment to create supersoldiers. He received abilities like Captain America, but lost his dedication to the country and became a notorious mercenary. Being gifted in his trade, he was able to hide his real work from his wife and sons. Some years later, his older son Grant took up the family business and accepted a contract to assassinate the Teen Titans. When he failed — dying in the process — Slade picked up the contract, beginning a long enmity with the team.Relevance To Season 2: And from the trailer, we know this enmity already exists on Titans with Dick disbanding the original team after an encounter with Deathstroke. Although it is unclear if the incident with Grant was the underlying cause of Dick s decision. Deathstoke often vacillates between antagonist and antihero, but we hope to see the character thoroughly play the villain and manipulate the Titans as often as he attempts to kill them.Dr. Light(Photo by DC Universe)Aliases: Arthur LightFirst Appearance: Justice League of America #12Created By: Gardner Fox and Mike SekowskiPlayed By: Michael MosleyBackground: After accidentally killing his S.T.A.R. Labs coworker and stealing his light-powered super-suit, Arthur Light became a minor antagonist to the Justice League and a more persistent, if laughable enemy to the Teen Titans. Essentially a comedy villain for many years, the 2004 miniseries Identity Crisis saw his past as a de-fanged children s villain revamped into something more deadly and serious.Relevance To Season 2: Considering the way Identity Crisis changed him, we expect Dr. Light to make a blast from the past appearance, illustrating the way the world has changed since Dick disbanded the team. That said, his light-powered armor glimpsed in a few moments during the trailer sure looks silly. But we wouldn t put it past the show to give a us a big misdirection where Dr. Light is concerned.Shimmer(Photo by DC Universe)Aliases: Selinda FlindersFirst Appearance: New Teen Titans #3Created By: Marv Wolfman and George PérezPlayed By: Hanneke TalbotBackground: An Australian metahuman sent to Markovia (of Black Lightning fame) to get a sense of morality, Shimmer ended up co-founding the Fearsome Five alongside her brother Baran, Dr. Light, and the villains Gizmo and Psimon. The group repeatedly fought the Titans before both Shimmer and her brother retired from their criminal careers. Psimon eventually killed her and Shazam archfoe Dr. Sivana used the promise of resurrecting her to convince Baran to join a new Fearsome Five.Relevance To Season 2: Dr. Light s present-day activities may include forming a Fearsome Five. But with dialogue in the trailer suggesting a past between Donna Troy (Conor Leslie) and Shimmer, we re inclined to think the Titans sudden return will bring all of their old foes out of retirement.Bruce Wayne(Photo by DC Universe)conor leslieAliases: Batman, The Dark Knight, The Caped CrusaderFirst Appearance: Detective Comics #27Created By: Bob Kane and Bill FingerPlayed By: Iain GlenBackground: After the death of his parents, young Bruce Wayne trained his mind and body to wage a one-man war on crime itself. He also eventually adopted Dick Grayson and drafted him into his war.Relevance to Season 2: On Titans, Bruce’s choice to bring Dick into his crusade is treated in the first season as a form of abuse; motivating Dick’s reluctance to protect Rachel from her father or lead the group of new metas he discovered along the way. In the second season, we will see a much older Bruce ready to hand the cowl over to Dick. Considering the way Batman was framed last season, we expect this request to come with a lot of caveats and seem more like a poisoned chalice than the chance of a lifetime. Back in the comics, Dick eventually established his own identity — even if he has taken the mantle of the Bat a couple of times — and we expect his journey to finding that identity on Titans will be dramatized in his encounters with Bruce. Also, thanks to Identity Crisis, Batman and Deathstroke are considered opposite numbers in the DC Universe, so it is always possible they will come to blows as well.Titans season 2 premieres Friday, September 6 on DC Universe.

This Week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles as the remakes of Lilo Stitch, The Scorpion King, and Short Circuit. This WEEK S TOP STORYCRAZY RICH ASIANS DIRECTOR JOHN M. CHU TO HELM LIVE-ACTION LILO STITCH(Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection, (c)Walt Disney courtesy Everett Collection)Earlier this year (just a few months after Disney+ launched), the news broke that Disney s live-action remake of the 2002 animated hit Lilo Stitch ( Certified Fresh at  86%), which was first announced two years ago in 2018, was being developed as a Disney+ movie (a la Lady and the Tramp). Well, it appears that it might be considered for for a theatrical release after all. That s because the latest news on the remake is that Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, Now You See Me 2) is now in talks with Walt Disney Pictures to direct the live-action Lilo Stitch. We should note immediately that the remake is more appropriately called a live-action/CGI hybrid, since Stitch (and the other alien characters) will almost certainly be computer-animated, while Lilo and her Hawaiian friends and family will be played by live-action talent. Jon M. Chu s next film as director will be the adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda s In the Heights, which is now scheduled for release on June 18, 2021 after being pushed back almost a full year by the COVID-19 pandemic.Other Top Headlines1. JEFF NICHOLS TO DIRECT A QUIET PLACE SPINOFF(Photo by Ben Rothstein/©Warner Bros.)If the COVID-19 pandemic had never happened, A Quiet Place Part II would have come out eight months ago (March 20, 2020) as of next Friday. Around that time, John Krasinski was quoted online as saying he had an idea for a third Quiet Place movie, but before that ever happens, it sounds like we re going to get something different in the form of a spinoff that expands the franchise s cinematic universe instead. Granted, this spinoff is also based on a story idea by John Krasinski, so it s quite possible that it s the same idea he talked about back in March. The third film is expected to expand the post-apocalyptic world in which human survivors are stalked by monsters with super-sensitive hearing. Krasinski directed the first two movies (and appeared in both along with his wife Emily Blunt), but the third film will be directed by Jeff Nichols, marking the first time he s worked on a franchise film after several of his own projects, including Mud (Certified Fresh at 97%), Midnight Special (Certified Fresh at 84%), and Loving (Certified Fresh at 89%). Paramount Pictures is reportedly aiming to release the third Quiet Place movie sometime in 2022. A Quiet Place Part II, starring Blunt, Cillian Murphy, and Djimon Hounsou, is currently scheduled for April 23, 2021, which is over a year after the sequel s original release date. Although no casting has been announced yet for this third Quiet Place, it s worth noting that Michael Shannon has starred (Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter, Midnight Special) or co-starred in every one of Jeff Nichols films so far, so it s reasonable to assume we might see him hiding from monsters soon, too.2. THIS WEEK IN CHRIS PRATT: THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER AND SAIGON BODYGUARDS(Photo by Walt Disney Studios)Chris Pratt wrapped filming this week on Jurassic World: Dominion (6/10/2022), and his name is already attached to two new movies. The higher profile project of the two is also the least surprising, especially for anyone who saw Avengers: Endgame, which ended with Chris Hemsworth s Thor going off into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Having said that, it s still of interest that Pratt will indeed be reuniting with another of Marvel s Chrises namely Hemsworth  for Thor: Love and Thunder (2/11/2021). Perhaps the real news here is that we re only hearing about Chris Pratt, and not, say, Dave Bautista (Drax), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), and Karen Gillan (Nebula). In related news, James Gunn confirmed this week that he has finished the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 screenplay. Meanwhile, Pratt also signed on this week with Universal Pictures (the studio behind the Jurassic franchise) to co-star in Saigon Bodyguards (with Wolf Warrior star Wu Jing), which will be a remake of the 2016 Vietnamese action comedy of the same title, and which will be co-produced by frequent Marvel directors Joe and Anthony Russo.3. MADS MIKKELSEN MAY REPLACE JOHNNY DEPP IN FANTASTIC BEASTS 3(Photo by Jonathan Olley/©Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)In last week s Weekly Ketchup, we linked to a Collider piece that speculated about nine actors who could possibly replace Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald in the upcoming sequel Fantastic Beasts 3 (due out in theaters on July 15, 2022). Well, it would appear Collider was on the right track with one of their choices, as Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is indeed reportedly now in talks to take over as Grindelwald in the sequel. Mikkelsen has been very prolific over the last decade or so, but most fans probably know him best either as the milky-eyed villain Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, Jyn Erso s dad in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, or the TV version of serial killer Hannibal Lecter. Filming of Fantastic Beasts 3 had already begun in London in September, so the role switch will necessitate some reshoots (Depp reportedly only shot one scene), which is presumably part of why the release date has been moved back from November 21, 2021 to July 15, 2022 (that, and the COVID-19 pandemic, probably). As for the why behind Depp s departure from the sequel, you can read more about that right here, and also in this piece, in which it s revealed that Johnny Depp will still receive his full salary as part of the deal for him to drop out.4. OPRAH WINFREY AND BRAD PITT TEAMING UP FOR TA-NEHISI COATES ADAPTATION (Photo by Bennett Raglin/Getty Images)Ta-Nehisi Coates is a multiple award-winning journalist-turned-author who has received a Genius Grant from the MacArthur Foundation, has worked for Marvel Comics on both Black Panther and Captain America, and whose first novel The Water Dancer was published last year. Now, Oprah Winfrey s Harpo Films and Brad Pitt s Plan B production companies are teaming with MGM for a film adaptation of The Water Dancer, which will be adapted from Coates own screenplay. Combining elements of magic realism, The Water Dancer tells the story of a pre-Civil-War slave who discovers he has a superpower he calls conduction that allows him to travel great distances, which he then uses as a member of the Underground Railroad. No director has been announced yet, but the wording of the Hollywood Reporter piece suggests that the job could go to producer Kamilah Forbes, who theatrically directed Coates Between the World and Me.5. BLACK PANTHER STAR DANAI GURIRA TO PLAY THE FIGHTING SHIRLEY CHISHOLM (Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection)Back when Stephen Colbert played a political blowhard named Stephen Colbert on The Colbert Report, one of his running gags in his Better Know a District segment was to always use the word Fighting (as in Wisconsin s Fighting Fifth District ). Colbert hardly invented that usage, but it was still so well used by him that it s one of the jokes that still resonates years later. In that spirit, one has to wonder if, in the near future, when Danai Gurira (Black Panther, The Walking Dead) inevitably appears on Colbert s CBS show to promote The Fighting Shirley Chisholm, he might bring back that exclamation. As the title suggests, Gurira will portray New York congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, who made history in 1968 as the first African American woman elected to the U.S. Congress, and in 1972 became the first African American candidate to run for a major party s nomination for President of the United States. It should be noted that this film will not be a traditional biopic, but will instead be a drama set specifically during Chisholm s 1972 run for president. Chisholm was also one of the lead characters in this year s Mrs. America mini-series, and the subject of the documentary Chisholm 72. Danai Gurira is taking over the role for Viola Davis, who had previously been attached to star.6. AIN T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH FOR SELENA GOMEZ (Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection)Singer and actress Selena Gomez has had a series of health issues over the last several years, including lupus and a kidney transplant, and for her newest film project, she will be taking on the story of a woman who similarly faced physical challenges. Selena Gomez is now attached to star as Peruvian mountaineer Silvia Vasquez-Lavado, who became the first Peruvian woman to summit Mount Everest and the first openly gay woman to complete the Seven Summits, a challenge to climb the highest mountain on each continent. The project is titled In the Shadow of the Mountain, and it will be directed by Elgin James (Little Birds, Mayans M.C.), who will also adapt the screenplay.7. BELOVED 1980S ROBOT COMEDY SHORT CIRCUIT TO GET LATINX REMAKE (Photo by (c)TriStar Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)The movies of the 1980s are routinely held in high regard, sometimes out of pure nostalgia, but let s be real here for a moment: not all of these films have aged especially well. Consider, for example, the 1986 science fiction comedy Short Circuit (Rotten at 59%), which is ostensibly a light-hearted adventure about a sweet robot named Johnny-5 until you remember that the film also featured Fisher Stevens in brown-face pretending to be an Indian scientist (something Aziz Ansari later talked to Stevens about). That said, Hollywood may soon get the chance to do the Short Circuit concept justice without the implied squirms that come from cultural appropriation, because Spyglass Media Group is now developing a Latinx remake of the film. The remake will be adapted by the writing team of Eduardo Cisneros (co-writer of Eugenio Derbez s Instructions Not Included, Rotten at 57%) and producer-turned-screenwriter Jason Shuman. It s not yet known what a Latinx remake of Short Circuit exactly means, or who will star in it, but one has to guess that given their connections, Eugenio Derbez may be one of the possible stars.8. JAKE GYLLENHAAL TO DRIVE MICHAEL BAY S AMBULANCE REMAKE (Photo by Anne Marie Fox/TM & ©Copyright Fox Searchlight)After spending much of the last decade working on various Transformers movies, Michael Bay made the transition last year to Netflix with 6 Underground (Rotten at 36%), and recently, we learned that his next film is likely to be a remake of the 2005 Danish thriller Ambulancen (which is easily discernable as Danish for Ambulance). New projects get announced all the time, some of which we never hear of again, but Ambulance very quickly made its next step through development this week as Jake Gyllenhaal is now in talks to star in Bay s Ambulance remake, which Univeral Pictures is also reportedly also in talks to distribute. The premise is reportedly being kept under wraps (which is a bit funny, considering the film is a remake), but it is being compared to the great action thrillers of the ’90s like Speed and Bay’s Bad Boys. 9. DWAYNE JOHNSON DEVELOPING A SCORPION KING REBOOT(Photo by (c)Universal courtesy Everett Collection)After five movies (six, if you include The Mummy Returns, Rotten at 47%), Universal Pictures is now developing a reboot of The Scorpion King, the mythological warrior-king who started as a Mummy spinoff. Dwayne Johnson didn t star as The Scorpion King in any of the sequels  three different actors did: Michael Copon, Victor Webster, and Zach McGowan but his Seven Bucks Productions is partnering with Universal Pictures on this reboot. Universal is looking for a new actor to take over the title role, and the reboot is also not expected to tie into The Mummy in the way the character originally did in The Mummy Returns. It s also not yet known if Dwayne Johnson might join for a role other than that of The Scorpion King (maybe he could be the Brendan Fraser this time around?). The Mummy Returns was Dwayne Johnson s feature film acting debut, which is reportedly why he loves The Scorpion King so much, and is shepherding this remake. Although little is known about the new film at this point, one detail that has already been revealed is that, rather than being an adventure set in ancient times, the reboot will move the setting to modern times, which actually makes it more like Tom Cruise s The Mummy (Rotten at 16%) than the three Brendan Fraser movies, which were set in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, respectively. For the Scorpion King reboot, Universal Pictures has hired screenwriter Jonathan Herman, who received an Academy Award nomination for Universal s Straight Outta Compton (Certified Fresh at 89%), and who also worked with Universal on next year s F9 and the studio s upcoming remakes of Fear (Rotten at 46%) and Scarface (Certified Fresh at 82% ).On an Apple device? At 40% on the Tomatometer, Godzilla: King of the Monsters didn t fare so well with critics, who largely felt the kaiju action in the film was spectacular but was too frequently sidelined in favor of a half-baked human story. Fans, on the other hand, felt quite differently, rewarding the giant monster battle royale with an 86% Audience Score. That s a far more impressive number than the 2014 reboot (66%), the Monsterverse follow-up Kong: Skull Island (69%), and even the recent Japan-produced Shin Godzilla (74%) all three of which, we might add, were also Certified Fresh according to the critics. In the wake of its box office-topping opening weekend, we decided to take a look through the user reviews for King of the Monsters to see if we could discover what the cause of this rift was, and the results were somewhat surprising. Generally speaking, while RT users tend to agree with critics about the film s shortcomings, the former are far more forgiving. At the end of the day, fans came to the movie to see Godzilla face off against or team up with some of the franchise s most iconic characters, and they got exactly what they wanted. Check out the user reviews and let us know what you thought of the film, and these reviews, in the comments. (Note, some of the reviews have been slightly edited for length and grammar/spelling.)(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)How Are the Action and Visuals?Hard-to-follow CGI overload. Ro, 2 starsGood action, but under a blue Snapchat filter. Bad plot. Buckshot, 2 starsExcessively silly, but the imagery is often jaw-dropping and honestly, what more do you need from a monster movie? Alec B., 3 starsThis movie is awesome. Truly one of the greatest and most epic kaiju movies ever made. The battle scenes were beautifully shot and gave a large sense of scale. A must-see.– Colton H., 4 StarsKing of the Monsters goes full Avengers in introducing King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan for a full-on monster mash. It s by no means a good film, but it s dumb fun watching the titans clash. Zak, 4 stars(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)What About the Writing?Garbage. Pacific Rim was onto something; these guys didn t take notes. NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE STUPID HUMAN STORIES, FFS. Michael D., 0.5 starsNo plot, no point Just a lot of noise! Mary R., 0.5 starsPoor writing, average acting, cliched characters, terrible dialog. Felt like it was four hours long. Todd, 1 starWanted to love it as a Godzilla fan for almost 50 years, but it lacked drama, had laughable and unlikable human characters. The color palette was dark and generally monochromatic. The attempts at one-liners fell terribly flat. The kaijus deserve much better. Brandon M., 2 starsIt s not one of those films that you go to for the writing, that s for sure! But all in all, the kaiju battles were glorious fun to watch and the performances were decent. A good summer popcorn flick! M00vieCritic W., 3.5 starsThe only thing that would have made the movie any better is if they took out all the human actors. For a longtime Godzilla fan, this film had me smiling ear to ear. I cant stress enough how much i loved this movie! Michael, 5 starsReady for a nerdgasm??? KOTM brings the heat. For all the dyed-in-the-wool fans, this scratched the itch left festering since 2014 s good but underwhelming outing. The plot was cohesive, the human elements tied into what was happening with the monsters, and I was searching for some bad CGI, but couldn t really find any. Go see it. I ll be going back for IMAX. Eric, 5 stars(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)Will It Satisfy Longtime Fans?Classic Godzilla. Loved it! Wish we saw more of the other titans in action, though. A couple slow spots, but very entertaining. Childhood memories came rushing back.  JLW, 3.5 starsAs a fan of Godzilla: Final Wars, I am pretty satisfied. It s a film that is meant to be watched with little seriousness. And I very much enjoyed the callbacks to the original soundtrack.  Hansen W., 4 starsMovie antagonist didn t make a lot of sense, but at the same time, their ridiculousness echoed that of the Heisei era Toho movies. The monster battles are thrilling, though sometimes I wish they didn t cut away so often. Would be nice if there were some day fights but that s okay. This movie is stuck between whether it wants to take itself seriously or not. This problem rests with the characters some are fun and relevant while others are cheesy and trope-riddled. The score is top notch and the resurgence of the original theme is breathtaking. Overall, if you are looking for classic monster action and are a Godzilla fan through and through, you will have a good time. And if you don t like classic monster tropes then idk why you would go watch this movie in the first place. Seth S., 4 starsIt truly did feel like the Godzilla movies I remember watching as a youngster, except with better visual effects and better acting. The monster action was intense and the visuals were breathtaking. A must-see for every fan of the franchise or anyone wanting to see a good sci-fi/monster movie! Levi, 5 starsAbsolute love letter to the Toho films, full of easter eggs, fan service, and giant monster fights. Easily in my top 5 Godzilla movies (from the U.S. or Japan). Mike S., 5 stars(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)Does It Live Up to the Hype?It takes a very accomplished pen to walk this improbability-act of a tightrope balance. This ain t it. Gerald H., 2 starsExactly what Godzilla fans want. Some really cheesy dialogue aside, I couldn t ask for anything better. Critics are just flat out wrong about this movie. GO SEE IT! Adam H., 4.5 starsAMAZIIIIIING!!! Godzilla 2014 was a better Hollywood film, but this was a better GODZILLA movie!! Great job! Looking forward to Godzilla vs. Kong!!! 欧宝体育最新版本登录 Do we really need another Toy Story movie?  For a significant chunk of moviegoers, that was the first question that came to mind when Toy Story 4 was announced, but here we are, almost a decade after Toy Story 3, and it looks like the wait was worth it. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and most of the rest of the voice cast are back albeit in a slightly more limited capacity in a new adventure that centers on a homemade toy named Forky (voiced by Tony Hale) who s having trouble comprehending and accepting his own existence. Woody takes it upon himself to help Forky fit in, and in the process, he reconnects with an old friend and begins to reexamine his own choices. It was always going to take a monumental achievement to make a return trip to this universe worthwhile, and by most accounts, critics say first-time director Josh Cooley has succeeded. The Certified Fresh Toy Story 4 is yet another triumph for Pixar that somehow manages to find poignant new ways to tug on heartstrings and entertain audiences of all ages, and with a supporting voice cast of new characters that includes Christina Hendricks, Key Peele, and Keanu Reeves, this one is poised to be another hit.

Above: Hanton with Hemsworth in a photo from Hanton s Instagram (@bobbydazzler84).What’s the craziest stunt you’ve ever done for a Marvel movie? In Infinity War, I got smacked off my feet by Peter Dinklage s character. I got punted off my feet, somersaulted through the air with a twist, and then landed on a rock face and then headplant into the ground, which was a pretty gnarly hit. What was the toughest MCU movie to shoot?Thor: Ragnarok was intense. The movie is all about Thor, so there were a lot of stunts for Thor and myself and Chris to do in that movie. A month into rehearsal, I snapped my groin I think on that movie I cranked my neck a few times, popped my shoulder out. That’s probably the most I’ve picked up injuries on a Marvel movie, due to the fact that there are a lot more stunts to rehearse, a lot more stunts to do, and a little bit of being unlucky with a couple of landings and tweaks I picked up. That’s the nature of the beast. We spend as much time in rehearsal as possible, breaking it down and making sure it’s as safe as possible before we take the mats out. The stunt team are all working together to make sure it looks great, but it’s repeatable and safe. That’s why we’re on the movie 10-12 weeks prior. I’ve picked up injuries along the way but it’s part of the job. What was the most memorable part of working on Endgame?I think just being surrounded by so many A-list movie stars and so many superheroes all under one roof. The end battle is incredible, all these actors running next to each other and having little fight sequences with each other; Cap getting the hammer, and stuff like that. It was a great ending to a great team and a bunch of professional actors and actresses. What has it been doubling for Thor and working alongside Chris Hemsworth for so long?Chris and I have become very close as friends. We’re the same age, have the same sense of humor. We have a great laugh on set, and Chris is such a great guy. It’s been nearly seven years, so we’ve developed a very close relationship. Without being biased, I think Thor is one of the best characters, so hopefully they do continue [making Thor movies].Glenn Foster: Double for Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) They put the helmet on me, and I suddenly had a flashback to that moment as a kid of seeing Darth Vader helmeted, and I suddenly thought, oh my goodness, this is that moment that I imagined as a kid.' (Photo by Industrial Light & Magic/©Paramount/Courtesy Everett Collection)What was the first Marvel movie you worked on?Iron Man 2.How did you get the job?I was with Robert at that point. We had done Sherlock Holmes prior to that, and he expressed an interest in keeping me with him for whatever journey was in store for us. That was 10 years ago, so it’s kind of been a decade of craziness and an incredible life experience for me. We’ve done maybe seven Marvel films together? And a bunch of other different projects as well.Is there a difference between doubling for Tony Stark and doubling for Iron Man?Iron Man is a lot less quirky and fluid. Robert has a very unique way of moving and acting. Maybe it’s why he was so good as Chaplin. And then, an Iron Man-type movement is much more about being upright, more strident, more powerful. In a way, slightly more mechanized. In some instances, that was dictated by the amount of movement that the suits would allow. Earlier versions were actually very tricky to move in and see anything in.What’s the craziest stunt you ever did for a Marvel movie? For Iron Man 3, we were jumping off cranes. Those cranes were 300-, maybe 400-feet high. Launching yourself off the side of those was interesting. Definite leaps of faith, especially since it was all shot at night. You’re leaping into darkness and trusting that the various cables you’re attached to are going to do what they’re supposed to.Got any MCU war stories?I’ve certainly taken some knocks. Nothing that has particularly stopped me from continuing with a project. On all the Marvel projects, we’ve been very lucky in having had a good group of stunt engineering guys or girls. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to be on those rigs or whatever it was and come out the other side.(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)What was the most memorable part of working on Endgame? The scene were Tony travels back in time and he’s dressed as a SWAT guy in the past, but [the 2012 version of him] is talking to Robert Redford. They did that whole sequence in the morning, and I was the [present-day Tony] in the background, in the SWAT gear, observing him while he went through this whole scene. It was sprung on me that for the afternoon’s work Robert [Downey Jr.] would be the guy in the SWAT gear, so they would do the close-up stuff on him, watching me, now perform that whole dialogue sequence. I essentially got to act on screen, with dialogue, not only with Chris Hemsworth, but with an absolute living icon, Robert Redford. That was incredibly memorable to me.What has it mean to you to be part of the MCU for a decade?I remember seeing a documentary about Star Wars as a kid, and they showed Darth Vader without a mask. I remember thinking, “that would be the coolest job ever. To be a character like that, and to actually be the guy in the mask, to be that iconic, awe-inspiring character.” I came to do Iron Man 2, and they told me I was going to wear the suit, and the first time I ever put it on, it was for a sequence where there’s a party in Tony’s house. They put the helmet on me, and I suddenly had a flashback to that moment as a kid of seeing Darth Vader helmeted, and I suddenly thought, “oh my goodness, this is that moment that I imagined as a kid.”Loyd Bateman: Double for The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) These large chunks of foam that you’d have to wear in order to make parts of your body the correct size — that makes it tricky. (Photo by © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / © Marvel Studios)What was the first Marvel movie you worked on?I actually have only done Infinity War and Endgame. How did you get the job?I’ve been working in film for almost 20 years now, doing stunts and etcetera. I sent a short reel of some of the things that I’ve done, including a short film that I made for my son called Zarg Attack!. He wanted to fight a giant robot. I did a stop-motion animation robot and made it attack him. I think it’s that clip that landed me the job, between that and my performance stuff. What was it like meeting Mark Ruffalo for the first time?Mark was really sweet. It was early 2017 when we started to do some of the motion-capture stuff for Infinity War. Right out of the gate he was very friendly, very sweet, very open. Talked a little bit about how he was playing about it, the character. I brought some of my ideas to the table, and he was really open and receptive. What’s the difference between doubling for Bruce Banner and for the Hulk?If I’m completely honest, I’m physically larger and, I daresay, a hair more muscular than Mark, so I actually didn’t do any of the Bruce Banner stuff. I did all the motion capture stuff for the Hulk, and for smart-Hulk.While wearing the motion-capture suit, did you also have a fake head on a stick, like the ones Josh Brolin wore as Thanos? We did from time to time, just as a height reference, but often if we were being really physical, it would just break. We would take it off to do what we needed to do. Also, often the character would be fighting other characters of equivalent size, so it was less tricky. Thanos would often be fighting human-sized characters, so there were eyeline issues all the time and size issues.(Photo by © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / © Marvel Studios)Did the motion-capture nature of the character make doing the stunts more complicated? It was a bit of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you can wear as much padding as you wanted. You could be as safe as you needed. Sometimes, though, with all the extra gear on — like height offsets or these large chunks of foam that you’d have to wear in order to make parts of your body the correct size — that makes it tricky. Other than that, not too difficult. What was the craziest stunt you’ve done for a Marvel movie? The stunts weren’t physically that huge for my character. The more complex stuff was fight choreography, really. For this particular character, any of the explosions or huge falls he would have to do, they would just do it completely with computers. It’s a magic show. It’s a lot of trickery. We got to have fun, be safe, and do things that were spectacular at the same time.Did you ever get injured? We always get bumps and bruises. I don’t mean to put my experience too lightly. Obviously the human characters who are acting with real practical walls and windows and things are going to have a much harder time, but I still did a certain amount of getting kicked and punched backwards, landing on things, all that sort of stuff. What was the most memorable part of working on Endgame?Watching the finished film in the theater, I think was the most memorable to me, because seeing it all come together after all that time and all that effort, how hard everyone worked, everyone putting their heart and soul into it. Seeing it all come together and getting to watch it with a group of people was actually made it was the most memorable thing. It was fantastic.Daniel Hargrave: Double for Captain America (Chris Evans) That America’s ass shot, when he’s on the ground, was shot during additional photography – that was all Chris Evans. (Photo by © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / © Marvel Studios)What was the first Marvel movie you worked on?Captain America: The Winter Soldier. How did you get the job?My brother Sam had doubled Chris Evans for the whole movie, and they were going to do some additional photography. Sam and I were actually working on The Hunger Games, and he had a long beard and he didn’t feel like shaving for a couple days of reshoots so he volunteered me. I went out there and doubled Chris for one scene. What was it like meeting Chris Evans for the first time?He was super nice. My brother had a good relationship with Chris, and he was very cordial and nice to me. Of course, he expected me to be like my brother and perform at a higher level, so it was a little pressure, first time meeting him, but he was a very nice guy. What’s the craziest stunt you’ve ever done for a Marvel movie? In Endgame, when my brother and me were both doubling Cap for the “Cap versus Cap” scene. There was the double stair fall, where we both ran and jumped off of a platform down the stairs at the same time, and went crashing down the stairs and off the edge into a box catcher, and then they hoisted us up. It was a throwback to when we were little kids on the farm, we used to make little videos. Kinda funny, now 25 years later, we’re doing it on the big screen for one of the biggest movies in the world. It was awesome, a dream come true.
