Stranger Things returns July 4 to a warm reception from critics for its new season. The first reviews out propelled the season 3 to Certified Fresh status within the day on Sunday, in one of the fastest designations in Rotten Tomatoes history. The series sets its third season in the summer, starting out all warm breezes, sunny skies, baking skin, splashing pools, and young romance. But this is Hawkins, Indiana, and stranger things lurk beneath that veneer of 80s suburban normalcy.Cue the Netflix series Goonies-like crew: supernatural Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Will (Noah Schnapp), Max (Sadie Sink), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), and Steve (Joe Keery).Parents and other siblings also return, including scene-stealing Priah Ferguson as Lucas sister Erica, Dacre Montgomery as Max s bully brother Billy, and, of course, Winona Ryder as Will and Jonathan s mom Joyce and David Harbour as police chief Jim Hopper, who last season adopted the role as Eleven s father in attachment if not legally. In season 3, their bond is stronger than ever.See what critics had to say about Stranger Things: Season 3 (2019) 89% below.Something Old(Photo by Netflix) Reliable, durable and comfortable, ST3 is what you d expect and certainly what you want, if what you want is seasons 1 and 2, with a few big twists along the way. — Verne Gay, NewsdaySomething New(Photo by Netflix) Our heroes are not the goofy young kids they used to be. The third series realigns and reconfigures them in new combinations and allegiances. — Suzi Feay, Financial TimesSomething Borrowed Though there are signs that Stranger Things is on the verge of slowing down (one-note villains, the missing feeling of an unearthed 80s treasure), that s not happening yet in Season 3. — Tim Surette, TV Guide Stranger Things finally becomes the sort of extravagant, exceedingly ambitious adventure spectacle that would have ruled the theaters during the 80s, instead of a TV series merely obsessed with films from that decade. — Kevin Yeoman, ScreenRantSomething True?(Photo by Netflix) On the evidence of this plodding and predictable third season, the Duffers can t skip town soon enough. — Ed Power, Daily Telegraph (UK) It harnesses a Big Summer Mood, a healthy heap of nostalgia and has plenty of fun references. But its story is also convoluted and far too scattered. — Allison Keene, Paste Magazine It s a thin imitation of what we used to have, who could blame anyone for clinging to it? — Judy Berman, TIME MagazineFinal Verdict? (Photo by Netflix) Season 3 balances good-natured laughs with charming nostalgia through likable characters doing battle against looming horrors. Yet it feels like it s propping up its past to justify its present. — Brandon Katz, Observer Despite its rocky start, the creators and performers find a way to pull off the impossible and deliver the best season yet, all while honoring their loyal fan base and challenging them to want more from a series known for playing it safe. — Patrick Cavanaugh, ComicBook.com By doubling down on relationship stories, Season 3 of Stranger Things delivers an oft-charming, deeper-than-expected, and ultimately enjoyable new chapter. — Ben Travers, indieWireLike this? Snowpiercer Exclusive Sneak Peek: Wilford Sends Sinister "Regards" To Layton Check out this foreboding and exclusive clip from Snowpiercer season 2, episode 8. by RT Staff | March 14, 2021 | Comments亚博官方苹果On June 22, 36 years have passed since the release of The Karate Kid, the story of an underdog, who explores a life unfamiliar to him, and who — with the help of a grumpy old man — raises himself up to be a champion. The 1984 film, directed by John Avildsen and written by Robert Kamen, had a lasting influence on the movie experience — future sports films would measure their stories against the tenacity and resolve on display in The Karate Kid, and Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, and William Zabka would enjoy a bright moment in the Hollywood sun. That sunlight faded after a time, as new heroes rose — mutants and aliens boasting super-human powers — and now, as their sweet summer dims, Macchio and Zabka have been coaxed back into the open to revisit their beloved characters of  Daniel LaRusso and  Johnny Lawrence in YouTube Premium series Cobra Kai, now available on Netflix.Season 1 was a Certified Fresh hit. All 43 critics that reviewed the season gave it a Fresh rating, landing Cobra Kai — the unlikely streaming TV revival of a slumbering monster film franchise — in our prestigious 100% TV season club. The series also brought back other familiar faces from the original movie, including Martin Kove, who played the Cobra Kai dojo s original alpha-male sensei Kreese in the film, and heartwarming tributes to the humble handyman and teacher Miyagi, played by Morita, who died in 2005.With Season 1 and 2 now on Netflix, with a third Cobra Kai season set to premiere in 2021, we sat down with Macchio and Zabka to talk about what got them back to the dojo, and paying homage to Morita. What follows is a history of Cobra Kai (2018-) and reflection upon the series beginnings, drawn from a sit-down interview with Macchio and Zabka.ALSO WATCH: ORAL HISTORY OF THE KARATE KID WITH RALPH MACCHIO AND WILLIAM ZABKA“It became part of the American lexicon at some point.”Ralph Macchio: “I mean, certainly in the earlier years, from the ’80s into the early ’90s, you had all those images of the crane kick, or the lines like, ‘Get him a body bag’ or ‘Sweep the leg.’ ‘Wax on, wax off.’ [The Karate Kid] became part of the American lexicon at some point. But I think the internet, if you will, or the ability for everyone to be able to talk and spread their voice, really is where it amped up to that other level. And then you have the How I Met Your Mother of it all, which was a show that always teed up from Barney Stinson s perspective of the real Karate Kid. And then that became this whole pop culture thing, and then other videos made. And that set the stage for, I think, the series Cobra Kai fan base coming to the table all amped up for decades of discussion. And it s cool that it all collided in such a good big way.”“We have to go convince Ralph Macchio. William Zabka: “Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, the creators of Cobra Kai, emailed me and they said, ‘Let’s have lunch and talk to you about a project that we re excited about.’ So I said, ‘OK. Where do you want to meet? There s a Mexican restaurant down the street from my house. Let s meet there.’(Photo by YouTube Premium)So we go in and go and sit at this back table, and the chips come, and they re telling the waiters to leave, and then it was just spitfire, like the three-headed dragon, just a machine gun of information. Like, ‘OK, so here it is. We re huge fans of Karate Kid. We love your work. We want to do this. It s called Cobra Kai. We got the rights of Karate Kid. You re Johnny Lawrence. You re like bad sensei, you re like Walter Matthau in Bad News Bears. You re gonna be the anti-hero.’ And I was like, ‘What? You can t just go do this.’I ve had a lot of ideas presented. I ve thought my own self, like, ‘What can I do more in a satire type of way?’ Because I never could imagine getting the rights to do Johnny Lawrence again. And after The Karate Kid with Jaden Smith came out, I felt like it was really all over. Like, ‘It s moved on.’ … This, it just felt right. And I said, ‘What s the next step?’ They said, ‘Well, we have to go convince Ralph Macchio.’ I said, ‘OK.’”“Oh, crap, I hope this works.”Macchio: “They flew to New York. We met down in Tribeca area, and we spent more than a couple hours. They led off with talking about the themes. They were very focused. I could tell they were nervous, but Hayden, he started right away, and says, Bullying. I would love to have the footage of their pitch to Billy, to convince him, and their pitch to me, because they were different. They didn t start off saying, ‘We want to do the Johnny Lawrence story about Cobra Kai and make him the hero of the story.’ They started talking about themes, so credit them. They did a great job. They were also very well-versed in what they wanted to do, the angle. And they did tell me the title of the show. They weren t trying to say, ‘Oh, it s not gonna be that.’ I knew what it was.My biggest question was they were pitching it as a comedy. I said, ‘Well, where s the funny? What s the tone?’ That was the main question, and where s the Miyagi-isms, and how is that going to be woven into it? Because if it s not, then I m not interested. I need for it to have balance, if you will, across the board of the Karate Kid universe, even though the angle in from the Johnny Lawrence story is super smart.(Photo by YouTube Premium)I felt that they were the guys. I knew from Hot Tub Time Machine and Harold and Kumar that they knew [the humor]. I believed they could write for a young generation and humor and great teen dialogue, which I felt was really important for the show to have that. That s really shedding light in going to season 2 and beyond, because we have this great young cast. I needed to digest it all, but I believed that they were the guys. They wanted to make the show the fans wanted to see, because they were those kids. And then timing: 15 [or] 10 years ago there was no YouTube or Netflix, or a place where you could take a five, six-hour movie and cut it up into parts. We shoot this show and each season is like a full-on movie that you just cut up. You allow the characters to breathe and delve into gray areas, and it s not just so black-and-white and leading to one big quick climax two hours later. All those things together got me to the place of saying, ‘OK, let s do this.’ But not without me closing my eyes, holding my breath, and saying, ‘Oh, crap, I hope this works.’ Now we seem like the two smartest guys in the world.”“We hadn t done this for 35-some years  all of sudden, he walks in and it was just on.”Zabka: “My first scene was with Ed Asner, so how s that for day 1 on a show: working with a legend? It s the scene when I walk in and Ed Asner s in my refrigerator. So they just started me at full speed, and it was great, and he was great — I mean really great. What an honor. It felt like he kissed the show in a way, and he blessed it in a way, by his presence being there. It just felt like wow, we re way up here.”(Photo by YouTube Premium)Macchio: “Our first scene together is still one of my favorites in the Cobra Kai series. The first scene I shot was at the end of episode 2, where LaRusso comes into the Cobra Kai dojo and it s a little stare-down, and they question each other, and it just sets up the entire series. That scene was magic, man. We worked together in a film 30-plus years ago, and we ve been friends for years. But that level of chemistry that we have, I didn t know that it was there at the level that it s now turned out to be. It s just a reminder that this project, be it The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai, has some element that the bar just gets raised and we deliver. I m proud of it.”Zabka: “We hadn t done this for 35-some years now, right? And all of sudden, he walks in and it was just on, and everything else was gone, and it was these two characters exist again in this setting. We walked away. We re like, ‘Wow, there s something really happening.’”“It s warm and wonderful and bittersweet. Pat would ve loved this.”Macchio: “All the time, I think about Pat and his performance. Listen, we re not making the show without Pat Morita s performance as Mr. Miyagi, because that s one of the things that elevated that film to what it is today. They re big shoes to fill. I mean, LaRusso has a line like that early in season 2 — he looks at a picture of Miyagi and says, ‘Boy, I ve got big shoes to fill.’He learns very soon that just because you have knowledge of a subject doesn t necessarily mean you can teach it. And Mr. Miyagi was a magical type character who had a special touch, and LaRusso is learning that he might not have that — or he has to find his own. View this post on Instagram Shooting a poignant Miyagi-influenced scene on @cobrakaiseries then, moments later a surprise visit from Pat Morita’s daughter, Aly makes this one of the most memorable days on the show. All the feels from above and beyond. Another stroke of Miyagi Magic graces the day. Thanks, Aly 🙂 And as always, thank you, Pat. 🙏🥋A post shared by ralph_macchio (@ralph_macchio) on Oct 24, 2018 at 9:47am PDT

4. 呼朋唤友 随心所欲
That’s it, free folks: “The Iron Throne” (55% on the Tomatometer as of publication) has closed the book on the Game of Thrones world, and completed the saga of why people with the last name of “Stark” should avoid the South at all costs. In honor of the 73 episodes that have been released since 2011, we decided to do a Tomatometer deep dive into all eight seasons. The following statistics cover all 73 episodes of the series, and are accurate as of noon on Monday, May 20, 2019.SPOILER WARNING! WE LOVE DATA AND WE SPOIL THINGS. This article contains spoilers from the entire series of Game of Thrones.THE TOMATOMETER AVERAGE FOR THE SERIES IS 91%(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)The 91% Tomatometer average for the 73 episodes does an excellent job of summarizing the series has a whole. A little more than 5 percent of the episodes have been Rotten — four in total, including season 5 s “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” (54%) and season 8 s The Last of the Starks (episode 4, 58%), “The Bells” (episode 5, 47%), and The Iron Throne (episode 6, 55%). The majority of the show, however, has been brilliantly executed and its given us classic episodes like “Baelor” (season 1, episode 9, 100%), “Blackwater” (season 2, episode 9, 100%), and “The Door” (season 6, episode 5, 98%), which are genuinely thrilling and made us feel so many feels. (We miss you, Hodor.)SEASON 8 IS THE LOWEST-RATED SEASON, BUT IT’S STILL FRESH(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)Critics have chilled on the GoT world since season 8 brought winter with it. However, the 69% Tomatometer average for the six episodes is still Fresh. The Fresh average can be attributed to the first two episodes, “Winterfell” (92%) and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” (88%), which kicked things off by reuniting the core characters so they could battle a seemingly unstoppable force of ice zombies. It’s too bad that the Tomatometer scores for “The Long Night” (75%), “The Last of the Starks” (58%), “The Bells” (47%), and “The Iron Throne” (55%) plunged to record low scores.THE FIRST IS THE BEST, ACCORDING TO THE TOMATOMETERForget saving the best for last: GoT kicked off its 10-episode first season with the 100% Tomatometer rated “Winter Is Coming,” and it ended with the 100% rated “Fire and Blood.” Not only was the season bookended by perfect episodes, it had a total of eight 100% episodes that critics lost their heads over (sorry, Ned). Only “Lord Snow” (86%) and “The Wolf and the Lion” (95%) failed to achieve perfection.IT’S WAY HARDER TO HIT 100% NOW(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)After season 1 kicked things off with eight 100% episodes, the subsequent seasons have had a hard time matching its Tomatometer dominance. Season 2 had five 100% episodes and season 3 had four, whereas seasons 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 could only manage six perfectly rated episodes between them. (Watch season 5’s “Hardhome” now. It’s amazing!) In fact, the last episode to receive a 100% Tomatometer score was 2016’s “Book of the Stranger” (season 6, episode 4), which is the highest-rated of all the GoT episodes owing to the massive number of reviews it received compared to the rest of the 100% episodes.THE “ON-BOOK” SEASONS SCORE HIGHER THAN THE “OFF-BOOK” SEASONS(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)An explanation for the show’s Tomatometer dip in seasons 6, 7, and 8 can be partly attributed to the show going “off-book.” By the end of season 5, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss couldn’t rely on writer George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire source material any longer. They forged a new path, and the results were still super Fresh — at first. The 86% Tomatometer average for the episodes featured in seasons 6-8 is very good, but when compared to the 95% average for seasons 1-5 it starts looking like the Dothraki army after battling the Night King.ONLY FOUR EPISODES TOTAL ARE ROTTEN(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)With season 8 receiving uncharacteristically low Tomatometer scores, it might be easy to forget how stellar the show has been for 8 seasons. The majority of episodes — 69 of 73, or 94.5 percent — have Fresh scores. As for the four Rotten episodes, the first came in season 5 “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” (54%), featuring the controversial wedding and rape scene between Sansa Stark and Ramsay Bolton. The other three are season 8’s “The Last of the Starks” (58%), “The Bells” (47%), and “The Iron Throne” (57%).CRITICS AREN’T BIG FANS OF DAENERYS AND HER DRAGONS DYING(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)Critics loved when Daenerys Targaryen’s three dragons were born during the 100% Tomatometer rated season 1 finale, “Fire and Blood”; however, critics weren’t as hot (pun intended) for the four episodes featuring them getting killed (or killed again). Season 7’s “Beyond the Wall” (84%) and season 8’s “The Long Night” (75%) and “The Last of the Starks” (58%) killed off Rhaegal and Viserion, respectively (twice for Viserion). The series finale, “The Iron Throne” (55%), featured the death of their mother. The result for all four episodes is a 68% Tomatometer average, which is well below the 92% overall Tomatometer score for the 73 episodes.Quick Tomatometer Fact: Episodes featuring a direwolf being killed have a 96.25% Tomatometer average. We still strongly dislike the Freys for killing Grey Wind, though.CRITICS LOVE BIG WEDDINGS, BUT THE LANNISTERS AND STARKS PROBABLY DON’T(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)The five GoT episodes featuring very expensive weddings that take place in front of large crowds have 100% Tomatometer scores. Episodes including “The Rains of Castamere” (season 3, episode 9), “The Lion and the Rose” (season 4, episode 2), and “Winter Is Coming” (season 1, episode 1) go BIG with their weddings and occasionally end horribly for beloved (or hated) characters. All of these episodes have 100% scores, and have provided some of the most murderous moments (the Red Wedding), awkward moments (Tyrion and Sansa), and violent moments (Joffrey being poisoned at The Purple Wedding) of the series.Quick Tomatometer Fact: The GoT episodes featuring smaller weddings have an 84% Tomatometer average.LESS DEATH IS BETTER, ACCORDING TO THE TOMATOMETER(Photo by Helen Sloan/HBO)It turns out that more is less when it comes to death in the GoT world. The 53 episodes featuring fewer than 25 people dying have a Tomatometer average of 93.2%, whereas the 19 deadly episodes (more than 25 kills) have an 89.2% average. While several episodes featuring mass mayhem like “Hardhome” (season 5, episode 8), “The Battle of the Bastards” (season 6, episode 9), and “Blackwater”’ (season 2, episode 9) are excellent, they are outweighed by less deadly episodes, such as the No. 2 ranked “Mockingbird” (season 4, episode 7), that don’t relish in killing too many of our favorite (or least favorite) characters.Quick Tomatometer Facts:Episodes featuring night battles (four episodes averaging 91.25%) Episodes featuring daytime battles (seven episodes averaging 85.8%)Episodes featuring shorter battles (six episodes averaging 92%) Episodes featuring episode long battles (five episodes averaging 82.8%)Episodes featuring a Stark being killed (four episodes averaging 95.5%) Episodes featuring a Lannister(s) being killed (six episodes averaging 89.3%)

2021 Emmys Ballot: Print Your Ballot Complete with Tomatometer Scores Complete your Emmy watch party planning with our beautiful, handy ballot so you can keep track of all your picks. by RT Staff | September 17, 2021 | Comments

Going forward it seems that every time a select potential blockbuster is on the horizon, we will all be looking at it less as just another pandemic record-breaker, but a sign that the doors to normalcy are opening wider. We did it back in March with Godzilla vs. Kong, and saw further hope in the opening and continuing numbers of A Quiet Place Part II. Now it is The Fast Saga’s turn to step up onto the scale and see how it should be measured.King of the Crop: F9 Fuels the Biggest Box Office Weekend Since February 2020The latest film in the saga (the ninth that is actually the tenth), F9, grabbed the record this weekend for films opening during the pandemic with million from Friday to Sunday. We’ll see if that is a rounded-up estimate. Whether it is or not, it is the best number 1 haul at the box office since The Rise of Skywalker’s second weekend (.3 million on the weekend of December 27-29, 2019) and the overall box office had the strongest three-day weekend since President’s Day weekend last February. This is no doubt good news as this is a film – even with pandemic asterisks – that should have opened to over million. Anything less than that – even above A Quiet Place Part II’s three-day holiday weekend haul of .5 million – would have been considered a hollow victory. But it got over that hump with a .1 million gross in Thursday night previews and million on Friday. Amongst past films that grossed between .5 million and .5 million on Thursday previews, the lowest full weekend earner was Jordan Peele’s Us with million. (Fast Furious 6 is among that small group and opened to .3 million after .5 million in previews.)There is no question that The Fast Saga is one of the biggest franchises of all-time: Over billion and counting with more than half of that attributed to the last three films (not even counting Hobbs Shaw). Furious 7 is the ninth highest-grossing film worldwide of all-time and The Fate of the Furious is 19th. F9 has made over 4 million worldwide so far. However, domestically, the grease is starting to come off the wheels a bit for the franchise. For all its international success, Fate grossed 7 million less than the seventh movie, and then Hobbs Shaw made million less than that; that spin-off finished its run just shy of 4 million and was considered somewhat of a disappointment at home. Bringing in those pesky pandemic asterisks again, we still have not seen a film hit 0 million in the pandemic period. The lowest-grossing film to open between million and million is X-Men: Apocalypse, with 5 million total. However, F9 is not going to be judged against the poor word-of-mouth of that film, nor against the Vin Diesel-less Hobbs Shaw. We are back to Diesel solo here with no Dwayne Johnson to draw in fans of his Hobbs character. So we may be back to looking at the fourth entry, Fast Furious, as the first hurdle F9 wants to clear. a film that also just happened to finish with…5 million. Start your engines.
of any Crazy sequels in 2019 unlikely. Instead, the plan appears for both sequels to be filmed back-to-back, probably in 2020, for release dates in 2021 (and possibly 2022). The other challenge for an ambitious two-movie shoot (go ask Marvel) is getting all the cast scheduled, and Crazy Rich Asians had a large ensemble cast. As for what comes after In the Heights, China Rich Girlfriend, and Rich People Problems, Chu is also now developing Don t Stop Believin about Journey lead singer Arnel Pineda s unlikely route to a dream rock star gig.3. CAPTAIN MARVEL S BRIE LARSON AND HER NETFLIX MOVIE WITH CHARLIE KAUFMAN (Photo by Claire Folger/Paramount Pictures)Brie Larson was very much in the spotlight this week with the launch of the second trailer for next year s Captain Marvel (3/8/2019) (which has people asking all sorts of questions). As it often happens, however, there was actually another story about Larson s career this week, as she is the latest actor to sign on for an ambitious project at Netflix. Brie Larson has signed to star in I m Thinking of Ending Things, Netflix s first film with writer/director Charlie Kaufman (Anomalisa, Synecdoche New York). Based on a 2016 novel by Iain Reid, I m Thinking of Ending Things tells the story of a woman s trip to a family farm that leads to an an unexpected detour leaving her stranded, a twisted mix of palpable tension, psychological frailty and sheer terror ensues. Jesse Plemons (of TV s Breaking Bad and Fargo) also signed on this week as the film s male lead. Going back to Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios also released the first teaser this week for Avengers: Endgame (4/26/2019), and we may be getting the first Spider-Man: Far From Home (7/5/2019) teaser this weekend (though how that fits in with Spidey s current status is still anyone s guess).4. I TONYA DIRECTOR TAPPED FOR ANOTHER MISUNDERSTOOD HEROINE: CRUELLA?(Photo by Buena Vista Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)For the most part, Disney s remakes of their animated classics are pretty straightforward (Dumbo is Dumbo, The Lion King is The Lion King, etc.), but then you have a movie like Maleficent, which took Sleeping Beauty and told its villain s story instead. (Let s note real quick here that Maleficent II recently wrapped filming and it s scheduled for May 29, 2020.) Disney is going to do the same thing with their revisit to 101 Dalmatians by adapting it as Cruella, telling her origin story before she ever met all those black-and-white puppies. Emma Stone has been attached to play the young Cruella for a while, and this week, Disney found its director in the form of Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Lars and the Real Girl). Alex Timbers (of Amazon s Mozart of the Jungle) had been attached, but had to drop out due to scheduling issues. Cruella doesn t have a release date yet, but it s most likely aimed at either late 2020 or sometime in 2021. Disney s remake slate currently includes three confirmed for 2019 (Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King) and two for 2020 (Mulan, Maleficent II). Tom Hanks also started talking to Disney last week for Pinocchio, which is another possibility for 2020 or 2021.5. TIFFANY HADDISH AND AWKWAFINA MIGHT BE NEXT JUMP STREET COPS (Photo by Michele K. Short/Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures)One of the funniest parts of 22 Jump Street was actually the ending, which promised a long series of sequels with different themes starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum (Medical School, Foreign Exchange Students, Art School, etc). That was followed, for a while, by talk about Hill and Tatum starring in a 23 Jump Street which was also a new Men in Black movie, but those plans eventually fell apart, and Hill and Tatum are apparently done with the franchise now. Instead, in whatever form the third 21 Jump Street movie takes, the two cops-undercover-in-a-school will be women. Tiffany Haddish broke out after 2017 s Girls Trip, and Awkwafina co-starred this year in both Ocean s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. If deals go through the way Sony hopes, it will be Haddish and Awkwafina who star in the next 21 Jump Street movie. Since she s 39, you might think Tiffany Haddish would have a harder time passing as a student, and you would be right, as she s reportedly in talks to play a cop undercover as a teacher, a mom, or maybe even both. In related news, the Men in Black spinoff now has a title, Men in Black International, which brings to mind the long-running DC Comics series Justice League International. This week, we also got our first image of Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in character, complete with fancy guns and men in black suits.6. ANNE HATHAWAY MIGHT TELL YOU HOW TO GET TO SESAME STREET (Photo by Giles Keyte/Focus Features)Next year will mark five years since Muppets Most Wanted, and since then we haven t heard much about any new installments. Instead, the attention seems to be turning to Sesame Street, which continues to air on both PBS and HBO. Sesame Street is also sort of a thematic cousin of Mister Rogers Neighborhood, which was the subject of this year s hit documentary Won t You Be My Neighbor? So, the time might be right for a different kind of Sesame Street movie. Warner Bros. is reportedly hoping to sign Anne Hathaway to star in their new Sesame Street movie, which will also be a musical. Of particular interest is the name of Hathaway s character, which is Sally. Going all the way back to the original 1969 Sesame Street pilot episode, it was a little girl named Sally who Gordon Robinson first introduced to Sesame Street. (Anne Hathaway, born in 1982, is too young by about 15 years to have actually been in that 1969 episode.) Big Bird, Bert Ernie, Elmo, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, The Count, Mister Snuffleupagus, and Zoe are all also likely to be in Sesame Street.Rotten Ideas3. THE MUSIC OF PRINCE TO INSPIRE A MAMMA MIA-STYLE MUSICAL (Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images)During his lifetime, Prince was famously super protective of both his music and legacy (Kevin Smith recounted his efforts to make a Prince documentary in An Evening with Kevin Smith). Since his death in 2016, the music of Prince has been in the public eye, including commercials and a recent all-Prince episode of Black-ish. Universal Pictures had success with the ABBA musical Mamma Mia (and to some lesser extent, it s sequel Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again), and now the studio is hoping to replicate that, but with the music of Prince. Universal has made a deal with Prince s estate for an original movie (ie, not a Purple Rain remake, for example) inspired by the songs of Prince. The reports about the movie specifically reference Mamma Mia!, so don t expect a Prince biopic, but a fictional story that just features the songs. In related news, Universal is also partnering with Issa Rae on a musical romance called Love in America. Considering Universal has had mixed success with Mamma Mia! (the first film was Rotten at 55%, while the second was Certified Fresh at 81%), and considering Prince s music is good enough to stand on its own, without shoehorning it into a made-up story, we aren t especially optimistic here. Maybe they ll prove us wrong.
