梦幻诛仙天音采用百度引擎6（Baidu 4）ceeded at making horror meta in a mainstream way. The Scream reboot (also sometimes called Scream 5) looks like it might finally happen with this week s news that the project has gone to the team behind last year s Hide and Seek horror film, Ready or Not (Certified Fresh at 88%). The Scream reboot will be directed by the same co-directors from a screenplay by Chad Villella, who executive produced Ready or Not.2. ALL MOVIES FROM THE NEXT THREE WEEKS DELAYED, INCLUDING A QUIET PLACE PART II (Photo by Paramount Pictures)Movie release dates change all the time, but the COVID-19 coronavirus is having such an impact that as of this writing, there are exactly zero movies scheduled for wide release in the next three weeks (3/20, 3/27, and 4/3). After today, the next wide release (unless it also moves) will be Trolls World Tour on April 10. So, how did we get to that huge gap in the schedule? The biggest film to move was A Quiet Place Part II, which was pulled from its release next Friday (3/20/2020) to be rescheduled at a later date. You can read director John Krasinski s statement about the movie on Twitter right here. Incidentally, this delay came soon after John Krasinski revealed that he already has ideas for A Quiet Place Part III, so he might now have more time to work on that third film. Paramount also pulled The Lovebirds from April 3rd, and STXfilms moved My Spy (after many other release date shifts) from today to April 17th. The Jackass-style comedy Bad Trip was also pushed back from April 10th to April 17th. One movie that was pushed back out of this range that actually does have a release date now is Peter Rabbit 2: The Runway, which got moved from its Easter-friendly April 3rd release date to August 7, 2020 (it s not like Peter Rabbit is the Easter Bunny, though many make that mistake).3. DISNEY POSTPONES MULAN, THE NEW MUTANTS, AND HORROR FILM ANTLERS(Photo by Walt Disney Studios)One of the films that was arguably hardest hit by delays caused by Disney s acquisition of 20th Century Fox last year was the Marvel Comics movie The New Mutants, which was originally scheduled for release on April 13, 2018. The long wait for The New Mutants seemed to finally be over as we entered this week, and Disney continued to promote the film s April 3, 2020 release, including this nifty teaser that shows off Magik as played by Anya Taylor-Joy (Emma, The Witch). The beginning of promotion for The New Mutants also included director Josh Boone revealing that the sequel would have been called New Mutants: Brazil and would have introduced Antonio Banderas as Sunspot s dad. That was, unfortunately, soon followed by more bad news for The New Mutants, yet again, as Disney has pulled three films from their March and April release dates: Mulan (was 3/27/2020), The New Mutants (was 4/3/2020), and Antlers (was 4/17/2020). Disney said in a statement that, We truly believe in the moviegoing experience, and we are looking at new potential 2020 release dates to be announced at a later date. 4. DISNEY CASTS ITS PETER PAN WENDY (Photo by Dee Cercone/Everett Collection)As you ll read below, filming on several Disney projects has been suspended, and one of them was Peter Pan Wendy, Disney s live-action remake of the 1953 animated classic Peter Pan. That was actually the second time that Peter Pan Wendy made the news this week, because just two days earlier, Disney announced who was playing the two leads. The role of Peter went to 12-year-old relative newcomer Alexander Molony, who to date has mostly appeared in TV shows like Claude and The Reluctant Landlord. The role of Wendy will be played by Ever Anderson, who, by birth, has perhaps a little more inherent fame, because her parents are actress Milla Jovovich and director Paul W.S. Anderson, who frequently directs Jovovich in video game adaptations like the Resident Evil franchise and the upcoming Monster Hunter (9/4/2020). Ever Anderson made her film debut playing a younger version of her mom (and the Red Queen) in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.5. F9 PUSHED BACK TO THE 2021 DATE WHEN F10 WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RELEASED (Photo by Universal Pictures)So far, most of the delays related to coronavirus concerns seem to be just for the next month or two, but some studios are reacting with much longer delays. The biggest came from Universal Pictures, which pulled F9 (the ninth Fast Furious movie) from its 5/22/2020 release date, and pushed it all the way back to April 2, 2021. The curious thing about that particular date is that it was previously the release date for the next movie in the franchise, F10, which is presumably now delayed to late 2021 or even 2022 instead. The status of the production and release of F10 wasn t really addressed in Universal s statement this week (though it s worth noting that Vin Diesel has talked about the final film actually being split into two parts ).6. DISNEY DELAYS FILMING OF THE LITTLE MERMAID, SHANG-CHI, AND MANY MORE (Photo by Walt Disney courtesy Everett Collection)While several films have seen their imminent release dates shift over the past few days, there are still others that would have been currently filmed for late 2020 or 2021, and they re also being delayed for similar reasons. One major project that has stopped filming temporarily is Marvel Studios Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2/12/2021), because its director Destin Daniel Cretton has chosen to self-quarantine himself. That news was followed mere hours later by the announcement that Walt Disney Pictures had halted production of several film and TV projects, including the live-action remakes of The Little Mermaid (just nine days before filming was to start in London) and Peter Pan and Wendy, as well as Guillermo del Toro s Nightmare Alley and Ridley Scott s The Last Duel. Other studios are also halting production on some of their projects, including Universal Pictures romantic comedy Bros (starring Billy Eichner) and Sony Pictures The Nightingale (12/25/2020), starring Dakota and Elle Fanning, not to be confused with the 2019 film that shares the same title.7. TOM HANKS TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 WHILE FILMING BAZ LUHRMANN S ELVIS PRESLEY BIOPIC (Photo by Sony Pictures)There were dozens of stories this week about the impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus on Hollywood and its movies, but there was one story that definitively resonated across social media. Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have been in Australia to film Baz Luhrmann s untitled Elvis Presley biopic (10/1/2021), in which Hanks plays Colonel Tom Parker. It was there where Hanks and Wilson announced to the world that they have tested positive for COVID-19 (their statement is worth reading if just to learn their symptoms). Meanwhile, production in Australia on the Elvis Presley biopic is temporarily halted, as many other productions have done this week. Hanks son, Colin Hanks, also took to Twitter soon after to give fans an update about their conditions.8. WOODY HARRELSON REPLACES JASON STATHAM AS THE MAN FROM TORONTO (Photo by Glen Wilson/©Columbia Pictures)It can be sort of fascinating to delve into casting stories over time and take note of which actors almost landed certain roles that were ultimately made famous by someone else. Just last week, we reported that Jason Statham had dropped out of the Kevin Hart action comedy The Man from Toronto, and now a week later, we can also reveal who someone in Hollywood thought was comparable enough to Jason Statham to be his replacement. The answer turns out to be a former sitcom star from Texas which is quite different from an English action star namely Woody Harrelson (Zombieland, Venom 2, The Hunger Games), who has signed a deal to star in The Man from Toronto opposite Kevin Hart. Sony Pictures has scheduled The Man from Toronto for release on November 20, 2020 (up against the monster movie Godzilla vs Kong), and the week before the James Bond movie No Time to Die.9. VIN DIESEL CONFIRMS SEQUEL PLANS FOR THE LAST WITCH HUNTER (Photo by Scott Garfield/©Summit Entertainment)Vin Diesel has become synonymous with his most successful franchise, the Fast Furious movies, even if he s got plenty of other movies on his résumé (like this week s Bloodshot, Rotten at 35%, or as the voice of Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies). Perhaps looking for another possible franchise (especially with Fast Furious 10 expected to be the last in that run), Diesel is now talking about plans for a sequel to the 2015 fantasy action adventure The Last Witch Hunter (Rotten at 17%). It s understandable if you can t remember that The Last Witch Hunter was even a movie (people will probably eventually feel the same way about Bloodshot), as it only earned million domestically. Nevertheless, Vin Diesel confirmed that Lionsgate has hired a writer for the sequel (though he doesn t drop their name), and that he s sometimes approached by fans who want to see him and Michael Caine return for a sequel.

This Week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering new projects for Jason Statham, Adam Driver, Jamie Foxx, Daisy Ridley, and more. This WEEK S TOP STORYADAM DRIVER JOINS NEW FILM FROM WRITERS OF A QUIET PLACE(Photo by ©Netflix)Adam Driver is coming off a monster 2019, during which he not only completed his run in the Star Wars sequel trilogy as Kylo Ren but also earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his work in Noah Baumbach s Netflix original film Marriage Story. Next up for Driver is Ridley Scott s historical drama The Last Duel, which just went back into production after initiating a hiatus due to COVID-19, and he s in talks for Scott s next film, the Lady Gaga-powered based-on-true-events crime drama Gucci, but he s also just landed what could be a very interesting new role. Deadline reports that Driver has signed on to a film called 65, which will be written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the duo who wrote John Krasinki s A Quiet Place. Sam Raimi will also be producing the film, which, combined with the presence of Beck and Woods, gives us some idea what kind of movie it will be, though no details on the plot have yet been released. There s also no indication when 65 will go into production, but considering Driver s busy schedule and in-demand status, it could be a while.Other Top Headlines1. JASON STATHAM AND GUY RITCHIE COLLABORATE AGAIN FOR SPY THRILLER(Photo by Gareth Davies/Getty Images)Before he transitioned to big-budget studio blockbusters, Guy Ritchie made his bones with a couple of slick and witty crime capers featuring a then-unknown Jason Statham (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch). After he turned in the live-action remake of Disney s Aladdin last year, he then returned to those roots with The Gentlemen, albeit without Statham. And while Ritchie and Statham are indeed scheduled to reunite for another caper called Cash Truck, which is currently in post-production, they ll be taking their talents international with a new spy thriller called Five Eyes. The story will follow an MI6 agent (Statham) who is recruited by global intelligence alliance Five Eyes to track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapon that threatens to disrupt the world order. Including the yet-to-be-released Cash Truck (it s scheduled for January 15, 2021), this will be the fifth collaboration between Ritchie and Statham.2. UPCOMING ZACK SNYDER ZOMBIE MOVIE GETS A PREQUEL AND ANIME SERIES(Photo by ©Netflix)Zack Snyder made a big splash a couple weekends ago during the DC FanDome event when he unveiled the first trailer for The Snyder Cut of Justice League, which will air in four parts on the HBO Max streaming service sometime in 2021. In the meantime, Snyder has been working on a little zombie heist film called Army of the Dead, purportedly developed as a sequel to his 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. That film is slated to be released on Netflix, and although we don t yet know exactly when that ll be, the streaming giant has gone ahead and greenlit both a prequel film and a spin-off anime series. Prolific German actor Matthias Schweighöfer (Valkyrie, The Command), who will appear in Army of the Dead, will also star in and direct the prequel, which will center on his character, while Army of the Dead writer Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum) will write both the prequel and the anime series, the latter of which will be called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and focus on Dave Bautista s character from the film. No word on when we ll be getting those yet, either.3. JAMIE FOXX, TEYONAH PARRIS JOIN JOHN BOYEGA NETFLIX THRILLER(Photo by Dee Cercone, Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)Just a few weeks ago, Netflix released the superhero-themed Project Power to somewhat mixed reviews, further reinforcing their efforts to lean hard into genre entertainment. What set that film apart, like The Old Guard before it, from some of its lesser fare was the presence of A-list talent, namely Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jamie Foxx. Currently, Netflix is gearing up for another production with Star Wars alumnus John Boyega at the lead called They Cloned Tyrone, which will be the directorial debut of Juel Taylor, the screenwriter of Creed II, and Foxx is one of the two new stars who joined it this week. Ther other is Teyonah Parris (Dear White People, If Beale Street Could Talk), who will appear later this year (presumably) in Nia DaCosta s Candyman. The characters played by Boyega, Foxx, and Parris will be thrust onto the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy after a series of eerie events, evidently involving clones, if the title is any indication. In somewhat related news, Boyega also made headlines this week when an interview he did with GQ revealed that he was not a fan of how Disney and the Star Wars sequel trilogy treated its characters of color Finn in particular prompting renewed debate over the films.4. DAISY RIDLEY JOINS WWII DRAMA WOMEN IN THE CASTLE(Photo by Nicola Dove/©20th Century Fox Film Corporation)Considering the impact it had on the world, it shouldn t surprise anyone that we continue to see new films set during World War II, even despite the wealth of stories we already have about the era. The latest is a film called Women in the Castle, a drama adapted from the 2017 novel of the same name by Jessica Shattuck. The story revolves around three women whose husbands were killed in an assassination attempt on Hitler, and how their lives are individually affected by the event. This week we learned that the three women will be played by Daisy Ridley (Rey from the recent Star Wars trilogy), Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient, Darkest Hour), and German actress Nina Hoss, who earned widespread acclaim for another recent WWII film, Phoenix. Women in the Castle will be adapted and directed by Jane Anderson, whose 2017 film The Wife earned Glenn Close a number of awards and an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.5. CHLOE GRACE MORETZ JOINS SCI-FI THRILLER MOTHER/ANDROID(Photo by Shane Mahood/Focus Features)Like Zack Snyder, Matt Reeves made an appearance at DC FanDome to stoke anticipation for his upcoming film The Batman, for which he unveiled the very first trailer. As he continues to pull that film together in the face of unforeseen hurdles (more on that below), Reeves is also putting on his producer hat for a new sci-fi film that will be the directorial debut of Mattson Tomlin, who came on board to help Reeves write the script for The Batman and whose most recent script was for Netflix s Project Power. The new film is called Mother/Android, and it will star Chloe Grace Moretz (who appeared in Reeves Let Me In)as a young pregnant woman who flees with her boyfriend from a war between their country and a malevolent artificial intelligence in hopes of giving birth in a safe environment. Tomlin, who also wrote the script, based the story on his own parents who fled the Romanian Revolution. Mother/Android doesn t have a release date yet, but Tomlin has a number of big projects on the horizon, including the sci-fi drama Little Fish and a big-screen adaptation of the video game Mega Man, so it could be a while.6. DISNEY S HAUNTED MANSION IS BACK IN DEVELOPMENT(Photo by Walt Disney courtesy Everett Collection)While Disney has gotten mixed results from their films based on theme park attractions, most everyone agrees that 2003 s The Haunted Mansion, starring Eddie Murphy, was a tragic misfire. A few years later in 2010, there was some hope that longtime fan Guillermo del Toro would be able to craft something worthwhile as he set about developing a new take on the ride that would be scary and fun at the same time, but the scary will be scary. As the years passed, del Toro struggled to make much headway on the film, even with Ryan Gosling in talks to star at one point, and as recently as 2019, he expressed doubt that the film would ever be made, though he would love to see a Haunted Mansion movie by someone who loves it. That time may have come, as Disney recently announced they are moving forward with a new adaptation of The Haunted Mansion, this time written by Katie Dippold. Dippold s most recent credits include the Melissa McCarthy/Sandra Bullock action comedy The Heat, the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters, and 2017 s Snatched, as well as episodes of Parks and Recreation. The next big movie based on a Disney ride will be Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, which is scheduled to open on July 31, 2021.7. ROBERT PATTINSON, DWAYNE JOHNSON AMONG STARS WHO HAVE CONTRACTED COVID-19(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough, Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)As we ve mentioned frequently over the past few months, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has resulted in film and television production delays across the board, but lost time is nothing when compared to the very real threat of illness, and famous people are, of course, no more immune to COVID-19 than the rest of us. Back in March, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were the first two high-profile celebrities who revealed they had come down with the virus while filming Baz Luhrmann s Elvis Presley biopic in Australia (they re currently recovering), and they were followed by others, like Idris Elba, Sara Bareilles, Daniel Dae Kim, Bryan Cranston, Lena Dunham, and Zoey Deutch, just to name a few. This week, we learned that two more of Hollywood s biggest stars have also contracted the virus. Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to announce to his fans that he and his family had tested positive for COVID-19, but were currently on the other side of it and recuperating, while it was also revealed that Matt Reeves production of The Batman had to be halted just days after shooting on the film had resumed because star Robert Pattinson had also tested positive for the virus. The latter announcement comes just a little over a week after DC FanDome, when Reeves unveiled the new trailer for the film and offered fans the first look of Pattinson in action as the character. It remains to be seen how long the delay will be, but it serves as a reminder to the rest of us that nobody is above the pandemic. So please stay vigilant, stay safe, and practice social distancing protocols, so we can all enjoy The Batman together.8. HOLLYWOOD RESPONDS TO DEATH OF CHADWICK BOSEMAN(Photo by Marvel Studios)Last Friday, the world was stunned to learn that Chadwick Boseman, the actor who had portrayed such real-life luminaries as James Brown, Jackie Robinson, and Thurgood Marshall, as well as the Marvel superhero Black Panther, had succumbed to the colon cancer he had been battling since 2016. Part of the shock came because of what he represented to movie fans, but also because no one not even those he worked closely with was aware of his condition, even as he churned out critically acclaimed hits and record-breaking blockbusters. News of his death, as reported by his family on Twitter, resonated powerfully with fans, which resulted in an outpouring of emotion and inspired a number of tributes. In the wake of the announcement, the film Black Panther shot to the top of charts on Amazon and iTunes, while ABC aired the film on Sunday along with a tribute to Boseman anchored by Robin Roberts and TBS made space in its schedule to air the film twice. AMC theaters also decided to rerelease the Jackie Robinson biopic 42 in theaters, beginning this weekend, and after just one day, the tweet announcing his death became the most liked tweet ever. Boseman clearly had a massive impact on the world, and he will be sorely missed.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino s ninth film (if you count the Kill Bill movies as one), just earned him his highest opening-weekend box office, so it s safe to say mainstream audiences were primed and ready for another of the maverick director s stylized adventures. Currently sitting Certified Fresh at 84% on the Tomatometer, the rambling tour through the Los Angeles of 1969 ranks just below Django Unchained in Tarantino s filmography, marking only the latest critical hit in a career full of them. But what did average moviegoers think of the movie? Once Upon a Time currently holds an Audience Score of 72%, which ties 2007 s Death Proof as the lowest of any of his films. Is 72% a bad score? Not by any means, but considering Tarantino s reputation as a filmmaker, it indicates a certain level of dissatisfaction not commonly associated with his movies. With that in mind, we decided to take a peek at the user reviews to get a broader sense of how the moviegoing public at large responded to the film and suss out what might have brought that Audience Score down just a touch more than we expected. Check out the user reviews of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and let us know what you thought of the film, and these reviews, in the comments. (Note, some of the reviews have been slightly edited for length and grammar/spelling.)(Photo by Andrew Cooper / © Columbia Pictures)How does this compare to Tarantino s previous work? Not Tarantino s best. Sean W C, 2.5 starsThis is for the hardcore Tarantino fan. Good, but not mind-blowing.. Sean B, 3 starsIt was just OK. The most un-Tarantino movie he s made. Stephen M, 3 starsTarantino never ceases to make a masterpiece time and time again. The cinematics were pleasing, classic, and very on brand If you are a fan of good visuals, excellent acting, and a compelling storyline with Tarantino s classic touches as the cherry on top, then this is the movie to see.– Zada, 5 StarsWhat a wild ride. The first two hours are definitely a different take from Tarantino, very different from his usual stuff. But the last 40-or-so minutes are unmistakably Tarantino in full. Kyle, 5 starsI really enjoyed the movie. It was a bit different from Quentin’s other movies, but nonetheless the cast pulled it off. The movie kept me wondering, and then I really got to see what the tale was, and was immediately hooked and impressed. It’s safe to say Tarantino hasn’t lost his touch. I would like to watch it again. Jay A, 5 stars(Photo by Andrew Cooper / © Columbia Pictures)How is the pacing and plot?Terrible movie no plot, no entertainment value, just three hours of pointless dialogue. Wow, I don’t know how people enjoy this crap. Literally nothing happened until the last 20 minutes! Nothing! Do not see this movie!!! Matthew K, 0.5 starsNot his best work. Meandering and pointless. Very disappointing. David S, 2 starsThere really is not any character development or a main driving plot in the film. I would closely relate it to Pulp Fiction, in that it’s more of a series of random but loosely collected clips. A lot of people left the theater asking, “What was the point of this ?” I think the film would be more enjoyable at home when there is time to burn; there’s just too much dead time that could’ve been removed and made this movie ~1.5 hours shorter. Daves_Ratings, 2 starsA little long. Could have cut out about 1/3 of the movie. Stephen M, 3 starsThis movie, to me, is a triumph. Although devoid of a clear plot/narrative, Tarantino crafts the dialogue and characters in ways which make it fun to watch. And although the second act tends to drag at times, the overall story is a blast to watch, along with incredibly written characters acted perfectly (especially DiCaprio and Pitt). Also, the incredibly entertaining first two hours and 15 minutes lead into what may be my favorite scene in a movie this year. David A, 4.5 starsI love Tarantino s attention to detail, nuance and creativity. The camera tells a story in every scene. If you like fast food more than well-marinated, slow-cooked steak, then this might not appeal to you. CO Critic, 5 stars(Photo by Andrew Cooper / © Columbia Pictures)What about the cast? The stars carried it. Steven B, 2.5 starsI enjoyed the movie, but it wasn t one of Tarantino s best. Great acting. Great camera work. Great sound track. But it didn t have the energy of Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill 1 and 2. Maybe I just expected too much. Gene, 3 starsMovie was enjoyable fun and Leo and Brad were electric together. Gina, 3.5 starsDamn fine filmmaking! I want a Rick Dalton movie, stat! Damien C, 4.5 starsA wonderful, meandering road with superb acting performances by both DiCaprio and Pitt that eventually leads us to one hell of an ending. If you re a Tarantino fan, or a fan of any of these actors, you should love this movie. Mike M, 5 starsDiCaprio Delivers yet Again. One of the best ensemble pieces in years. Brad Pitt was phenomenal and nuanced. Will see again. Siskel No Ebert, 5 stars(Photo by Andrew Cooper / © Columbia Pictures)And the historical context?Do some research before watching. A big overarching plot point in the film (which I didn’t know going in) is centered on a famous cult murder from the 1960-70 period. Daves_Ratings, 2 starsA good story, but it lacks most of the thrill and suspense often found in his films. The difference with this one is that it explores Hollywood as a past and present establishment more than creating specific stories with protagonists who set out to achieve clearly defined goals. Mark, 3.5 starsLoved the 60s eye candy from small, well-curated objects like Aqua Net hairspray and the ode to 60s neon signs All in all, a wonderful stroll down memory lane (my era) by a director who has a unique personal style. Amy, 3.5 starsRecreation of the era and the story, cast, and characters will make you want to see this one again. Thomas, 5 stars(Photo by @ Columbia Pictures)What about that ending? The last 15 minutes were good. Too drawn out. Barry M, 2 starsI found the movie boring. The end was way too violent and weird. Very weird. Some people walked out early, and some people applauded the ending. It’s just a matter of personal taste, I guess. Donna W, 2.5 starsThe ending was a little disappointing and actually had some humor in it. Gina, 3.5 starsI don t want to spoil anything, but I was not expecting the ending at all. Zada, 5 stars(Photo by Andrew Cooper / © Columbia Pictures)Any final thoughts?I feel misled about this movie; it s Helter Skelter revisited. I do not think that I would have gone to see this movie if I would have known. Ray B, 3 starsThis movie is so much fun! Don t miss it. Tarantino, DiCaprio, and Pitt knock it out of the park. They will both get Oscar nods, well deserved. Can t wait to see it again and again. Warren W, 4.5 starsCheck out all of the user reviews for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Like this? On this, the weekend of the most prestigious awards ceremony in Hollywood, we also take a moment to look at the worst that cinema had to offer in 2018, courtesy of the Golden Raspberry Awards, or Razzies. With such worthy contenders as the misguided biopic Gotti, the farcical take on Holmes and Watson, and the soft and plushy vulgarity of The Happytime Murders, it was anyone s guess who would take home the big prizes. Read on for the full list of winners. Worst Picture

“We wanted to push the fidelity of everything all the way through,” added supervising director Brad Rau, who also serves as an executive producer with Corbett. Though a new show, keeping Baker as the voice of the clones and keeping the overall style of Clone Wars was a very conscious decision on a part of the creative staff to maintain the continuity and visually inform the viewer how swiftly after Clones Wars this series takes place. Although, he noted, “we have clonetroopers in our show, and they re very similar model to The Clone Wars, but they re a little bit different.”One difference viewers may notice in short order: the color-coding and personalized augmentation of trooper gear quickly disappears in favor of the uniform stormtrooper monochrome — a swift change as the clone army of the Republic becomes an Imperial military force.Rau noted that “just seeing the clonetroopers as the forces of our evil army and how their gear, their vehicles, and their equipment has changed to be a little bit less colorful, less individual” changes the relationship to established Star Wars imagery in a way viewers may not immediately recognize consciously, but underscores one of the show’s themes about the transition to Empire.“It s interesting when you take an AT-TE tank, one that we re used to seeing as a good-guy tank, and just strip it off color and paint it this boring gray, and then we re playing very evil music as it comes marching down the street. And you think, ‘There s no doubt, that s a bad-guy tank,’” Rau explained.(Photo by Lucasfilm)Another sign of the changing attitude with the arrival of the Empire: once the Bad Batch come home to Kamino after the Clone Wars end, they see Admiral Wilhulff Tarkin, not yet the Grand Moff of the Death Star, inspecting the troops and doubting the loyalty of the Bad Batch. The classic Star Wars baddie — played by Peter Cushing in the original film and voiced by Stephen Stanton in his animated appearances — is something of a “big fish” for The Bad Batch, according to Corbett.“While he s there to address certain things, I suspect that he ll be pulled someplace to handle other important matters,” she added. And once he is called away to those matters (and his destiny aboard the Death Star), a surprising person will take his place in the hunt for the Bad Batch once they make their escape from the Imperial ranks.Along the way, the Bad Batch also meet a young female clone named Omega (Michelle Ang), whose existence may lead to a new mystery down the road. The character also continues a particular Star Wars animated tradition of introducing kid characters; Clone Wars did the same with Ahsoka and Star Wars Rebels followed suit with Ezra Bridger — to say nothing of Anakin Skywalker s introduction in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace. To Rau, having a child in the midst of the action is key.“These are essentially shows for kids,” he explained. “As big kids ourselves that still love Star Wars from when we saw it as kids, we never want it to get too dark; although, there are dark things that happen.”(Photo by Lucasfilm)The character also changes the dynamic within the squad itself as it is presented with a new set of challenges the clone creators on Kamino never dreamed they would encounter.“The things that they teach each other are really, really interesting and help keep [the Bad Batch] on their toes,” Rau said. “They re not always just hitting the target now [and have to think], ‘Oh, wait a minute. When it s not a military objective, how do we deal with raising this child? We don t even know how to deal with the galaxy ourselves!’”Baker added, “It s a really wonderful thing to see how quickly some of the Bad Batch warm up to Omega, and it really adds an interesting layer to these kind of gonzo, improvisational, special ops soldiers.” To Baker, who has the strange task of keeping all these characters in his mind simultaneously, the addition of Omega adds “the story of what s playing out, which it s not just a matter of war and power, but it is [also] human.”And playing those humans, er, clones, leads to a unique method of recording for Baker. He prefers to run through the script in order and switch between the Bad Batch characters (and any other clones who might be in the scene) live and on the fly.“Once the specificity of the characters is nailed down, as it is by this point, it s actually pretty easy for me to jump from one to the other,” he explained. Although he admitted Wrecker, the demolitions expert with a propensity for yelling, does present some difficulty. “When Wrecker gets excited or starts yelling, that brings a physical cost to the voice that I sometimes have to manage a little bit. But other than that, it s amazingly easy to do.”Baker is able to record two or three takes of an entire scene before a pause for notes from Corbett or Rau or for a moment to record specific lines to “rearrange the words or the inflection or the meaning of sentences, or add extra efforts, or modify the presence of voice to match what the blocking establishes.”(Photo by Lucasfilm)And though the series is a showcase of Baker’s talents, it also retains the imprimatur of Clones Wars and Rebels supervising director Dave Filoni, who serves as the show’s creator even as he continues to chart aspects of Star Wars’ live action television efforts.“The stuff he tells us is fantastic and amazing,” Rau said. As anyone who has heard him talk can attest, he has a rare gift for explaining Star Wars ideas and concepts.“It’s a master class in writing Star Wars,” added Corbett, who also called Filoni s involvement “crucial” in the development of The Bad Batch as a series. The Filoni stamp means the show is also free to move between lighthearted stories and darker tales just like its predecessors, but with one interesting difference: “It s a combination [of tones] because it is a dark time, but the fun adventures they get to go on and the places that they visit are different because there s no war happening,” Corbett said.Indeed, The Bad Batch is unique in that it occurs during a time of galactic peace. Sure, that peace may be an illusion and comes with some brutal hidden fees, but the Clone Wars are over, the Civil War is a decade or so from truly beginning, and the conflicts of the Mandalorian and Sequel Trilogy eras are undreamed of at this point in Star Wars history.(Photo by Lucasfilm)“At least that s a positive,” she continued. “But there are other things that they re encountering in the galaxy that are equally as challenging for them.”Hopefully, those challenges will thrill viewers and keep The Bad Batch on Disney+ until its eventual conclusion, which both Corbett and Rau alluded they have a plan for, but that discussion is for another time — Clone Force 99 and Omega’s journey is just beginning.Star Wars: The Bad Batch debuts on Tuesday, May 4 with a special 70-minute premiere, followed by new episodes every Friday starting on May 7 on Disney+.

(Photo by Caitlin Cronenberg, © Entertainment One/courtesy Everett Collection)All Robert Pattinson Movies, Ranked By TomatometerRobert Pattinson on the Twilight series press circuits would occasionally mock the movies he was out there supposedly promoting, suggesting two things: (1) maybe this new on the scene IT boy was actually a genuine person, and (2) he had made enough money by New Moon to never work in this town again. Many young actors careers have been crushed under the weight of the very things that made them famous. And unemployment post-Twilight was a very real threat for Pattinson: Would he only be remembered as that pasty sparkling vegetarian vampire? As Twilight wound down, Pattinson threw himself before the arthouse gods, who guided him to challenging directors like David Cronenberg (Cosmopolis, Maps to the Stars), Anton Corbijn (Life), Werner Herzog (Queen of the Desert), and David Michôd (The Rover). And though none of those movies represented their respective director s best work, and in the case of Herzog it was actually his worst, they showcased Pattinson as a dedicated performer and, especially in dystopian western The Rover, a sometimes unpredictable and savage one.And then in 2017 he put out Good Time, just to show you sometimes all you need is that one movie to turn your image around. As with the Safdie brothers later Uncut Gems, Good Time assaults the senses while building a central emphatic and engaging character defined by constant frantic action. Pattinson came out as the indie hero of that year, and having James Gray s The Lost City of Z release around the same time didn t hurt, either. A strong 2019 continued that trend with Claire Denis High Life and Robert Eggers The Lighthouse. His latest film was Netflix thriller The Devil All the Time, opposite Tom Holland. And currently a dark night falls upon Pattinson s career as he takes on the mantle of Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves The Batman, which is scheduled for an October 21, 2021 release. Before that swings into theaters, take a look at all Robert Pattinson movies, ranked by Tomatometer!
