(Photo by Summitt Entertainment/courtesy Everett Collection.)All Twilight Saga Movies, Ranked by TomatometerRe-visit the series that launched Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson (not to mention vegetarian vampires) into the international spotlightlight! From 2008 and 2012, The Twilight Saga was a pop culture fixture, with the hype, secrecy, and buzz for each movie on par with the latest comic book blockbuster. The critics may not have been on board for each one, but audiences sure showed up, and now we re looking back on everything from the original Twilight to Breaking Dawn as we rank all Twilight Saga movies by Tomatometer! Everything old is new again when The 100 returns to The CW with its sixth season on Tuesday. But that s one of star Lindsey Morgan s favorite aspects of the sci-fi series, she said when Rotten Tomatoes visited the set of the series back in November. We really concentrate on world building and building these new environments and then we blow them up, she said.Indeed, after crash-landing the titular group of 100 teens on a post-apocalyptic Earth in its first season, the show has specialized in upending its status quo each year. Its core team of teen miscreants-turned-explorers faced new difficult situations each season as they attempted to make life thrive on a radiation-soaked Earth. Season 5 sped forward six years as some retreated to a space station above Earth and others defended the last safe zone on the planet. But when that attempt failed, the survivors had only one choice left: find a new planet.Which, of course, they did. A planet a previous Earth ship set out for and, presumably, will support human life.(Photo by Sergei Bachlakov/The CW)Details on this brave new world are still deeply classified, but Bob Morley, who plays key survivor Bellamy, suggested fans can gather something about the new planet based on what happened at the end of last season. And while there is a sense that the show has been reborn, he noted the characters may also experience a sense of déjà vu as they explore the new world. This planet is completely different from the Earth we knew, said Marie Avgeropoulos, who plays Bellamy s sister, Octavia. There are a lot of sci-fi elements to this planet. It makes it really challenging to survive. Instead of various rival clans as seen on Earth, she said the survivors will encounter one set of new people immersed in the new sci-fi trappings. The planet’s gonna be nuts, said Richard Harmon, who plays ne er-do-well Murphy. It will suspiciously look like Vancouver, but they did a great job giving the planet a cool look this season. The new status quo sees the survivors reunited on the same side after years of personal and political conflicts. As Morley noted, Bellamy and Clarke (Eliza Taylor) will have to deal with being leaders of the same group once again despite all the time they were on opposite sides of warring factions. They have to take up that mantra from Monty: Do better,' he said.In the season 5 finale, Monty (Christopher Larkin) stayed awake aboard the Eligius IV while the others went into cryosleep hoping to wait out the decade required for Shadow Valley to become habitable again. Unfortunately, when that decade passed, Monty and fellow survivor Harper (Chelsey Reist) saw little change to the radiation levels around the planet and he began decoding the mission files of the Eligius III, a ship sent out to find a hospitable and oil-rich planet out in the galaxy. The two lived long lives together, even having a son. After Harper s death, Monty chose to remain awake until he could find the route the Eligius III took, eventually dying of old age and hoping his friends would be better people when they settled the world he found for them.(Photo by Diyah Pera/The CW) Everyone takes Monty’s dying wish differently, Morgan explained. It has a resounding impact on us all. He was very much the core of the family and for him to sacrifice his life was such a gift. In the case of Morgan s Raven, it leads her to take a more active role in their coming exploration of the new world. A crisis is on hand in this new set of circumstances, she said. Being the brains of the operation and figuring out the intel, she has to figure out how to assess the planet and how to survive. Presumably, this means she will be one of the first to wake up from cyrosleep, but the cast was oddly mum about who wakes up first. Instead, Morgan joked, there’s been peace because we’ve all been asleep. While Harmon noted that the group is as cohesive as a unit as we ve ever been at the start of the season, old wounds will quickly open up as the various characters awaken. For Raven and Murphy, that means injuries sustained across the fifth season have not healed after 125 years. In fact, Harmon said Murphy’s injury allows him to relate to Raven a little better — at least when he first wakes up. But for Octavia, it means her actions as Red Queen will haunt her. She spends a lot of the time this season dealing with her interior demons and the group has a lot of ill-feelings toward her, Avgeropoulos said. She feels isolated. Additionally, the relationship between Octavia and her brother will be interesting considering as Octavia threw Bellamy in the Pit, which is going to take a little bit of time to overcome. There’s an interesting thing that happens between them this season that’ll shock the viewers, she said. I’m really excited for everybody to see it. Added Morley,  It will take some time for them to be able to address the situation, and a lot of their own healing before they can speak about it or it’s amicable or for it to grow into a more healthy relationship. (Photo by Diyah Pera/The CW)That fractious sibling relationship may also put some pressure on Bellamy s relationship with Echo (Tasya Teles). On that front, Morley said Bellamy and Echo are still very much in love, but evaded elaborating on it to point out the show will finally spend some time filling in certain gaps in her backstory. I’m super excited about that, Teles said. It s one of the things I ve been hoping for and asking for the last couple of years. I had ruminated on her backstory and the opportunity to share that for the first time is really exciting. She suggested Echo s past was not roses and picnics, but her unique trauma may lead to something she can contribute to the group as they face the new world. At the same time, she said Echo is still learning to adapt to her new surroundings and trying out a new way of life. But when asked about Echo s relationship with Bellamy — and the fact he has to deal with Clarke in close quarters again — Teles said, rather enigmatically, She understands loyalty better than anyone else, she understands certain relationships are sacred. So there’s a lot of support within them all. She added that Echo also feels a certain indebtedness to Clarke. And when Morley was asked if there was a chance for Bellarke shippers to be pleased this year, he joked there is “as much of a chance as all those other years.”Among their other duties in exploring the new planet, the pair are tasked with looking after Monty and Harper s son, Jordan (Shannon Kook). Though an adult, there is something childlike about him.As Morley put it, Jordan is such an interesting character. He spent his whole life on a spaceship with his parents. Spending 26 years with only his parents to talk to would drive anyone a bit insane, but Kook is a great addition to the cast and Jordan is a new type of quirky character the show hasn t seen before. For his part, Kook said, It’s befuddling for the heroes to encounter this idealistic and optimistic personality who reminds them of their old friend. (Photo by Sergei Bachlakov/The CW)Unlike their childhoods on the Ark and their adulthoods-by-fire on Earth, Jordan was raised in the harmony of his parents even as he trained to join the others on their exploration of the new planet. There are some parallels between him and Octavia [who also grew up separate from the others], but the difference in that is that he wasn’t growing up in a time of tension. Unlike the fear Octavia knew, Jordan has always enjoyed peace. It means planetfall will be quite a jolt to his system. But Jordan, not unlike the original 100 when they first arrived on Earth, will approach this new world as a series of firsts. As Kook put it, Jordan notes the moment he breathes fresh air for the first time and sees a woman who isn t his mother. He also faces the challenge of working with the people he idolized growing up, challenging their jaded worldviews, and feeling an obligation to protect his new family. It s a tall order for a young lad who s never met anyone before, the actor said.Nonetheless, Morley and Teles said Bellamy, Clarke, and Echo feel a certain protectiveness for Jordan immediately. And while that sense will be reciprocated, Kook admitted Jordan has one fave among the group: Murphy. He throws your expectations,  Kook said.Added Harmon,  I was his favorite growing up, which is very valid. But be careful what you wish for when it comes to meeting your legends. The 100 returns Tuesday, April 30 at 9 p.m. on The CW.

(Photo by Christopher Polk/Getty Images)Typically this time of year, the awards season begins to take shape, and while we have new glimmers of hope courtesy of One Night in Miami and Nomadland, many niggling questions remain unanswered. Which films are in contention? Will theaters be open in time to screen contenders? Will the current films on the calendar hold their dates? In truth, the entire season is in jeopardy, depending on how you look at it, with so many questions still left unanswered after most of the major film festivals have concluded. On the precipice of an unprecedented season, we thought we would kick off our awards coverage with a detailed breakdown of what we know and what we don t about the 2020-2021 season.A Disruption in the Timeline(Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images)Earlier this year, the Academy announced that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they would be pushing back the deadlines and ceremony date for Oscars 2021. The show, which will air live on ABC Sunday, April 25, 2021, was originally scheduled for February 28, 2021. Coinciding with the Oscars celebration, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, initially scheduled to open to the public on December 14, 2020, will open on April 30, 2021.With this change, the Academy also announced that the eligibility period will extend to February 28th, 2021. The extension was made in the hopes of giving theaters more time to return to normal, but as the COVID-19 crisis continues, the chances of that happening are rapidly dwindling. Other awards contests like the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and Independent Spirits have followed suit and moved to later dates, which line up with Oscar season, though most of the major critic groups, like the NYFCC and LAFCA, have chosen to keep a calendar year eligibility. The Oscars have also removed the theatrical screening requirement, allowing for VOD releases to compete if they were intended for a theatrical run. The extension is a significant change but should have little effect on which films are in contention, but the VOD option may usher in quite a few non-traditional Oscar hopefuls. Be sure to bookmark our 2020-2021 awards calendar if you want to keep up to date on all the award show changes. The Netflix Season(Photo by Netflix)As digital screenings will be the way this year, many are dubbing it the Netflix Season. As the streaming giant is not beholden to traditional box office considerations they are the studio best equipped to navigate these uncertain times, and their awards slate is quite ambitious. Netflix recently picked up the Best Actress contender Pieces of A Woman, starring Vanessa Kirby, as well as Euphoria creator Sam Levinson’s quarantine-filmed Malcolm Marie, adding the pair to their already crowded roster of nearly 20 films set to compete in 2021.Previously released films like Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and I’m Thinking of Ending Things are very much in the thick of contention for several categories, and Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Radha Blank’s Sundance winner The Forty-Year-Old Version are scheduled to hit the platform soon. Ron Howard’s Hillbilly Elegy, David Fincher’s Mank, and George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky are in post-production and remain undated, but pundits are banking that they will bring the goods. A-list casts acting in “awards-friendly” source material is precisely what Oscar voters love. However, with a handful of strong candidates and no need to consider box office viability, Netflix can carefully plot out their release calendar to drum up timely buzz as often as possible. The recent tragic death of Chadwick Boseman will likely have a significant impact on the release of Viola Davis’ Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, but the August Wilson adaptation is still expected to join the titles mentioned above in what will likely be a Netflix vs. Netflix race in several categories. In short, Netflix is in the driver s seat this year with the most competitive titles and release date flexibility, so it might be a foregone conclusion that they will be the big winner on Oscar night no matter what happens next.A New Campaign Playbook(Photo by Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images)This year s Emmys taught us that the typical campaign strategy playbook has been thrown out the window. The glitzy Hollywood parties and cocktail mixers will likely be completely absent from the season with a few exceptions. Also, with limited theatrical/drive-in releases, the post-screening Q As that typically drive ticket sales and buzz are also not possible.More importantly, though, the festival calendar has been nearly removed from the equation entirely. The Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival, normally critical for a film s long-term chances, have been able to proceed with virtual screenings and drive-in events, but the typical post-premiere buzz that is generated was decidedly muted. That buzz only affects audience interest in the films, but it also marshals the attention of voters, something that will be difficult to command given the limitations of COVID-19.After they were forced to cancel their yearly event, the Telluride Film Festival put on a large A-list drive-in event to premiere Nomadland simultaneously with Venice and TIFF. Venice continued with the scaled-down slate, but each festival s place as a key piece of the awards landscape has been considerably affected. Awards strategists and studios, therefore, have been relying on virtual events and catered meals sent directly to industry professionals and voters as a way to keep their films top of the mind.Big Budget Exodus Creates an Indie Lover s Paradise (Photo by Chiabella James/Warner Bros. Entertainment)A few days ago, Disney announced an adjustment to their film calendar, shortly after Universal and Warner Brothers had done the same: West Side Story, The French Dispatch, Candyman, and A Quiet Place II all vacated their dates. Currently, the only viable big-budget awards options still on the calendar are Dune and Disney s animated musical Soul, both of which are still expected to hit theaters. However, the chances of that are still in question as theaters are still largely closed in New York and Los Angeles. This lack of studio options could set up an indies first season, which would be an interesting turn of events after films like Joker, Black Panther, Mad Max: Fury Road, Bohemian Rhapsody, and 1917 brought blockbusters to the Best Picture race in recent years.Though many may lament the lack of studio releases, there s an equally vocal contingent that s celebrating the chance to have a true indie season. This year s Oscars may closely mirror the season s penultimate event, the Independent Spirit Awards. There are only a handful of films left on the schedule with budgets over million, but there is a legitimate chance they all could still vacate their dates. This may be the first time in recent memory without a single big-budget Best Picture nominee.(Photo by Plan B Entertainment)Despite the pandemic, 2021 has already seen a promising crop of Oscar-worthy films, but most films in contention this year had to forego a traditional theatrical release to go straight to VOD.  Sundance favorites like Minari, The 40-year Old Version, and The Father have not been released yet but are almost certainly contenders. Small indie releases like Never Rarely Sometimes Always, The Assistant, Miss Juneteenth, and First Cow could battle it out against fall releases like Nomadland and One Night in Miami, giving multiple films from female directors a chance to pull nominations. And those are just the dated titles. Ma Rainey s Black Bottom, Mank, Promising Young Woman, The French Dispatch, and Pieces of a Woman are all on several Oscar shortlists, though we still don t know if they will release in time for this year s contest. On the studio side, Disney s Soul and Dune are the most likely options for a big-budget Best Picture nominee, but the chances both stay the course and release as scheduled is still very much in the air. It is very reasonable to think that Dune, Wonder Woman 1984, and Soul will all follow the lead of No Time to Die, which very recently fled 2020 for an April, 2021 release, in which case the indies will undoubtedly dominate in most of the major categories. Will It Happen?Ryan FujitaniThough it is the most unlikely scenario, there is a question about whether or not the season will actually happen. Yes, that would be extreme, but let s break it down. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is a non-profit organization chiefly dedicated to honoring, preserving, and helping shepherd the art of motion pictures. The organization s biggest fundraiser to help achieve that mission is the fees they earn from their contract with ABC to broadcast the Oscars; the Academy earns the majority of its operating budget from this one event. So in that respect, the Academy s true top priority is not film preservation but keeping ABC happy and the ratings high so that they don t lose their biggest revenue source. This is not a cynical statement, just a cold hard fact. That fact was also partially the motivation for things like the recent membership changes, the telecast, and the ill-conceived Popular Film Oscar. With a pricey new Academy museum currently under construction and awards show ratings in steady decline, the Academy is acutely aware that relevance is important. If the Oscars cease to be a premiere advertising event, their contract will not be as valuable, or worse, they could lose it altogether. This is a reason to hold the show no matter what, but if the lack of marquee names and big-budget hits leads to lackluster viewership, the results could be catastrophic for their revenue prospects. If they don t proceed with the season, it would certainly be damaging, but the Board of Governors who run the Academy might decide that skipping a year and coming back strong would be a better bet.The Emmys double-digit decrease in viewership for their socially distant ceremony last month was also a worrying sign, but coupled with the Oscars 20% decrease in viewership from 2018 to 2019, it s hard to imagine there s any scenario that won t see a significant audience drop-off. If that s likely to happen, the case can be made just to bite the bullet and put on a variety show to celebrate the Academy and push the competitive ceremony to 2022. For this, they would have to pool all eligible films from both 2020 and 2021. Admittedly this sounds far-fetched, but if we see a rise in COVID-19 cases, lockdowns, and production issues, we may end up with the same number of eligible films during that two-year time period. Moreover, if theaters are still shuttered and studios are still holding films, 2021 may look more like 2020, and if it does, will the show go on?In end, the decision lies with the Board of Governors, and if they believe that their revenue, relevancy, or brand will be severely damaged by a limited season, they might vote to pull out altogether. This is the nuclear option and the least likely, but it wouldn t be the first time that the Academy has had to back off on a plan. 3. 激战团竞模式
OK —Winnick: But I will tell you this: It was definitely my highlight of working on it. I asked Michael Hirst, I want three things out of my directorial debut: Give me a big event. Give me something epic and amazing. You will see that is actually in the trailers right now. So there is a big event. I wanted character-driven material that I can push the actors, my fellow costars, to new levels that the audience hasn t seen them do before. And I m happy to say that I definitely put Alexander Ludwig through the ringer. And even Marco and Jordan — Hvitserk and Ubbe. The third thing is just coming from a martial art background and doing my own stunts and being passionate about the fight choreography, I asked him for a big fight, a big epic battle, and you will see that as well.(Photo by Jonathan Hession and History)Now that you re facing the the tail end of your series, what will you miss most about your time on the show?Winnick: I don t miss getting into the costume hair and makeup, because that was always a process. We tried to get it down at the end. That wig was a challenge because we were shooting in high definition and you only get X amount of space to glue it on. Or even the prosthetics with the latex around the eyes — I have very sensitive skin, so the process was definitely a process. What I won t miss: The coffee in Ireland s not the best. I ll tell you that. They made instant coffee. Our craft table was pretty always kind of scarce, but it kept us lean. But yeah, the instant coffee I m not a huge fan of.What s coming up next for you? Winnick: I ve had a really busy year. Really excited to say that I ve done three projects, three different independent movies. There s an incredible script called Flag Day, written by Jez Butterworth (who just won the Tony for Ferryman), and Sean Penn directed and starred in. I play his wife, and our daughter is played by his real daughter, Dylan Penn. We ve got Regina King in this, you ve got Miles Teller, we have Josh Brolin. It was really an amazing experience on set to work with Sean, and especially becoming now a director myself — I just did a show on Netflix; I directed, Wu Assassins — but it s nice just to see him [work]. He s so accomplished and brilliant as a director and knows what it takes to get the performance out of you, but also aesthetically knows what is pleasing and what he wants. I wanted to really see him work and spend time with him on set and create something that hopefully people will realize how special it is, because I have a place in my heart for that as well. And to go through like three decades, we went through 60s, 70s, and 80s, and to have that physical change of — there s prosthetics, there s hair changes — It was a very interesting movie, and I m really passionate about that one. Great experience.I did a movie with Liam Neeson I just finished called Minuteman. I ve been a fan of his since back in the day, obviously, Taken and Schindler s List. He s also from Ireland. I played his daughter. That s coming out. And did a movie this summer also with Tommy Lee Jones and Aaron Eckhart, more of a conspiracy theory, written and directed by a female director, April Mullen, so it s nice to be able to support a female storyteller.(Photo by Jonathan Hession and History)Speaking of women in power, Lagertha has been such a huge influence on women because she s such a strong character. She s one of the most powerful women on television. How do you feel about portraying a character like that? What are some of the responses you ve gotten about being her from women?Winnick: I am still blown away when I meet fans that are diehard fans, and such loyal fans of Lagertha, just because it s — not just women and girls, it s men too that really look up to her, respect her, like her. So it s nice that it s reached both genders. But more importantly, it s also around the world. I ve been lucky enough to travel for the last few years. I was in India, I was in Brazil, I ve been in Argentina, Canada, and all over Europe, really, and all around in different cultures people from all around the world, not only recognize her and me, I guess, but they also really feel the same way, and then really feel that there s a part of them in Lagertha, or they look up to her, and that s been remarkable to see.Even in India, you can go to different villages and people, they live on their Netflix. And Philippines, people don t even have running water, but they all have cell phones and they watch Vikings on their cellphones. It was just amazing just to see how it can inspire people everywhere. It s a little strange when you see somebody, when they have your face tattooed on their bodies. That s a little surreal because I feel kind of uncomfortable with it just because it s like, Hey, you re stuck with me for life. No, but on one hand you can t ask for a bigger compliment than to have such loyal fans.On the flip side it s also made it hard to find projects that I m also as inspired, and work with writers that can write such a complex, strong, yet vulnerable character. It s been a challenge. I ve read a lot of scripts that I m not wanting to sign on to because I feel that the characters aren t — or the woman character is underwritten or their voice isn t as multi-dimensional as I would want it to be. And I think we still have a long way to go, and hopefully we encourage more female writers, female directors, and female producers to be able to tell those stories. Have the men do the same as well.(Photo by Bernard Walsh and History)Are you saying that Michael Hirst has ruined you for life?Winnick: I m just going to have be in a Michael Hirst movie for the rest of my life. How about that? Not really. Yeah. He set the bar really high, and I wouldn t want it any other way. Especially in TV when you re signing up for multiple months, if not years, of your life, you want to make sure there s a character you can really sink your teeth into and be inspired.I learned a lot from Lagertha. I really, truly did. And the truth of the matter is, if I was 100-percent honest with you, I ve yet to really say goodbye. I actually have a hard time watching it. I haven t been able to watch the episodes in this season. I prepared, obviously, as a director to watch certain ones, but as a whole, it s just so close to my heart still. And now that everybody knows that this season s finished, I think maybe next year I ll finally get a chance to sit down and binge-watch all of them, but it s still too fresh for me. It feels like you re saying goodbye to a big part of yourself and life. It s hard to say. You go through a mourning process a little bit because, as you know, the show ended. The fans are there mourning with you, but, you know, Valhalla. Winnick: To end on an up note, this season s been amazing. It s going to be surprising. It s definitely going to be a bunch of shockers, and the fans will not be disappointed. They re going to be ecstatic when they see this season.Vikings returns for its final season on Wednesday, December 4 at 9/8C on History.

7.76.1 6月喜迎It s not an easy thing to be the lowest-scoring Game of Thrones episode of the series history, but Episode 5: "The Bells" 49% has done it.Five seasons had passed before an episode of the series got a Rotten score, and then another two passed before it got another with season 8 s The Last of the Starks, which, critics complained, was  anticlimactic and a huge letdown. And now another. The series eighth and final season is struggling relative to its predecessors. With its latest episode at 49% on 68 reviews (updated) following the previous week s 57% score, season 8 dropped to 73% on Monday — every other season is Certified Fresh at 91% or higher on the Tomatometer. The final episode will have to score an 89% or higher for the season overall to qualify for Certified Fresh status. It is now mathematically impossible for the season to be anything but the lowest-scoring season of the series. There were no dancing Starbucks cups derailing Sunday s episode, but plenty more to complain about, according to reviews. But, first, some good news or not(Photo by Mark Davis/Getty Images)UPDATED: Absurd, author George R.R. Martin wrote in a vehement denial of a statement actor Ian McElhinney made to a Saint Peteresburg, Russia, fan convention that books six and seven were written but shelved until after the series concluded. (See the video here, starting around the 32-minute mark.)McElhinney who played Ser Barristan Selmy in the series dropped that bomb at Epic Con in April, revealing/purporting that Martin has already finished writing the final two books of the Song of Ice and Fire novel series that the hit TV show is based on. He struck an agreement with David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss], the showrunners of the series, that he would not publish his final two books until the series has completed, McElhinney said at the con. So [if] all goes well, another month or two, we might get books six and seven. Martin responded to the video: No, THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING are not finished. DREAM is not even begun; I am not going to start writing volume seven until I finish volume six … HBO did not ask me to delay them. Nor did David Dan. There is no “deal” to hold back on the books. I assure you, HBO and David Dan would both have been thrilled and delighted if THE WINDS OF WINTER had been delivered and published four or five years ago… and NO ONE would have been more delighted than me. Still, if you don t like the way the show ends, there s always the option to read the author s take on it — whenever the books arrive. (And those people who have been dragging on Martin online about finishing the books still seriously need to apologize — that s still bad form.)Armed with that information and before you set your expectations about the finale, read on to find out what critics had to say about  The Bells. No, After Eight Seasons, Critics Aren t Buying This For viewers who have stuck around for eight seasons of the HBO fantasy series, all that s left after the penultimate episode is ash and a bad taste. — Kelly Lawler, USA Today For a battle that s been years in the making, that was more than a little disappointing. — Paul Dailly, TV Fanatic The penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, The Bells, has too much to do and too little time for people to stop and explain how they re feeling. As a result, everything is big. — Dave Gonzales, Thrillist Sorry. But no. I just didn t buy that. Any of it. — Michael Deacon, Daily Telegraph (UK)Read more: Game of Thrones’ Penultimate Episode: Hell Hath No Fury Like a Dragon Queen Scorned Whither the Daenerys We Know and Love? Dany got a raw deal. — Glen Weldon, NPR It s understandable that she would act rashly as a response. But the show doesn t actually set that up. Instead, it presents us with mounting evidence that she s suddenly inherited her father and brother s mental illness, with no prior symptoms. — Anne Cohen, Refinery29 I don t want to spend too much time second-guessing the show runners here, but I saw a bunch of people carping on Twitter as soon as the episode ended that this turn of Daenerys s is unearned, and I have to say it felt that way to me too. — Mike Hogan, Vanity Fair The Thrones series finale will have to do a LOT of repair work to make me understand what the hell happened to Dany, the woman who once locked up her dragons for months because one of them accidentally killed ONE child. — Huw Fullerton, Radio TimesWe Need to Talk About the WritingThe show s perverse desire to dumb down its characters just to fill out inorganic plot beats is maybe the biggest overall problem with this final season. — Clint Worthington, The Spool Drawing out aspects of the character which have been there in more than just her gene pool but hidden in the gestalt complicates a picture that is much more fun to leave a little less novelistic.  — Daniel D Addario, Variety In doing so, the thing that GoT is actually pushing is a debate about Dany s morality, bringing that question into the foreground of the show after letting it sit quietly in the background for so long.  — James Hibberd, Entertainment Weekly It s like Jamie Lannister stabbed the Mad King in the back, and the writers of the show stabbed Jamie Lannister in the back!  — Jeremy Jahns, JeremyJahns.com I still greatly enjoyed The Bells, the penultimate episode of this last-minute-bungled series, because anytime there s a lot of killing, it translates to minimal dialogue, a blessing at this point.  — Julianne Escobedo Shepherd, The Muse/Jezebel Game Of Thrones has always been a show to cast a realistic eye (magic and dragons not withstanding) on how people treat each other when power is in play, and there were multiple examples here. Just not all of them worth our while.  — James White, Empire Magazine Sure, there was something wonderful and terrible to behold as she and her Drogon rained terror down on King s Landing, but all those pyrotechnics and the resulting ash couldn t obscure how mechanical this drama has become.  — Ellen Gray, Philadelphia InquirerRead more: Game of Thrones’ Final Season Is Officially Its Worst, According to the TomatometerBut What About Those Effects? There was so much that could have worked here, so many emotional pay-offs and beautifully shot scenes and it was all let down by how little work was put into earning those moments.  — Sarah Hughes, Guardian The cinematic pyrotechnics to accompany this grim symphony were occasionally repetitious but overall extraordinary.  — Spencer Kornhaber, The Atlantic The CGI was spectacular.  — Neela Debnath, Daily Express (UK)The Acting? In general, this episode was beautifully executed and really well-acted, with a lot of clean action and intelligent cross-cutting between set pieces. But it felt so hollow to me, the narratives stakes entirely obliterated, once Daenerys made her move. — David Sims, The Atlantic The acting was spectacular. The effects were stunning. I m going to err on the episode working in a vacuum and rate it as positive if middling, but just as this week has come to make last week s loathsome in hindsight, next week s final hour will provide the final details to really evaluate this ending.  — David Crow, Den of Geek I wish I could go back to living in a world where Game of Thrones was still a great show, something I recommended to my friends, colleagues and my cab driver. But now, I feel like sinking into the ground, embarrassed for ever promoting or defending it.  — Soumya Srivastava, Hindustan Times Just because the outcome wasn t surprising, that doesn t mean the result wasn t spectacular.  — Jeremy Egner, New York Times Game of Thrones should end the same way it did its best work surprising us. Or perhaps surprising us about the way it s surprising us.  — Hillary Kelly, New York Magazine/Vulture Whatever the thinking, the result is clear: Game of Thrones marches towards its final episode a lame duck.  — Nick Hilton, Independent (UK) The only character I care about survives, so I m good. Beyond that, this episode is full on chaos.  — Leona Laurie, Geek Girl Authority It is sufficed to say that the beautifully shot swarming of King s Landing and pitiful death of Cersei may stand as the pivotal and most recalled episode of Game of Thrones ever no matter how things shake down next week.  — Dominic Patten, Deadline Hollywood Daily Maybe that s the core truth revealed by The Bells. There may just be too many arcs in this show for these final episodes to feel truly earned as an ending, too many threads that were just destined to never connect.  — Myles McNutt, AV Club I loved it and hated it and I think it could have been the perfect culmination of everything this show ever set out to do, if only they d earned it.  — Erik Kain, Forbes By the end of this 90 minutes, as the ash settled, it is difficult not to feel one was looking at the charred remains of an era-defining television show s integrity.  — Hugh Montgomery, BBC.com The Bells stands as one of the most artful, poetic, and upsetting installments in Game of Thrones history, as the true cost of war hits home in a devastating and visceral way.  — Laura Prudom, IGN MoviesDid you agree with the critics? Spanish-language animation along with Spanish-language TV, horror, and cinema at large   is on the rise. Over the last 15 years animators from all over the Latinx diaspora have emerged to tell stories in a variety of animated mediums: traditional 2D animation, 3D computer-generated graphics, stop-motion, rotoscoping, and beyond. And while many of their names aren t as synonymous with animation as Disney, Miyazaki, or even Bakshi and Bluth, with such an abundance of talented creators in the game it’s high time more viewers became familiar with their work. That said, spoiler alert, there is a Disney film on this list. Gotta give props where they’re due.Like the Latinx diaspora itself, the movies on this list come from all over the world and tell all kinds of stories from fantastical dreamland adventures, to horrifying stories of survival, to every coming-of-age beat in between all styled to their creator’s unique visions. Some are geared toward children, others should never be viewed by a child. But they are all fantastic pieces of work that any animation (or movie) lover should know.

This week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles as Blacula, The Rose, The Toxic Avenger, and the Marvin Gaye biopic. This WEEK S TOP STORYCOLIN FARRELL AND RACHEL WEISZ TO REUNITE IN TODD SOLONDZ S LOVE CHILD(Photo by Karwai Tang/Getty Images)Director Yorgos Lanthimos gave us a strange take on romantic relationships in The Lobster (Certified Fresh at 87%), starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, and their next project together seems like it might be thematically similar. The project was announced this week during the Cannes (virtual) market, with Farrell and Weisz attached to star in Love Child, a dark comedy from director Todd Solondz (Happiness, Wiener Dog, Welcome to the Dollhouse), who describes it as my first movie with a plot and my first movie taking place in Texas. That plot is described as a dark and hilarious twist on the classic Oedipus story, with a precocious kid who schemes to rid himself of his brutish dad so he can have his mom all to himself. But things go awry when a handsome stranger appears. Weisz will presumably play the Mom, but it s unclear whether Colin Farrell will play the dad or the handsome stranger (or, since this is a Solondz movie, maybe he ll play both?).Other Top Headlines1. CYNTHIA ERIVO TO REMAKE BETTE MIDLER S THE ROSE (Photo by Eli Winston/Everett Collection)Hollywood has been trying to make a proper Janis Joplin biopic since the 1970s (and the legal struggles were such that 30 Rock spoofed it the Jackie Jormp-Jomp episode). In 1979, one such Joplin project was fictionalized and retitled as The Rose (Fresh at 78%) instead of The Pearl, with Bette Midler starring as a beloved singer struggling with substance addiction. Cynthia Erivo is now set to star in a remake of The Rose for Searchlight Pictures, although there is currently no director or writer. Erivo began her career on Broadway before expanding to film in movies like Widows, Bad Times at the El Royale, and as Harriet Tubman in Harriet. It s worth noting that she has won an Emmy, a Grammy, and a Tony Award (all for The Color Purple), which means that she s only an Academy Award win away from earning EGOT status. Cynthia Erivo is currently starring as Aretha Franklin in National Geographic s Genius: Aretha (not to be confused with Jennifer Hudson s upcoming Respect), and she will also co-star as the Blue Fairy in Pinocchio on Disney+ in 2022.2. KRISTEN WIIG TO STAR IN STEPFORD WIVES-ESQUE THRILLER THE HUSBANDS (Photo by Wilson Webb/20th Century Fox)We ll never really be able to know how much better some films that were released during the COVID-19 pandemic might have done at the box office otherwise. One of those films, which opted for a streaming release in February, was the vacation comedy Barb Star Go to Vista Del Mar (Certified Fresh at 79%), starring Kristen Wiig and her Bridesmaids (Certified Fresh at 90%) screenwriting partner Annie Mumolo. MGM is now partnering with Brad Pitt s Plan B production company on an adaptation of the novel The Husbands by author Chandler Baker, who will also adapt the screenplay from her own novel., and Wiig is signed on to star. Described as a Stepford Wives-esque thriller, The Husbands centers on an overworked mother who, while house-hunting in a nice suburban neighborhood, meets a group of high-powered women with enviably supportive husbands (and presuming the comparison to The Stepford Wives is accurate, you can probably guess where The Husbands goes from there).3. PAUL GIAMATTI TO REUNITE WITH SIDEWAYS DIRECTOR ALEXANDER PAYNE IN THE HOLDOVERS(Photo by Jeff Neumann/©Showtime)In 2004, director Alexander Payne had just directed three films (Citizen Ruth, Election, About Schmidt), but his fourth, Sideways, a seemingly unambitious buddy comedy about two wine enthusiasts, ended up being something of an arthouse blockbuster, earning over 0 million, five Academy Award nominations, and an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. The stars of Sideways were Thomas Haden Church and Paul Giamatti, and now, Giamatti is set to reunite with Payne on another indie-flavored comedy called The Holdovers. Giamatti will play a universally disliked teacher at a prep school during Christmas, 1970, as he has to watch over the holdovers, who are students unable to go home. Filming of The Holdovers is scheduled to start in early 2022 on location in New England.4. DR. DRE PRODUCING MARVIN GAYE BIOPIC WHAT S GOING ON (Photo by Everett Collection)Musical biopics are all the rage, particularly with the box office success, critical and audience acclaim, and awards attention of several recent films; the most recent Oscars ceremony alone recognized Ma Rainey s Black Bottom (Certified Fresh at 98%), The United States vs Billie Holliday, and (partly) One Night in Miami (Certified Fresh at 98%). So it shouldn t surprise anyone particularly readers of this column that new ones are announced with great regularity, and the big new project his week involves 1960s and 1970s soul and R B star Marvin Gaye, whose story will be told in What s Going On, which takes its title from one of Gaye s most famous songs (and albums). What s Going On will be produced by Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine, and Andrew Lazar, and directed by Allen Hughes (Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, The Book of Eli). The budget of What s Going On will reportedly be the biggest ever for an African American music biopic, north of million, and it s expected to be released sometime in 2023. In related news, the long-in-development disco-era Spinning Gold, about Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart (to be played by his son) is finally moving forward, with a supporting cast that includes Wiz Khalifa as George Clinton, Tayla Parx as Donna Summer, and Ledisi as Gladys Knight. Lastly, another musical biopic starting to cast up is I Wanna Dance with Somebody, starring Naomi Ackie as Whitney Houston, with Moses Ingram (of the upcoming Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi) as Houston s longtime friend and assistant Robyn Crawford.5. EWAN MCGREGOR TO CLIMB EVEREST IN GEORGE MALLORY BIOPIC (Photo by Neil Davidson/IFC Films courtesy Everett Collection)Sometimes movies with similar premises or settings are released within a few years of each other. The 2015 action thriller Everest (Fresh at 73%), for example, was set on Mount Everest, but it was not about any of the famously historical attempts to first climb the mountain. That will be the premise of another movie called Everest, in which Ewan McGregor will star as English mountaineer George Mallory, along with Mark Strong as Arthur Hinks and Sam Heughan as George Finch. Jeffrey Archer s novel Paths of Glory (not to be confused with the Stanley Kubrick film) is described as inspiring Everest. Director Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, The Bourne Identity) will direct Everest from a screenplay by Sheldon Turner (Up in the Air) when filming starts in the UK and Italy in January, 2022.6. ICE CUBE TO SAY OH HELL NO TO HIS MOM DATING JACK BLACK (Photo by Scott Garfield/©Columbia Pictures, Deana Newcomb/©Millennium Entertainment)Sometimes, we pretty much give you the entire story in the headline, and there it is. Jack Black is now in negotiations with Sony Pictures to star in the quickly-coming-together comedy Oh Hell No, starring Ice Cube and to be directed by Kitao Sakurai, who is fresh off the release of his COVID-delayed comedy Bad Trip (Certified Fresh at 76%). Ice Cube will play a man who becomes very upset when he discovers that his mom is dating Jack Black s character. Sony Pictures has scheduled Oh Hell No for release on June 17, 2022, which currently puts it up against Pixar and Disney s Lightyear origin story for their Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear, to be voiced by Chris Evans.7. SIX DEGREES OF THE TOXIC AVENGER: KEVIN BACON CAST AS THE REBOOT S VILLAIN (Photo by RCF/Everett Collection)Producer Lloyd Kaufman s ultra-low-budget production company Troma Entertainment has given us such schlocky titles as Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D., Tromeo Juliet, The Class of Nuke Em High (and its four sequels), and most infamously, The Toxic Avenger (and its three sequels). Big-time Hollywood production company Legendary Entertainment gives us super-expensive movies like Christopher Nolan s Batman trilogy, the Jurassic World franchise, and recently, Godzilla vs Kong. Surely, there is no project that could ever connect the two, right? That notion went out the window when Legendary decided to reboot Troma s The Toxic Avenger, with Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage taking over as the toxic waste-powered superhero. We also now know that the slick villain of The Toxic Avenger will be played by Kevin Bacon. Elijah Wood also signed onto the film this week, as did prolific character actor Jonny Coyne, joining a growing ensemble that  includes Jacob Tremblay (as Toxie s son), Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, and Sarah Niles.

Rotten Tomatoes recently held its first Rotten Tomatoes Critics Workshop, designed to help freelance critics and journalists navigate festivals, develop industry contacts, and get their stories placed. We asked the industry professionals who spoke at our workshops to provide their top tips for freelancers; the below come from President of the African American Film Critics Association, Gil Robertson.Covering Sundance is an entertainment writer’s dream. As one of the industry’s most important festivals, it attracts the world’s biggest entertainers and decision makers. I’ve had the privilege of attending the festival for over a decade now as both a film critic and film advocate. Over the years, I have developed a few strategies that help me get the most out of each visit that I am now sharing with you. Check out some of my best practices below to help you get the most out of this incredible opportunity!1. PurposeSundance fosters a very “open” and inclusionary environment with films, installations and panel discussions that reflect the industry’s global diversity. New faces are plentiful and welcomed even, so make sure you have your game plan intact to meet your goals and get the most out of your experience. The festival is a tremendous opportunity to connect and network with those who can truly help grow your career and help you make a mark in this industry.2. PlanPlan: The best way to get what you need attending Sundance is to come pre-prepared. Study the program and be sure to sign up for all alerts. Send intro letters to PR professionals or points of contact for screenings and events that outline the coverage that you plan to provide. Also give yourself options with multiple events on your itinerary. Remember to be persistent, but not overbearing.3. WardrobeIt gets very cold in Park City, so dress warmly and layer well because you absolutely will spend a lot of time in long lines.4. PacingIt’s very easy to get overwhelmed by the glamour and fan fair at Sundance. There will be a lot of receptions, parties, premieres and even impromptu gatherings that will leave you exhausted and can throw you off track. Don’t lose your head! Enjoy everything, but remember to stay focused on your goals to manage your time wisely.5. ResponsibilityGetting Sundance media credentials is a huge opportunity and privilege and you should treat it as such. Make sure to show up to screenings and press opportunities on time. It’s also very important to file your reviews and articles covering the festival promptly so that they have the greatest impact. Doing this will ensure that you get invited back and will also provide you with entry to be invited to other film festivals.Gil Robertson is a journalist, author, and producer. He s the president and co-founder of the African American Film Critics Association. Follow him on Twitter @gilrobertson Today s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news, covering titles such as Duke Nukem, Plastic Man, The Toxic Avenger, and Pixar s Onward. This WEEK S TOP STORYDOCTOR STRANGE SEQUEL CASTS SPELL FOR POTENTIAL 2021 RELEASERyan FujitaniWhen Marvel s Doctor Strange was released in 2016, it didn t feature any hosts of Hoggoth (hoary or otherwise), but that spell and dozens of other franchise elements remain out there for a sequel. This has been a big year for new Marvel Studios projects going into development for 2021 and beyond, including Black Widow, The Eternals, Ms. Marvel, Black Panther 2, and most recently, Shang-Chi. In the first three phases, there was a balance between original films and sequels, but as you can see from those five films, the focus in 2018 has thus far been on new properties, with Black Panther 2 being the only direct sequel. A Doctor Strange sequel was conspicuously absent, but that changed this week as director Scott Derrickson was confirmed to return for a second installment. Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Wong are both signed to return, and Rachel McAdams is expected to as well. Filming of Doctor Strange 2 is expected to start in early 2020, possibly aiming for a release in early May (or late April) of 2021. As for what Doctor Strange 2 might introduce to the Marvel Cinematic Universe next, there are lots of possibilities (though it probably involves either Baron Mordo or Nightmare, or both).Fresh Developments1. MARVEL S STAR-LORD AND SPIDER-MAN MOVE ONWARD FOR PIXAR IN 2020 (Photo by Todd Williamson/Getty Images)Pixar introduced the first teasers for next summer s Toy Story 4 a few weeks back, but we were still lacking details about another film scheduled for 2020, including its title. Pixar corrected that this week with the revelation that the suburban fantasy will be called Onward, will be directed by Dan Scanlon (Monsters University), and feature the voices of Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Octavia Spencer. Pratt and Holland are both Marvel Studios stars (Star-Lord and Spider-Man, respectively), and Octavia Spencer will co-star in Robert Downey Jr s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, also in 2020 (1/17/2020). Although Onward is described as a suburban fantasy, it remains unclear what that means exactly. Onward is scheduled for release on March 6, 2020, which puts it a week after Fantasy Island (2/28/2020) and a week before the X-Men spinoff Gambit, starring Channing Tatum (3/13/2020). In related news, the first trailer for Tom Holland s next solo Marvel movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home (7/5/2019) debuted in Brazil this week.2. LEA SEYDOUX TO MAKE RARE RETURN FOR JAMES BOND 25 (Photo by Jonathan Olley/Columbia Pictures)One of the elements that unites almost all Bond girls to date is that the characters almost never return for a second film (although some like Maud Adams have played different characters). French actress Lea Seydoux, who co-starred in Spectre as Madeleine Swann, is going to buck the trend, however, as she will reprise her character in the 25th James Bond film. Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek was reportedly considered for the film s villain, but conflicts with the filming of his TV series Mr. Robot are likely preventing him from being cast. Cary Joji Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation, Sin Nombre) will be directing Daniel Craig in his fifth film as James Bond when it s released on February 14th, Valentine s Day, in 2020.3. GOT s KING TOMMEN INHERITS PRIME 2019 RELEASE DATE FOR 1917 (Photo by Gregorio T. Binuya/Everett Collection)Dozens of actors were featured in Game of Thrones, and next year, we re going to start to really see a deluge of new projects for them, as the show s final season has finished principal production. Obviously, some of them have already been taking work in between seasons, particularly those who left the show before season 7. One such young actor is Dean-Charles Chapman, who is not (yet) a household name, but is known to fans as King Tommen Baratheon in seasons 4, 5 and 6. Universal Pictures and Steven Spielberg s Amblin Partners have teamed up on a film called 1917, starring Chapman and George MacKay (Captain Fantastic). 1917 is the next film of director Sam Mendes, whose record behind the camera on the Tomatometer is entirely Fresh, including Certified Fresh scores for American Beauty and Skyfall. 1917 s title refers to the fourth year of World War I, the year in which the United States entered the war (4/6/1917). That McKay and Chapman are both English actors, however, suggests a British perspective. 1917 will open in limited released on December 25, 2019 (against Call of the Wild, Little Women, and Super Intelligence), and then expand wide on January 10, 2020.4. LIGHTER, BRIGHTER DC COMICS MOVIES LEADS TO BOUNCY SUPERHERO PLASTIC MAN (Photo by DC Comics)What a difference ten years can make. In 2008, director and producer Zack Snyder (Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) chided his Marvel competition, saying, we re going to have a Captain America movie if we re not careful. The positive reviews for the brighter perspectives of Wonder Woman (Certified Fresh at 93%), Teen Titans Go! to the Movies (Certified Fresh at 91%), and Aquaman (currently Fresh at 72%) suggest that critics and audiences alike want superhero movies that aren t always so grim (the verdict is still out on whether that would work for a Batman movie, of course). This week, DC Comics revealed plans for the hero who might be the lightest yet (even more so than next year s Shazam!), namely the super stretchy shapeshifter Plastic Man. First introduced in 1941, Plastic Man also had his own Saturday morning cartoon from 1979 to 1981. (Some sources are also comparing Plastic Man to Deadpool.) Although the Wachowskis (The Matrix, Speed Racer) had at one time been developing their own Plastic Man (the screenplay of which read a bit like a take on The Mask), the new Plastic Man will be written by newcomer Amanda Idoko (who also wrote the upcoming Breaking News In Yuba County, starring Laura Dern and Allison Janney).5. GRUESOME VILLAIN MR. ZSASZ JOINS MARGOT ROBBIE S BIRDS OF PREY Last month, we learned that Ewan McGregor had been cast as the villain Black Mask in the lengthily titled Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn). That will be Margot Robbie s second film as Harley Quinn, and her other teammates will include Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, and Rosie Perez as Detective Renee Montoya. This week, we learned that Black Mask won t be the only villain in BoP ( TFEOOHQ), as Chris Messina (TV s The Mindy Project) has also been cast as the insane killer Victor Zsasz (AKA Mr. Zsasz). Zsasz s most obvious physical elements are the dozens of scars he has all over his body for each of his victims, so Messina can probably look forward to a lengthy sit each morning in the makeup chair. In directly related news, Ali Wong has also been cast in the film as an associate of Renee Montoya. Warner Bros has scheduled Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) for release on February 7, 2020 (up against another sequel, Peter Rabbit 2).6. NEW BRIGHTBURN TRAILER REIMAGINES SUPERMAN ORIGIN AS HORROR STORY(Photo by Sony Pictures Entertainment)It appears unlikely that we will ever see director James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) directly work on another Marvel Studios film, but that doesn t necessarily mean he s done with the superhero genre. In October, we learned that Gunn had been hired by Marvel s distinguished competition at Warner Bros to write the screenplay for Suicide Squad 2 (with an eye towards possibly directing). This week, the first trailer for Brightburn (which Gunn co-wrote and produced) debuted, and it revealed that the film appears to be a reinterpretation of Superman s classic origin story. Put another way, what if Kal-El was had been evil? Elizabeth Banks will play the alien kid s human stepmom when Brightburn crashes into theaters next year on May 24, 2019, up against Disney s Aladdin remake, Brad Pitt s Ad Astra, and the western biopic (Billy) The Kid.Rotten Ideas3. SHARK SEQUEL 47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED SET FOR NEXT SUMMER (Photo by Dimension Films)Although the shark movie 47 Meters Down received a Rotten Tomatometer score of 54%, the film also earned a domestic box office take of million from a budget of just .5 million, so it s probably not surprising that it s getting a sequel. Mandy Moore, Claire Holt, and Matthew Modine won t be returning for the second film (for obvious reasons, at least for two of them), which will instead feature a new ensemble cast led by Nia Long and Corinne Foxx (daughter of Jamie). The other films swimming around 47 Meters Down: Uncaged on June 28, 2019 will be Ford v Ferrari (starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon), Limited Partners (with Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne, and Salma Hayek), and the untitled musical from director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire). We continue to be baffled why the sequel, once known as 47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter, refuses to embrace the admittedly obvious but far less clunky title 48 Meters Down.2. THE TOXIC AVENGER IS GETTING A BIG BUDGET REBOOT(Photo by Troma Films)Although both 1984 s The Toxic Avenger and 2000 s Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV received Fresh Tomatometer scores of 70%, the second film has an absolutely Rotten 0%, and the third film wasn t even reviewed enough to earn a score. The Toxic Avenger became such a cult fan favorite that he became the company mascot of Troma Entertainment, the super low-budget production company behind such chestnuts as Blood Sucking Freaks, Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD, and Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. Despite its gonzo origins, The Toxic Avenger is now being developed as a new big budget superhero franchise by Legendary Entertainment, the company behind The Dark Knight, Watchmen, and Godzilla. In addition to the four feature length movies, The Toxic Avenger was also adapted as a stage musical production, a children’s cartoon TV series, and a Marvel comic. 1. ASSASSIN S CREED PRODUCER NOW WORKING ON A SUPER-UNTIMELY DUKE NUKEM (Photo by dukenukem.com)There was once a time during which video games were largely perceived as products for children or teenagers (and more specifically, teenaged boys). It was at the height of that era, in 1991, when the original Duke Nukem franchise debuted; the games are littered with certain depictions of female characters that have not aged well at all. So, one might think that Duke Nukem would absolutely not be a franchise that would ever be adapted as a movie for 2020 or later, but guess what? That s exactly what s happening. The Duke Nukem project is being produced by Jean-Julien Baronnet, who also produced the video game-based 2016 disappointment Assassin s Creed (Rotten at 17%), and all that s without even mentioning the very Rotten legacy of the nearly 50 previous video game adaptations to date.

httpswww.bob154.app9003 f broken-down makeup. I m a trained makeup artist, and at first, the lines were very clean and very clownlike. And I had to go against the grain and break down this character. I remember when Chris brought in books of Francis Bacon paintings, these very blurry images. That really set the tone and set us in a direction of really just muting down and degrading the makeup. And that, that was really our Bible, those Francis Bacon paintings.”Caglione was inspired by Francis Bacon. Joel Meares“It had to be a very organic-looking makeup, like this guy is putting on makeup and maybe sleeping in his clothes for a week.”Caglione: “When you look at those images – Cesar Romero, you look at [Jack] Nicholson – they have the big white red lips, you know, they have kind of dark eyes. And the white face. So it s basically a blueprint. It s just riffing on it is the thing. And our riff on it was that it had to be a very organic-looking makeup, like this guy is putting on makeup and maybe sleeping in his clothes for a week. His hair is kind of oily and greasy, and he doesn t take off his makeup for like, three to five days. It’s not clean, pristine,  this is an organic world we re taking a peek into. This is real life stuff. In my early sketches, I sketched different scars. And maybe that influenced the final prosthetics, but those prosthetics were built by Conor O Sullivan. I was just the guy responsible for all the paint work that went over the pieces. But I seem to remember, in some of the meetings, the Cheshire Cat smile.”“I always got the feeling that Heath had already worked it out in his head. He knew where he was going.” Caglione: “Heath was great in the chair. Special actors like Heath – and my experience with Al Pacino over the years – these actors help you relax so that you can bring your game… I always got the feeling that [Heath] had already worked it out in his head, from what I remember. He knew where he was going. Early on, in first meeting Heath and playing around with the makeup, he already kind of had it all figured out. It was my job to just basically gild the lily and try to catch up with him, really. That s what I felt.”Ledger was instrumental in creating the iconic look.
