mation: The medium has long opened eyes to whole new worlds, like Disney s underseen Treasure Planet. Or the trippy French classic Fantastic Planet. And even the full-length Daft Punk cosmic fantasy Interstella 5555, produced by Leiji Matsumoto, godfather of the animated space opera. His epic movies like Arcadia of My Youth and the two Galaxy Express films don t have Tomatometers so we didn t include them, but they re currently streaming on Amazon Prime. American Gods executive producer–author promises transcendent season 2, Outlander season 5 update, Starz introduces racy new millennial sex comedy, the Crawleys get supersized in Downton Abbey movie, and more.TOP STORYCaitriona Balfe s Claire Fraser Will Have a New Role in Outlander Season 5(Photo by Starz)Caitriona Balfe is just weeks away from filming season 5 of Outlander. Since season 4 used elements from the fourth and fifth books in the series, it sounds like season 5 will already hit book six, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, which leads up to 1776 in North Carolina — quite a significant year in American history. Before heading off to film, Balfe told Rotten Tomatoes a few more details about about Claire Fraser s journey in the new season.“Last season, her doctor side in some ways is put to one side,” Balfe said. “We got to see little glimpses of it. I think now that they’re going to settled in Fraser’s Ridge, it’s a real opportunity to establish herself in getting that kind of professional side of her life back in an order that is very fulfilling for her. So I think that’s exciting too.”The Fraser clan is growing in season 5 as Brianna (Sophie Skelton) has a baby whose health complications may require a return to the present for medical care.“[Claire s] a grandmother this season, which I think is a really interesting time in a woman’s life,” Balfe said. “It’s great to be able to explore that and have an extended family be around and also to deepen this marriage and this relationship in new ways because their life now is very new. This is a new role they’re taking on. It’s a new place and they’ve settled into this new community so I think it’s really interesting.”The season will cover a fraught time for both the country and the Fraser family, as Claire and her beloved, Jamie (Sam Heughan), are on the front lines of the birth of America as well as their grandchild.“I think there’s a lot of interesting things that we’re going to get to explore in terms of family, in terms of loyalties, especially in politics,” Balfe said. “It’s very new to me, all of this kind of time in American history. To understand the intricacies of what was going on in America in that time during its infancy, the people that were coming into the country, who their allegiances lay with. It’s all really interesting stuff, and it’s very new so that makes it really exciting.”Despite Behind-the-Scenes Drama, American Gods Season 2 Feels Like the Same Show The drama behind the scenes of Starz s American Gods has been well-documented — original showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green departed after writing about half the scripts for season 2, with Jesse Alexander appointed as new showrunner two months later — but creator (and book author) Neil Gaiman told reporters that viewers shouldn t notice any difference in quality between the two seasons. I was on the show before Bryan and Michael came on as showrunners; I got to watch that being made, he said. I got to watch them leave and Jesse come on and take season 2. From my perspective, the thing that has been made as season 2 feels like the same show that we had for season 1. Part of that is because we have amazing actors, part of that is because a lot of the people didn t change.(Photo by Starz) It still looks and feels like American Gods, he continued.  It s definitely taken a while to get season 2 out, but it takes a while to get good things made and I think we d all rather have it good than have it quicker — although we d rather have it quicker too. The Crawleys Turn Volume to 11 on Downton Abbey Movie(Photo by Nick Briggs/Carnival Film & Television Limited 2014)The Downton Abbey movie hits theaters on September 20, and its stars are still keeping as frustratingly tight-lipped as ever when it comes to discussing the upcoming film. I don t even know what I can tell you, star Laura Carmichael (a.k.a. Edith Crawley) told USA Today and a small group of reporters on Tuesday. What can I remember has been released? There’s some new exciting people, which was dreamy. New cast members which you’ll love and enjoy. Unfortunately, that s just about all Carmichael, who next stars in Starz s drama The Spanish Princess, could say about what happens, though she did reveal that she thinks everyone will be pleased that we’ve upped the ante. Turned the volume up. Whether it s the end of the road for the Crawleys and their staff is something only creator Julian Fellowes can address. I can’t speak for other people, Carmichael said. But I can say we all had a dreamy time, it was lush. SpongeBob SquarePants Turns 20SpongeBob SquarePants celebrates its 20th birthday this summer. Like other beloved animated series (including The Simpsons and Family Guy), the series has managed to remain in the zeitgeist for multiple decades (though SpongeBob is a show both kids and adults can enjoy together). How, exactly, has the Nickelodeon series managed to remain so topical? Man, that’s the million-dollar question, said Bill Fagerbakke, who voices SpongeBob s pal Patrick Star. I don’t know if there’s a formula. There’s something mercurial and enigmatic about it. And I’ve come to think it’s a magical combination of shapes, colors, and sounds. We don’t know! Rodger Bumpass, who voices SpongeBob s frenemy Squidward, likens the series to Looney Tunes. They’re both short cartoons, but different ages of people and viewers get different things. Little kids get something out of it cause it’s colorful and it’s animated. And then the little older guys get a little bit more stuff out of it, and adults get something out of it too. And funny is funny, so I think that’s one of the reasons it has struck a chord, Bumpass said.SpongeBob himself, a.k.a. Tom Kenny, thinks some of the magic of his character comes from the fact that everyone wants to root for him and he s avoided any type of controversy. SpongeBob really does seem to have this charmed life and this magic power where people, you know, they didn’t just like it a little bit. They started to really like it and love it, and it found its way into the fabric of people’s lives, and it kept finding new life in new ways like memes and things like that, Kenny said. And even on the couple of occasions where there’s been something a little controversial that’s happened, SpongeBob still winds up winning. SpongeBob still winds up on top. For example, the latest Super Bowl halftime show was a tad controversial, but people didn t take any umbrage with the fact that SpongeBob made an appearance.Said Kenny, People get mad at the NFL. They don’t get mad at SpongeBob. You know what I mean? They don’t hate on SpongeBob. They hate on Maroon 5. The Rook EP Explains Why British People Are Good at Spy DramasThe new Starz drama The Rook, based on the book of the same name by Daniel O Malley, is both a tense British spy thriller and a supernatural drama. When Myfanwy Thomas (Emma Greenwell) wakes up in the rain next to London s Millennium Bridge, she can t remember who she is or how she wound up next to a pile of dead bodies. But she soon learns that she s a high-ranking official in the Checquy, a secret organization involving people with paranormal abilities. The London-set series was run by two American showrunners, Lisa Zerling and Karyn Usher, though it stars a mostly British cast (save for Olivia Munn). British executive producer Stephen Garrett said the series works because his people are experts in the spy genre. The Rook denotes [Myfanwy s] rank in the organization, and clearly there are bishops and queens who are higher than her, but I think what drew us all to this is it s a spy show with supernatural elements. The great thing about spy shows, and why the British are good at them, [is because] we re naturally duplicitous, we re very good at lying, and we love secrets, Garrett joked. So if you re a spy you can t tell your friends or your loved ones what it is you do, and I think if you have supernatural powers, you can t tell your loved ones what it is you have. So you have secrets to the power of 10, and that s just a heady mix for a great drama. Maybe Don t Watch the Racy Now Apocalypse With Your Parents(Photo by Starz)Gregg Araki s new Starz drama, Now Apocalypse, is a sex-infused, surreal adventure about stoner twentysomethings navigating the dating world and Los Angeles in general. Ulysses (Avan Jogia) also starts having premonitory dreams, causing him to wonder if there s a dark conspiracy going on around him or he s just smoking too much weed. There s a lot of nudity and sex, but star Jogia told reporters that he thinks the show will attract a multi-generational audience. As he pointed out, the older generation, quote unquote, grew up during sex lib. But if you re thinking about watching the show with your parents, whether that s a good decision or not really depends on how sexually liberated you and your parents are. The show sounds very punk rock, and attuned toward sex and sexuality, Araki said. We have BDSM, and we have water sports, and we have a sex club and a sex orgy, and it s like Whoa, that show sounds nuts. But when I watched it for the first time, there s a real sweetness to it. And this is a testament to the best cast in the whole universe — they really imbue these characters with such vanity and such authenticity. The whole show is grounded in these characters. They re super-sweet and super lovable. It s really about these characters and what they re going through. It s a lot, he admitted — especially in a show he described as Girls, Sex and the City meets Twin Peaks with an alien — but he’s not including those moments for shock value. I m not interested in titillation or making porn, Araki said. It s really about those moments of character truth, and I think that s the strongest thing about the show. Dennis Quaid Heads to NetflixNetflix has added Dennis Quaid to its ever-expanding roster of talent. The veteran actor is set to star in a new comedy series from Everybody Loves Raymond writer Tucker Cawley called Merry Happy Whatever. The series, according to Netflix, takes place in the weeks around Christmas as a father is thrown for a loop when his youngest daughter comes home for Christmas with a new boyfriend. In this week s episode of What If ?, What If Thor Was An Only Child? , a very merry-sounding Thor is making new friends. The above exclusive clip from Wednesday s episode shows the Crown Prince of Asgard offering libations, crudités, or baked goods to a woman he s just met – Dr. Jane Foster, of Earth. Just moments before, he s surrounded by a group of Skrulls who amuse the Asgardian royal by shape-shifting into him, one at a time.We also get a cutaway to the Grandmaster enjoying a bite of cake.As with other episodes in this season of What If ?, Marvel s Twilight Zone-like look at what might have become of certain MCU characters and plot points had things gone differently, the voices for the characters are all supplied by the actors who play them on the big screen: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Rachel House, and Jeff Goldblum all star in the episode.Aside form this snippet, little is known about the episode – or whether it will keep up the series hot streak: What If ? is currently Certified Fresh at 93% on the Tomatometer. She’s attempting to find a work-life balance while dealing with budget cuts, her colleagues’ complaints about the students, the students’ complaints about her colleagues, and a best friend reeling from the loss of his wife.Peet told Rotten Tomatoes that, as an actress who is turning 50 next year, “I m really interested in the idea of my own irrelevance.”But, as far as subject matter for a series, Peet said she was interested in the fact that “everyone s talking about the humanities are dead” as well as the “intergenerational tension” where “you have these young idealists and then you have middle-aged folks like me whose idealism has tempered a little bit.”An example: Holland Taylor plays Joan Hambling, a tenured professor being passively aggressively pushed out of her job. Unlike her fellow senior academics who are male, her office has been moved to a dingy corner of the gym with no WiFi. When she goes to make a Title IX complaint, she dresses down the woman doing the intake form for wearing revealing shorts to a job where she has to take in very serious stories of assault and harassment.(Photo by Eliza Morse / Netflix)“I very much identified with her outrage,” Taylor said of playing Joan. “And I’m at an age where I would. As far as the sexism early in her career, she would never have been aware of it as that. That’s the point, kind of. It all snuck up on her with this realization while a younger character — a colleague, who is 30 — is well aware of that.”The crossroads that the school’s English department finds itself in is particularly laid out in the relationship dynamic between Nana Mensah’s professor Yaz McKay and Bob Balaban’s professor Elliot Rentz. She’s a rising star — not just in the department, but in the profession as a whole — who teaches packed classes with titles like Sex and the Novel and encourages Hamilton-like interpretations of Moby Dick. His lectures echo through his empty auditorium to the few nearly comatose students who bother to show up for class. He’s also her tenure advisor.Mensah consulted with two friends from this world — one a working academic; another who dropped out of her PhD program — and says she learned just how “political” and “cutthroat” this world is inside its ivy-coated towers. When asked about finding the humor in a story that could be construed as an attack on ageism, Balaban said, “It is somewhat funny to be wedded to the past and not be able to see the future.“It can be a tragic situation or it can be a slightly funny, odd situation, which I think is the is the pleasure of this particular series.,” he said, adding that “it s wildly up-to-date and current with what s going on and cancel culture is not a very popular subject, even though it s everywhere to be seen … It’s not a boring idea. That is actually grounds for real excitement, because it pits so many people against each other.”(Photo by Eliza Morse / Netflix)An embodiment of so many of these things is English professor, Bill Dobson (Jay Duplass). A beloved professor at the university going through his own emotional turmoil, he makes the mistake of speaking off the cuff during a lecture and punctuating his rant with a Sieg Heil — definitely not the best move to do in a room full of kids with smartphones.“I don t want to give my interpretation, because I think that moment is up to a lot of interpretation in terms of what was running through his brain at that point in time,” Duplass said of the Nazi salute scene. “But I definitely think a certain dose of white male privilege is also involved.”What the story of The Chair is not meant to be is a conversation on tokenism, Oh said. Ji-Yoon got the job based on her own merits and worked hard to achieve all she has done in her career.“I don t think that that s what we re doing,” Oh said. “I think, if anything, we re examining the struggles to actually make change. And that is extremely relevant. And we re doing it in a comedic way, where you re just really going through the day-to-day life of someone who s trying to make that change.”There is no news of a second season of The Chair yet, but Mensah argued that there’s no shortage of material still to explore.“It s such a rich world with such crazy personalities,” she said. “We can turn the page on this particular chapter and keep going and keep exploring.”The Chair is now streaming on Netflix.

(Click to enlarge.)After five grueling rounds of competition that laid waste to holiday classics like It s a Wonderful Life, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and even the perennial is-it-a-Christmas-movie-or-not fan favorite Die Hard, we can finally crown a winner for our Christmas Movie Showdown. In the end, the Jon Favreau/Will Ferrell comedy Elf lost by a convincing 20% margin to Home Alone, which, incidentally, also celebrated its 30th anniversary back in November. To go with that milestone, we can now unofficially officially declare that Home Alone is the Greatest Christmas Movie Ever!As always, big thanks to everyone who participated in the various polls, and we hope this bit of silly fun helped in some way to brighten what is certainly an unusual holiday season for most. 4. 呼朋唤友 随心所欲
1. How soon will Wolverine show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?(Photo by 20th Century Fox)Throughout 2018, people including Feige insisted Marvel could not even begin to cook up ideas for the X-Men or Fantastic Four until the deal for the merger officially closed. There was also some talk about keeping the Fox-controlled Marvel assets separate, but that notion was later dismissed by Disney CEO Bob Iger.“There shouldn’t be two Marvels,” he said back in September.Since we previously assumed a lingering Fox contingent might delay Marvel Studios’ control of the characters, we counted out an X-Men stinger in Avengers: Endgame. Instead, we predicted Logan’s adamantium claws might appear in a 2021 mid-credits stinger scene. Now, we think it is possible — though still highly unlikely — the characters might be referenced in a singular image or a word. (It would have to be something easily shot in the next week or two as the studio could not use any of the characters or iconography until now.)But even if Marvel manages to add a Fantastic Four or X-Men tease to Endgame, that stinger moment is all we will see of the characters for some time. Marvel Studios’ 2020 output inches closer to production even if the company declines to reveal their schedule until after Endgame’s release. At this point, we know The Eternals, Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and sequels for Doctor Strange and Black Panther are in the pipeline. Presumably, three of those projects will fill the 2020 release dates. Of course, the studio has altered its plan before, bumping Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and a proposed Inhumans film to secure a place for Spider-Man: Homecoming. With that in mind, it is possible the first Marvel Studios X-Men or Fantastic Four film could happen in 2021, particularly if Feige ever gets back to Legion’s Noah Hawley about his Doctor Doom script.2. Will Dark Phoenix and New Mutants Still Be Released? While Dark Phoenix will hit theaters this June, the fate of New Mutants is more tenuous. Though still slated for an August 2 release, the film’s planned 2018 reshoots (that would change more than 50 percent of the film and introduce a new character to the story) reportedly never took place and are no longer scheduled to occur.Until the deal closed, Fox had to abide by its original agreement with Marvel Entertainment and release X-Men films at regular intervals. It also had to plan for a future in which it and Disney remained separate entities just in case the deal fell through or was delayed beyond the summer. Around this time last year, both films were pushed back to accommodate reshoots. But considering New Mutants’ additional photography never took place, it is fair to wonder if Fox delayed both films to save on development costs for other X-Men projects Marvel may eventually cancel. There is plenty to suggest this was the case and it may lead to New Mutants losing its theatrical release.3. What Other Marvel Films Did Fox Have In Development?(Photo by Mary Evans/Twentieth Century Fox / Marvel Comics/Ronald Grant/Everett Collection)Under the spirit of “business as usual” in the event the deal fell through, Fox planned to expand its output of Marvel-based films to three projects per year. The plan included more X-Men sequels while branching out with lesser known characters. One project centering on fan-favorite mutant Kitty Pryde was announced and would see Deadpool director Tim Miller returning to the X-fold. Said to be based on Uncanny X-Men #143, the film would focus on Kitty’s struggle against a N’Garai demon while spending a lonely Christmas night in the X-Mansion. Comic-book writer Brian Michael Bendis was said to be adapting the issue into a feature script for Miller. Neither has commented on the project’s prospects.Though little has been said since word first broke about the project, James Franco was set to star in a film focusing on X-Factor favorite Jamie Madrox, a.k.a. The Multiple Man. Franco’s real-life troubles may have sent this one to the back-burner, but considering X-Men characters must now compete with Shang-Chi and The Eternals for one of Marvel Studios’ coveted release dates, expect any solo X-Men outings to be a late 2020s development. Channing Tatum’s long-delayed Gambit film is also more than likely kaput. As we mentioned above, Noah Hawley signed on to develop a feature film for the greatest of Marvel villains, Doctor Doom. Recently, the Legion FX series executive producer revealed Feige asked about the draft he completed some time ago. Unfortunately, Hawley has not heard from the Marvel Studios boss since. But since we all want Doom to face off against the heroes, we hope this one works out. Finally, X-Force, the Deadpool 2 spin-off, was expected to begin shooting in late 2018 under the direction of Bad Times at the El Royale’s Drew Goddard. With cast members like Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, and Ryan Reynolds reprising their Deadpool 2 roles, it seemed set to become the last Fox-produced X-Men film. Sadly, Goddard refused to comment on the project following news of the acquisition’s imminent closure. And with X-Force co-creator Rob Liefeld openly discussing the film’s demise on Twitter, we’re going to assume this one is also toast.4. What About Deadpool 3?Feels like the first day of ‘Pool. pic.twitter.com/QVy8fCxgqr Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) March 19, 2019As Reynolds once joked, they may skip the third film entirely and go straight to Deadpool 4 or 5. The actor, who co-wrote the sequel with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, also said the narrative weight of taking everything away from the character in order to build him up again will only lead to diminishing returns. In light of that, he offered the possibility of playing Deadpool as a supporting character in films like X-Force. Reese and Wernick, meanwhile, have said they’d love to team Deadpool up with Spider-Man — a pairing so popular it had its own comic book.It is possible Reynolds was just cushioning himself should Marvel Studios choose not to continue with his vision of Deadpool — it is a PG-13 production house, after all — but it may also be a savvy ploy to negotiate with the company for a sweet multi-picture contract in which Deadpool shows up, does something wacky, and disappears again. It is certainly possible to tone down some of Wade Wilson’s antics for the MCU, which is what the Christmas release of a PG-13 Deadpool 2 called Once Upon a Deadpool proved.Meanwhile, Iger once told investors it is possible to carve out an R-rated niche for Marvel to allow for more D

(Photo by Mitchell Haaseth/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images)On April 9, 2009, NBC debuted a new workplace sitcom from The Office creator Greg Daniels and executive producer Mike Schur called Parks and Recreation. Set in the small town of Pawnee, Indiana, the series followed the government employees working in the city s parks and recreation department — particularly the eager do-gooder Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and her gruff mustachioed boss, Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman). While it took a season or so for the show to settle into itself, the series soon became, along with The Office, one of NBC s most beloved sitcoms, introducing audiences to the rest of the eccentric residents of Pawnee and the civil servants doing their best to keep order in the city. On the tenth anniversary of its debut, let s take a look back at the show s main cast members and what they ve been up to in the decade since its premiere.Like this? 3.

Next would be Kitty Foyle, which is the movie that Ginger Rogers won her Oscar for. She is obviously mostly remembered for a singing and dancing star from the Astaire and Rogers musicals, but this is a melodrama – there was no singing or dancing. It basically tells the story of a girl who grows up on the wrong side of the tracks and falls in love with a wealthy heir to a big Philadelphia fortune, and has to navigate romance and class and all of these different issues. It s a very conservative film and it s very didactic. It s extremely problematic in a lot of ways, but I find it fascinating. The performance that she gives, though… I think a lot of times, some of these great stars, they win an Oscar for a movie that s not their best work, or it s sort of given as a consolation prize for them not winning for something that is a classic. I think people think that about Kitty Foyle because nobody watches it any more, and people only remember Ginger Rogers as a dancer, but her performance in this movie is stunning. The character she s playing has to sort of take on different personas over the course of her life and with different people in her life. The way that Ginger Rogers performs those unique and distinct versions of the same person is just really incredible. Obviously, there s a huge degree of difficulty to a career based on singing and dancing. I wrote about this in my book, but there s that old line about Ginger Rogers that She had to do everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in heels. The whole idea of her stardom is about how much harder it is for a woman to do the same things that a man does. But all of that said, I think there s a degree of difficulty to this performance that is the kind of thing that is really, true great acting and great stardom, but it s the kind of thing where the labor doesn t show, and so people don t talk about it in that way.

As more and more people are compelled to practice social distancing and encouraged to stay home, as movie theaters temporarily shutter their doors, and as studios continue to pull their scheduled 2020 films off the release calendar, we ve decided to reformat this weekly Critics Consensus column to focus on titles that are newly available on the home entertainment market. With that in mind, our list of digital new releases this week includes a fresh-from-the-theaters Pixar movie, the latest Star Wars adventure, a Razzie-winning Broadway adaptation, and a trio of brand new theatrical releases that are being made digitally available way ahead of schedule. See below for the most notable titles hitting VOD this week.

亚博APP下载网址 Friday s portion of the Television Critics Association press day got political, thanks to projects like a Hillary Clinton documentary coming to Hulu and National Geographic s powerful film The Cave. Other news out of the day included the iffy future of Hulu projects Veronica Mars and Castle Rock, as well as Zoë Kravitz dishing on her new Hulu show High Fidelity.TOP STORYHIGH FIDELITY GENDER-FLIPS 2000 MOVIE WITH STAR ZOË KRAVITZHulu s High Fidelity hits just in time for Valentine s Day, serving up a gender-flipped rom-com re-do of the 2000 film starring John Cusack and Lisa Bonet, who happens to be the mother of series star Kravitz.Kravitz is having an excellent year so far, between celebrating a Golden Globe nomination for season 2 of Big Little Lies, her recently announced role as DC Universe s new Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ 2021 film The Batman, and this promising Hulu series from executive producers Sarah Kucserka, Veronica West, Scott Rosenberg, and Kravitz herself. The show, which tackles lead character Rob s love life and a theme of gentrification, relocates from England (in Nick Hornby’s book) and Chicago (in the movie) to the Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn. We watch a lot of romantic comedies with female leads, West told the TCA gathering, and the problem always seems to be you can t find the right man, or you re desperate to get married, or you re self-destructive in some way. And like, when a man gets to be the lead, the problems are internal and it s just like — it was interesting for us to put that in a woman s point of view and let her issues with romance really just be about learning how to figure out herself and not finding Mr. Right. You know, there s lots of Mr. Rights in the show, which is part of what makes it so much fun. (Photo by Amy Sussman/Getty Images)For Kravitz s part, the actress pulled some strings as executive producer to make the comedy happen. We had Colleen Atwood do the costumes, who is a legend. I had worked with her on Fantastic Beasts, and we were having a really hard time finding someone to do the costumes and that was a really important element to the story and the show to me. And I had called Colleen asking her if she knew someone that would do it because I knew she wouldn’t do it because she’s — she did f ing Silence of the Lambs. Like, you know, it’s not happening. And I called her and said, Do you know someone? and that we need someone and it was starting really soon. And she said, I love High Fidelity. I love you. I’ll do it. And we were all in shock  I called [executive producer Scott Rosenberg], and I said, I think I found someone that you’ll be happy with — because he wasn’t happy with anybody — and he said, Who? And I said, Colleen Atwood. She wants to do it. And it got really quiet. And then he went, Why?' Kravitz said she and Atwood found costumes for her character at vintage stores. I stole a lot of s . I have a lot of the clothes from High Fidelity,” she confessed. I’m really into the Hawaiian shirts. We did a lot of really cool Hawaiian shirts, and Colleen designed this really great leather jacket that was kind of an homage to the jacket that Cusack wears in the film. We did a Hawaiian shirt with a leather jacket with a kind of pleated school skirt, and that was really cool. Music posed a different kind of challenge for the rom-com TV reboot. We spent a lot of money on music, Kravitz said. Every song that we really wanted, we got. And every song we couldn’t get that was replaced, the song that it was replaced with ended up being the perfect song. We were really lucky. And we had amazing support from ABC and Hulu in terms of everyone knew how important the music — music is a character on the show. So she needs like a trailer and a makeup office – A reporter couldn t help noticing that Kravitz s short pixie cut was a much different look than the long braids her character wears in the series. I cut my hair for Batman, so it’s short now, Kravitz explained, insisting that her hair in the series was definitely not a wig.Earlier in the week, Kravitz appeared on Ellen DeGeneres show, where she talked about training for her Batman role and meeting with a famous former Catwoman while sitting with the Big Little Lies talent at the Golden Globes earlier this month. I was sitting at the Globes with David Kelley — because he writes our show — and [his wife] Michelle Pfeiffer. And I was bowing to the queen. I m nervous to be in her presence now, she told DeGeneres, who asked her about costume fittings. We ve had many. It s going really well. It s very exciting. And I ve been training a ton, too, which has been great and hard I come home just limping every day. It s actually kind of pathetic. Television. Courtesy: Everett Collection)Hulu s summer release of a fourth season of Veronica Mars five years after the Kristen Bell drama got a film version and even longer after the series left The CW caused a strong fan reaction — both because of a shocking ending and the decision to drop the episodes several days before its intended release date, thus screwing up rewatch plans for fans were binging old episodes on Hulu. Nevertheless, there was almost immediate talk as to whether there would be another season.Hulu senior v.p. of scripted originals Craig Erwich had a non-answer to this question when asked during his TCA executive session. I think for fans of the show, who have been lifelong fans, the opportunity to check back in with Veronica Mars and see where she is in her life was really exciting [and] it generated a lot of social conversation, he said. You know, what’s interesting is that collection, that kind of journey of Veronica Mars in terms of the television episodes and in terms of her life as a character, exists on Hulu now and will exist for a long time. So there’s still a lot of Veronica Mars for people to check out. We’re encouraging people to continue to watch it. People are continuing to discover it and and right now, we think that’s a really satisfying, narrative experience for them. CASTLE ROCK ALSO IN QUESTIONErwich was similarly vague about the future of Castle Rock, Hulu s original series based on characters and themes in author Stephen King’s work. We have not made any further decisions on Castle Rock. Again, that show recently launched. People are still continuing to discover it, he said, adding that I thought that Lizzy Caplan [who joined the show in season 2] was revelatory in her portrayal of Annie Wilkes. It was a whole new take on that character, and I thought very brave of her given what Kathy Bates had done [in the movie Misery]. You know, Lizzy was really able to find her own way into that. HULU PROMISES PATTON OSWALT’S M.O.D.O.K. PUTS HILARIOUS SPIN ON MARVEL SUPERVILLAIN(Photo by Marvel.com)Click image to see full comic coverIn more positive news, Erwich said that he s really excited after having seen quite a few episodes of animated series Marvel s M.O.D.O.K., which stands for Mobile Organism Designed Only for Killing. The character is described by Marvel as a massive-headed being possessing superhuman intelligence and extraordinary psionic powers. He s an egomaniacal supervillain trying to retain control over both his evil organization and his demanding family.Erwich added that star, executive producer, and co-writer Patton Oswalt is a lifelong Marvel fan and was obsessed with the character of M.O.D.O.K., so for him to finally get his hands on that character and for he and [co-writer and fellow executive producer] Jordan Blum to do what they’ve always wanted to do with it, has been great to see. They are taking a whole new perspective, and a very funny one, on what it means to be a comic book villain, which is really special. At last winter s press tour, Hulu announced that M.O.D.O.K. would be part of an animated lineup that also includes Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, Marvel’s Tigra Dazzler Show, and Marvel’s Howard The Duck. The four originals will culminate in a special, Marvel’s The Offenders.Erwich also said he s seen the first four hours of upcoming Marvel series Helstrom and, I’m really excited about it. It is a definitely a different corner of the Marvel universe in terms of its horror. HILLARY CLINTON S ADVICE FOR VIEWERS OF HER DOCUMENTARY(Photo by Erik Voake/Getty Images for Hulu)Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was also at Hulu s TCA press day, joining filmmaker Nanette Burstein to promote their four-part documentary, Hillary. The former presidential hopeful was unflinching when asked what she hopes voters will take away from her documentary when it premieres March 6 — which, she noted, was after Super Tuesday and may mean we ll have a clearer vision of who will be the Democratic nominee for president in November. I think the most important message is, we are — and I say we, because that’s the side that I’m on  I am on the side of an inclusive, generous, open-hearted country that faces up to the future, tries to bring people together to make difficult choices, of which we have many facing us, and that we’re in a real struggle with a form of politics that is incredibly negative, exclusive, mean-spirited. It’s going to be up to every voter, not only people who vote in Democratic primaries, to recognize this is no ordinary time, she said. This is an election that will have such profound impact. So take your vote seriously, and for the Democratic voters, try to vote for the person you think is most likely to win because at the end of the day, that is what will matter. And not just the popular vote, but the Electoral College, as we’ve learned. The film airs on the network on January 25, and director Feras Fayyad was scheduled to attend, but was unable to, according to a statement provided by the film s producer Sigrid Dyekjær. We were hoping that Feras Fayyad could be here with us today,  Dyekjær wrote. As has been widely reported, in December Feras was denied an extended U.S. visa by the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen and has missed several industry events, including the IDA Awards and Cinema Eye Awards. While he has waited to meet with the embassy, Fayyad found out that his aunt’s house was bombed and his parents’ and childhood home was in the line of fire in Syria.  The director traveled to Turkey to be near his family, but was arrested by immigration police in Copenhagen when he attempted to return, Dyekjær wrote. Feras is a filmmaker, but first and foremost he’s a Syrian. The Cave is a very personal film. It is dedicated to his seven sisters. To his daughter. To the unnamed women he witnessed being jailed and tortured in Syrian prisons because they’re women,  Dyekjær wrote. His voice is important and it deserves to be heard, now more than ever. After all, we are talking about a brilliant filmmaker who is now a two-time Academy Award nominee — and my dear friend. DEALS: JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS AND APPLE(Photo by Imeh Akpanudosen/Getty Images; Justin M. Also, many thanks and kudos to my representatives for structuring the deal in such a way that I am paid in AirPods.”Hulu has also signed a multi-year streaming deal with DreamWorks Animation. Hulu announced the first three premieres to be Hulu Originals in 2020: Madagascar: A Little Wild based on the film franchise, TrollsTopia from the Trolls universe, and The Mighty Ones, featuring a twig, a pebble, a leaf, and a strawberry that live in an unkempt backyard where the humans are gods.Like this?
