The Worst Christmas MoviesFrom painful family reunions to sequels no child asked for to multiple Vince Vaughn and Tim Allen vehicles, these are all the Christmas films that scored less than 30% on the Tomatometer. And to make sure these movies landed on enough critics naughty lists to be deemed truly universally loathed, every entry had to have at least 20 reviews for inclusion. This leaves the likes of Kirk Cameron s Saving Christmas and Nativity 3: Dude, Where s My Donkey?! out in the cold, but makes plenty of space for Home Alone 3, Christmas With the Kranks, and Deck the Halls. 0.78.9 5月喜迎Jacqueline Coley for Rotten Tomatoes: Just out of curiosity why d you want to go back to genre?Jim Jarmusch: Well, I don t even think of it really is a horror film exactly. I think of it as a comedy with some dark threads in it. I m not real analytical. I wanted to make the first idea of it. I wanted to make a film with humor similar to a film we made years ago called Coffee and Cigarettes. It felt like the same job. That s funny because here we call it Coffee, Cigarettes, and Zombies.Jarmusch: I mean that s sort of the impetus for the whole thing so honestly that s good to hear.Tell us about the premiere at Cannes.Jarmusch: It was pretty weird, to be honest. It s like showing our film to some film people, but also like 1,500 executives from L Oréal. It s kind of strange. But that s part of Cannes. Cannes is more and more each year kind of like a convention. I wasn t in favor of it being the opening night film, but the people who financed it, and my producers, I sort of let them all vote, and said, I will defer to what you guys all think. I kind of think they wanted it because they could get our cast on the red carpet. But other than that I don t know the motives. It was interesting. I don t want to just totally dis it. It was weird for me though, I must say. But I was also happy to be there together with members of the cast and Fred Elmes, our DP, and Catherine George, our costume designer. So you know, it was a positive thing on some level. [Laughs] I guess. But that standing ovation was pretty great. Jarmusch: Yeah, it was so fun. For me, the best things I love about Cannes are I like the press conferences when you have your collaborators there and I don t know that was kind of fun. And Bill Murray during the photo call was hilarious and amazing. The Dead Don t Die opens in select theaters on June 14th.

Often in comics, one miniseries or event title leads directly into another comic book series with little or no downtime. And while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier does not intend to pick up any of WandaVision s batons — in fact, it was originally scheduled to bow first — debuting two weeks after that other show s finale offers viewers a little bit of the thrill of picking up the first issue of a follow-up story. That sensation changes as soon as the first episode truly begins and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) reveals a part of what he s been up to for the last few months: fighting dudes like Batroc (Georges St-Pierre) for the U.S. government. So let s catch up with him, James Buchanan Barnes (Sebastian Stan), and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole as we dive into the first episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.Spoiler alert: The following reveals details of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 1, New World Order. Stop here if you have not watched the episode. The Timing Matters(Photo by Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios)As we go further into Phase 4, the end of Avengers: Endgame becomes an important marker of time. WandaVision takes place mere weeks after the Avengers restored roughly 3 billion people to life. Spider-Man: Far From Home occurs the next summer. Black Widow, as it happens, will apparently occur six years prior to Endgame. And the first Falcon episode establishes that some months have gone by.It appears that distance from everyone coming home will be an important plot point. The economic instability suggested in Wanda s (Elizabeth Olsen) first trip to Westview continues to matter and even seems to be contributing to an as-yet-unspecified political upheaval. To be sure, Sam s difficulty in securing a loan is a mostly separate issue — more on that in a moment — but the tense situation Rhodey (Don Cheadle) and a few other government types keep dancing around seems connected to the sudden (and we assume occasionally fatal) return of everyone who was lost when Thanos first snapped his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War.In terms of those whispered economics, we imagine insurance companies went right to work trying to reclaim any death benefits they paid out in the previous five years. The returned also probably expected to go back to work at jobs that either evaporated or found new hires to fill the vacancies. Of course, there s the individual psychological toll to consider, but the instability people keep telling Sam about is the aggregate of those things and is typically expressed in terms of financial and political unrest. And in this episode, we re only seeing the edges of that picture.Nevertheless, the timing still matters as Far From Home presents a world — or at least certain European cities and New York — more or less recovered. Whatever powder keg the generals at Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) memorial expected to explode in the short term sure hasn t a handful of months later.Or, perhaps, Sam and Bucky were instrumental in preventing it from happening. When Even an Avenger Can t Get a Loan(Photo by Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios )One interesting element of the episode is seeing just how accustomed Sam became to the privileges of being an Avenger. To be fair, he lost them as soon as he and Steve defied the Sokovia Accords in 2017, but his expectation that his status as a world-saving superhero would make his loan application a breeze is a bit naive. Nevertheless, it is an interesting way for Marvel Studios as a whole to broach a topic like systemic racism. Each dimension of the scene is fascinating to examine, in fact. Beyond Sam s seeming overconfidence, you have the loan officer unsure of Sam s identity (ouch) and his inability to approve the loan because of the bank s rules, which are built against people like Sam and his sister, Sarah (Adepero Oduye). Then you have her understanding that this was the only way their visit to the bank could transpire — a reality Sam has seemingly forgotten thanks to years in the service and his time in a much more egalitarian organization. Then there is that question: was he receiving income from Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) during the time he worked out of the Avengers HQ? And is his current government contracting something he can claim on the application? We ll also step back a bit and note the bank appears to be offering no sort of amnesty for those who were Blipped. Their five years without jobs or income stands against them. Although, we imagine the bank bends that rules in certain situations. But no matter the reasons for Sam and Sarah to walk out of there defeated — or however an individual viewer may regard the scene — it indicates a growing maturity for the Marvel method while feeling like a natural extension of the Captain America film series philosophy. Now, it s finally pointed to a contemporary situation.Bucky Got a Haircut, Found a Date, and Can t Deal With His Guilt(Photo by Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios )This might be kind of shallow, but we re very glad to see Bucky finally did away with his grungy Winter Soldier hair. Yes, there s definitely a psychological advantage to doing so — he can look in the mirror and not see the monster who haunts his nightmares— but on a purely aesthetic level, Bucky is a much more handsome man with a closer-cropped do.We imagine it is something his therapist encouraged him to do, but it s also possible he chose to do it all on his own in the hopes of reclaiming some part of the man he was before he went to the war. The visual similarity to the dashing lad who showed Jenna Coleman around that science expo in Captain American: The First Avenger is striking. But there is also the sharp contrast of this shattered old man hidden just under Bucky s relatively youthful appearance.Although, we ll admit, it is easier to see that 106-year-old man when he and Yori (Ken Takemoto) go to lunch. It is interesting that these scenes (and his therapy session before them) are the first time we ve really seen Bucky try to cope with everything. Sure, he had that period in Wakanda, but note the way that s minimized in this episode. Those handful of scenes in Black Panther and Infinity War are not about a solider and conscripted killer processing 70 years of trauma. And, really, they couldn t be. Now, though, both we and Bucky have the chance to explore it.(Photo by Marvel Studios)Which makes the date Yori gets for him and his guilt-induced nightmare all the more fascinating. In regards to the former, it make for a fascinating contrast with the cocksure kid in The First Avenger. He absolutely fumbles at every turn and she carries that date until he walks out. But, really, Bucky s in no place to date. He has to finish making amends. At the very least, it would resolve his nightmare. But telling Yori the truth may be the hardest thing he will have to do to complete the task. Sure, Yori may think he wants to know that truth, but what will happen when he finds out this man he s befriended is his son s killer? Bucky has a real ease with him — to the point where the first scene at Izzy s plays as though Yori knows Bucky s real identity — and to lose that bond would be a real setback even if the truth is, ultimately, more important. It s a different sort of jeopardy for the Winter Soldier to experience, but it reflects the sort of show Falcon wants to be. We just hope Bucky gets some sport of peace by the time we get to the end of it.The Portents of Trouble(Photo by Marvel Studios)Curiously, though, the first episode resists the temptation to feature Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) or reveal any aspects of his plan. Although, it s pretty easy to imagine the Flag Smashers as a nascent Masters of Evil. That group, formed by Zemo s father in early issues of The Avengers comic book, will never use that name in the MCU. But it will be interesting to see if The Falcon and the Winter Soldier attempts to employ one of their better known lineups under a different moniker. As it happens, Flag-Smasher is a singular villain in the pages of Marvel Comics and Erin Kellyman briefly appears in the episode as a female version of that character.Of course, because we re assuming a lot this week, we imagine the Flag Smashers are tied to Zemo. But what if they re not? Their aims may be there own while he stays true to his plans as a lone operative. To a certain extent, Zemo is the most successful MCU villain. He tore the Avengers in half, and although they did reform, they are no longer the imperial force he saw when Sokovia fell. But considering the views we ve heard him espouse in trailers, moving his brilliance to ending superheroes entirely could lead to a number of broken costumed folk. Then there s that counterfeit Captain America (Wyatt Russell). Fans of the comics will recognize U.S. Agent on the spot, but we ll hold off on examining him and his comic book counterpart until next week when, presumably, we ll know more about his status in the MCU and what he does to inspire Sam s desire to retake the shield. But for all these uncertainties, at least Sam and Bucky will have allies in the coming fight thanks to people like Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) and First Lieutenant Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), a kid in the army who may have a fascinating destiny as the series wears on.The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres new episodes on Fridays on Disney+.

TV news didn t rest over the weekend — instead, DC Universe, AMC, History, BBC America, and more network shared news with reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Los Angeles on Saturday and Sunday. Read on to find out new intel on Killing Eve, Knightfall, Doom Patrol, and more.TOP STORYHow Doom Patrol Sets a New Tone for DC TVThere’s plenty of source material available for the showrunners of Doom Patrol, DC Universe’s second live-action series, to choose from when breaking stories. Showrunner Jeremy Carver said the series dips into several different versions of the characters in the series.“A great jumping off point is the Grant Morrison run in the ’90s,” Carver told reporters at a Television Critics Association winter press tour panel in Los Angeles over the weekend. “We dip into the Silver Age where we are seeing the Celsius and Lodestone characters. We’re going to see some other characters that have graced over the years, such as Danny the Street. We’re going to see one of my more beloved characters, the Beard Hunter.”While most of DC’s television properties live on the CW, land of the perma-shirtless, sexy twentysomethings, this cast includes decidedly non-twentysomethings Brendan Fraser, Timothy Dalton, and Alan Tudyk. But fans of DC’s CW series will not be put off by the age-diverse cast of Doom Patrol, which premieres Feb. 15.“I think DC has made a decision, quite smartly, to separate the feature world and the television world,” executive producer Sarah Schechter explained. “I don’t think there’s been any confusion, and comic books have always had multiple versions of the same character, created by different writers, different artists, with different adventures. I think it’s really fun, I think that the two work really nicely together, and help fans to experience fully the characters that they love.”What Do Killing Eve and Harry Potter Have in Common (Besides Fiona Shaw)?(Photo by Aimee Spinks/BBC America)New Killing Eve showrunner Emerald Fennell took over for the Emmy-winning series’ second season from creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge (who focused on the second season of her Amazon series, Fleabag, instead). But star Sandra Oh told reporters at the show’s TCA panel that the transition between the two was seamless.“Emerald and Phoebe are friends and had been friends for a long time,” Oh said. “I feel like they have a kinship — the sensibility, where they come from, their humor, their style. And Emerald has her own voice entirely, but it really moves from one hand to a similar hand.”When the series comes back to BBC America on April 7, it’ll pick up approximately 30 seconds after the events of the season 1 finale, and Eve (Oh) and Villanelle (Jodie Comer) will be at odds once again. The duo said that their characters’ relationship will definitely evolve in season 2.“I think what is most interesting about Eve’s stabbing Villanelle at the end of series 1 is Villanelle’s reaction to that, and just how emotionally she perceives that. And I think it both affects them and changes them in a way neither of them are quite expecting,” Comer said.(Photo by Aimee Spinks/BBC America)Added Oh, “And I think you see them vulnerable in slightly different ways. They’ve crossed the line and there’s no going back. I think we have a lot of energy at the beginning of the series, and that pushes both of them into a different place of vulnerability.”The characters are inextricably linked to one another, much like two other famous literary characters from the past 20 years — Harry Potter and He Who Must Not Be Named, of course, where neither can live while the other survives.“I kind of like the Harry Potter theory,” Comer said.Joked Fennell, “So Villanelle’s a Horcrux.”In all seriousness, though, the characters’ true relationship is still being explored.“It’s something that we’re also still figuring out and finding the pieces to as we play out scenes on set, which is actually really exciting, Comer said. I actually really like the fact that we can’t put our finger on it.”New Knightfall Star Mark Hamill on the Ties Between the Knights Templar and Star Wars’ JediThe Star Wars film saga s Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, joins the second season of History’s Knightfall as Talus, a tough, wise, hardened, and devout master who trains new members of the Knights Templar and who spent 10 years being tortured as a POW during a Crusade. Hamill told reporters at a TCA panel for the show that he never intended taking on a project like Knightfall, but was hooked after watching a few episodes.“I just thought, ‘I’ve never been offered anything like this before.’ I mean, I’d never done a character quite like this before — a religious zealot, a man of deep convictions, and, yet, such a paradox, Hamill said. He’s lecturing the troops and he says, ‘Once you become a Templar knight you shall become God’s executioners.’ How could there be such a thing? I thought, ‘Thou shalt not kill.’ But that’s the thing, I was flattered that they would think of me in such a diverse character part, and I thought, ‘Oh, I have to do this. I really do have to do this,’ to be part of a largely British cast and in a period drama like this, which I’d never done before. That’s what I look for: challenges to try not to repeat yourself, and this was certainly a challenge.”It’s no secret that the Knights Templar inspired another secret order Hamill has been a part of (Star Wars’ Jedi, duh). But the ties between the two actually didn’t occur to him until he’d already said yes.“I didn’t really think it through, but the truth of the matter is that I’m sure George Lucas came from so many different inspirations of his own, both from the movies and literature, Hamill said. He was probably thinking more of King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable, because it was more idealized and glamorous, certainly, than the Templar Knights, but there’s no question that his inspiration was rooted, partially, in this mythology.”Pennyworth Creators Explain Why Batman’s Butler Needs an Origin Series(Photo by Epix)Fox’s Batman prequel series, Gotham, is coming to an end this year. But more pre-Batman stories will continue to be told on television in Epix’s Pennyworth, an origin story about the early life of Batman’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth (played by Jack Bannon).“It’s really the chance to make him the center of a story and explain that journey: How did he get from being a young SAS soldier to being a butler in America? And it also gives us a chance to create a real world around him, a world in England that fits the whole DC universe,” executive producer Bruno Heller said. “It’s surprising to all of us the depth and range that you can go to with this character.”While the character’s creator, Bob Kane, set the 1930s as Alfred’s origin, but the Epix series is set in the 1960s. Executive producer Danny Cannon said that as someone from London, that seemed like the most dynamic time period to set a show.“It’s after the war, before things change for good. You could see the change in the air. Things were happening, culturally, artistically, that — it was an inspiring time, I think, that English people always revisit,” Cannon said. “So, to say that that was the foundations of which we were starting with and then making it 13 degrees more DC, 13 degrees darker [is when the series] really came alive for us.”The Story Behind NOS4A2’s Title(Photo by Zach Dilgard/AMC)The people involved in AMC’s new supernatural horror series NOS4A2 know that the title (pronounced like “Nosferatu”) is a little bit out of the ordinary. But the series, which stars Zachary Quinto as a vampire of sorts who feeds on the souls of children, is based on the book of the same name by Joe Hill (who happens to be the son of Stephen King), and series creator Jami O’Brien said the cast and producers are going to do their best to educate the audience about it.“One of the wonderful things about the book is that there are a lot of word games in it. One of the characters is a Scrabble master and librarian. And I think that the title itself, you know, Manx [played by Quinto] talks about it deeper in the book than where we get in the first season, but it’s a joke. And it’s also a puzzle,” O’Brien said. “And I think both of those things speak to the humor of the book and the humor of the character and is kind of a fun twist on the vampire genre, you know? Charlie Manx is a kind of vampire, but he’s not any kind of vampire that we’ve seen before. He doesn’t suck blood. He sucks souls. So, I think it’s a little irreverent, and I think — I’m glad that we have it because I think it’s a lot of fun.”

Ghcxuf (Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)There are few horror sequels that live up to their predecessors, and even fewer third installments that manage to prove their worth. Of the latter, there is one that stands tall and surpasses expectations, despite the fact that the movie that spawned it is widely considered one of the greatest horror movies of all time, not to mention one of the few that was ever nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. We re talking, of course, about The Exorcist III, written and directed by William Peter Blatty (author of the original Exorcist novel and screenplay) and set 17 years after the end of the first film, completely ignoring everything that happened in the famously panned Exorcist II: The Heretic. In contrast to that critical and commercial failure, The Exorcist III successfully pays respect to its originator without drowning in nostalgia and features legendary actors at the top of their game, all while delivering a top notch mystery and quite possibly the best jump scare in horror history. To celebrate the film s 30th anniversary, grab your crucifix and comically oversized scissors and hear us out while we explain why The Exorcist III deserves to be held up as a horror classic, just like the original.IT FEATURES POWERHOUSE PERFORMANCES FROM A LEGENDARY CAST(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)At the center of The Exorcist III is a series of grisly murders eerily similar to the those of a serial killer who died 15 years prior to the events of the film. It s a surprisingly intimate and grounded plot, considering the franchise s previous reliance on supernatural phenomena. Our main entry point into this story is Lieutenant William Kinderman, a minor character from the first Exorcist, here played by George C. Scott. Right out of the gate, The Exorcist III places a bigger focus on characters and realistic dialogue than typical horror film conventions.Scott s Kinderman spends just as much time thinking about and working on the murders as he does bantering with his good friend, Father Dyer (Ed Flanders). William Peter Blatty s dialogue feels lived-in and, enhanced by Flanders calm and warm delivery and Scott s perfectly sarcastic, curmudgeonly line readings, makes viewers feel as if they re eavesdropping on real conversations between old friends. Even as the film s plot grows increasingly dark and spiritual, the actors make the story feel like part of daily life, as if it all actually happened.THE VILLAIN IS HANNIBAL-ESQUE(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)Even when The Exorcist III introduces its villain, who may or may not be the re-animated corpse of a priest possessed by the aforementioned serial killer, the film keeps it grounded by focusing on what s been said and how it s said, rather than what actually happens. Brad Dourif conjures up a masterful performance as the so-called Gemini Killer, menacing his way through vile, gnarly monologues a year before Anthony Hopkins enraptured audiences with the same methods in The Silence of the Lambs.Indeed, the short but crucial time Dourif spends on screen is reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter s presence in Silence, but Dourif separates his performance from Hopkins by playing more into the violence his character represents. He is nearly lyrical in his voice, transforming from casual and even funny to homicidal in mere seconds. The director s cut of the film goes even further, offering not one but two uniquely different yet equally enthralling performances by Dourif. While he alternates with Jason Miller, who reprises the Father Karras role from the first Exorcist here, in his scenes from the theatrical cut, really playing into the violence that lurks within Gemini, the director s cut presents a much more restrained performance that keeps the audience guessing whether they re seeing an actual serial killer or a mere madman who s been psychologically affected by a near-death experience.IT EXPLORES RELIGION AND MORALITY IN AN INCREASINGLY SECULAR WORLD(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)If the first Exorcist was a film about reconnecting with religion in the face of adversity, then The Exorcist III is all about turning one s back on spirituality, about the way madness becomes an invitation to evil. Indeed, Kinderman spends as much time talking to his friend Dyer about the movies he loves as he does questioning the existence of a loving, Christian God in the face of suffering, disease, and murder. The film is constantly looking at characters who have experienced severe trauma and who have gone through crises of faith during the events of the first Exorcist, and explores the Catholic guilt they re struggling with. Kinderman often wonders if he s done enough enough to save Father Karras 15 years ago, enough to stop the killings he s investigating, enough to protect his family and friends. For most of its runtime, The Exorcist III remains somewhat ambiguous as to whether there s anything supernatural going on. The director s cut in particular leaves the question of the Gemini Killer s identity a secret, and it completely redefines the film s ending, depending on how you view it. Is this an act of the devil, or simply human evil? To that end, the film s ending becomes not about embracing religion again, but about a man who — in the face of utter defeat — decides not to wait for a higher power to come down and help him, but to take back control, even if it costs him everything. Evil exists, the movie argues, but it s up to us to keep that evil at bay, because there may just not be an equal force of good to counteract it.IT FEATURES ONE OF THE BEST JUMP SCARES EVER PUT ON FILMIn a surprising move for a 1990s horror film, The Exorcist III features relatively little gore, and it still manages to be utterly terrifying. The film takes more of a David Fincher-styled approach to horror, using noir tropes and filmmaking sensibilities to manipulate the audience s imagination and build and maintain tension. The characters in the film discuss every graphic detail of the murder scenes, but we never really see them. In one monologue, the Gemini Killer explains that the human head can still process what it sees for 20 seconds after it s been decapitated, and he uses that time to show his victims their own lifeless bodies. It s both horrific and effective, without spilling a drop of blood on screen. And yet, none of this compares to the single scene that has arguably become more well known than the film itself — the hospital jump scare. Most of the film s legacy lies with this single scene, which is widely considered one of the best jump scares in history, and for good reason. Throughout the film, Blatty keeps his filmmaking restrained, with few camera movements. He lingers on seemingly inconsequential backgrounds, emphasizing the emptiness surrounding the characters, as he does in this scene, keeping the camera trained on a nondescript hospital hallway. Blatty raises the tension through stillness rather than with sound, making the audience wait just long enough before finally breaking the silence and releasing the tension with a shocking jump scare that works no matter how many times you see it. It s the same approach that The Conjuring films have employed, only done decades earlier, and it remains one of the most effective scares ever produced. There are many reasons why The Exorcist is still considered one of the greatest horror films of all time, and there are valid reasons why The Exorcist III doesn t reach the same heights. But there is no denying the sheer ambition in William Peter Blatty s film, and the choices he made managed to turn an intimate, small-scale story into a horror classic in its own right.Where You Can Watch It NowFandangoNOW (rent/own), Amazon Prime (streaming), iTunes (rent/own), Peacock (free with ads), tubi (free with ads), Vudu (rent/own)The Exorcist III was released on August 17, 1990. 😈😈

That is the highest opening ever for an original “R”-rated film. The 11 “R” films to open higher were either sequels or adapted from popular books. Us is also the biggest opening ever for an original live-action film in March and an original horror film in any month. Only It and last year’s Halloween opener higher. But…can it outgross Get Out s 6 million?Us has already doubled Get Out’s .4 million opening. A good start indeed. It is the 142nd film to open with million or more. Of those previous 141 films, do you know how many failed to reach the 6 million earned by Get Out? Six. (Fifty Shades of Grey, Halloween 2018, Fast and Furious, Quantum of Solace, X-Men: Apocalypse, 2012). That is already 95.7% in favor of Us besting Get Out’s total. The number to watch next week when Dumbo knocks Us back to second is whether its second weekend is over or under million.Rotten Returns: Captive State Takes A Dive(Photo by Focus Features)In its second week, Focus Features’ Captive State could not remain in a Top 10 where four finishers made less than million this weekend. That is because it took an estimated 70.7% drop to only 8,000. The million production that has grossed all of .2 million in 10 days of release is the second film of 2018 to have a 70% drop or higher. (Replicas fell 81.5%.) In 2018 there were six wide releases that dropped as much in their second weekend – Mortal Engines, Assassination Nation, Gringo, Super Troopers 2, Kin, and Once Upon a Deadpool.Top 10 and Beyond: Captain Marvel Hits Top 10 Of MCU(Photo by Disney)One film already carving its path amongst the all-timers at the box office is Captain Marvel. With another million this weekend its total stands at 1 million, the 21st-best total for a film after 17 days of release. Its worldwide total currently stands at 0 million – or – the 7th highest-grossing film based on a Marvel property ever.Among other victories in the Top 10 this week we have How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which is up to 8 million worldwide, just million behind the original (which is still the series’ domestic champion with 7.5 million.) If estimates hold on A Madea Family Funeral it will officially be the third highest-grossing film of Tyler Perry’s directorial career. Finally while the numbers are not giant for Five Feet Apart, a 34% drop from last week means the million production has now grossed over million and should get itself at least over million when all is said and done. This Time Last Year: Pacific Rim Led, But Would Soon Fall(Photo by Warner Bros)One of the biggest bombs of 2018, nevertheless, opened to no. 1 this weekend. Pacific Rim Uprising began with .1 million and later finished with just under million total domestically. Black Panther was finally knocked back to second place with another million as it had amassed over 1 million after six weekends. Also opening with Sherlock Gnomes (.6 million), Paul Apostle of Christ (.1 million), Midnight Sun ( million) and Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane which missed the top ten with .7 million. Leading the per-theater-average charge was Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs (,011 on each of its 27 screens for .62 million.) Fifty Shades Freed also managed to finally cross the 0 million mark.On the Vine: Elephants and a Beach Bum(Photo by Dumbo)Disney releases the first of their 2019 live-action remakes with Dumbo. Tim Burton’s 2010 adaptation of Alice in Wonderland was the biggest success of his career and Dumbo could very well end up being his second highest global success. Also opening wide is PureFlix’s abortion drama, Unplanned, the first “R”-rated release for the Christian-based company. Finally, Neon releases Harmony Korine’s The Beach Bum with Matthew McConaughey. The Full Top 10: March 22-24Us (2019) 93% – .25 million (.25 million total)Captain Marvel (2019) 79% – .02 million (1.49 million total)Wonder Park (2019) 34% – .00 million (.47 million total)Five Feet Apart (2019) 53% – .75 million (.46 million total)How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019) 90% – .53 million (5.75 million total)Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral (2019) 11% – .50 million (.88 million total)Gloria Bell (2018) 91% – .80 million (.49 million total)No manches Frida 2 (2019) 13% – .78 million (.62 million total)The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (2019) 84% – .13 million (3.32 million total)Alita: Battle Angel (2019) 61% – .01 million (.87 million total)
