新三国萌将录采用百度引擎1(Baidu 0)Chernobyl talent reap more rewards for their 96% Certified Fresh HBO limited series; a TV industry reckoning gets underway; after 24 seasons, there’s finally a Black Bachelor; Outlander stars road trip; TV and film production gets a green light in Los Angeles; and more in the week s top TV and streaming news.TOP STORYThe Last of Us Video Game TV Adaptation Gets Chernobyl Emmy Winner Johan Renck on PilotDebbie DayTime for another round of Last of Us fantasy casting, Chernobyl love, and video game–adaptation wish lists: HBO is reuniting with its award-winning Chernobyl director Johan Renck, who will direct the network’s pilot for the adaptation of the wildly popular Sony/Naughty Dog video game The Last of Us. HBO announced a series version of the game in March. The 2013 adventure game centers around Joel, a post-apocalyptic smuggler who is tasked with getting 14-year-old Ellie out of a dangerous quarantine zone and across the United States in an increasingly violent, harsh journey. In addition to his work on Chernobyl, Renck also directed episodes of The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Bates Motel, so he is well experienced to handle the action, drama, and zombie-like creatures of The Last of Us series. The award-winning game’s creative director, Neil Druckmann, will also work on the series as a writer and executive, along with Chernobyl creator and Emmy-winning writer Craig Mazin. The series may also include stories from the game’s upcoming sequel, The Last of Us Part II, which is scheduled to be released on June 19 for PlayStation. The original game has sold more than 20 million copies.Oh, about that casting: How about TWD and The Punisher alum Jon Bernthal for Joel and Unbelievable Golden Globe–nominee Kaitlyn Dever as Ellie?

This Week s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news (those stories about what movies Hollywood is working on for you next), covering such titles as The Batman and wait, you only want to know about The Batman, right? OK, here we go This WEEK S TOP STORYRobert Pattinson In Talks for The Batman, Along with Nicholas Hoult(Photo by Dee Cercone/Everett Collection, @ Warner Bros. Pictures, Jason Smith/Everett Collection)British actor Robert Pattinson made his film debut as Cedric Diggory in 2005 s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire but he s probably still most recognized for playing the vampire Edward Cullen in the five Twlight Saga films. Now in his 30s, Pattinson has lately been focusing on independent and non-Hollywood films like Good Time, High Life, The Rover, and The Lost City of Z. Thursday night, the news broke that Pattinson is now in talks to continue his relationship with Warner Bros. (which produced the Harry Potter films) in one of their highest-profile upcoming projects, the DC Comics adaptation The Batman. That report came from Variety, but some competitors are cautioning that the deal with Pattinson is not final, with Nicholas Hoult (Tolkien, About a Boy) also in the running, if Pattinson does not sign on. The Batman will be the first solo movie for the DC Comics superhero since The Dark Knight Rises, and will be directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), whose most recent film was 2017 s War for the Planet of the Apes. Pattinson s next film for Warner Bros. will be an untitled Christopher Nolan s project (July 7, 2020), with The Batman scheduled nearly a year later on June 25, 2021.Fresh Developments1. The Next Star Wars Trilogy, Kicking off in 2022, Comes Via the Game of Thrones Showrunners(Photo by Gregorio T. Binuya/Everett Collection)Much has been made this week about the declining Tomatometer scores for the last two episodes of Game of Thrones, but seen from the big picture, the show still retains an impressive 91% Tomatometer score. Having said that, Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Pictures may have been better off announcing this week s news earlier in the month. Last week, Disney confirmed that the Star Wars franchise will take a three-year hiatus after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (December 20, 2019) with new films every two years thereafter (December 12, 2022; December 20, 2024; December 18, 2026). This week we learned that the first of these new Star Wars films in 2022 will be produced by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. That revelation came with almost no other details, but there are lingering rumors that their Star Wars project will be set in the same era as the Star Wars: The Old Republic video games. Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is also reportedly working on a new Star Wars trilogy.2. The Real Mandarin will appear in the MCU(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)As it turned out, Thanos was the big bad of the first 20 or so films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If we look back to the original Iron Man, however, the villain that was being teased was the Mandarin, one of Iron Man s oldest arch-nemeses. The road to the Mandarin continued in 2013 with Iron Man 3, and the All Hail the King Marvel One-Shot short film, but we have not yet seen the Mandarin in his classic form. This week, in a Reddit AMA, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige directly addressed The Mandarin, answering Yes to a question about future plans for the character. As to when we might see the Mandarin, one strong and obvious possibility is the Shang-Chi movie, which is currently in active development.3. Sebastian Stan Joins Lupita Nyong o and Jessica Chastain in Spy Movie 355(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection)Something that we point out all the time here is that there have been so many Marvel movies by this point that many new films have at least a couple of Marvel stars (especially if we can include the Fox movies). Jessica Chastain (who s joining the club with next month s Dark Phoenix) is producing and starring in a new international spy movie called 355, which will start filming on July 8 in Paris before moving to London and Morocco. 355 will feature several female costars, including Lupita Nyong o (Black Panther), Penelope Cruz, and Fan Bingbing (Blink from X-Men: Days of Future Past). We can now also add to the cast Sebastian Stan, a.k.a. the Winter Soldier, and Edgar Ramirez (who costarred with Penelope Cruz in TV s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story). (Marion Cotillard had previously been attached to costar but has recently dropped out.) The title 355 is a reference to Agent 355, a female spy during the American Revolution.4. Rami Malek Finds Denzel Washington s Little Things(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection)Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek recently signed on to star in the next James Bond film as the its villain, and this week, he signed on for another new project. Malek is in talks with Warner Bros. to join Denzel Washington in the police crime thriller The Little Things. Washington will play a burned-out cop up in Kern County who teams with Baxter (Malek), a crack detective from the LA Sheriff’s Department, to catch a serial killer. The Little Things refers to Washington s character s ability to see the little things that can help solve a case. 5. Emma Thompson Joins Emma Stone In Disney s Cruella(Photo by @ A24)Walt Disney Pictures is proceeding, a few movies a year, in their far-reaching plans to adapt their classic animated movies into live-action films (including next week s Aladdin). Just last week, Disney announced a release date of December 23, 2020 for Cruella, their live-action reimagining of the villain character from 101 Dalmatians. Emma Stone has been attached for a while to play Cruella in the film, which will be set in the world of high fashion of the 1970s. Another Emma, Emma Thompson, signed on this week to play the film s antagonist, which also gives us a better idea about the premise (basically, it s a prequel to 101 Dalmatians). Stone s version of Cruella will be a brilliant clothing designer who nonetheless toils as a lowly department store worker. One day, a posh woman known as the Baroness (Thompson) enters the store, wearing Cruella’s special locket that was given to her by her mother, leading Cruella to plot against her. Cruella is scheduled to come out five days after Coming to America 2 and Steven Spielberg s West Side Story, and the same day as The Croods 2.6. Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones, And Morgan Freeman Team Up on The Comeback Trail(Photo by @ Broad Green Pictures, © Vertical Entertainment /Courtesy Everett Collection, ©20th Century Fox Film Corp. All rights reserved./Courtesy Everett Collection)Every few years or so, we get another movie that brings together a few older movie stars. Tommy Lee Jones starred in Space Cowboys (with Clint Eastwood, James Garner, and Donald Sutherland), and then in 2013, Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman costarred in Last Vegas (for just two examples). The latest such movie is called The Comeback Trail, and the stars this time around will be De Niro and Freeman again, plus Jones. De Niro will play a man in debt to a mob boss (Freeman) who creates an insurance fraud by casting washed-up, suicidal cowboy/movie star Duke Montana (Jones) in a poorly written Western with the intention of killing him during the first days of filming. Zach Braff (of TV s Scrubs) will also costar in The Comeback Trail as De Niro s business partner.#7. Chris Rock (!?) delivering Saw Spin-off for 2020(Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection, @ Lionsgate)Way before James Wan directed movies like The Conjuring and Aquaman, he was actually the director of the very first Saw movie in 2004 (and he produced several of the sequels). The torture-trap horror franchise is on its way back to theaters for next year (October 23, 2020), but it s coming to us via a celebrity producer in the form of Saturday Night Live alum Chris Rock. Rock is reportedly a longtime fan of the Saw movies and came to the untitled Saw spin-off with his own pitch for how to start a new story that is not a reboot, but one that will work within the existing Saw mythology. The new Saw movie will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, the director of Saw II (37%), Saw III (28%), Saw IV (18%), and 11-11-11 (7%) – but could the involvement of Chris Rock and James Wan turn things around?Rotten Ideas2. James Wan Producing Mortal Kombat RebootJoel MearesLast week s Pokémon Detective Pikachu may have broken box office records, and also have the first ever Fresh Tomatometer score for a video-game adaptation, but one movie doesn t make for an instant rebound for the entire concept. Regardless, Hollywood is still chugging along with its collective plans for video-game movies, and this week, we learned that Mortal Kombat is one of the already attempted (a few times) video game franchises that s coming back. Producer James Wan is on board this attempt at rebooting Mortal Kombat, which is scheduled to start filming in Australia later this year. It s not yet clear which Mortal Kombat games or characters will be adapted for this new movie.  The first Mortal Kombat was Rotten with 46%, and its sequel Annihilation was much lower with just 2%. With Wan on board, the reboot could nudge Fresh territory, but we re waiting to see.1. Can Paramount Take On Marvel With Obscure Atlas Comics Movies? The biggest challenge for any movie studio that s not Disney or Warner Bros. in challenging their superhero movies is that there is only one Marvel Comics, and only one DC Comics. Sure, there are other comic book companies, but none of them are the big two. One company that briefly tried to get into their space in the 1970s was Atlas Comics, formed by Martin Goodman, the original founder of the 1930s company that later became Marvel Comics. Atlas Comics launched with dozens of titles and some notable writers and artists, but they mostly were all cancelled within three or four issues. Paramount Pictures has regardless started an agreement to adapt Atlas Comics titles into superhero movies. The possible movies include such titles as The Cougar, Ironjaw, Tigar-Man, Grim Ghost, and The Hands of the Dragon. We re calling this play by Paramount one of the week s Rotten Ideas just because taking on Marvel and DC seems crazy: Atlas Comics was never going to, and still isn t, ever going to compete with titles like The Avengers, Justice League, or X-Men. But then again, remember when folks thought Iron Man was too obscure to launch a franchise Like this? Dexter fans got a first look at Michael C. Hall as the returning serial killer this week. HBO Max conjures up a new pricing tier that doesn t include the big theatrical premieres of the summer, but does include ads. Updates on the John Wick, Saw, and American Psycho TV series, and more of the week s biggest news in TV and streaming.TOP STORYShowtime Releases New Teaser for Returning Series DexterDexter fans got their first look at America s favorite revived serial killer in a teaser video for the series return released by Showtime. Michael C. Hall revisits his famous role for a new season set for fall. The series ran for eight seasons, concluding in 2013 with a much-maligned final season (it has a 33% score on the Tomatometer, compared to the show s Certified Fresh 96% first season). Many see this revival as a chance at redemption for the character and the series, which also starred Jennifer Carpenter, C.S. Lee, David Zayas, James Remar, Luna Lauren Velez, Desmond Harrington, and Julie Benz.HBO Max’s New Ad-Supported Version Will Offer TV Shows and Movies – Except for Those Same-Day Theatrical Releases – For .99/Month(Photo by Jessica Miglio/©Warner Bros. Entertainment)The good news: if that .99 per month fee has stopped you from signing up for HBO Max and all The Sopranos and Big Bang Theory episodes your heart desires, the streaming service’s new, ad-supported option, which will cost .99 when it launches in June, may make for a more classic TV-packed summer. Even better: though the ads will be sprinkled through the HBO Max specific programming, the service isn’t going to add them to programming that originated on HBO, i.e. Game of Thrones, Sex and the City, The Wire, etc.Now to temper your excitement a bit: that cheaper, ad-supported option of an HBO Max subscription will not include the streamer’s same-day release of theatrical movies. Meaning, when The Suicide Squad hits theaters and .99 ad-free HBO Max on August 6, the .99/month subscribers will be seeing … well, not The Suicide Squad. Not on that day, anyway.WarnerMedia hasn’t announced specifics of how long subscribers to the ad-supported version of HBO Max will have to wait to see new theatrical releases on the service, but in the meantime, you’ll have all those episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Rick and Morty to keep you entertained.Lionsgate TV Boss Talks Upcoming John Wick, Saw, and American Psycho TV Entries(Photo by Lionsgate)Lionsgate Television chairman Kevin Beggs, in an interview with Deadline, talked about the company’s future plans, which includes the John Wick spin-off series The Continental at Starz, which will be a prequel about how the hotel for assassins came to be.He describes the first season as unfolding like three 90-minute events, sort of like a limited series. Ian McShane, the movie’s Continental founder, Winston, won’t appear on screen, though McShane has suggested he might be doing voiceover for the series, which will revolve around a 1970s version of Winston. Keanu Reeves, Beggs says, may sign on as an executive producer of The Continental.Meanwhile, Beggs also confirmed an American Psycho series is in development, and that there are conversations happening about the possibilities of a Saw TV series.NEW TRAILERS: Jean Smart Is a Las Vegas Comedy Superstar in HacksJean Smart stars Hacks as Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas comedian whose manager pairs her with an entitled twentysomething comedy writer (Hannah Einbinder) when Vance’s place on the Strip is threatened by a plan to bring in younger-skewing audiences. Also stars Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, and Rose Abdoo. Premieres May 13. (HBO Max)More trailers and teasers released this week:• Power Book III: Raising Kanan is the second Power spin-off, this one a prequel unfolding the backstory of 50 Cent’s Kanan character. Stars Mekhi Curtis, Omar Epps, and Patina Miller. Premieres July 18. (Starz)• Nine Perfect Strangers is a miniseries starring Nicole Kidman as the director of a wellness retreat that seems to be making its stress-relief seekers, well, more stressed. The drama is based on the book of the same name by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty, and also stars Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Samara Weaving, Regina Hall, Luke Evans, and Bobby Cannavale. Premieres later this year. (Hulu)• Master of None season 3, subtitled Moments in Love, focuses on Denise (Lena Waithe) and her partner Alicia (Naomi Ackie), and the ups and downs of marriage and their struggles with fertility. Series creator Aziz Ansari directs. Premieres May 23. (Netflix)• Domina is the eight-episode miniseries, filmed in Rome, that follows the extraordinary rise of Emperor Augustus Caesar’s third wife, Livia Drusilla (Kasia Smutniak), and all the exploits, affairs, and battles for political clout that surrounded the power couple who sat at the heart of the Roman Empire. Also stars Matthew McNulty, Tom Glynn-Carney, Claire Forlani, and Isabella Rossellini. Premieres June 6. (EPIX)新三国萌将录Anthological true-crime series, reboots of a genre-defining classic, a reality hit starring a bevy of makeover masters, and a DC Comics property getting its due on the small screen are just a few of the seven acclaimed series returning this month. Catch up on all that and more with June 2020’s guide on what’s worth bingeing.    Dirty John 80% (USA Network)What it is: This true-crime anthology series from creator Alexandra Cunningham follows an intense, stranger-than-fiction tale of love gone wrong each season. While the first outing on Bravo from fall 2018 was a screen adaptation of the viral podcast charting the story of Debra Newell and her con artist husband John Meehan, Season 2, titled Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, moves to USA Network to tell the story of Betty Broderick (Amanda Peet), who in 1991 was convicted of murdering her ex-husband Dan (Christian Slater) and his new wife Linda. Why you should watch it: Just like the podcast of its original source material, Dirty John’s first season is the kind of soapy crime drama best enjoyed with your feet up and a glass of wine. Elevating it from tabloid fodder, though, are the performances from Connie Britton as Debra, who was nominated for a Golden Globe, Eric Bana as John, and supporting turns from Juno Temple and Ozark Emmy winner Julia Garner. Season 2 premieres June 2 on USA Network.Where to watch: Amazon, FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, Netflix, VuduCommitment: Approx. 6.5 hours (for the first season)Queer Eye 93% (Netflix)What it is: The early aughts’ boundary-pushing hit reality series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy gets a makeover of its own with this charming, seven-time Emmy-winning reboot on Netflix. Why you should watch it: If any other series captured the world’s collective heart over the last two years like Queer Eye has, we haven’t heard of it. Yes, its main hook lies in the fashionable, fabulous, and heartwarming makeovers the Queer Eye guys give rural American men and women (plus, their half-season trip to Japan), but you’ll stick around for the playful banter and true, deep friendship between the main cast of industry experts. It all packs a surprisingly emotional punch, so stock up on tissues! Season 5 premieres June 5 on Netflix.Where to watch: NetflixCommitment: Approx. 28 hours (for the first four seasons, plus Queer Eye: We re in Japan!)The Chi (Showtime)What it is: You’ve never seen Chicago like this. Created by Master of None Emmy winner and Queen and Slim screenwriter Lena Waithe, this Showtime series portrays the city’s South Side neighborhood as a tapestry of want and need, violence and love, and altogether human when our central heroes (played by Jason Mitchell, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Jacob Latimore, and Alex R. Hibbert) are brought together in unexpected ways after one life- and community-altering event. Why you should watch it: The Chi is an unflinching and authentic coming-of-age drama boasting some of the best actors and writers — well-known and otherwise — working today. In a time when racial violence still devastates minority communities and permeates our headlines, it offers a timely look at some of the social issues being debated today while still being nuanced, character-driven entertainment. The series went on a hiatus after Mitchell was fired for misconduct allegations, but Season 3 will finally premiere June 21 on Showtime.Where to watch: Amazon, FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 20 hours (for the first two seasons)Doom Patrol 97% (HBO Max)What it is: From creator Jeremy Carver and starring Matt Bomer, April Bowlby, Timothy Dalton, Brendan Fraser, Diane Guerrero, and Joivan Wade, this acclaimed DC Comics series follows superpowered outcasts Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl, and Crazy Jane after modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief) brings them together to save the world from one fantastical threat after another. Season 1 aired last year, streaming on DC Universe, but makes the jump to HBO Max as the platform’s inaugural comic book property. Why you should watch it: In the very best way, Carver and his writing room are dedicated to their source materials’ larger-than-life weirdness, violence, and heart and they have a cast that’s down to play along each step of the way. Season 2 premieres June 25 on HBO Max.Where to watch: Amazon, DC Universe, FandangoNow, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 12.5 hours (for the first season)Search Party 96% (HBO Max)What it is: Part relationship drama, part coming-of-age comedy, part noir-tinged mystery thriller, Search Party is undefinable — but that’s what makes it so good. It’s the story of Dory (Alia Shawkat), Drew (John Reynolds), Elliot (John Early), and Portia (Meredith Hagner), who, on account of their own self-interest and general aimlessness, entangle themselves in the potentially sinister disappearance of their college classmate. Why you should watch it: Brooklyn-dwelling millennials have been beguiling subjects for many a film and TV auteur since Lena Dunham’s Girls, but never before have they been so exactingly (and excruciatingly) brought to life than in Sarah-Violet Bliss, Charles Rogers, and Michael Showalter’s incisive satire-crime mystery cocktail. Season 3 premieres June 25 on HBO Max.Where to watch: Amazon, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 8 hours (for the first two seasons)The Twilight Zone 66% (CBS All Access)What it is: Did somebody say a reboot of creator Rod Sterling’s eerie and prescient anthological classic from 1959, now hosted and produced by modern master of horror Jordan Peele (an Oscar winner for Get Out and record-breaker for Us)? All we can say is: Sign us up.Why you should watch it: When it comes to horror series that episodically tackle various social and political matters through a sci-fi and technology-driven lens, Netflix’s Black Mirror has been the buzzy new kid on the block for five seasons strong. But there’s still nothing like the taste of a true original, and with Peele at the helm, this Twilight Zone is in more than capable hands. Season 2 of this beloved reboot premieres June 25 on CBS All Access.Where to watch: CBS All Access, FandangoNOW, Google Play, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 7.5 hours (for the first season)Adventure Time 100% (HBO Max)What it is: And you thought we were done with the land of Ooo. After delivering an unforgettable season finale in 2018, creator Pendleton Ward’s Adventure Time is back for this four-part special on HBO Max, beginning with “BMO.”Why you should watch it: This belovedly off-kilter animated series bursts at the seams with unabashed and untamed surrealist creativity. But at its core, it’s just the story of a 12-old-boy named Finn who goes on adventures with his magical dog named Jake. Binge all 10 seasons of the series in the lead-up to the new specials, the first of which follows our heroic duo’s prescient robot and friend, BMO. Adventure Time: Distant Lands premieres June 25 on HBO Max.Where to watch: Amazon, Google Play, Hulu, Microsoft, VuduCommitment: Approx. 51.5 hours (for all 10 seasons)Thumbnail images by Netflix, Cartoon Network, DC Universe

At 40% on the Tomatometer, Godzilla: King of the Monsters didn t fare so well with critics, who largely felt the kaiju action in the film was spectacular but was too frequently sidelined in favor of a half-baked human story. Fans, on the other hand, felt quite differently, rewarding the giant monster battle royale with an 86% Audience Score. That s a far more impressive number than the 2014 reboot (66%), the Monsterverse follow-up Kong: Skull Island (69%), and even the recent Japan-produced Shin Godzilla (74%) all three of which, we might add, were also Certified Fresh according to the critics. In the wake of its box office-topping opening weekend, we decided to take a look through the user reviews for King of the Monsters to see if we could discover what the cause of this rift was, and the results were somewhat surprising. Generally speaking, while RT users tend to agree with critics about the film s shortcomings, the former are far more forgiving. At the end of the day, fans came to the movie to see Godzilla face off against or team up with some of the franchise s most iconic characters, and they got exactly what they wanted. Check out the user reviews and let us know what you thought of the film, and these reviews, in the comments. (Note, some of the reviews have been slightly edited for length and grammar/spelling.)(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)How Are the Action and Visuals?Hard-to-follow CGI overload. Ro, 2 starsGood action, but under a blue Snapchat filter. Bad plot. Buckshot, 2 starsExcessively silly, but the imagery is often jaw-dropping and honestly, what more do you need from a monster movie? Alec B., 3 starsThis movie is awesome. Truly one of the greatest and most epic kaiju movies ever made. The battle scenes were beautifully shot and gave a large sense of scale. A must-see.– Colton H., 4 StarsKing of the Monsters goes full Avengers in introducing King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan for a full-on monster mash. It s by no means a good film, but it s dumb fun watching the titans clash. Zak, 4 stars(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)What About the Writing?Garbage. Pacific Rim was onto something; these guys didn t take notes. NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE STUPID HUMAN STORIES, FFS. Michael D., 0.5 starsNo plot, no point Just a lot of noise! Mary R., 0.5 starsPoor writing, average acting, cliched characters, terrible dialog. Felt like it was four hours long. Todd, 1 starWanted to love it as a Godzilla fan for almost 50 years, but it lacked drama, had laughable and unlikable human characters. The color palette was dark and generally monochromatic. The attempts at one-liners fell terribly flat. The kaijus deserve much better. Brandon M., 2 starsIt s not one of those films that you go to for the writing, that s for sure! But all in all, the kaiju battles were glorious fun to watch and the performances were decent. A good summer popcorn flick! M00vieCritic W., 3.5 starsThe only thing that would have made the movie any better is if they took out all the human actors. For a longtime Godzilla fan, this film had me smiling ear to ear. I cant stress enough how much i loved this movie! Michael, 5 starsReady for a nerdgasm??? KOTM brings the heat. For all the dyed-in-the-wool fans, this scratched the itch left festering since 2014 s good but underwhelming outing. The plot was cohesive, the human elements tied into what was happening with the monsters, and I was searching for some bad CGI, but couldn t really find any. Go see it. I ll be going back for IMAX. Eric, 5 stars(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)Will It Satisfy Longtime Fans?Classic Godzilla. Loved it! Wish we saw more of the other titans in action, though. A couple slow spots, but very entertaining. Childhood memories came rushing back.  JLW, 3.5 starsAs a fan of Godzilla: Final Wars, I am pretty satisfied. It s a film that is meant to be watched with little seriousness. And I very much enjoyed the callbacks to the original soundtrack.  Hansen W., 4 starsMovie antagonist didn t make a lot of sense, but at the same time, their ridiculousness echoed that of the Heisei era Toho movies. The monster battles are thrilling, though sometimes I wish they didn t cut away so often. Would be nice if there were some day fights but that s okay. This movie is stuck between whether it wants to take itself seriously or not. This problem rests with the characters some are fun and relevant while others are cheesy and trope-riddled. The score is top notch and the resurgence of the original theme is breathtaking. Overall, if you are looking for classic monster action and are a Godzilla fan through and through, you will have a good time. And if you don t like classic monster tropes then idk why you would go watch this movie in the first place. Seth S., 4 starsIt truly did feel like the Godzilla movies I remember watching as a youngster, except with better visual effects and better acting. The monster action was intense and the visuals were breathtaking. A must-see for every fan of the franchise or anyone wanting to see a good sci-fi/monster movie! Levi, 5 starsAbsolute love letter to the Toho films, full of easter eggs, fan service, and giant monster fights. Easily in my top 5 Godzilla movies (from the U.S. or Japan). Mike S., 5 stars(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)Does It Live Up to the Hype?It takes a very accomplished pen to walk this improbability-act of a tightrope balance. This ain t it. Gerald H., 2 starsExactly what Godzilla fans want. Some really cheesy dialogue aside, I couldn t ask for anything better. Critics are just flat out wrong about this movie. GO SEE IT! Adam H., 4.5 starsAMAZIIIIIING!!! Godzilla 2014 was a better Hollywood film, but this was a better GODZILLA movie!! Great job! Looking forward to Godzilla vs. Kong!!! Khris C., 5 starsCheck out all of the user reviews for Godzilla: King of the Monsters so far. Like this? Subscribe to our newsletter and get more features, news, and guides in your inbox every week.

o the MCU. And as Feige put it at the 2019 D23 Expo, “You will meet her in her Disney+ series and see her in our films,” a commitment to what Ms. Marvel fans have wanted for ages. At the same time Bisha K. Ali was revealed as the series showrunner. In September of 2020, Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, documentary short Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon emerged as the list of directors for the program. Shortly there after, Iman Vellani won the starring role of Kamala Khan. In February of 2021, Laurel Marsden reportedly joined the cast, which includes Vellani, Rish Shah, Mohan Kapur, Zenobia Shroff, Yasmeen Fletcher, Saagar Shaikh, and Matt Lintz. Production wrapped in early May. Despite Feige claiming the series would stream in late 2021, it is unclear if the program will debut immediately after Hawkeye in late December or start just after the New Year. How It Fits in the MCU: The series will reportedly feature some Inhumans besides Kamala, suggesting Marvel Studios will attempt to revive the concept after Marvel Television’s Inhumans seemingly poisoned the well. Also, Feige’s promise that Kamala will appear in films following her debut leaves us wondering if there will be some sort of Young Avengers type film by 2025. In the meantime, Vellani will appear in The Marvels alongside WandaVision’s Teyonah Parris.Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness(Photo by © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, © Marvel Studios)Release Date: March 25, 2022What We Know: Director Scott Derrickson finally signed on to return in December of 2018, but his involvement with the film ended in early January of 2019 when he departed the production, citing “creative differences.” His replacement is Spider-Man and The Evil Dead’s Sam Raimi, making a return of sorts to the Marvel universe. Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the Sorcerer Supreme with Elizabeth Olsen joining him as the Scarlet Witch in what Derrickson originally called the first scary MCU movie  though some believe Marvel’s unease with that mission statement led to his departure. Raimi’s bonafides as a horror director suggest the film may still have some scares, but the script is being reworked by Loki head writer Michael Waldron and may yet conform to the Marvel house style. As teased at the end of the first film, Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) will return, as will Rachel McAdams and Benedict Wong. The film, which is still a ways from beginning production, is now set for release in March 2022 following multiple changes to Marvel Studios schedule. At the December 2020 Disney Investor Day presentation, Feige confirmed Xochitl Gomez will play Young Avengers favorite America Chavez. Production wrapped in mid-April. In May, writer Michael Waldron told Vanity Fair he wrote the script “from scratch” following Derrickson’s departure. In June, he added that film will lean into a “scarier direction,” even though he also mentioned it is not a horror film. How It Fits in the MCU: The addition of America Chavez all but confirms reality-hopping will matter greatly in the coming years – that ability is a key part of her skill set. The events of Loki and WandaVision (to say nothing of what’s teased in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer) also suggest Strange will discover the real enemy lurking in the Multiverse as he deals with both Wanda’s actions and his own. Those who saw the fourth episode of What If…? may even wonder if that enemy is Doctor Strange.Thor: Love And Thunder(Photo by © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, © Marvel Studios)Release Date: May 6, 2022What We Know: Shortly before Comic-Con 2019, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi signed on to return for a fourth installment in the God of Thunder franchise. Chris Hemsworth will return as the wandering Odinson but not necessarily as Thor. In a surprise move, Marvel revealed Natalie Portman is returning to the series as the new Mighty Thor, a twist pulled from an excellent Thor comic book series by Jason Aaron, Russell Dauterman, and others. Meanwhile, Tessa Thompson will return as Valkyrie, the king of New Asgard who must find a Queen, and we assume Loki (Tom Hiddleston) – in either of his manifestations – will return to mercilessly tease his now nameless brother. As 2020 began, Christian Bale emerged as a potential new member of the cast – Marvel subsequently confirmed he will play the main antagonist, Gorr the God Butcher. In February that year, Someone Great filmmaker Jennifer Kaytin Robinson reportedly joined Waititi as a co-writer. That March, Vin Diesel revealed the Guardians of the Galaxy will make some sort of appearance – which we’ve always assumed would be the case – but the addition of Chris Pratt to the cast, announced in November of 2020, confirmed the Guardians will be along for the ride. Production began in early 2021 with all manner of Guardians characters reportedly spotted on set and Jaimie Alexander said to be returning as Lady Sif, who must have been away from Asgard during the events of Ragnarok. In April of 2021, Russell Crowe seemingly confirmed he is playing Olympian god Zeus during a radio call-in show. In June of 2021, Chris Hemsworth took to Instagram to share a photo of himself and Taika Waititi, in costume and on set, to announce that filming had officially wrapped on Love and Thunder. How It Fits in the MCU: Now that we know where Loki is in his own series, it remains to be seen if he’ll even be able to take part in the film. Nevertheless, it is possible the Multiverse will make its presence known even if the former God of Mischief is missing for the first time in the Thor film series. Also, as the film will predate Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, you can expect Rocket (Bradley Cooper) to offer a tearful goodbye as Odinson leaves the group to deal with his loss of name and status.PHASE 5 AND BEYONDDuring the 2019 Comic-Con presentation, Kevin Feige made a few strategic teases about Phase 5, which was set to begin after the release of Love and Thunder. MCU Phases are not set in stone, though – and can even be changed after the fact – so a 2021 teaser of upcoming Marvel Studios films appeared to move the change of phase to 2023. For the moment, though, we’re going to keep the following projects as Phase 5 until Feige appears on stage with an updated calendar. Also, not everything is officially on the release schedule, but we have our guesses as to when some of the features will be released – check them out below.She-Hulk (series)(Photo by © Marvel Studios, © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)Premiere Date: 2022What We Think Might Happen: According to Feige, “Bruce Banner is no longer the only Hulk in the MCU.” Based on fan favorite She-Hulk, the Disney+ series will focus on Bruce’s cousin Jennifer Walters. As the Marvel chief put it, “She’s a Hulk and she’s a lawyer.” Fans of a 2014 run by Charles Soule and Javier Pulido hope some of its irreverent tone and legal action will filter its way into the series. Though She-Hulk was the last series announced at the 2019 D23 Expo, it also became one of the quickest to come together with head writer Jessica Gao – a Rick Morty veteran whose appointment suggests the series will be more comedic – director Cat Coiro, and star Tatiana Maslany, who joined the series in September of 2020, signing on. At the December 2020 Disney Investor Day Presentation, Feige confirmed Maslany as the star, and announced Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth will appear as The Hulk and The Abomination, respectively. Also, when referencing Jen’s day job, Feige said, “you never know what Marvel characters are going to up” in the courtroom, leaving many to speculate what it means for Marvel’s other well-known superhero lawyer. A.P. Bio veteran Anu Valia will also direct episodes. In January of 2021, Ginger Gonzaga reportedly joined the cast as Jennifer’s unnamed best friend. Considering that role is typically filled by Marvel Comics character Patsy Walker – a.k.a. Hellcat – it is possible She-Hulk will offer the first concrete change from the old Marvel Television programs. On Jessica Jones, Patsy was better known as Trish and played by Rachael Taylor. In April, Renée Elise Goldsberry joined the program as a character reportedly called “Amelia.  “In June, Jameela Jamil reportedly joined the series as Titania, a super-strong woman who has tussled with Jennifer in the comics from time to time. How It Fits in the MCU: Besides Jennifer’s familial relationship to Bruce, she’s been known to take on well-known Marvel characters as clients and even tussle with Daredevil in court. In fact, depending on the timing of the She-Hulk TV series, Matt Murdoch could make his return to the MCU within the series. Also, we imagine the series will address why Bruce isn’t hulked out in the Shang-Chi mid-credit stinger.Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Debbie DayComic-Con International: San Diego is very much a convention about television. That evolution is hardly surprising with the similarities the format shares with comic books. Both allow their audiences to grow intimately attached to characters over a long timespan. Both reveal their stories in installments, utilizing a certain pace within episodes (or issues) and a larger construction of momentum across a season (or story arc). And in 2019, television — particularly of the kind based on comic books —dominates the programming schedule with The CW’s superhero offerings taking over Ballroom 20 for most of Saturday and shows like The Walking Dead and Riverdale commanding Hall H-sized crowds. Additionally, HBO is setting up a Watchmen experience at the Petco Park Home Plate Gate (and at the parking lot on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Island Avenue) to promote their upcoming quasi-sequel to the landmark miniseries by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, and John Higgins. Trying to see all of the Comics on TV style programming may be impossible, but we imagine the most hard-core Comic-Con aficionados (and some of us contractually-obligated media types) are willing to try. With that in mind, join us as we take a look at all the panels highlighting Comics on TV at Comic-Con. It may help you choose your priorities.WednesdayWarner Bros. Television always brings a few sneak peeks to preview night. This year, Batwoman and Pennyworth are the notable premieres with a new episode of The 100 and a to-be-determined Rooster Teeth presentation rounding out the evening. If you’re done early with the exclusives hunting, it may be worth heading upstairs and talking a look.ThursdayTeen Titans GO! New Episode Premiere and Q A (Room 6DE, 3:15 p.m.)The first full day of Comic-Con gets its Comics on TV content rolling with a new episode of Teen Titans GO! The animated shorts are somewhat divisive with fans of the older Teen Titans unimpressed with GO!’s anarchic comedy and format. Nonetheless, fun can be had as members of the voice cast and the crew will be on hand to debut the new episode. Expect some of the voice actors to switch into their roles during the Q A. It is traditional, after all.Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Hall H, 3:30 p.m.)Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. survived bouncing around the schedule, a cancellation scare, and the Snap to make their way to Hall H this year. They definitely earned it as Season 6 has been its strongest year yet. Cast members Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, and Jeff Ward – and executive producers Maurissa Tancharoen, Jed Whedon, Jeff Bell, and Jeph Loeb – will be on hand to discuss alien psychoactive substances, the mystery of Sarge, and the Planet Kitson. They will also tease some events to come in Season 7.Stumptown (Indigo Ballroom, 4:15 p.m.)Based on the comic book series by Greg Rucka, Matthew Southworth, and Justin Greenwood, the new ABC series focuses on Dex Parios, a sharp-witted Army veteran who takes up private investigations to pay off her gambling debts. She also looks out for her brother while solving cases and avoiding trouble. Star Cobie Smulders, along with co-stars Jake Johnson, Michael Ealy, Camryn Manheim, Tantoo Cardinal, Cole Sibus, Adrian Martinez, executive producer Jason Richman, and Rucka will introduce audiences to the TV version of Dex and the Portland, Oregon criminal underworld she knows far too well for her

We’re just going to say it: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse might just be the most Easter Egg–stuffed superhero movie of the year, what with the multiple alternate universes and whatnot. There are deep comic-book cuts, blink-and-you’ll-miss-them nods to Spider-Man movies of the past, and SO MANY pop-culture references. With so many hidden gems to uncover, we enlisted some help for this very special episode of Easter Eggs – none other than Spider-Verse stars Shameik Moore (Miles Morales) and Jake Johnson (Peter B. Parker) – to ensure nothing escaped our egg-catching web. But if it did, do let us know in the comments.

新三国萌将录 诚言,这款游戏的画面以及轮回式不断重构的赛季社交机制确实担得起手游顶尖大旗,但其余的部分都确实乏善可陈,难以让玩家满意签收,也就更不用说差异化的游戏体验了。

Toy Story 4. Bring on Bill Ted Face the Music. Adam DriverDriver showed why he s one of the most in-demand stars of the day, pulling off an emotional turnaround in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywaker as well as awards-worthy work in The Report and Marriage Story. He somehow made time to fight zombies, too, in The Dead Don t Die.Robert PattinsonPattinson continued his indie streak, first in Claire Denis s mind-bending space thriller, High Life, and then in Robert Eggers rain-soaked two-hander, The Lighthouse. His hilarious turn as the dauphin in The King was only upstaged by the announcement he would be the next Batman.Scarlett JohanssonIf it wasn t enough that Johansson earned two Oscar nominations this year – Best Supporting Actress for Jojo Rabbit and Best Actress for Marriage Story – she also played a pivotal role in the biggest movie of the year, and all time, Avengers: Endgame.Bong Joon HoKorean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho pulled off what no one before him ever had: winning the Oscar for Best Picture with a foreign-language movie. That film, Parasite, made more than 0 million worldwide, win four Oscars total (along with the Palme d Or), and made Bong a household name in the U.S.« Previous Category Next Category » The Holiday Movie Season is here (hooray!), and it s not off to a good start (boo!). But save your panic, because this is still the season when The Rise of Skywalker, Frozen II, and a new Jumanji are going to make about a billion-and-a-half alone domestically. This weekend, despite four new releases, gives us a Top Ten that isn t even going to cross 0 million. Three of those releases weren t expected to set the box office on fire, but the numbers that the new Terminator film put up is likely to make Paramount a little nervous as they stare down their second big-budget sci-fi misfire in a row.King of the Crop: Terminator: Dark Fate is Tops, but the Bar is Low(Photo by Paramount Pictures)The Terminator series has, without question, been waning in popularity over the years. James Cameron and Linda Hamilton left after the second film. Arnold Schwarzenegger left after the third. The global sensation that was Terminator 2: Judgment Day remains one of the great action films of all-time. 12 years later, Arnold gave it another spin with Rise of the Machines, which opened to a healthy million and grossed over 0 million domestically. (T2 would amount to about 6 million in ticket sales today.) The reboot of Terminator: Salvation in 2009 with Christian Bale and Sam Worthington opened to .5 million and finished with 5 million. Then, in 2015, Terminator: Genisys opened to .1 million from Weds-to-Fri or million from Fri-to-Sun and then failed to reach million stateside. Now, 35 years after Cameron’s The Terminator premiered and four years since Cameron endorsed Genisys as the “real” Terminator 3, we now have Terminator: Dark Fate being sold to audiences as the “real” Terminator 3. And audiences are not buying. A million opening is well below the low-40s projections we’ve been hearing for weeks, and it comes out to only a ,097 per-theater-average. (T3 T4 were each over ,000.) Critically, the film is holding steady at 69% on the Tomatometer (the same number for the real “real” Terminator 3; the last positively-scored film in the series.) But nobody at Paramount can be thrilled with the dollar figure, given a 5 million budget, especially coming right after the failure of Ang Lee’s Gemini Man, which has grossed just 5 million worldwide to date on a 8 million budget.Consider that only four films have ever opened in November to a PTA under ,500 and grossed over 0 million, and all four were animated – The Polar Express (2.77 million), Bolt (4.05), The Princess and the Frog (4.04), and Rise of the Guardians (3.41). That is bad news for a film that is in the same boat as Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and needs over a half-billion dollars before we come even close to talking profit. Disney’s film only just crossed 0 million worldwide on Thursday. Genisys, the highest-grossing international Terminator to date, made 0 million and squeaked out a tiny profit. But Dark Fate may be living up to its name as it has grossed just million total overseas so far.Fresh Surprise: Focus Features Earns Another Solid Debut with HarrietRyan FujitaniSpeaking of per-theater averages, Focus Features is having a bit of a moment. Downton Abbey has grossed over million and has become their highest-grossing domestic title ever. This weekend, Kasi Lemmons’ Harriet opened to million and notches another top ten finish in Focus’ record books. While not a giant number, Harriet’s ,828 per-theater-average is the sixth best ever for Focus when they launch a film in over 2,000 theaters. It ranks behind The Strangers, Insidious: Chapter 3, Coraline, Burn After Reading, and London Has Fallen, and is now ahead of Atomic Blonde, The Forest, and The Boxtrolls. A pair of Jet Li films (Unleashed and Fearless) represent the low bar of Focus’ films opening to million or higher, as each grossed .53 and .63 million, respectively. The Forest is their only release to open over million and fail to gross at least million.Rotten Returns: Motherless Brooklyn and Arctic Dogs Flop Spectacularly(Photo by Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures)The two remaining new releases are downright Goldfinchian. Edward Norton’s Motherless Brooklyn, also released by Warner Bros., cost million and grossed just .6 million. That is just a ,682 per-theater-average in 1,342 venues. That is comparable to STX’s The Best of Enemies from April, which had a ,608 average in 1,705 theaters and finished with just .2 million. Norton said that he cashed in every favor in Hollywood to get this film made, so there may be a lot of Italian Jobs in his future. Then on the animated front, Missing Link can rest easy that it no longer has the weakest opening of the year. That now belongs to the -million budgeted Arctic Dogs from Entertainment Studios. Its .1 million start is the lowest for an animated film released in over 2,000 theaters since Disney’s Teacher’s Pet (.46 million) back in 2004. That start is also the lowest ever for one released in over 3,000 theaters, replacing 2015’s Strange Magic, which opened to .5 million and finished with just .4 million. Arctic Dogs is now destined to join a list of animated films in 2,000+ theaters to gross less than million that includes Ratchet Clank, Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return, Rock Dog, Doogal, The Wild Life, Early Man, and Teacher’s Pet.The Top 10 And Beyond: Joker and Maleficent Hang on to Second and Third(Photo by Niko Tavernise/© 2019 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.)Joker fell back to second place this week and is now just shy of 0 million domestic. It has become the 59th film in history to cross the 0 million line and is approaching the list of the 50 highest-grossing films of all time. At 9 million, Joker is ahead of where DC’s Suicide Squad was on Day 31 (7.32 million) and beat its fifth weekend .90-to-.91 million. That should fill in at least another -30 million as Todd Phillips film is headed past 5 million. At 4 million worldwide, even without another international dollar, Joker is going to join this list of the Top 50 grossers of all-time.The aforementioned Maleficent: Mistress of Evil earned another .1 million this weekend for a total of million domestic. That may be the 15th best total for an October release after 17 days and the 14th best third weekend, but it is still well in the red. It has a chance to reach 0 million domestic but even with another 8 million worldwide (which it has now) it is still about 0 million away from talking profit. United Artists Releasing’s The Addams Family, however, is headed exactly there. With another .4 million, the movie has passed 0 million globally and it is all IHOP gravy from there.Neon continues to make the most out of Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite (Certified Fresh at 99%). They expanded the film into 461 theaters and it grossed .6 million. That puts it in the vicinity of The Favourite, which moved into 441 theaters in weekend four and grossed .605 million, as well as Birdman, which was in 460 theaters and made .31 million. Both films from Fox Searchlight went on to become Best Picture nominees and grossed .36 and .34 million, respectively. Parasite’s total stands at .5 million.(Photo by Fox Searchlight Pictures)Speaking of which, the Fox specialty division now under Disney has Jojo Rabbit. Taika Waititi’s film was expanded in 256 theaters this weekend and grossed .4 million. That is also in the vicinity of Birdman’s third weekend (.39 million in 231 theaters) but also a little behind Searchlight’s (500) Days of Summer (.77 million in 266 theaters) and A24’s Lady Bird (.51 million in 244 theaters.) Those three films grossed between -49 million with a pair bolstered by their Oscar campaign. Still, if they can keep up interest and get the film to around million, that will be a solid victory. Its total is currently .2 million. Finally there is The Lighthouse (Certified Fresh at 92%) which A24 expanded again into 978 theaters, but fell back from last week’s Top Ten gross of .02 million back to million. That’s a gross on par with 2017’s The Beguiled (.06 million in 941 theaters) just as it was last week suggesting a final total around that film’s .7 million is in the cards for Robert Eggers’ follow-up to The Witch. This Time Last Year: Bohemian Rhapsody Destroys the CompetitionThree new films led the box office but only one turned into a phenomenon. Bohemian Rhapsody began its run towards the Oscars and history with a million opening, more than the next three films combined. They included the Disney bust, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (.35 million), Tyler Perry’s Nobody’s Fool (.74 million) and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born ( million) which passed 5 million this weekend. David Gordon Green’s Halloween also passed 0 million in fifth place. The biggest per-theater-average of the week went to Joel Edgerton’s Boy Erased (,411 in 5 theaters). The Top Ten films grossed 9.38 million and averaged 57.2% on the Tomatometer, while this year’s Top Ten grossed an estimated .3 Million and averaged 51.5% with critics. On the Vine: Heeeere s Ewan! The Holiday Movie Season is undeniably frontloaded this year, with everyone trying to get their piece of the pie before Frozen II and The Rise of Skywalker dominate. The favorite going into next week is Mike Flanagan’s two-and-a-half-hour adaptation of Stephen King’s sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, with Ewan McGregor. Roland Emmerich is back to blow things up with a real-life war story in Midway. For the romance fans out there, Paul Feig is teaming up Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding in Last Christmas and for families looking for an amuse-bouche before Anna Elsa, John Cena plays a babysitting fireman in Playing with Fire. Also in limited release is Shia LaBeouf’s acclaimed autobiographical story of his relationship with his troubled father in Honey Boy.The Full Top 10: November 1-3Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) 70% – million ( million total)Joker (2019) 68% – .9 million (9.6 million total)Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019) 39% – .18 million (.3 million total)Harriet (2019) 73% – million ( million total)The Addams Family (2019) 45% – .5 million (.3 million total)Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) 68% – .35 million (.3 million total)Countdown (2019) 26% – .85 million (.77 million total)Black and Blue (2019) 52% – .1 million (.44 million total)Motherless Brooklyn (2019) 64% – .65 million (.65 million total)Arctic Dogs (2019) 12% – .1 million (.1 million total)

Starting with two brothers, a beloved Chevy Impala, and some demon-hunting equipment, Supernatural defied the odds to become one of the longest-running primetime shows in television history. It is also one of the few genre shows to break the tenth season mark, joining the classic Doctor Who in a very rarefied club of long, continuous production runs. When Rotten Tomatoes spoke with the cast and producers during a celebration of the program’s 300th episode, they all credited its longevity to two factors: first, stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, and second, the on-set family dynamic that now includes a large stable of recurring characters and eventual co-leads like Misha Collins.“I think that my favorite [aspect] is the growing family dynamic of the show where the core cast, which used to be just Sam and Dean, has really become a legitimate group of people who very much love each other and care about each other,” said executive producer Brad Buckner. That family feel was on display in the 300th episode, which aired last month, but it left us wondering where the show can go now. Have the Winchesters driven every highway, rural route, private drive, parkway and surface street in their never-ending relationship with forces beyond imaging? The CW doesn’t think so, considering the network has already renewed the program for a historic 15th season. But let’s take a look at some directions Supernatural could go next.Alien Invasion(Photo by Mars Attacks!: ©Warner Bros./Courtesy Everett Collection; Supernatural: Dean Buscher/The CW)To be sure, this is a pie-in-the-sky idea considering creator Eric Kripke s stated rule that aliens do not exist in the Supernatural universe. Over the years, the show has poked fun at its slight similarities to The X-Files via a handful of episodes in which aliens turn out to be fairies or frauds. It is a completely understandable decision as the show is literally called Supernatural. You really don’t expect to see E.T. or grey aliens plotting with Rowena (Ruth Connell) or Alternate Michael (various actors including Ackles). But now that the image is in your mind, consider this little thought experiment: What if they suddenly arrived and defied everyone’s assumption that they were not real. What if the angels and demons had no knowledge of them and could not account for their existence? Suddenly, the assumed political paradigm of the cosmos is upended because God never mentioned that he created other life in the universe. Alliances would have to be made, as well.It leads to plenty of questions. Are the aliens bound by the same rules of engagement? Do they have their own versions of angels and demons to contend with? Are there alien equivalents of Heaven and Hell? In which case, does each sentient alien race have one of its own and why would God make things so complicated? For the boys, it would start with disbelief and, no doubt, an eventual alliance with at least one extraterrestrial. Similarly, their adversaries would be looking for the angle immediately. And that s before the show even thinks to introduce a second alien species. But on a larger scale, it would be interesting to see all of these impossibly old spirits lose their sense of security because a completely unknown element is in orbit above the Earth.Yeah, it’s a reach, but it would be a funny one.A Return to the Road(Photo by Sergei Bachlakov/The CW)Since season 8, the Winchesters have had a place to call home within the bunker formerly used by the Men of Letters. It offers them a respite from their investigations even if it comes under attack from within and without all the time. But when it was first introduced, it was meant to change one key element of the show: Sam and Dean’s eternal journey across the country solving weird events. Six years later, it feels like the boys could lose the bunker and roam around essentially homeless. The material to write that story is there and, really, losing the sense of security the Bunker offers would be a huge shock to their systems — even more shocking than Sam or Dean getting possessed again. And since it seems neither brother will ever have any semblance of a domestic life, removing their sense of home would reinforce that they are riding or dying together. This could go to the extreme of removing Castiel, Mary (Samantha Smith), and Jack (Alexander Calvert) — which would be a shocking turn at this point – but even if the five of them are forced to move from town to town, it could alter the program’s dynamic in unexpected and interesting ways.Monsters of Myth(Photo by Michael Muller/The CW)There was a time, 14 years ago, when the show was about Sam and Dean following up on urban legends and mythical creature sightings. Their dealings with Lucifer and the political structure of Heaven appeared later (even if it was seeded from the start). What if, suddenly, the forces of Heaven and Hell were gone? In the absence of demons and angels, wendigos, fairy folk, will-o -the-wisps, jiangshi, and other creatures could try to hold sway upon the Earth. One imagines they would try to fill the power vacuum left by the departed angels and demons. It would reframe Sam and Dean’s mission and, possibly, create an end point for their fight as they clear away all of the supernatural creatures. Of course, they would be faced with the existential reality that evil can originate in humans without any supernatural source, but then it would be a different show.Maybe that’s the Supernatural spin-off The CW would actually pick up to series. The Road No One Will Take(Photo by Dean Buscher/The CW)There is definitely one version of the show producers say they will never try to do: one in which either Sam or Dean is gone permanently.“The heart and soul of this show is really the relationship with the brothers,” executive producer Robert Singer told Rotten Tomatoes. “They just deliver and their personal relationship is so close. That really comes through on screen. I ve actually done shows where the two actors weren t quite as fond of each other, and I think that shows up on screen. But these guys are great and they just live in these characters and so it s easy for us to write for them.”Singer and Buckner both agreed that losing one of their leads would mean to end the show.As it happens, Supernatural even offered its own example of what the show would look like with a Winchester brother absent: The survivor leaves the life and settles down. Now, we would love to see Ackles in show where he is a retired hero trying to adjust to the humdrum suburban world, but we wouldn t want that show to be an AfterSupernatural style spin-off or, worse, a Padalecki-less season 16.Nonetheless, Supernatural keeps finding ways to keep its flame alive. It bends the Winchesters into impossible shapes, ports them over to alternate realities, and even reunites them with long-lost family. It also keeps the politics of the Heavens strange and compelling. Maybe that s enough fuel to get the Impala to season 20.Supernatural airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.

新三国萌将录 It is rare that the box office has an upset of the magnitude of this weekend s. It s even rarer that such a surprise victory does not come with the normal spoils one might expect from it. All the projections showed the adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep leading the pack with a haul in the mid-20s to as much as million. Roland Emmerich’s WWII FX-laden updating of Midway was trailing even behind Last Christmas among most projections. Nevertheless, Midway bucked the odds – or the typically wrong tracking services – and pulled out a victory with .5 million, albeit one that is the lowest-grossing number 1 in November since 2012 when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 – in its third weekend and in the doldrum weekend post-Thanksgiving – grossed .4 million.King of the Crop: Midway Causes Major Upset, But Faces A Battle to Profit(Photo by © Lionsgate)Midway s surprising victory at the box office does come with some caveats. Aside from the Twilight statistic noted above, Midway’s .5 million is the lowest opening weekend for Roland Emmerich since Stargate in 1994 (.6 million) and it seems unlikely to stretch to .5 million as that film did. (Though if this weekend taught us anything, it s that we should prepare for surprises.) That would then make it Emmerich’s lowest-grossing wide release since 1992’s Universal Soldier made .2 million. It will gross more than that but in the history of November only two wide releases – not rated “G” or “PG” – have ever opened to less than million and grossed over million. They were Martin Scorsese’s Cape Fear (.09 million) and A Bad Moms Christmas (.11 million).Lionsgate can surely promote Midway as “the number 1 film in the country” this week but it is still staring down a 0 million price tag with not a lot of international appeal for its American victory tale. Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor grossed 0 million in international dollars. Lionsgate has only had nine films make as much as 0 million overseas: four were Hunger Games films and one was the final Twilight film. (The other four Twilights were released by Summit before Lionsgate acquired them.)Rotten Returns: Dark Fate indeed, for Terminator, but its Tomatometer score is rising (Photo by © Paramount Pictures)Paramount is not having the greatest of weeks. Their family film, Playing With Fire, is the worst-reviewed (24% on the Tomatometer) of the new releases this week; the nearly million-budgeted film grossed .8 million, which is hardly a disaster – and better than some projections – but not a rousing success, either. It is last week’s release of Terminator: Dark Fate, though, that is just not looking good; it dropped 63% to .8 million in its second week. A solid haul is not unheard of from here: Dark Fate is just a million behind Paramount s own Daddy’s Home 2’s 10-day gross (.21 million) just two years ago as it went on to squeak out over 4 million. But its second weekend is over .5 million less than what the Farrell/Wahlberg sequel earned in its second weekend. Dark Fate is also about a half-million ahead of The Muppets, which had a massive fallback in its second weekend back in 2011 and grossed over million. Terminator’s second weekend is also slightly behind that one (.08 million). However, an optimistic million finish means nothing without a stronger international showing and to date it sits at just 0 million when it is going to need more than 0 million outside the U.S. to break even. On the plus side, Dark Fate is one of those rare films whose Tomatometer score is actually getting better as it expands and more critics see it: it is currently Fresh at 72% after spending time in the 60s.The Top 10 And Beyond: Doctor Sleep Fails to Shine, Joker Enters The All-Time Top 50Doctor Sleep this week became the victim of too-lofty expectations. The numbers are truly disappointing though, which has pundits asking if Warner Bros. should have sold its connections to The Shining more forcefully – and whether there was an appetite for more Shining in the first place. Only four Stephen King adaptations have ever opened to over million – and two of them were this year with It: Chapter 2 and the Pet Sematary redux. (1408 and the first It were the others.) Inflation notwithstanding, Doctor Sleep had the 10th best opening for a King adaptation and at 73% on the Tomatometer ranks as the 11th best-reviewed theatrical release of a film based on the author s work.1980’s The Shining grossed approximately 9.5 million in adjusted dollars. Doctor Sleep’s .1 million start trails behind even Dreamcatcher, which opened to .02 million back in 2003. If you gave The Lawnmower Man an inflation boost from 1992, it would have grossed million today, right around what Mike Flanagan’s Ouija: Origin of Evil sequel opened to (.06 million) – though we should note that was 10 days before Halloween in 2016. The trouble for Doctor Sleep might have been with the release date. Horror is not a popular genre in November these days. Not a single horror film has grossed over million from a November start since before 2000. The Mist, a 2007 Stephen King adaptation released over Thanksgiving (and the 12th-highest–rated King adaptation at 72% on the Tomatometer) took in what equates to about million in ticket sales today on its first weekend. Also not a great genre in November: romantic comedies. At least, successful November rom-com releases have been pretty sparse. There have been some moderate numbers over the years for films like The American President (.07 million) and Love Actually (.69 million). Shallow Hal grossed .8 million, but that was sold more on its high-concept premise than as a traditional rom-com. Paul Feig’s Last Christmas began with .6 million this weekend. That puts the film likely in the - million range. As for those who are surprised Universal put out a Christmas movie in November, rather than December, it s not uncommon practice – and has worked well for some releases in the past. These November releases with Christmas in the title show the release strategy can succeed wonderfully, and fail spectacularly:How the Grinch Stole Christmas (.08 million opening / 0.04 million total)A Christmas Carol (2009) (.05 / 7.85)Four Christmases (.06 / 0.14)Christmas with the Kranks (.57 / .78)A Bad Moms Christmas (.75 / .1)This Christmas (.95 / .12)Arthur Christmas (.06 / .46)Almost Christmas (.13 / .15)A Very Harold Kumar 3-D Christmas (.95 / .06)Ernest Saves Christmas (.71 / .2)A Christmas Story (.07 / .29)All I Want For Christmas (.64 / .81)One Magic Christmas (.66 / .67)I’ll Be Home For Christmas (.89 / .21)The Man Who Invented Christmas (.35 / .52)In better news for Warner Bros. this week, Todd Phillips’ Joker has passed more milestones. Its 3 million domestic and another 0 million internationally gives the film 4 million. That means it has now joined the list of the 50 highest-grossing films of all-time. Say goodbye to Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (and say it soon to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Jungle Book once Frozen II and The Rise of Skywalker open) as Joker enters the list this weekend at 44th place; it is also headed soon to become the 44th film ever to reach billion.Maleficent: Mistress of Evil has had a bit of a rebound lately.
