Ghcxuf This week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles as Dracula, Freedom Ride, UNO, and Wicked. This WEEK S TOP STORYNOMADLAND DIRECTOR CHLOE ZHAO TO REIMAGINE DRACULA AS FUTURISTIC, SCI-FI WESTERN(Photo by David Crotty/Getty Images)The Frances McDormand drama Nomadland (Certified Fresh at 95%) has otherwise been a leading contender for possible Academy Awards nominations. Director Chloé Zhao s next film will be Marvel Studios Eternals, which has been delayed a year by COVID-19 from November, 2020 to November 5, 2021, despite actually being filmed by Zhao concurrently with Nomadland in late 2018 and early 2019. Marvel has yet to release even a single still from Eternals, so we still don t know what that MCU movie might look like (other than that Kumail Nanjiani is ripped), but this week s news suggests that Universal Pictures has their sights on her. Chloé Zhao is attached to write, direct, and produce Universal Pictures latest reboot of their classic vampire franchise Dracula, which will reportedly be adapted as a futuristic, science fiction Western (we hope Zhao remembers to include vampires). In an interesting twist, Universal Pictures is also continuing to work with Blumhouse and director Karyn Kusama on another Dracula project (in which Sebastian Stan has expressed interest in starring), so that Universal now has two separate Dracula reboots in development at the same time.Other Top Headlines1. WICKED MOVIE FINALLY HAPPENING WITH CRAZY RICH ASIANS DIRECTOR (Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)A recurring theme in The Weekly Ketchup involves reminders of exactly how long it takes some movies to finally get produced. The Wicked movie definitely falls into that territory, as Univeral Pictures has been developing an adaptation of the revisionist Wizard of Oz Broadway musical since 2009 (predating the similarly themed Oz: The Great and Powerful by four years). Repeatedly over the past decade, Universal Pictures has put Wicked on their release schedule, including most recently on December 20, 2019, which obviously didn t happen that specific slot went to another Broadway musical adaptation, Cats, instead. The Wicked movie seemed to hit a roadbump in October when Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) dropped out as director, but the project is back up and active, with director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, Certified Fresh at 91%) now attached. Chu also has the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical In the Heights still awaiting release on June 18, 2021 after being pushed back from its original summer, 2020 release by the COVID-19 pandemic. He had recently become available after dropping out of directing the Willow sequel series  which also got back into development with a new director for Disney+.  There is no current release date for Wicked, but it is likely to be December of either 2022 or 2023, since that s the month Universal has previously slated Wicked for release.2. MICHELLE WILLIAMS TO CROON AS PEGGY LEE IN FEVER (Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection)The impact of the popularity of rock and roll in the 1950s and 1960s, from Elvis Presley to the Beatles, was so strong that it s perhaps difficult for later generations to fully register that right before that all went down, it was still jazz, big bands, and the Rat Pack that dominated pop music. One such hit record from that period is jazz singer Peggy Lee s sultry cover of Fever in 1958. There has been talk about a Peggy Lee biopic for a while now (including from Billie Eilish, who might executive produce with her mother), and as it turns out, the star of Fever is going to be someone who also played 1950s sex idol Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn (Certified Fresh at 83%). Michelle Williams is now attached to reunite with director Todd Haynes (for whom she starred in both I m Not Here and Wonderstruck) as Peggy Lee in the biopic Fever, which MGM is now negotiating to distribute. Coincidentally, this news came just a week after Williams also signed to reunite with director Kelly Reichardt for a fourth film together, so this has been a busy fortnite for the Oscar-nominated actress. Fever is another movie that s been in development for some time, dating back at least to the early 2010s when Reese Witherspoon almost starred, until the death in 2012 of director Nora Ephron.3. WILL SMITH TO PLAY IT FAST LOOSE FOR DAVID LEITCH(Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection)Stunt coordinator-turned-action-director David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, Fast Furious Presents: Hobbs Shaw) is currently busy at work with Brad Pitt on his latest film, Bullet Train, but this week, Leitch and his representation already began studio negotiations for a project with another big movie star, Will Smith. That movie is a drama called Fast Loose, and it is now the subject of a heated bidding war between several studios, including MGM, Paramount, Sony, Warner Bros., and unspecified streamers (probably flicks on the Net). You can read a more detailed premise here, but the gist is that Will Smith would play a crime lord who wakes up in Mexico with amnesia and discovers as he puts his memories back together that he had two lives one as a powerful crime kingpin, and another as an underccover CIA agent, but without confirmation of which of those is his true identity.4. FREEDOM RIDE TO TELL TRUE STORY OF CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER JOHN LEWIS (Photo by Jeff Hutchens/Getty Images)In a sad coincidence, civil rights leader and U.S. Representative John Lewis died on July 17, 2020, just two weeks after the day-and-date debut of the documentary John Lewis: Good Trouble (Certified Fresh at 96%). The true story of the Freedom Riders, of whom John Lewis was one, is now going to be adapted as the drama Freedom Ride to be directed by Deon Taylor (Black and Blue, Meet the Blacks). Freedom Ride is set to be produced by several collaborators who are now seeking a distributor with hopes for filming to start sometime this summer on location in Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL. No announcements have been made yet about whom might be cast as Lewis or any of the leaders of the Freedom Riders movement.5. FOURTH CLOVERFIELD MOVIE NOW BEING DEVELOPED(Photo by ©Paramount courtesy Everett Collection)The Cloverfield franchise, which currently consists of three films (Cloverfield, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and The Cloverfield Paradox), is somewhat unique in that each film has been produced in relative secrecy, to the point where it was unclear they were even part of a single franchise until very late in their post-production. Specifically, both 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox began their developments as standalone science fiction movies (titled The Cellar and God Particle, respectively), which were then later retooled to become part of the larger, looser Cloverfield narrative. That s an important distinction to note, because this week s news is actually about a new Cloverfield project being produced by J.J. Abrams that is being built from the ground up specifically as a Cloverfield movie (and not as something else being retrofitted to fit the franchise). Having said that, as with its predecessors, we don t actually know anything else about this project, except that it will not be a found-footage movie (like the original Cloverfield).6. SHAZAM! STAR ZACHARY LEVI TO STAR IN HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON (Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)Prior to 2019, Zachary Levi was probably best known for starring in the NBC spy drama Chuck, but that was before he starred in the DC Comics superhero movie Shazam! (Certified Fresh at 90%). Warner Bros. is committed to producing the sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods for release on June 2, 2023, but that isn t expected to start filming until late 2021 at the earliest. In the meantime, Levi has signed with Sony Pictures to star in a new project that is a live action adaptation of the classic children s book Harold and the Purple Crayon. The screenplay is currently being adapted by the writing team of David Guion and Michael Handelman, whose previous credits include Dinner for Schmucks (Rotten at 42%) and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (Rotten at 47%). There have reportedly been several attempts in the past to adapt Harold and the Purple Crayon as a movie, including a Sony Pictures animated film and a live-action version that would ve been directed by Spike Jonze (Her, Where the Wild Things Are).7. HOLLYWOOD JUMPS ON GAMESTOP MOVIE PROJECTS EN MASSE (Photo by Olivier Douliery/Getty Images)For context, it s important to note right at the beginning of this story that the GameStop short squeeze  happened just last week, and it was only on January 28th that Robinhood and other brokerages halted trading of GameStop stock. Since then, however, there are now at least five different feature film projects in development based on the event (three narrative, two documentaries). One of those projects is called The Antisocial Network, and MGM has already acquired the film rights to the book proposal of the same title by writer Ben Mezrich, whose book Bringing Down the House was the inspiration for the Kevin Spacey gambling movie 21 (Rotten at 36%). The second narrative project is an untitled movie being developed by Netflix, with Noah Centineo attached to star. The third narrative project comes from r/wallstreetbets founder Jaime Rogozinski, who has sold his life rights to Brett Ratner s RatPac Entertainment. Finally, there are the two documentary projects (that we know about), one of which is being funded by a Kickstarter campaign, and the other of which is being produced by director Jonah Tulis of the recent video game documentary Console Wars (Fresh at 83%).8. THIS WEEK IN REMAKES: BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY S, BUCK ROGERS, FATHER OF THE BRIDE (Photo by Everett Collection)After a couple of slow news weeks to kick off 2021, Hollywood seems like it s back to business as usual, but since we like to keep the Ketchup to an even 10 stories, here s a three-in-one about a handful of remakes. First off (and this one may be much bigger news as it progresses), Paramount Pictures is now in the midst of a legal battle with the estate of late writer Truman Capote over the studio s rights to remake the classic Audrey Hepburn film, Breakfast at Tiffany s (Certified Fresh at 89%). The original 1961 film hasn t aged well in at least one respect, while at the same time, it also soft-pedals Holly Golightly s profession in the novella upon which the film is based, both of which might be good reasons for a remake. Speaking of estates and legal issues, we now apparently have two competing Buck Rogers adaptations, one of which will be a George Clooney TV series while the other is a feature film being produced by Skydance Media in collaboration with the estate of Buck Rogers creator Philip Francis Nowlan. The last time Buck Rogers was on the big screen was all the way back in 1979, when Universal Pictures expanded the pilot episode of the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century TV series into a theatrically released motion picture. Finally, Warner Bros. has hired director Gaz Alazraki for their remake of Father of the Bride with a Cuban American twist following the previous versions starring both Spencer Tracy and Steve Martin.9. LIL YACHTY WANTS TO MAKE A HEIST COMEDY BASED ON UNO (YES, THE CARD GAME) (Photo by MediaNews Group/Boulder Daily Camera via Getty Images)There are certainly games and toys that could make for good source material for a movie, usually because there is a narrative quality to them. G.I. Joe and Transformers, for example, both came to movies after long runs as both animated TV shows and comic books. The card game UNO, though, not so much. Despite that, Mattel Films and rapper Lil Yachty are now collaborating on a movie adaptation indeed based on the UNO card game. The UNO movie will reportedly be a live-action heist comedy set within the underground hip hop world of Atlanta, with Lil Yachty expected to star. This might at least be good news for anyone who s ever wanted to make movies based on Go Fish, Old Maid, or Crazy Eights. On an Apple device? Follow Rotten Tomatoes on Apple News. 😈😈

冒险岛动作英雄 Today s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news, covering titles like The Eternals, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and Tomb Raider 2.This WEEK S TOP STORYSHAZAM! SEQUEL ALREADY IN THE WORKS (Photo by Warner Bros.)The DC Comics movie Shazam! has only been in theaters for a week, and a sequel is already in development. Shazam! opened much lower ( million domestically) than similar movies like Aquaman (.8 million) and Captain Marvel (3 million), but its 0 million budget was also (presumably) lower than those films. Screenwriter Henry Gayden, who wrote Shazam!, will also return to write its sequel. We don t know the premise of the sequel yet, but the mid-credits tease gave us a clue about the possible villain. One has to guess that the Shazam! sequel will probably also tie in to the long-planned Black Adam movie, and this week, that film s star revealed via an Instagram video that Black Adam will likely start filming sometime in 2020.Fresh Developments1. STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER TRAILER REVELATIONS After months of waiting, we finally learned the title of Star Wars Episode IX via the first teaser trailer, which revealed that the ninth episode s title will be Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. That last word is a curious choice, given what we seemed to learn at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but it s possible that Skywalker in the context of the final installment of the nine-film saga could mean something other than a family name. In the teaser trailer, we see the return of two familiar faces: Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian and the late Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa. Although the teaser trailer appeared on various sources instantaneously, the official location of the reveal was at a panel at this weekend s Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, which you can watch here.  We also hear the voice of Mark Hamill narrating as Luke Skywalker, and at the end of the teaser, what appears to be this actor s sinister laugh.  Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is scheduled for December 20, 2019. You can read our full trailer breakdown here.2. THIS WEEK IN MARVEL PART 1: THE ETERNALS, BLACK WIDOW, SHANG-CHI (Photo by Marvel Studios)As often happens nowadays, there were several stories this week related to Marvel movies, but in the interest of saving time, we re going to bundle together into just two Weekly Ketchup entries. Let s start with next year s The Eternals, for which Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick, HBO s Silicon Valley) is now in talks for a role. We don t have any idea what character Nanjiani might play, except that he s the second name attached to The Eternals, after Angelina Jolie from a few weeks back. The other movie that Marvel Studios is filming this year is Scarlett Johansson s Black Widow solo movie, and O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid s Tale) is now in talks for an unknown role. Fagbenle is the fourth new actor in talks for Black Widow after Florence Pugh, David Harbour (Hellboy), and Rachel Weisz (The Favourite). There was also news this week of a deal between Marvel Studios and the government of Australia for a subsidy for the filming of an upcoming movie, which people are speculating will be Shang-Chi (AKA Master of Kung-Fu).3. THIS WEEK IN MARVEL PART 2: FIVE YEAR PLAN POST-AVENGERS: ENDGAME  (Photo by Marvel Studios)We know that Black Widow and The Eternals are the next two films Marvel Studios is shooting, and that they are also developing films for Shang-Chi and Ms. Marvel, as well as the sequels Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 (plus, presumably, Captain Marvel will probably get a sequel too). That, however, is only eight films, and this week we learned that Kevin Feige is saying that they have a five-year plan, which, given Marvel s recent three-movies-a-year schedule, means they re going to come up a bit short. It s possible that Marvel Studios is including their recent acquisition of Deadpool, Fantastic Four, and X-Men from Fox, but Feige seems to be saying that the five-year plan comes first. We also probably won t get official announcements of this plan until after this summer s Spider-Man: Far from Home. In the meantime, we also learned this week of Jeremy Renner starring in a Hawkeye series for the Disney+ app, plus confirmation of the Disney+ shows WandaVision, Loki, Falcon and Winter Soldier, and the animated What If? You can read about all of the Disney+ updates in our roundup here.4. OSCAR-WINNING BLACK PANTHER COSTUMER TAPPED FOR COMING TO AMERICA 2(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection)Marvel s Black Panther won three Academy Awards this year for Best Original Score, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design. That last Oscar went to Ruth E. Carter, whose film work has also included Amistad, Selma, and several of  Spike Lee s joints, including Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X. On Black Panther, Carter adapted the comic book costumes of the royalty of Wakanda, the citizens of Wakanda, and the related tribal leaders, and now she s going to give us the attire of another fictional African nation. Ruth E. Carter will be the costume designer of the long-awaited sequel to Eddie Murphy s Coming to America, which is scheduled for August 7, 2020, the week after Sony/Marvel s vampire movie Morbius, starring Jared Leto.5. CAMILA CABELLO TO STAR IN JAMES CORDEN S TAKE ON CINDERELLA (Photo by Steve Mack/Everett Collection)It was just four years ago that Disney released their live action remake of their classic animated film Cinderella. This week we learned that Sony Pictures is now developing their own take on the tale that is based on a story idea from late night host James Corden. The star of Sony s Cinderella will be singer-songwriter Camila Cabello, who will also be involved with the film s music (and the movie will be more of a musical than Disney s 2015 version). Sony s Cinderella musical will be written and directed by Kay Cannon, who made her feature film debut last year with Blockers (Certified Fresh at 84%).6. DAVE BAUTISTA JOINS ZACK SNYDER S ZOMBIE MOVIE ARMY OF THE DEAD (Photo by JA/Everett Collection)Dwayne Johnson is still the busiest wrester-turned-actor right now, but Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista is getting close. In addition to his likely appearance in Avengers: Endgame, Bautista will also star in Stuber (7/12/2019), My Spy (TBA 2019), Escape Plan: The Extractors (TBA 2019/2020), and as Glossu Rabban in the Dune remake (11/20/2020). In addition to those five films, Bautista signed on to two more this week. The first one we heard about this week was Army of the Dead, the zombie heist movie that Zack Snyder will be directing for Netflix. Although Snyder did earn a Certified Fresh 75% for his previous zombie movie, Dawn of the Dead, his last four movies have all received Rotten Tomatometer scores. Meanwhile, Bautista is also attached to star in an action/thriller called Killer s Game for STXfilms and D.J. Caruso, who is likewise coming off a five-film Rotten Tomatometer streak.Rotten Ideas3. KEN JEONG TO VOICE DYNOMUTT IN SCOOB (Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection)A few weeks ago, we learned that the beloved animated character Captain Caveman will be making his feature film debut next year in Scoob (5/15/2020). Tracy Morgan will be voicing Captain Caveman, and the main Mystery Inc. gang will be voiced by Zac Efron (Fred), Amanda Seyfried (Daphne), Gina Rodriguez (Velma), Will Forte (Shaggy), and Frank Welker (Scooby). This week, we learned that Captain Caveman won t be the only classic 1970s character making his debut in Scoob, as Ken Jeong (The Hangover, Crazy Rich Asians) will be voicing Dynomutt, the co-star of The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour from 1976 to 1977. Kiersey Clemons (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising) has also joined the voice cast as Dee Dee Skyes, one of Captain Caveman s Teen Angels, who were basically a Saturday morning cartoon spoof of the popular Charlie s Angels primetime series.2. TOMB RAIDER GETTING A SEQUEL AFTER ALL (Photo by Warner Bros.)When the Tomb Raider reboot opened in second place last year under the box office juggernaut that was Black Panther, many pundits probably presumed that the would-be franchise for Tomb Raider would be a non-starter. And critically, like most video game adaptations, the Alicia Vikander version of Tomb Raider also received a Rotten Tomatometer score of 52%. As it turns out, neither of those details is holding back Lara Croft s cinematic future, as MGM is now developing a sequel. Possibly hoping to increase the chances of a Fresh score, MGM has hired screenwriter Amy Jump, whose Tomatometer is mostly Certified Fresh, with her one Rotten score for High-Rise being just one point off at 59%. But considering the history of video game adaptations and the lackluster first film, the Tomb Raider sequel will have a pretty steep hill to climb.1. TELL ME MORE, TELL ME MORE, SUMMER LOVING SOUNDS LIKE A DRAG (Photo by Paramount Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)By 1978 standards, Grease was a fun, nostalgic musical and a favorite for two different generations. By other standards, the lyrics of some of the songs (like, say, Greased Lightning ) have not aged well at all. One such example is Summer Nights, the lyrics of which include what seem like references to attempted sexual assault (or at least a tell me more inquiry about one). So, obviously, a major movie studio would never consider developing a Grease prequel in 2019 called Summer Loving, right? Of course they would, and they are. Frequent Tim Burton collaborator John August has been hired by Paramount Pictures to work on the prequel, which will show how greaser Danny Zuko first met Australian exchange student Sandy Olsson on the beach during summer vacation. John August s next film will be next month s Aladdin (5/24/2019), and he also worked on Guillermo del Toro s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (8/9/2019).Like this? Jordan Peele has arguably exceeded the impossibly high expectations for his sophomore effort, Us. Our pick for 2019 s official Scream Queen, Lupita Nyong o, was praised in turn as Adelaide, the matriarch of the family at the center of the film, and her eerie doppelganger. Jason Bailey of Flavorwire called her evil-twin performance unnervingly creepy. A tight film carefully edited to drive momentum, Us has more tricks than one can discern from the trailers. The blood-chilling remix of Luniz   I Got Five on It, however, more than delivers on the epic foreshadowing from the trailer. It s another thrill ride that keeps the viewer guessing, and Peele has said that he designed the film to inspire repeat viewing. We can confirm his efforts are supremely effective, and we expect many will opt to see it multiple times.Alice (2019) 90%Though very little was known of Josephine Mackerras Alice before SXSW, the French drama turned out to be another SXSW indie gem. While speaking with SXSW before the festival, Mackerras clued us into the film s larger themes: examining the double standards of gender identity and the nature of need versus love. The 2019 SXSW Grand Jury prize winner for Narrative Features was on our most anticipated films of SXSW and still boasts a 100% Tomatometer score. A muted story about what a desperate woman will do when pressed to her breaking point, the film follows a young mother named Alice whose philandering husband has left her penniless from his addiction to escorts. Alice then finds herself suddenly flung into the lucrative world of high-end prostitution as a last resort to care for her son. Adeptly skewering the gender double standards of sex work, marriage, and child-rearing, this is one not to forget when awards season kicks off.The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019) 95%(Photo by Lucky Treehouse)Shia LaBeouf is on a hot streak. He opened the year with an impressive Sundance debut in Honey Boy; penned by and starring LaBeouf, it s based on his adolescence and strained relationship with his estranged father. This past week he was greeted with equally impressive reactions to his next effort, A Peanut Butter Falcon. Sheri Linden of the Hollywood Reporter gushed, LaBeouf holds the screen with natural allure, making every twinge of his character s self-reproach, and every instant of his dawning joy, achingly felt. In A Peanut Butter Falcon, a ragtag group of outcasts and escapees set off on an adventure down the deltas to a wrestling school not quite Mark Twain, but there are clear parallels. Underneath its Huckleberry Finn premise is an uncynical story about friendship, family, and defying expectations, and it s currently Fresh at 100%.Good Boys (2019) 80%The adorable Jacob Tremblay dropping F-bombs is a hilarious surprise bonus recommendation for Good Boys. We enjoyed Seth Rogen s other 2019 SXSW entry, Long Shot, but Good Boys was a highlight of the festival and a safe bet for one of the funniest films of 2019. Three sixth-grade friends are headed to their first kissing party, and the comedic mix of overconfidence and naivete stymie the tweens efforts to prepare. Tremblay looks good to transition to older material after this brilliant, very hard R-rated performance. Stars Jacob Tremblay, Keith L. Williams, Brady Noon had to greet the crowd before the premiere in Austin (the screening finished way past their bedtime).Extra Ordinary (2019) 98%(Photo by Blinder Films)A wholly unique film in tone and subject, Extra Ordinary is tailor-made for cult-classic status. A nervous widower named Martin Martin (Barry Ward) reluctantly visits a driving instructor named Rose (Maeve Higgins) with the talents as a way to solve his current woes. Rose, the daughter of a famous spiritualist, can talk to the spirit world, and  Martin enlists her to exorcize his dead but continually nagging wife out of his and his daughter s life. Martin and Rose battle the spirit world and maybe fall in love while a bizarre cast of characters botch exorcisms, worship Satan, and set up some truly cringe-worthy moments that will leave you in stitches. Will Forte, in particular, shines as the villain of the absurdist sci-fi comedy, which feels like a mash-up of Ghost and Yorgos Lanthimos The Lobster.Olympic Dreams (2019) 70%(Photo by Endeavor Content)Nick Kroll recently joked that his longtime friend and collaborator John Mulaney had possibly replaced him with Pete Davidson. While Davidson and Mulaney were hitting Steely Dan concerts  and between Kroll s recording sessions for his animated hit Big Mouth Kroll lent his talents to one of the best films from SXSW. Currently Fresh at 83% on the Tomatometer, Olympic Dreams is just further proof that romantic comedies are not dead and can be fresh and entertaining. It s a case study on the joys of love on a time clock and manages to articulate the unsettling nature of going all in on a romance with a decided expiration date. Kroll and co-star Alexi Pappas chemistry radiates through the intimate tale. Shot on location at the Winter Olympics, this marks the first scripted film approved by the Olympic Committee to shoot during the games. Aided by the guerrilla shooting style, Pappas, Kroll, and director Jeremy Teicher were able to act as a three-person film crew and pulled double duty co-writing the script. She oozes charisma and star quality.” Geoffrey Macnab, Independent (UK)“Earthy and ethereal.” Robbie Collin, Daily Telegraph (UK)“Taylor-Joy steals her scenes — as she tends to — and she supercharges the movie with an ethereal out-of-time-ness that’s borderline ghostly.” Philip de Semlyen, Time Out“Anya Taylor-Joy gets to sizzle and smolder in the way that has made her one of the most exciting rising stars in the business.” Marshall Shaffer, Slashfilm“[She is] cleverly underused in screen time.” David Katz, The Film Stage“Anya Taylor-Joy,  a brilliant actress and notable clothes person, is dazzling.” Glenn Kenny, RogerEbert.comIs this also a proper posthumous showcase for Dame Diana Rigg?“Last Night in Soho makes for a genuinely fitting epitaph for Rigg, who died after the shoot wrapped. It’s a proper showcase for her talents.” Philip de Semlyen, Time Out“This is most definitely a plum swan song for the ’60s icon.” David Jenkins, Little White Lies“She is as commanding and mischievous here as she ever was…what a superb final role for her.” Nicholas Barber, IndieWire“[She] socks it home for what sadly is her final screen appearance. She’s terrific” Pete Hammond, Deadline Hollywood Daily
