Horror fans will recognize her from her debut, 2016 s The Witch, and from M. Night Shyamalan s Split and Glass, but in between those, she found time to star in a Barack Obama biopic (Barry), a pitch-black comedy (Thoroughbreds), and a sci-fi thriller (Morgan). In the coming year, we ll also see her in Edgar Wright s next film (Last Night in Soho) and the X-Men movie New Mutants. And rumor has it she s in talk to star as a young Furiosa in George Miller s long-promised Mad Max: Fury Road prequel.Currently, Taylor-Joy stars as the charismatic lead in Emma, Autumn de Wilde s new adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel about a high-society matchmaker who spends too much time on other people s romances and not enough on her own. The film opened on February 21 but has been made available on VOD for audiences self-quarantining at home, and to celebrate its early access digital release, Anya Taylor-Joy gave us her Five Favorite Films. They may be less her absolute favorites than the movies she s binging while in quarantine – her five favorite movies (and one of them actually a TV series) for the very moment. She noted on email to Rotten Tomatoes that she is continuously amazed at the restorative powers of art. A good or personally treasured film or show offers as much respite to me now as it did when facing my comparatively insignificant worries as a child. May we continue to find hope, faith and solace in them, in the knowledge that the tenacity and fortitude of the human spirit (especially when working together) ensures that we endure.

As more and more people are compelled to practice social distancing and encouraged to stay home, as movie theaters temporarily shutter their doors, and as studios continue to pull their scheduled 2020 films off the release calendar, we ve decided to reformat this weekly Critics Consensus column to focus on titles that are newly available on the home entertainment market. With that in mind, our list of digital new releases this week includes the premiere of an animated sequel and the home entertainment debuts of a pair of horror films, a comedy misfire, and a martial arts franchise finale, not to mention the free streaming premiere of the most recent Best Picture winner. 3.85.8 4月喜迎The 50 Best TV Seasons of the 2010s, According to the TomatometerWe re celebrating the best TV of the decade with a look at the top-scoring seasons of 2010–2019, according to the Tomatometer. The second season of Phoebe Waller-Bridge s Fleabag takes the top spot, but don t feel bad for season 1; it appears at No. 1 our list. Fellow Amazon Prime series Catastrophe, from creators Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney, tops the list for number of total seasons on the list with three of its four seasons Certified Fresh at 100% on the Tomatometer placing at Nos. 14, 15, and 25. Netflix title Master of None is the only show with two seasons in the top 10.All of the seasons are Certified Fresh at 100%, by the way. We re showing 50 here, but there are a total of 94 TV seasons from the decade that have 100% Certified Fresh scores. We ranked them according to the number of reviews each had at the season level. Fleabag season 2, for instance, has 95 season-level reviews with Insecure season 1 hot on its heels with 94 reviews. Meanwhile, season 2 of anthology series Fargo, which starred Patrick Wilson and Kirsten Dunst, has a total of 230 reviews total across the season and 10 episodes, but only 58 at the season level, and so the title appears lower on the list. But getting episode-level reviews is an accomplishment in itself; most shows don t get enough reviews on each episode to get episodic scores.Broad City and Jane the Virgin — girl power! — have the most seasons in the top 200 seasons of the decade with four each. Fan favorite Breaking Bad is represented twice, while Cobra Kai, which surprised audiences with its 100% Tomatometer score last year is at No. 11. The highest-ranked superhero series is Marvel s Agents of Shield season 3. Meanwhile, some incredible TV seasons – many of Game of Thrones’, the current season of Watchmen – missed the list, because of just a few dissenting reviews.Read on to find out which titles placed in the best TV of the decade.Which is your favorite 100%  Certified Fresh season of TV? Let us know in the comments.

Since 1933, King Kong has shown just how big the movies can really get, starting with the iconic original and its legendary image of our misunderstood gorilla atop the Empire State Building swatting away pew-pewing biplanes. Like his monster brethren over at the Universal lot, Kong spawned a sequel: Son of Kong, released a mere nine months later. The big ape has also gotten the reboot treatment multiple times. There was Peter Jackson s 2005 King Kong, and a King Kong of the 70s, which got a direct 80s sequel: King Kong Lives, the worst-reviewed movie in the franchise.2017 s Kong: Skull Island meant Kong officially stomping into the MonsterVerse ring, setting up a deathmatch for the ages in 2021 s Godzilla vs. Kong. However, this isn t the first time he s limbered up against the lizard: 1962 s King Kong vs. Godzilla was the third movie in Toho s kaiju franchise. A sequel, 1967 s King Kong Escapes, saw the big galoot wrestling with a giant robot version of himself. And with the arrival of Godzilla vs. Kong, heralding a return to theaters after a world-devastating pandemic, we re ranking all King Kong movies by Tomatometer! (And don t forget to check out all Godzilla movies ranked!)

From Ava Duvernay, Rian Johnson, and Ryan Coogler to Nicole Holofcener, Quentin Tarantino, and Robert Rodriguez, dozens of filmmakers have burst out of the Sundance Film Festival and chased their Hollywood dreams. Some directors, like Cathy Yan, made the leap from small budget indies like Dead Pigs to big budget studio movies like her next project, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Others, like Steven Soderbergh, have continued to blaze an unconventional path since his debut with Sex, Lies and Videotape over 30 years ago. This year’s group of first-time filmmakers are no less talented, many of them already earning praise from audiences and critics alike. There’s a good chance we may see many more movies from them in the years to come.I Carry You With Me (2020) 97%(Photo by Alejandro López courtesy of Sundance Institute)Distributor: Sony Pictures ClassicsTechnically speaking, I Carry You With Me isn t a true debut for Heidi Ewing, who has been crafting acclaimed feature documentaries for a decade and a half (2006 s Jesus Camp was even nominated for an Oscar). That said, Ewing makes her first foray into narrative filmmaking with this touching drama, which follows two men in Mexico, Iván and Gerardo, as they meet, fall in love and decide to try their luck in the United States. The film moves back and forth through the men’s lives, revisiting different moments from their childhood up to the present day, where they now live in New York and are unable to reunite with their families south of the border because they left without immigration papers. I Carry You with Me won Sundance’s NEXT Innovator Award and the audience award for its category. Carlos Aguilar wrote for Remezcla, “Ravishing and unshakable, Ewing s authentic film feels like the crossbreed between a painful memory and a hopeful dream about a place, a relationship and a fight for acceptance that s not political but entirely humanistic.”Crip Camp (2020) 100%(Photo by Steve Honigsbaum courtesy of Sundance Institute)Distributor: NetflixNicole Newnham and Jim LeBrecht teamed up to revisit a chapter of nearly forgotten history and trace its influence on attendees. In the early ‘70s, not far from Woodstock, an inclusive camp gave unprecedented training and opportunities to people with disabilities. Empowered by their experiences, LeBrecht and his fellow campers and counselors would go on to accomplish many things – including advocating for the Americans with Disabilities Act. Crip Camp won the audience award for its U.S. Documentary category. Esther Zuckerman wrote for Thrillist, “Through incredible archival footage, the documentary shows how campers at Jened were given the freedom they so often lacked in the outside world. There s smoking, sex, partying, and a sense of pure community.”The Forty-Year-Old Version (2020) 98%(Photo by Jeong Park courtesy of Sundance Institute)Distributor: NetflixWritten, directed by, and starring Radha Blank, this dramedy is a loosely autobiographical riff filtered through a classic-looking black-and-white lens. Blank plays a version of herself who’s nervous about approaching 40 as a single woman and struggling artist. Luckily, she rediscovers her love of hip-hop and finds a new source of inspiration for her material. Blank, a playwright and comedian off-screen, brings her sharp wit to the experience of a woman on the edge of a career breaking point, winning the Directing Award in the U.S. Dramatic category at Sundance in the process. Aramide Tinubu wrote in Shadow and Act, “Vulnerable but vibrant in all of it s black, white and grey-hued glory, The 40-Year-Old Version is an ode to BLACK Harlem, fearlessness and the art of putting yourself on.”Some Kind of Heaven (2020) 93%(Photo by Becca Haydu courtesy of Sundance Institute)Distributor: N/ALance Oppenheim’s quirky documentary takes audiences to a picture-perfect retirement community in Florida known as The Villages. Despite dozens of clubs, activities and smiling faces, his camera finds subjects who aren’t so pleased with paradise but are trying to make the best of their remaining years. Writing for Variety, Dennis Harvey said, “Those nostalgic for the fond portraits of eccentric Americana in Errol Morris early work and pretty much everyone else will be delighted by Some Kind of Heaven. This Is Not a Burial, It's a Resurrection (2019) 100%(Photo by Pierrede Villiers courtesy of Sundance Institute)Distributor: N/ALemohang Jeremiah Mosese’s debut opens in the mountains of Lesotho, where an 80-year-old woman loses her son and takes up a new cause in life: to protect her village from bureaucratic plans that would wipe it off the face of the earth. The film won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Visionary Filmmaking at Sundance. Allan Hunter of Screen International said, “This Is Not A Burial, It s A Resurrection offers a vivid, beautifully crafted reflection on identity, community and the tension between respecting age-old traditions and accepting the seemingly unstoppable march of progress.”Save Yourselves! (2020) 89%(Photo by Matt Clegg courtesy of Sundance Institute)Distributor: N/AIt’s the ultimate sci-fi nightmare: in an effort to disconnect from their addictions to smartphones, a Brooklyn couple, Jack (John Reynolds) and Su (Sunita Mani), go off the grid for some peace and quiet. Unfortunately, they picked the wrong time to swear off the internet, as the planet falls under attack by aliens. Amy Nicholson of Variety wrote about Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson’s comedy, “There s only one joke in Save Yourselves! this hapless generation is doomed! but the survival comedy is delightful from start to apocalypse.”Palm Springs (2020) 95%(Photo by Chris Willard courtesy of Sundance Institute)Distributor: Hulu, NeonMax Barbakow’s time-traveling romantic comedy follows Sarah (Cristin Milioti) and Nyles (Andy Samberg) on the day of Sarah’s little sister’s wedding. When Sarah looks reluctant to give a toast at the party, Nyles steps in to help, and the two strike up a rapport that eventually leads them both into a type of time warp that causes the hellish wedding day to start anew. Kevin Fallon of The Daily Beast said, “There s a massive, Groundhog Day-evoking twist that instantly transports this from cute rom-com to high-concept deconstruction of a rom-com that illuminates our need for connection of course, filtered through the wily charms of Lonely Island.”Promising Young Woman (2020) 90%(Photo by Focus Features)Distributor: Focus FeaturesTurning the revenge narrative upside down, Emerald Fennell’s clever Promising Young Woman follows Cassie (Carey Mulligan) as an old school friend Ryan (Bo Burnham) reenters her life and reminds her of the terrible incident that caused her to drop out of med school. Forever affected by this event, Cassie decides to turn her grief into a teaching moment for those who betrayed her years ago. Joi Childs wrote in Teen Vogue, “A stellar performance from Mulligan paired with an ambitious vision from Fennell comes together to create a story that s a bold takedown of rape culture and those that defend it.”Miss Juneteenth (2020) 99%(Photo by Rambo Elliott courtesy of Sundance Institute)Distributor: N/AChanning Godfrey Peoples’ debut feature follows a mother-daughter story deep in the heart of Texas. Turquoise (Nicole Beharie), the winner of her town’s beauty pageant title of Miss Juneteenth, lives a very different life than the one she once imagined as a reigning champion. She’s just scraping by as a single mom, trying her hardest to stay above the bills and convince her daughter Kai (Alexis Chikaeze) to go after the crown to finish what she started – even if Kai isn’t too keen on following through. Valerie Complex wrote in AwardsWatch, “Miss Juneteenth is written with hope in mind, and the audience will root for Turquoise. Not a tropey caricature that Hollywood likes to box Black actresses into.”Nine Days (2020) 88%(Photo by Wyatt Garfield courtesy of Sundance Institute)Distributor: N/AAlthough divisive among some critics, many supported Edson Oda’s vision for his feature debut, Nine Days. Starring Winston Duke, Zazie Beetz, Benedict Wong, Bill Skarsgård, Tony Hale and David Rysdahl, Nine Days takes place outside the realm of this reality for a mind-bending look at birth, existence, and life. Nine Days also won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award in the U.S. Dramatic category. Brian Tallerico wrote in RogerEbert.com that the film was “one of the most unexpected experiences I ve had in almost a decade of going to Sundance.”Like this? Paramount here. Yes, the studio. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a new summer franchise out of a 30-year-old TV show, and have it virtually improve with each sequel over 20 years And so Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt has halo-jumped, rock-climbed, motorcycle-duelled, and face mask-revealed his way across dozens of countries to unravel all manner of world threats in the Mission: Impossible movies. He s had help along the way, featuring a cast of series veterans, like Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg, and occasional players like Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton. Hunt hasn t had too much help from the IMF, though, considering how many times they think their star employee has gone rogue.A trademark for most of Mission: Impossible s lifespan was bringing in a new director for each entry, ranging from John Woo to Brad Bird to Brian De Palma, giving each entry a unique spin. But Since Rogue Nation, Cruise (who also produces) has found a perfect collaborator in Christopher McQuarrie. He was the first to direct two M:Is in a row, with Fallout raking in the series best box office and critical marks. McQuarrie will direct the next two films, both shooting concurrently, scheduled for May 27, 2022 and July 7, 2023.Before we see what death-defying hijinks they get into next (we don t think Ethan s been to the moon yet), we re ranking all Mission: Impossible movies by Tomatometer!

(Photo by Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures)The immediate good news on Godzilla vs. Kong is that it has easily become the highest-grossing film since the pandemic began last March, passing Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. That much was inevitable after grossing over million in its first five days of release. The next milestone it hopes to reach – other than surpassing Godzilla, King of the Monsters’ worldwide gross of 6 million (it currently stands at 7 million) is that of the once-fabled 0 million domestic plateau. The baby steps to the milestone after that will come much quicker for the next blockbuster, but does this film at this time have a real shot? So, let’s examine.Holding a film now to the standards of the great normal is not ideal, but we can try to make it correlate as best we can to current times. Godzilla vs. Kong dropped 58 percent in its second weekend. The higher the start, the higher the drop in these times. Wonder Woman 1984 dropped 67.1 percent in December after a .7 million start. More theaters plus vaccinations puts GvK with a 92.8 percent increase in its three-day weekend and a drop 9.1 percent better. That is fair progress. Now in the history of March releases that had grossed between million– million in their first 12 days, only two of the nine (2017’s Power Rangers and 10,000 B.C.) failed to reach 0 million, except even those films grossed .2 million and .7 million in their second weekend (and were the only two of the lot to not gross at least million). Godzilla vs. Kong grossed .3 million. With theaters still at limited capacity. Now, GvK has a slight edge on those films gross-wise to date with million estimated through Sunday. And currently we are seeing much smaller drops in third weekends amongst the pandemic films. Raya and the Last Dragon dropped just 10.2 percent and The Little Things fell only 2.6 percent. Even Chaos Walking fell just 14.5 percent. One thing they all have in common is the ability to last in a mar
